The rain has stopped, but (as usual) cold weather follows.

At least half of this new class will probably stay and do well.
The other half probably won't show up because I won't mark them present for four hours if they only stay for one (and mark them absent if they put a pocketbook on the chair and leave to talk on a cell phone for hours -- I have to see a body in the seat).
But I'm not so worried about it anymore.

I finally found a store that had horseradish, and made cocktail sauce for the first time tonight.
Not bad.

Linda, the tradeoff for my godawful work hours is that I work Monday through Friday. Always. If it wasn't the case then I would go to working on evenings or something, but overall this shift is okay. I get off at 1:30 and have the rest of the afternoon for getting things done, appointments and grocery shopping, all of that stuff. The absolute best thing about my schedule is being off of the night shift. I'm too doggone old for that anymore. emoticon

It was 17 degrees when I was driving to work this morning and it probably got up to about 35 in the afternoon. Right now it's 25 again and it's supposed to go back down to 17 tonight. And isn't today just the first day of winter?? Or was that yesterday...I can't remember now...I'm about done with winter and cold weather, doggone it. I may have to move to someplace near the equator if this garbage keeps up. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I couldn't get warm in bed last night to save my doggone life. As a result, I didn't get much sleep and I'm exhausted this evening. I'm going to read a few more emails and head to bed. Linda, take care of that cold. Gail, I hope your soup was really great. (Good soup weather these days...) Kurt, your students will get out of their classes what they put into them. I just hope this new class doesn't make you crazy on the way there. Good luck with it. Penny, I think that I'm not at all sad to have missed out on popcorn snow for the first 47 years of my life. emoticon Have a fabulous Friday everyone.

There was much rejoicing!

60, know the size of a kernal of popcorn? That's the size of popcorn snow. And does it ever sting.

Darla, I read where Jane Fonda has had several surgeries to help her keep her body in shape. To me, that's cheating, so I don't think all that much of her. Especially when she tried to pass it off as never having had any. They had the proof where she did.

Kurt, at least you know in your heart that you're doing the right thing. It'll catch up with them at some point in time.

Bill made the long cookcase today & will do the dhort one tomorrow. For some reason I've just felt washed out all day today.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Hello Friends,
Linda- Yes my check is direct deposit so I just have to keep calling the bank to see when it is in. I just will be glad to have some money coming in. Glad you are feeling a little better and I hope the ultasound on your hips comes out with some news for you. I hope you dont end up having surgery. I had a torn rotator cuff about 4 years ago from a car wreck and it took close to a year to recover. Take good care of yourself.

Gail- That soup sounds wonderful! I am glad you are starting to feel a little better too. So far everyone in my family is healthy and we have had some colds but everyone is feeling good right now so I am happy for that. I think I just need to start exercising again and that would help some of my tiredness,. It is geting cold here now and that is my excuse for not going to walk. But I saw last night that Jane Fonda has a new workout video for Seniors that I could proubly do! I remember working out to her first video and buying the book! She is 74 and looks fanstastic! My Mom was only 75 and pretty much went downhill at 60! So I have to do a bettter job of taking care of myself if i am going to live longer than she did.

Kurt- I am sure you are a great teacher! I would have a hard time ever teaching anyone English from another country so I admire you for being able to do that. Just think about how many people you are helping to have a better life in the United States!

I got a letter in the mail that they dropped my Medicare before I could make the payment so i have to get a hold of them when Chris is home so I can use his phone to call the SS lady I talked to. I had lost the notice in the move and just got another one sent to me and then got that letter yesterday. It really worries me but if I can get a hold of them then I think they can just take it out of the first check and it will be okay.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Gail emoticon Here is some more soup to help you over your infection. Hope your road rage incident was primarily here - LOL. The heavier traffic gets, the more idiots there seem to be on the road. When we had that snow storm last week, we saw a half dozen of them in the ditch. I guess I figure they finally got theirs. Expecting another storm tomorrow.

Darla emoticon I hope your check is direct deposit. Thankfully, our credit union is on line, and we have access to our money as soon as they post it.

Val emoticon I hope you have a good calendar. Your schedule sounds confusing.
We are getting a cold blast today. Temp 26. My sore throat is much better, and my cough isn't bad if I don't talk.

Kurt emoticon You sound like a really good teacher. You are in it for more than the money.

emoticon I had my PT appointment this morning. I am getting ultrasound to each hip. Plus, I have an exercise assignment. The exercises are getting easier, so something must be working. If I didn't have this cold, I would try walking a little more.

I posted this under general discussion: DECEMBER CHALLENGE.
You might check to see if your community has something similar, but check it out carefully as to it's value. I am checking to see if they have them for sale for next year: our Chamber of Commerce has a plastic card that provides discounts at many of t he member businesses. Many are locally owned restaurants - not the chains. But the local Walgreens are on the list. They give me 15% off on purchases, and 20% of on Walgreen labeled items. Prescriptions, tobacco & alcohol are exempt. I take several supplements recommended by my doctor, & use a special cream to treat/prevent radiation burns. Whenever possible, I buy the store brand of items. I can buy toilet tissue, some grocery items, greeting cards, make-up, etc. and considerable discounts. And, occasionally, we go to the Mexican restaurant for 10% off. We usually add the discount back in on the tip.

Yesterday afternoon after class, I found out that they had scheduled me to take over someone else's evening class and everyone else knew about it except me, so I told them I had something else to do and that I'd start tonight.
The class. which has been going on for months, is full of Uzbeks (former USSR) and the teacher has been speaking Russian (even though he's not supposed to), so they don't understand spoken English well, if at all.
Plus the teacher's classroom management is non-existent: the students get phone calls, come in late (he marks them present for the whole time even though we're not supposed to d that), talk during class, etc.
I've already gone through this with the previous class and I'm not looking forward to this one because it's already a disaster. In terms of English, they're probably not even ESL Level 2 (basic English with present and past tense verbs).

However, my afternoon class, which I've had from the beginning, is up to US 7th grade-level English reading comprehension and they'll be entering GED classes (for the high school equivalency diploma test) before our class ends on the 28th.

I have to go along with things for the paycheck right now, but it's not going to be a festive holiday in terms of work.

...At least the rain stopped last night. It's still gray outside, but maybe today will be dry.

Good Morning:

I made a pot of turkey vegetable soup with the left over turkey I had in the freezer from Thanksgiving. Boy, did that hit the spot. I squeezed some fresh lemon into it and it tasted great, and, I believe, helped me feel better with that extra bit of vitamin C.

I'm feeling better this morning and am anxious to have a normal day.

Wishing you all the joy of the season.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Well it finally warmed up to freezing today. emoticon Actually, it got up to 40 degrees but the day started off around 15 degrees when I was driving to work at my ungodly hour of the morning. (Starting work at 5:00 is for the birds...but getting off at 1:30 is really great so it all works out.) Our high temperatures are supposed to be in the 30s for the rest of the week and I guess I can live with that. Not much wind today,so that was good, too.

Today was my Monday at work, which was good and strange. The good part of that is that tomorrow will be my Wednesday and Friday will actually be my Friday...and then I'll have the weekend off and I can try to get caught up on my sleep again...wish me luck... emoticon

Linda and Gail and Penny, how are those sore throats treating you? I hope you've all gotten rid of them, being sick is just miserable. I got home from work really late this afternoon so it's almost time for me to go to bed. I hope that you all have a terrific Thursday, which for me will be a Wednesday...Talk to all of you later.

There was much rejoicing!

Hello Friends,
So sorry each of you are feeling so bad! I hope everyone starts feeling better soon. I feel okay. I stay tired a lot from all my health problems and just from being overweight. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high tryglerides, sleep apnea and bipolar. It all wears me out sometimes. But I know if I can just keep getting this wieght off I will feel much better. Just losing the 55 pounds I have lost helps a lot.

Thanks 60 for the teddy bear! She would love that! she has a bear that her pacifiers went into and so that is her favorite bear! But she has a stuffed Tiger that has been with her since she was born called Mr. Tiger! He is inseparable from her! I got Erin a stuffed puppy she has still from her first Christmas! We will have a lot of fun Christmas Eve on that train!

Well I still have not got my disablity check and most of it has to go to paying my medicare premium I owe from being off disabilty. It is $461! That is a lot to come out of my check but it has to be paid. Does not leave me much for Christmas but my kids have covered all of it and Erin even bought Maddie a tea set from me! Seems so strange not to buy Christmas for them but they bought themsselves a new TV so I could not top that! lol Hope everyone has a good day! Hope everyone feels better soon!

Good Morning:

I started to feel cruddy again yesterday and it got worse as the evening progressed. I'm a bit better now, but I fear this sinus infection will keep coming back unless something drastic is done. Yesterday I felt the full effects of the medication. (The doctor had warned me about this side effect.) I actually was a b$@#$^ on wheels, barking at Vic for everything. On the way to the hospital someone...a lady with a child in the car no less...cut right in front of me in moving traffic, and I experienced road rage for the first time in my life. She was at a stop sign and just decided she'd go for it. I'm an aggressive driver, but I'm not stupid. I'd never emerge from a stop sign position into moving traffic. You go when there is a sufficient break without expecting on-coming traffic to just slow down or stop for you.

OK, enough of that. I started a new book yesterday and am hoping to read a lot of it today. I'll get to it when I return from my PT appointment. I've been so under the weather I've only done the one exercise for my shoulder. I think that one is probably the most important.

I'm so sorry Linda and Sandy are having such a hard time of it. Darla, how are you getting on? There are days when I wonder when all of this will cease. It's hard feeling ill or dizzy, are unable to breathe well, or are aching perpetually. I'll do whatever I have to to get well.

Wishing you all a happy day.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

emoticon Good Morning Frugal Friends. Thank you for the prayers & well wishes from all of you. No, I don't require chemo. This cancer was in such an early stage - they didn't used to treat it until they figured out about half went on to actual cancer in 5-10 years or less. Even with the minor, out-pt. surgery, 40% go on to full blown cancer in 5-10 years. Calling it a minor surgery plays light of it a little. There has been surgical discomfort that is finally letting up in the past couple weeks. I start on a hormone -suppressant pill in 2 weeks. But that isn't really chemo. If I can shake this cold, I should only be tired by Christmas.

I tried to get on spark late last evening, but spark didn't respond well to my mouse, so I gave up. I even had trouble entering my food. I expect to find an update today - maybe. Sometimes updates are not so obvious.

emoticon Kurt
Do you have new classes in January? I may have missed an earlier post.

emoticon Darla
I know that polar bears are not brown - but thought the bear would keep your granddaughter warm on your train trip. That sounds so exciting.

emoticon Ok, Penny. What is popcorn snow? Is it the size of the flakes?
Our forecasters talk about pop-up showers, which are scattered.

emoticon Gail - He or she who is walking through the valley with somebody who is sick has a right to be exhausted. My husband is worn out, too, but won't hardly admit it.

emoticon emoticon emoticon Weather report.
It must be a hairline between snow & rain. The forecasters struggle with what it will be. We have been under flood warnings for area rivers, streams, farm land, and low lying roads. We have seen a lot of water coming close to a number of houses on our way to Fort Wayne each day. Our local river is near the top of it's banks, but is receding. We had a lot of rain that melted all of the snow from last week. It is pretty frosty looking today.
A snow storm is forecast for Friday. Our route to Fort Wayne is a US highway. Within an hour after a storm ends, it is clear. The concern is during a storm. That and the idiots who think they can drive 75 on slush - when the speed limit is 60 in sunny weather. This time, I know to pack a couple days of my meds to take with us. If we get trapped somewhere, we will be okay. We have a dtr who lives half way between here and the big city.

Tonight, my evening class had their mandatory oral exam at the completion of the course. All except two were able to pass without any help, but that doesn't mean they'll be speaking English on a regular basis.
So, that's the end of that class.
The other one ends on the 28th.

It has been raining here for days -- we started with mist in the evenings.
It's supposed to continue for a while.

Hello Friends,
I am in San Antonio Texas and it is cold here too. I know it will be freezing cold Vali Christmas Eve when Erin my daughter and Maddie my granddaughter and I drive to New Mexico. We are going on the Grand Cayon Railroad on a 1 hour trip that reinacts the Polar Express movie! We are so excited about it! Maddie is 4 and loves trains! She will be on cloud 9 to ride a real train It will be fun but I am sure we will be freezing cold there!

I only packed a few clothes in my suitcase and I have no warm shirts to wear so I am really cold! I will have to buy me some warmer shirts when I get my money!

I hope everyone that is feeling bad gets better soon! I hate being sick but it seems like winter months bring that on a lot. So far i feel pretty good . I just stay tired a lot with all my health problems. Hope everyone has a good day!

We got popcorn snow today & it's really cold & the winds high.

Darla, on one of our many trips to move my mother back to Missouri from California & Arizonia we were going thru New Mexico when I turned to my DH & said, " Doesn't this just speak to you?" It was really a beautiful spot ( I think near Gallup) . He turned to me & said" Yeah, it says get the hell out of Dodge". Talk about killing a moment! He'd like to live in the wildernes of Alaska which I never will. Much too cold for too long!

We have to go to Bilbe study tonight. I hate the thought of going out.

60, my thought (prayers) are with you!

Got to start getting ready. Haven't been out of the house all day. Throat still sore but DH thinks it won't hurt going out! emoticon

Linda emoticon for only 9 more radiation sessions!! I'm sure you'll be really happy when that is over. Do you have to do chemo when you're finished with the radiation, or will that be it for now? I sure hope so becuase I know that you've had to go through a lot in recent months and I'd like for it to be over for you. Fingers crossed.

I hope that you and Penny get over your sore throats soon. Winter is a miserable time to be sick. Well, really any time is a miserable time to be sick, but things always seem worse to me in the winter when it's hard to stay warm. emoticon

We appear to be at our high temperature for the day...a whopping 24 degrees. emoticon I guess I'm never happy with the weather here. It's too darn hot in the summer...and right now it's just miserably cold. A couple of years ago (or last year??) this kind of cold pretty much shut the city down because it's something that we are not prepared for here. It was actually colder that year, didn't get above zero degrees for most of a week and the power company couldn't handle the heating needs of the city for that week. Hopefully it won't get that bad this year.

My knee is a lot better today after the shot I got yesterday. Not nearly as much griding going on in my knee, which I must say pleases me to no end. MUCH less uncomfortable. Hopefully when I've gotten the other two shots it will feel as good as new. (I doubt that it will feel that good, but I'm hoping for continued improvements with the next 2 shots.) That would be good because all of my other injured joints are giving me problems with this doggone cold. I'm NOT going to do shots in everything else that hurts, so luckily only one other joint is anywhere near as bad as that knee.

Anyway, everyone take care and stay warm. I'm going to go bring my laundry in and get ready for work tomorow...and maybe turn the heat up a little bit...

There was much rejoicing!

What is up with me? I was exhausted when we got back from the hospital and Vic didn't even need a transfusion, so it was a "short" day.

Want to start a new book. I've been putting it off for days now.

Hope you are all doing better at your food than I. Today is OK but yesterday was still a bummer.

Wishing you all good times and many laughs,

Gail

Penny = Do you suppose our sore throats are spread through the internet.
It is just that time of year. I hope we are all over these bugs before Christmas.

emoticon It has been 12 years since our cat was hit by a car. I am supposedly allergic to dogs. But, we dog-sat for our grand-dog who is suppose to be low allergy. I didn't have any problems - unless it led to my cold and I didn't know it. We have been talking about getting one. Not sure as we don't have a fenced in yard.

emoticon Vali - it hasn't been that cold here yet. This coming weekend, the temp is suppose to drop. I just looked out as we are suppose to be getting snow overnight. Maybe it has missed us.

I found out yesterday that my last day of radiation is a week from Friday. 9 sessions to go. I am experiencing the exhaustion. I wanted to watch THE CLOSER, which came on at 9 p.m. I had had a nap earlier. But I only made it half way through. Now, I am awake & trying to be quiet so I don't wake up DH. I have a PT appointment at 8 a.m. They are doing ultrasound on my hips. Plus I have an exercise routine. The one exercise is similar to squats, only I am only to only go down 25*% of the way down of what I usually would do - then hold it as long as I can. It is suppose to strengthen my legs.

The one advantage of not feeling well - is that I don't go shopping. I had stocked my freezer and pantry and am making good use of what was stored. I am going to do something with the crockpot later today.

Hello everyone. I don't really know where I've been for the first 5 days of December, think maybe I just fell into a time warp and finally found my way out on the 5th. emoticon It's been cold here...that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it. Maybe not so bad for those of you who don't live where I live, but cold as heck for us.

Today was the worst. Our low temperature last night was 7 degrees (which is major cold for us) and our high today was a balmy 23 degrees! emoticon I got my first hyaluronic acid shot in my left knee today and a friend drove me to the appointment, just in case. When I opened up the door to let her in...I thought I was going to die from the blast of cold air that blew in! We're just not used to this kind of weather in this part of New Mexico, that's for sure. Tonight it's only supposed to get down to 9 degrees, so maybe I'll stop whining tomorrow...not likely, but it could happen...

Aside from the unreasonably cold weather (feel like I'm living in upstate New York again) things are pretty good here. The shot in my knee really didn't hurt at all, though my knee was a bit stiff and sore after the stuff the doctor sprayed on to numb it wore off. My knee wasn't grinding as much as it usually does after the shot and hopefully I'll see a lot more improvement after I get the other two shots. I'm too tired to remember what's going on with everyone else and comment on it tonight, but I do hope that the start of the week was good for all of you. I'll try to write before I'm this sleepy next time. Everyone have a terrific Tuesday. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Hello Friends,
Penny- I sure hope they find what is causing your dizzy spells! That just does not sound right at all. Good luck with that and keep us posted! I can mend things if I have to but don't like to! lol

Gail- Those were great ideas especially about the flowers! I love flowers and I think most people do so that is a great Christmas gift to give people! I want to do something for Caitlin's Mom for Christmas so I may just give them some money to go to Wal-Mart and pick some flowers for her. I know they have those arrangements for $10. I buy them sometimes just for myself!

I don;'t even have to buy Maddie anything! Erin bought her a tea set she said could be from me and Chris and Caitlin are buying her a sleeping bag or a tent. She really does not need much of anything! She has a lot of things and way too many toys! I am really excited about going to stay with them for 2 weeks!

Hope everyone has a great day!

It's getting colder & the winds really high. They're talking snow. My throat hurts & I'm not feeling so hot.

Doing the wash but only hanging the tops out on the back porch. well, Bill's doing that for me. Will use the dryer for the rest. Then have to vaccume (love pets but they sure can get hair all over the place) & then I'mm just going to work on the quilt & watch some more Miss Marble movies. They're on VHS tapes but I love the old Britich movies.

Got a date for some more tests on the 23. I'm hoping that thye can tell what's causing the dizzy spells.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Thanks for the tips.

I have been under the weather with a bad cold since Thursday. The good news is it should be done and over with in another week. And Christmas is still a way off.

Have a great week.

Good Monday Morning:

Well, I slept till 5:30am today. WOO HOO. Today will be my first day off the medicine and I'm doing much better. Still on the sinus rinse and the nose drops. That medicine, as they warned, made me eat like crazy. Hopefully, today will be normal. I'm planning on making a home-made vegetarian split pea soup.

I may have mentioned it last year but one of the things I do every year is give flowers as a gift for the holidays. Flowers are enormously expensive, but I can get three fancy bouquets in glass vases for about $15 with tax. That's $5 each. Here's how:

1. I get 3 glass vases at a thrift store at about 99 cents each.
2. Using my stash of fancy ribbon and ornaments that I picked up at the thrift stores after Christmas years ago, I decorate each vase. I'm not very talented so I get inspiration from Teleflora arrangements I see on the net.
3. I go to our local supermarket and get 3 bouquets for $10. There is one store in town that has a very talented lady in the floral section. She trained for 5 years in NYC and arranges the bouquets in the 3 decorated vases that I bring in. She then packages each with a base box and floral paper and Voila....3 bouquets for about $15. I promise you they rival Teleflora's arrangements going for $50-$60 each.

Another suggestion: I donate new items that I will not use around the holidays. This year I donated to our local Hospice thrift store. They included: a stuffed animal, some 2012 wall calendars, a fancy museum luggage tag, and a very fancy stainless steel refrigerator magnet that has a conversion chart. I figure some folks will be able to get a good deal on a new item that would be just right for someone on their list.

Another thing I do from time to time is frequent the clearance section at the discount stores: Tuesday Morning, TJ Maxx, Marshall's. The bargains I've gotten included:

A set of 4 crystal wine goblets..in a new box..for $5. These exact ones were selling at a local major department store for $17.95 EACH.

A crystal candy dish originally $120 for $14.95.

A very large duffel bag with wheels originally $75 for $10. (I waited on line at 7:30 am for this one which was advertised as a special at Tuesday Morning. It was a secret Santa gift for a special co-worker and we were limited to a $10 maximum/per gift. It was the first and last time I ever waited on line to get a deal as soon as a store opened.)

A very fancy large black umbrella originally $70 for $10.

What are your thrifty hints?

Gail

Yep, a lot of "old" ways of doing things are coming back in style.
Your suggestion of making a sewing basket would be a good idea for a holiday gift.
I'd never considered that because I seem to be the only one I know that doesn't throw something out when it gets a little hole in it -- except for socks; those get knotted in the middle and become dog toys. (Sometimes I stick a squeaky toy in the sock and knot the end -- that drives her crazy.)

Everyone:
There's a new calculator to figure out how much you'll lose if the President's tax cuts for the Middle Classes don't get extended -- "Extending the President's cut would help middle-class Americans hold on to more of their paychecks to the tune of $1,500 a year."

Darla. my dad taught me to mend. I can't get my stitches as tiny as his was but I find mending to be very relaxing with quilting coming in second. When I go to my DD I always do her mending. she isn't into sewing but am trying to teach my 13 yr old. In fact, i do mending for some of my friends. They don't find it relaxing - even those that know how to do it.

It's cold & wet. Supposed to snow later on.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Hello Friends,
My Niece is making lap quilts and I am thinking of doing that too. My mom knew how to make quilts but never finished one when I was a little girl but she could crochet and crochet around washclothes which I wished I had learned. But I do think I am going to try and learn the quilts.

Gail- I lived in disabled housing at the time and my rent was only $50 which my brother paid and I had food stamps for food and tried to work some temporary jobs but they didn't work out and it reallly took me hiring the lawyer to get it done. I would like to just work part time from now on but not sure about that with all my debt. But I guess I will just take it one day at a time. I lose so much being off the disability because eventually I would lose my medicare and my precritions are about $60 a msonth working full time with insu they are $400 a month and with no ins over $2000 a month! And for some reason I can work a full time job for about a year and then I start making mistakes. I just don't handle stress very well. And I have a lot of family members that stress me out. I am not stressed out around my kids and granddaughter but I am around other family members but here I am away from all of them so I am a lot less stressed out.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Bill wants to mess around town. I think he's bored or else he's trying to get it where I'm not doing anything. The weather looks like it cold really break open at any time. Guess we'll go to Target. They always have something new!

Went to the auction & got a small egg white beater. Really old. It has the little beaters & the glass jar - in perfect shape. I really love some of the old stuff. And I've noticed that we seem to be going bact to it.

I'm still working on quilting my DD g-grandmothers quilt top. She didn't get the top finiished so I'm doing it as a wall quilt. DD doesn't like to sew but am trying to teach my 13 yr old GD. In fact I may make her a sewing basket of her own.

Sounds like everyone is busy. Hope you all have a good & safe day! emoticon

Good Morning:

Boy, though they warned me about it, this medicine I'm on to hopefully shrink the polyps in my nose really makes me jumpy. I have so much energy I've been going like a dynamo. Thankfully I'm feeling so much better. I hope all this stuff I'm taking does the trick. The CT scan said that my sinuses are normal and that my right septum is a bit deviated. If the meds do the trick with the polyps the surgery is off the table. Say a little prayer for me please. That surgery is a real horror. I had it in March of 2009 so I know this first hand.

I got all my holiday cards out yesterday and am really glad about that. I posted 48. (Please see my blog.) It was only the postage that drew the expense this year. For years and years we bought boxes on boxes of cards that we stashed. Over the past couple of years I've stopped buying them and started using them. It serves two purposes: It uses what I have so it takes up less storage space; it saves on the expense.

Wishing you all a very happy Saturday.

Gail

Darla: Egads! Pushing it through faster took two years for them to approve your SS disability? What do people do in the meantime?

As for Vic's treatments, they are not radiation; he gets two subcutaneous shots in the arm each day for 10 days. The reason his arms hurt (he alternates arms throughout the 10 day go-round) is because the stuff they shoot into him is very thick. One of the reasons his quality of life is so good is that once his GI system settled down, the soreness in the arms is the only "side effect" he's had. After the 10 days it takes about 3 days before his arms are all better.

Enjoy each day.

Susan- I have been on disabilty for a lot of years. I hired a disabilty lawyer and that helped push it through faster but it took me 2 years. I got off of it to work full time then lost my job and my kids don't want me to try and work full time again and I think they are right. It is just too hard for me to hold a full time job right now. I hope you get approved soon!

Hello Friends,
Gail I agree with you and Penny. Sometimes the sale is not really that good a sale. They like to make things sound like a sale when they are not sometimes. I am sorry to hear Vic was not doing too good. Glad he has some rest now from his radiation treatments.

Penny hope they find out why you are passing out . That has to be so frightening.

I got the kitchen cleaned up and put some clothe on to wash and dry. I wrote down last night everything I would need for my new apt so that made me feel good. I do regret now not getting more of my stuff but it can be replaced so that is good. I will be going to Arizona for Christmas with Erin and Maddie and when I get back look for a part time job. I am so glad things are looking up and I will have my checks coming in every month and be able to slow down some. I have taken care of my kids and Mom for so many years and now it is way past time for me to just take better care of myself. I hope everyone has a good day!

Gail, there's stuff like that all over the place around here. They make you think you're getting a bargain & you're not. And more & more things are really just thrown together that they don't hold up for long. Around here, there's a lot of people complaning about how much they HAVE to pay for each gift or the number of gifts they HAVE to give each person. I really can't see where one gift, per child, and 1 gift per couple wouldn't fit. And they don't have to cost an arm & a leg either! Most of the time, 2 weeks later on, they can't even tell you what all they got. We've lost the spirit of Christmas, I think.

The weather man just said some really bad weather is getting ready to come in. Had a doctor's appointment & have to have some more tests to find out why I keep haing these fainitng spells.
Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Good Morning:

I went to the Mall yesterday to pick up a little gift for my daughter and sil. EGADS! I was blown away with sticker shock. They wanted $7.99 each for a very nice dish towel. I had received a $10 of any purchase of $10 or more so I wound up paying $6 and change....which I thought was reasonable. Goodness, here are all these signs: 50% off, 30% off, etc. so they want you to think you're getting a deal. But the "original" price is so sky high I'd be a fool to pay it. Every time I go I am reminded of why I hate to shop.

Vic drove himself to chemo in the Thursday morning. About noon I called him because he still wasn't back. He had be dragging since Wednesday, but refused to acknowledge it. Anyway, he was a bit dizzy and the nurses thought he might be a bit dehydrated so they gave him fluids. While they were at it they gave him a blood test and told him he needed a transfusion. A friend drove me to UW hospital so that I could be with him and drive him home. He left the house sometime a little after 8am and we didn't get home till about 4PM. It was another long day. Happily, yesterday was the 10th day of chemo, so now he's off for 18 days.

Wishing you all a happy Friday.

Gail

Hello Friends,
I love Christmas time and I have several Dec birthdays in my family but I only buy birhday and Christmas gifts for my kids and my granddaughter but this year it will only be for my granddaughter as I am saving my money for moving into my own apt. I went to social Security yesterday and I will get a disablity check in a few weeks! I just hope and pray it comes in before Dec 21 when I fly to Arizona to spend Christmas with my daughgter Erin and my cute little 4 year old granddaughter Maddie! All that matters about Christmas is just spending the time with the people you love the most! We always go see a movie on Christmas Day which is always fun and Christmas Eve Erin and Maddie and I will be riding a train that will reinact the Polar Express! If you have not seen this movie you need to rent it during Chrismas time. Tom Hanks did the whole movie by himself and is all of the chacters on the train! It is so good!

My Goal for Dec is to try and keep my weight down and start planning for all I will need for having my own apt and a part time job after Christmas. I can make 1000 gross so that with my check,is about $1400 so I can make it on that! Hope everyone has a wonderful Dec.

I honestly don't shop for my grandchildren for Christmas. They are young and so hyped by all the gifts they already receive. I'd rather just wait until their birthdays and give them something.

Good Morning:

Well I got up bright and early today to make banana bread. I got a bagful of bananas for 79 cents (total, not per pound) and though most were green, four were really ripe. Mmm, I thought, ....banana bread. I had just enough time this morning to make them for the nurses, and send Vic off to his last day of chemo in this go-round.

Hope you all have a good day and for those of you who are under the weather, get well soon.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Same here, but yesterday morning.
It's not really sore, just on the borderline.
I've already lost days because of the holiday (no pay for holidays).

About ten years ago, other people told me how much money they HAD TO SPEND on family members and it turned me off of giving presents.
First, a woman at work told me that she HAD TO SPEND more than $100 for each immediate family member or there would be trouble, and that they all knew prices of things so they'd know how much she spent. Then some other people agreed with her (they had the same situation).
Then I heard the reverse from teenagers at a school where I was teaching: "I told my parents that they'd better get me -----, or else."

I've already had all the bad things thrown at me early in life, so now that those are out of the way, my future should be wonderful.

You know, it's funny. When I was younger I loved getting presents, no matter the occasion. My perspective now is very different. Good health, kindness, thoughtfulness, these are the things that truly matter most for me. I'd gladly give up my present to make someone very happy. My needs are simple. What I need to do is give myself a present by taking better care of me.

I don't have holiday gifts to buy.
Just concentrating on myself, and looking around to see what other jobs are available.

Avoiding stress by focusing on what really matters, relationships, getting outside and being active. Rather than buying lots of Christmas gifts I want to think about what people really need that does not cost money, maybe a letter, a phone call, having a meal together, helping them with something, all ways to say "I love you and care about you." emoticon

My goal for this month is to not stress and to get a me time in once a week.

HARPLUTE - I shop all year for Christmas presents and stash them away. I start right after Christmas especial at Kohl's. I brought my daughter a nice part of warm pants and 2 sweaters for a total of $ 15.00 and that is including a 15% off. I think shopping all year you can save you and you are missing the crowds.
