Hello Friends,
Gail I agree you never have to apoloogize. I can only imagine how hard all of this is for you. I am so sorry that Vic is sicker now. I keep you both in my prayers!

We went to Erin's best friend from high school house last night. Her and her husband went to Paris and she had the best chocalate I have ever tasted ! it meltted in my hands and had a creamy middle! They don't make choc like that here! She got Maddie a lot of presents and Erin all the Harry Potter movies in blue ray and gave me 2 books in a series that are romance called the monk upstairs and the monk downstairs. So we had a lot of fun. tonight one of her other friends is coming over. have a good evening!

Gail, I'm so very glad to hear that the medication Vic needs to fight this pneumonia is going to be fully covered. That's wonderful news! So that's one thing that you don't need to worry about...now we'll just have to work on the million other things...

Kurt, I lived in upstate New York when I was a kid. 57 degrees on December 30th where you are is no more normal than umpteen days with overnight temperatures below 20 degrees is where I am. I kinda wish that we could trade weather patterns right now, but oh well. You're gonna get mind soon enough.

Well my work week is over, and so is my work year. emoticon I just get my normal 2 weekend days off, but the principal of the whole thing is nice. No more 2011. No marriage or divorce in 2012. It's all wrapped up and over with and I, for one, couldn't be happier. There are a few things I wish that 2011 would keep instead of passing along to 2012, like shots in my knee kind of come to mind. emoticon But I'm determined to make next year a better year than this last year has been. I don't celebrate by drinking so no champagne for me, but maybe I'll make a celebratory necklace or something. I've got one that I've been planning in my mind for quite a while, so maybe that's how I should celebrate the new year.

At any rate, I hope that all of you have a safe and peaceful New Year's Eve, regardless of how you choose to celebrate it. I'll be here at home with my 2 furry little children, drinking water instead of champagne and hoping for better things to come in the new year.

There was much rejoicing!

If I heard the radio correctly, the high today will be 57 degrees!
In case you're not familiar with NYC, this weather is not even close to normal.

Good Morning:

Well, yesterday was a rough day in more ways than one. I dropped Vic off at the hospital for his chemo and went to have my hair colored. Our sil brought him home. As soon as I got home Vic told me they gave him an x-ray because of his cough and he had to go back to the hospital to see the hematologist. So, back to the hospital we went. It turns out he has a fungal pneumonia. They needed prior authorization for his medication. I learned later a month's supply is $3,200. The doctor gave us one dose from their supply and, since they expedited the authorization request, hoped we would hear in 24 hours. We drove back towards home and stopped at McDonalds since Vic hadn't had anything to eat since breakfast. While waiting for our order they called on our emergency cell phone and said the authorization came through, and so back to the hospital we went. The insurance covered the drugs 100% so we had no out of pocket costs. Still, I was totally wiped out by the time we got home. He was still coughing (it takes a while before the medication does its thing) and he looked so frail and gaunt that it's scaring me a lot. He's confident he will get better. (See my last blog.)

Today I'm going to prepare several dishes for him. It will be a while before I get everything done because each vegetable has to be washed thoroughly in soapy water, rinsed and then diced into small bits, but I'm happy to do it. He needs to gain weight since he lost another pound last week and is now down to 157. Not good.

Sorry for going on and on. Just writing things down seems to help.

Enjoy the day and Happy New Year to all. Hope 2012 brings us all good health, prosperity and lots and lots of laughs.

Gail

Darla: So glad things are looking up for you.

Enjoy each day.

Hello Friends,
I am still in Arizona with erin my daughter Maddie my granddaughter and Cindy who is older than me and is her roomate and Maddie's babysitter. I go back to San Antonio Jan. 8th. I feel a little better today. It may just be a cold and not bronchitis it just usually turns into bronchtis. I called SS today and my first check is less than I thought it would be and my first check is Jan 3 will be $766 a month anrd then I can make $1000 gross and that will be enough for me to have my own apt and pay my own bills. So that was good news! She had told me $671 so I am happy it is more! So hopefully I will still get the first one within the next few days. Hope everyone is having a good day!

We're getting up into the upper 40s in the afternoons, which is nice. But I could really live without 20 and below at night. emoticon But I guess it could be worse and I should stop complaining about it...but I'm not gonna because you guys would probably think there was an imposter using my computer. emoticon

Darla, don't you know that you're not supposed to get sick(er) over Christmas? Were you sick the whole time that you were visiting your family, or did it just start when you were getting ready to come home? I really hope that you start feeling better soon.

So just a few more days left in this year, can't really say that I'm sad to see this one go. Do you make resolutions for the new year? I don't because I don't want to start my year out by setting myself up for failure, but that's just how things work for me. What resolutions and/or plans for the new year have you guys made?

For me, I'm hoping to get my back injury issues cleared up sometime soon, and then I'm planning on starting to work out for pretty much the first time in my life. (Well, at least for the first time when I was really serious about it...) I really need to do something to get myself back on track with the (seriously stalled) weight loss. I'm trying to eat better, too, but that's not going terribly well because I'm only cooking for one person now and it's much easier to get sick of my own cooking and give it up for a while now that I don't have someone else to try to feed. I know it's all just excuses, but it's where I'm at. I guess I need to make cooking more another one of my non resolutions...

Anyway, I hope everyone has a really good end of the year and that we all start out the new year on a positive note...and a warmer one...

There was much rejoicing!

We're supposed to go down to the 30s, and it's really cold and windy -- very windy -- right now.

My afternoon class just ended, and mine was the last of the afternoon ESL classes (there were no others planned after this one).
We had a party with homemade Pakistani and Chinese food.
I'm stuffed, and Vivi will probably be the only eating dinner tonight when I get home.
Whenever I eat over a certain limit, I don't feel hungry until the next day.
The evening class is now two classes combined -- one teacher quit before she got fired. So, half the class ends on January 11th, and the rest of them continue until April. That means I'll get a definite 20 hours a week, but not sure about anything else right now.

I hope everyone is holding up well. When bad times happen during the holidays, it seems to magnify them -- I know that from experience. So, I hope everyone finds the strength to make it through whatever difficulties they're going through.
It's almost New Year's.

Hello Friends,
Well it seems all that cold I had on the train has turned into bronchitis. I feel bad all over and just really acchey. I sleep on my Cpap machine at night to breathe but can;t wear it when I can't breathe thru my nose. so I had it on part of the time last night but not all night which makes me tireder during the day. And I don;t have all of my Bipolar meds. My check still has not come in and I get one for sure on Jan. 3 so they may end up being in at the same time but most of it goes to my medicare premium. But I will have enough to get home on. I got here on $19! It was stretching it! I had a layover in Las Vegas and really wanted to play the slots but too many people in the airport and hard to find a seat. I forgot where I switch planes on the way back. Glad everyone is getting back to regular routines! We have all the Christmaws put up so it is back to normal here! Hope everyone has a good day. Pat we are here for you!

Pat, I'm so sorry for your loss. It's always too soon to lose a parent.

emoticon emoticon

Kurt, since you're going to get some of our cold (and no, I did NOT order it for you) maybe you can send us some of your warm. Pretty please? It would make me soooo happy...

Our afternoon temperatures have been a bit warmer, but our overnights are still in the teens. A couple of summers ago I almost bought a heated ice scraper that you plug in to the cigarette lighter in your car. I didn't order it because we hardly ever need anything like that around here. Isn't hindsight great stuff? emoticon

I hope that getting back into the swing of things after the holiday has gone okay for everyone. We haven't had much work this week in the lab, but that's okay beause it has allowed me to get a couple of projects done that I've had to keep putting off for a while. I hope that the rest of the week goes really well for everyone.

There was much rejoicing!

Afternoon All,

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I have put January Challenge up. I know it is early but, I feel it is a good one.

Hope everyone is having a great week. I have our son coming in after the first of January. He will be here until the 16th. Then my BIL will be here between the 16 and the 20th of January.
BIL had a delay as he got sick and the doctor was afraid that the cancer went to his lungs. He is doing fine he is allergic to mold. He had been staying at a friends place that a pipe broke and we are thinking that it was cleaned properly and that mold is growing on the wood behind the wall.

Happy New Years Everyone!

Hello Friends.
Pat I am so sorry for your loss . I know you did so much to take care of your Dad and now you and your husband have to take care of yourselves during this time. You are in my prayers and we are all here for you. Take good care of yourself right now. I had to do that when my Mom died and still have sad moments but I know we did all we could for her. Your family is in my prayers!

I am having fun playing with Maddie. I am glad I have until Jan., 8th here., I have to start thinking of some of my resolutions for 2012. What are yours??

I haven't been on for awhile but trying to catch up a little reading tonite since I can't sleep. If you read my blog you know my dad passed away tonite. It has been a rough 4 days and I was trying to be optimistic that he would come back from his fall and it has been up and down and they were even talking rehab to me but his poor heart just gave out. We know he is in a better place but still think we are in a state of shock. When we left the hospital tonite he laughed a bit and joked he wouldn't chase the nurses and 90 min later he was gone.
I don't know how much I will be on-trying to remember everything I need to do and have been making notes. Funeral will be in Illinois and in fact, his body is already being readied to head north. I have a brother who is out of the country so trying to get in contact with him and not sure how soon he can get back so don't know when funeral will be till we get that info. DH really should not miss his radiation but going to talk to the dr today and find out if any days off would be acceptable and we might be able to work out something.

I finally got my own Internet connection at home (no sharing anymore), so I'll be able to check in more often.
I just connected it tonight.

The spring-like weather has come to an end and we're supposed to get a cold monsoon season starting Monday. It's easier to deal with middle temperatures instead of extremes.

They're saying that this was the biggest Christmas in several years. They're also saying that today is going to be a big shopping day also. I don't intend to go out.

I'm doing the wash & some light house keeping. Bill made a stew. While yesterday was bright/sunny and in the 50's today is in the 30's & grey/dreary. This afternoon is supposed to start snowing with some rain in it.

Hope everyonehas a good & safe day! emoticon

Good Morning:

Vic didn't feel well enough to go to Christmas dinner at a friend's last night so I went by myself. When I got home he was feeling a bit better and watching the Packers, and, since they won,, he was a happy camper.

Just three more days of chemo and he's done for this go-round...thankfully.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I took time off for a few days from spark, although I spun the first wheel each day. Then today, I won a SparkPeople Fitness DVD on the SparkPoints Bonus Wheel!
We don't have a working DVD player. I know I can play it on the computer, but perhaps we can find a deal on a player in the near future.

We don't all celebrate the same holiday, but I hope each of you enjoyed your celebrations. We are actually still celebrating Christmas. We spent part of Saturday, Sunday, and again today with a different one of our children. Three live near by. The other two get phone calls at best.

It is in the mid 20's here.A bit nippy.

I saw an article that interested me on good places to retire. It mentioned the average cost of housing. It said that Pittsburgh, Pa.had the Best mix of affordability and amenities. The median home sale price was $97,900 in 2010. That is about the value of my two bedroom home with a fairly large lot. I am just wondering what the condition of the homes are. I can't imagine a 3-4 bedroom family home. They cost about $150,000 here. I am glad we are not shopping.

Merry Christmas everyone. Hope you all had a great one.

I had Christmas dinner with my in town relatives and some friends of theirs. It was nice, but I had to keep my mouth shut most of the time because there was only one person there with whom I would have been able to agree on anything political at all, and of course the people who were there managed to bring out some political aspect of absolutely everything we talked about. Biting my tongue is not my best characteristic, but I was able to keep my mouth shut and enjoy myself. I would have been just as happy to have stayed at home, but it was nice to see two of my cousins who were in town and the spouse of one of them. Hopefully I won't have to do it again anytime soon, but it was actually okay.

The cold here continues.

emoticon emoticon It's 18 degrees right now but at least our overnight temerature is only supposed to go down to 17. Over the next few days it's actually supposed to get up to the high 30s and maybe even 40 degrees. That would be nice but I'm not going to believe it until I see it. I'm ready for spring already...

I hope that everyone has had a marvelous Christmas or a fabulous Hanukah or whatever you celebrate. Stay warm.

Hello Friends,
We drive 3 hours from Phoenix Ariz to close to Flagsstaff Ariz . We saw snow on the way and Maddie had never seen snow and someone had built a snowman so we took pictures in front of the snowman. The mountains were so pretty topped with snow! We boarded the Polar Express Train and got a cookie and hot choc. then they read the book and then we were at the North Pole where we saw Santa's house including a candy store and Santa was on his sleigh and then we had a reindeer not really on the track and then it went backwards and we found out Santa was on the train and he gave each of us a bell and key chain and before we got off we got a mug that says Hot Choc! We sang Christmas songs too! It was so great! Then we went through Mc Donalds and drove 3 hours back and got home about 11 pm,. Maddie woke up Erin, ,me and then Cindy so she could open her presents,. Erin got me the movie The Help and Bridesmaids! Cindy got me a shawl and a teal sweater and we are just waiting for the Turkey to cook and watching movies! Merry Christmas to all of you and your famlies!

Penny, the reason why Coumadin makes such good rat poison is that it makes the rats bleed to death internally. What it does for people is to keep their blood from clotting in their bodies, which lowers the risk of strokes and other things that blood clots can cause. For some patients it can be hard to get the levels right, but that big pain in the hind end is compensated by the decreased risk of medical events that can kill you. The upside of Coumadin is that it's a pill that you can take at home, as opposed to an IV medication that you can only receive in a hospital. I can understand why you don't want to have to take it, but if your doctor tells you that he wants to put you on it then I would encourage you to take it. (Some people are able to get off of it, by the way.)

So here we are on Christmas Eve...and it actually feels like appropriate weather for the day before Christmas. We've made it up above freezing, but not by much. (It's 35 degrees and I know that some of you are wishing that your temperature would make it up that high...) We've gotten a little bit of snow recently but not the kind that sticks around in my area. The people on the east side of the mountain are probably having a hard time getting around right now because they get a lot more snow than we get on our side of the mountain, and that's why I don't live there. (I really don't think I'd like that commute very much even when it's warm.) It's nice and sunny so hopefully tomorrow will be a nice day, too.

I'm going to spend Christmas afternoon with my in town relatives. Two of my three cousins are in town for the holiday and it will be nice to see 4/5 of the family. Their oldest child, who has three children, decided a few years ago that we're no longer going to give gifts to adults and that has made this yearly gathering a bit easier on everyone.

So anyway, I hope that you all have a truly blessed Christmas. Stay warm and be happy. emoticon

Thanks, Kurt. Just not very up dated on these things!

Saw my doctor yesterday, Seems that I have atrial fibrillation & high blood preassure that added to my age makes me a high risk for a stroke. I had an EKG yesterday & will have the chemical stress test nexy Wednesday. He's thinking of putting me on coumadin which I don't want. The same stuff they use to make that is also used to make rat posion & once you're on it regually you can never get off of it. I told Bill that I was so tired of all this babying & either sitting or laying down all the time. At this rate I'll never get my strength back. He's not happy with me at this point but i reminded him of them telling me to do as much as i could everyday before all of this began. We'll see.

It's cold but sunny here today. No bad eather expected for a few days.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Hello Friends,
I sure can't help you! I barely know how to use a computer much less fix one! lol Chris dropped me off at the airport at 1 pm and I found out my flight was delayed 2 hours! It was coming from Chicago and was having probems with the snow. There was a Santa taking free pictures with everyone so I decided to take my picture with him because I knew it would make Maddie laugh and she laughed a lot about that! I missed my orginal flight out of Las Vegas but got me on another one. All I wanted was food by then and they had a Burger King so I was able to get some food. I got in about 1030! Erin and Maddie had to wait a long time! Erin said we are going to the airport and she said to pick up Gram Gram! She is so smart so it was not a surprise after all! lol We opened a few presents and Erin bought me a long sleeve pink sweater to wear Christmas Eve on the train! I love it! Pink is my favorite color. It is Maddie;s too! It was also my Grandaddy;s who wore pink shirts long before men did that! He lived to be 94 years old! Mom wanted to live as long as he did but she just had too many problems. Her mother died at 66 complications with Diabetes and Mom too at 75/! I am also Diabetic but dermined to get this weight off and reverse it! I only take a pill so I know I can do it! I am just so happy to be here wiht ?Erin and Maddie. Maddie was not going to sleep tonight so she told her Santa does not come for girls who don't sleep! lol She is funny Mom!

Wi-Fi is wireless. Most people get a high-speed land line connection and attach a wireless transmitter so it can be used within the house. Ask people who have computers if you can get a faster line in your area and how who you would get it from.

Everyone:
Weather prediction for NYC: sunny and a high of 49 on Christmas Day -- no snow or rain.
It's like autumn weather right now.

Kurt, what's Wi-Fi? We have a land-line because that's all we're offered. Charter cable came to the end of our lane this summer but in order for us to get it the 6 other families have to take it also & we've all already gotten satellite so they won't install it just for us. Dial up is so slow. When I change things I do other things while it's changing.

We're ready for Christmas. The youngest GS (5) says to get there early. Just need to finish filling the new book shelves in the orange room. Did I say I was a book addict? Big time.

Need to get my ironing done & get started on the book cases. Sparks is giving me fits & AOL also.

Hope everyone is having a good & safe day! emoticon

Good Morning:

It snowed last night. Not a lot but enough to shovel. Got to go out and do the walk so I don't get fined. The neighbors who always do it for us left last night to spend Christmas with family in NY.

Hope your day goes well,

Gail

I to the grocery store and got things for Christmas dinner. Stopped by the drug store and picked up a few stocking stuffier. Getting my hair cut tomorrow, I had let it grow out again as I wanted to go back to a bob. Plus the girl that cut my hair has been out for 5 weeks with a broken hand.

Worked on the yard and some sewing that I had put off. Also, Hubby worked on the shed in back and cleaned it out. We still have more to do. Will finish up tomorrow.

Can't believe how fast this year has gone, let alone that Christmas is Sunday.

Well, I hope that everyone has a very Merry Christmas

Well I did have to scrape ice off my car this morning, but it was actually warmer today than it has been in a while. I loved it. emoticon I'm sure that the rest of you think I'm a big baby complaining about how cold it has been here when it gets colder where you live, but keep in mind that it just doesn't get this cold here terribly often. Like every 8 to 10 years it does, but the rest of the time it's much warmer here. A few years ago we had high temperatures around zero degrees for a week or two...and the entire city pretty much shut down. emoticon At least this year the city has a few snow plows, that's a bit of improvement. emoticon Hopefully soon our warmer weather will come back to us...

My knee felt okay today. By the end of the day one side of my kneecap was hurting a little bit, but that's a vast improvement over the aftermath of the last shot. I didn't feel any grinding at all ( emoticon ) and I don't think it cracked at all this morning, either. I'll take that, that's for sure. I have a follow up visit in early January and then I'll probably get another series of injections in about 6 months. Beats the heck out of surgery.

I'm sure I could say more but I'm exhausted. I'm going to sign off and go to sleep now (it's just after 5:00) and I'll chat with all of you again tomorrow.

There was much rejoicing!

Where's the dog photo? All is saw was a lawn ornament.
The Wi-Fi in the house will probably not be restored, and I don't have a land-line phone to get one of my own, so I'll just be using the one at school (like now).

COPPERPENNY45:
The NYC subway system is not all underground, and it was once many different lines owned by different companies before the City bought them all and connected them.
So, the service can vary in different parts of the five boroughs.
And, they've been fixing everything for years (probably decades) because previous administrations hadn't done the maintenance they'd claimed they were doing. Usually, the work is done during non-rush hours (when I have to get to work) and on weekends (when I have to do errands).

EVERYONE:
The school had a Christmas Party. I had a class during that time, so I went down and got food when I had the chance. I also took a little "doggie" cup (no bags) of turkey, beef, gravy, rice and beans mixed together. (60: You'll be doing this soon, too. I just know your dog is going to get spoiled like mine.)

The weather report is for rain, and definitely no snow for the holidays in the Tri-State Area (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut).

It's been raining here for several days. The weatherman said it might snow later on.

We took 2 friends out to lunch yestrday & did some errands.

Vali, had to go to the post office & the man was grippy but the lady was nice. The line was all the way from the door to the counter but still -----! Had to pay the higher price to get it there before Christmas. Just couldn't get motivated to get all this done.

Plan on geting the rest of the gifts wrapped today. Then want to fill my new book shelves & get that room in order. Have that darned test on Friday & really dread it for some reason. I told Bill that I did not want to be in the hospital over Christmas! That would rally be the icing on the cake for this year!

60, Corky really sound like a neat dog. I'm hoping o find another Siamese. And, maybe, a Boxer. Bill said anymore dogs were mine. have to check with the Humane Shelter. That's where we get most of the pets we've had or have.

Kurt, I'd read where New Your had the best transportain of any big city. I don't understand how they all pick out what's more important than comes first. Some of it doesn't make sence.

Have to get busy so hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

For the Inquiring Minds [including VALI_T] Check my recent blog. There is a picture of the dog. This is the picture from the Rescue Team. We don't have any of our photos on the computer yet. The dog is settling in. DH is already feeding her every time he turns around, even though he was warned not to. When I fix myself eggs, I usually discard at least one yolk. I was going to feed them to the dog, but I read through a pet care book at the store / $16 so I didn't buy it. The book said not to feed it eggs etc., because it would make the dog fat. I think I still will occasionally, but reduce the amount of dog food. We need a spark meal plan just for the dog.

Val - be careful tomorrow going to work.

Been really busy as it looks like my BIL will be here sooner than we thought. Also been busy cleaning and baking and wrapping gifts. Was able to afford a few things for my Hubby. I sold a few things on eBay and got rid of a few old pieces of gold. I am doing good and get things ready for the summer to have a garage sale.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Linda, bless you for taking on a rescue pet. There are so many dogs and cats out there needing homes that I think it's unconscionable to buy a purebred animal. I'm sure this sweet little thing is going to give you love and joy for many years to come. (BTW...maybe you should post a picture of her...hint, hint...)

I got my third shot today and it was not nearly as bad as the second one. My doctor told me last week that some people have problems with their second shot, but for me the third was just fine. I'm a little bit sore right now and doing my best to ice my knee...for as long as I can tolerate the ice pack...It's winter here today. It wasn't too cold when I got up and while my car was covered in snow, it was wet snow rather than icy snow. The same will probably not be true tomorrow morning. It's supposed to get down to 21 degrees so the snow that's been falling almost non-stop her today will eventually stop melting and start freezing on the streets and on my car. emoticon I'm going to shut the computer down and go to bed soon so that I'll be able to get myself up early enough to scrape ice and snow off of my car and drive to work at 20 miles per hour if the situation in the morning warrants it. The state is getting slammed by a big winter storm right now...and I'm sick of winter already...

There was much rejoicing!

Linda: Corky sounds darling. It's good that she lets you know when she has to go out and I'm sure, once she settles down, she'll sleep the night.

I've a busy week ahead. Tomorrow is Vic's weekly blood test. Wednesday I've a follow-up at the allergy clinic, and Friday, ah, Friday, is the Channukah dinner with a triple batch of latkas (potato pancakes). Boy, is that ever a job. Thankfully, it's only once a year.

Take care, have a good week, and do good things.

emoticon The dog arrived. She had probably escaped from some kind of puppy mill. For a 3 year old, has had multiple litters of puppies. Her fur is partially grown back in & we have to treat her for an ear problem. The rescue center will pay for any medical for the next two weeks. We named her Corky. She is well behaved and playful. We have been taking her outside a lot the first day. DH took her out at 1 a.m. because she barked. I just took her out because i was up.

Gail, Vic is right about the Zyrtec. I wish I could get my husband to take it regular. He quits after he feels good a few days, & then within a week he has another episode with his sinuses.

Vali,
You are five to ten degrees warmer than we are. I guess I expected a bigger difference. This morning we are suppose to be in the forty's - so now we may be warmer. I could understand having the blues, between the divorce and all your joint issues.

LINDA!
Enjoy your visit. I recall you visiting Ohio before. Ohio is a huge state, but I am right next door.

Well, I am getting hungry - so I guess I will fix some breakfast. I have been weighing my cereal. I don't eat near as much that way. If I am still hungry, I wait an hour before I eat again. I know those of you headed out for a job don't have that luxury. But I eat fewer calories in the long run.

Hi everyone. I hope you've all been having a good weekend. Our temperatures are up a little bit, either 37 or 44 degrees right now depending on which weather service I believe. But it's supposed to get down into the low 20s again tonight and we've got a big winter storm set to roll through the state. I guess they've already gotten hit with some snow and colder temperatures in the Four Corners region, but so far it's not too bad in the central portion of the state. But when I got up between 7:30 and 8:00 this morning I actually had to turn the heater on. emoticon

I'm still having serious motivational issues regarding the wrapping of Christmas presents. Maybe it's just post divorce holiday blues, but I just can't force myself to wrap those darn present so that I can box them up and send them on their merry way. I cleared off my table so that I could do the wrapping...but they're still not wrapped. I'm beginning to think that it's just not going to get done until after Christmas, and I'm more or less okay with that. I've got other things on my mind right now, the main one being the nagging feeling that the shot I'm getting in my knee tomorrow is probably going to be worse than the last one was. That thought doesn't make me very happy, but hopefully the three of them taken together will relieve the pain I've been experiencing with this knee for a while. (Supposed to be for 6 months.)

I had to turn the heat up a little bit again and Little Very Bad Girl Kitty is sitting in her usual spot on the desk enjoying the warm air as it blows on her. I wish I had her very difficult life, with food and getting petted being the only things I had to worry about. She slept under my top comforter last night, which I think was a hint to not be quite so frugal with the heat. emoticon

Anyway, that's about it for today. I think I'll go take a HOT shower soon so that I don't have to sit around with wet hair when it gets colder this evening. I hope that the new week starts out well for everyone.

There was much rejoicing!

Good Morning:

We had a bit of snow the night before last so yesterday I was out there with a shovel. To my amazement, nothing hurt afterward and my sinuses didn't act up. WOO HOO! I'm taking Vic's advice and popping a Zyrtec every day whether I think I need it or not.

Hope you are all hanging in there, staying well and not getting overwhelmed by the extra tasks of the season.

Enjoy every precious day,

Gail

Sixty: What a wonderful gift. Our daughter and sil adopted an abused and neglected puppy and the dog has been with them now for about 15 years! Hope you get lots of joy and affection from the pup.

emoticon The rescue foster parent of a little Maltese mixed, 3 year old dog - is bringing the dog over this after noon. The photo of the dog looks similar to the little emoticon. Apparently this was a puppy mill dog. The foster parent has to more or less check us out as satisfactory & have us fill out papers. I have a feeling these rescue groups are a better way to find a dog than through the shelter. We have to pay her expenses, including vet bills for several things and for a microchip. She will bring us a days worth of food. She is coming from a half hour a way. She actually buys her pet food at a local pet store. This store is one of the more thriving - non-chain - stores in our town. The owner manages the big fish tanks you see in doctor's offices and nursing homes, etc. Plus they have almost anything you want for your pets. His wife's parents are friends of ours.

The dog is our Christmas present - so we are really looking forward to this afternoon. emoticon

I hope all of you have a great week. emoticon

Hello Friends,
60- Hope you start feeling better soon. You are in my Prayers too!
Vali- Hope you feel better soon too.. No I have not got my check yet. I was hoping it would come in before I leave Wed to go to Arizona to see my daughter and granddaughter but it may not. My daughter says she has it covered if I don't. I have great kids! I did apply for 2 part time jobs online today. One in Human Resources and the other in Social Services. So hopefully I will get one of them.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Just stopping for a minute. Always glad to see what is going on with my frugal friends.

Having a rough time with expected effects of radiation - but it is now officially done. In two weeks, i am expected to start showing improvement.

Kurt, maybe it's wishful thinking. It may be that the year when there weren't long lines at the post office was the year when I waited until 3 days before Christmas to mail my packages. If I see a lot of cars at the post office on Monday I'll just pay for my postage online and print it at work, then I can tape it to my boxes and either just drop them off at the post office or leave them at my apartment office to be picked up by the mailman. Our main post office downtown is open 24 hours, or at least until midnight, on tax day. And now I really am going to bed.

There was much rejoicing!

The people in your area must be much smarter than here in NYC.
The Last Minute Lines at the post office are always unbelievable -- Christmas, Tax Deadline, whatever. The main post office in Manhattan would always set up extra, temporary windows to try to handle the masses, and there were always cart-tables for people to dump their stamped tax envelopes (in April) and stamped Christmas cards (in December) -- when the table filled up, they'd cart it off to get postmarked right away and replace it with an empty table.
The Tax season tables in the post offices were separated into Federal or City/State, and then Refund or No Refund.
I haven't had to deal with that in years, so I don't know if they still arrange to have 24-hour service at selected post offices in the City.

***

BTW, does anyone know if we've passed the shortest day of the year, yet?
It didn't seem to be as dark as usual at 5:30 pm today.

Hi everyone. I've had a pretty lousy few days and haven't been online much, and I've missed you guys. I'm not surprised that Kurt is having warmer weather than what we've been having in New Mexico. And I'd take Darla's 60 degree weather quite happily. Our high temperatures all week have been about 40 and our lows every night have been getting down to about 20. emoticon emoticon We haven't had any more rain, but the frost has been really tough to scrape off my windshield before work the last couple of days.

I've been having serious motivational issues this week. I've only got 4 people to send Christmas presents to this year...and I haven't been able to make myself wrap the presents I've gotten for them and box them up to mail them. I'm going to try really hard to get the wrapping done this weekend and then mail them on Monday. They have to go to Tucson and Ohio. The ones going to Tucson will easily make it there in time, but because I've procrastinated so badly I'm going to have to pay premium prices to mail the gifts to Ohio if I want them to get there by Christmas. I'd done so well with getting all of this done earlier for several years, but this year I just haven't been able to find the motivation. On the upside, even though it's going to cost me more I do recall from years gone by when I was also not motivated that if you go to the post office during the last week before Christmas there's generally not much of a line...because everyone else was smarter than you and got it done weeks ago. emoticon

I'm getting the last in this series of knee tortures on Monday...and the relief I'm getting had better last a good long while because I am NOT looking forward to more of these shots anytime soon. emoticon That's been a part of my bad week. My knee was partially incapacitated until yesterday afteroon...and I got that darn shot on Monday! I'm expecting Monday's shot to be pretty bad, just based on how much pain I had from this week's shot, but at least I won't have to do this again for at least 6 months. (I'd really like to know who came up with the idea of treating pain with MORE PAIN so that I could smack him upside the head...)

The other big part of my bad week has been that I've been trying to come down with a cold all week long...and as of last night I've officially got it. emoticon I have a lot of stupid little health problems, but I'm hardly ever actually sick...and when I am, I HATE it. Hopefully if I get a lot of rest this weekend I'll be able to get over it. Linda, I hope that you're over whatever you picked up soon. Was today your last radiation treatment? I really hope that you're feeling a lot better soon.

Gail, I really feel for Vic because I've had major dental work done in recent years. Bone grafts, dental implants, teeth extracted, you name it. I had to take antibiotics before all of my surgeries and I know that people with certain conditions (like bleeding disorders) have to take antibiotics before they can safely have even a dental cleaning. Is Vic's immune system too weak to have the dental work even after taking antibiotics? I just feel really bad for him apparently having so much dental trouble right now. I did the soft food diet several times during my dental drama...and I did NOT enjoy it...

Darla, did you ever get your check while I was out of touch. (I just don't have the energy to go back through all of the messages since the last time I was online...) I really hope so, goodness knows you've waited long enough. emoticon

Well I've babbled on long enough. I think I'm going to go take a really hot bath (and hope that it opens up my sinuses a bit) and then get myself into bed. (It's okay to go to bed at 8:00 on a Friday night when you're feeling icky.) I hope that all of you have a really great weekend.

There was much rejoicing!

At this school (and most other language/business schools) we get certain holidays off, but no pay. It's worse if the school has mostly foreign students with visas: the teachers get few, if any, days off because the school has to stay open to comply with the visa requirements. I'm at a business school right now.
I have a 24-hour supermarket nearby, but everything else closes.
The nearest train is below street level but not covered on top (the tracks are not in a tunnel like most areas of the subway), so it easily fills up with rain or snow -- it was a big mess during the blizzard last year.
The train I take to work (about a mile away -- I walk) is high above ground, but freezes during really bad spells.
NYC is no longer prepared for inclement weather -- it's not like when I was a kid here.

Kurt, do you get some time off for Christmas? Do you shop close to where you live or do you have to take a bus/train? I was wondering how much the weather affected you. I know that I don't intend to get out on the roads when it gets icy.

I just talked to a ldy i haven't seen in 30 years. Her & her husband were best friends with my ex-husband & me at that time. They broke up within the year after we did. It was funny how we just seemed to pick up like the uears had never been. I'd always liked her more that I did him. He was mean to her but she said she'd changed & stood up for her self now.

Got to get ready to leave for some errands. Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Hello Friends,
It is in the 60's here and rainy and cloudy. I can't believe it is this nice here at Christmas time!
Pat- So sorry you and your husband have to go through all of those treatments. I will keep both of you in my prayers. Make sure you take some time for yourself!

Chris and Caitlin have all their Christmas shopping done and the tree is up and the apt rails and patio have Christmas lights! Erin got her Christmas check yesterday so she is buying gifts online. She has so much taken out of her check and at the end of the year gets all of it back for Christmas! I leave in 5 days on Dec. 21! I am so excited! Chris and Caitlin will be going to her mom's for Christmas so we will all have a great Christmas this year! What are your plans for Christmas with your families???? Hope everyone has a good day!

Hi, sounds like everyone is busy and battling all kinds of little hiccups in this thing called life, but we all sound positive and that is the important thing. Today was our final meeting at the cancer center-we now have the radiation appointments scheduled and they did a mock run today and actual treatment starts Mon. Not looking forward to 43 trips there, but friends have offered to help out and drive DH since he doesn't drive so that will give me a break if one occasionally takes him for me.
I even made it to the pool this afternoon after we got home-had a 90 min workout in there and an hour early this morning so that feels good.

I am in one of the computer rooms at school now.

My afternoon class is doing vocabulary research -- their level is about 7th or 8th Grade after studying for six months.
They're a big contrast to the evening class who, after six months, are having major trouble with things like "What time is it?"

It looks like the cold weather is on its way. It was chilly at noon.
I was really surprised to read that we've been having warmer weather than New Mexico and some other places. That's usually not the case.

Hello Friends,
Oh I am so sorry to hear that Linda! I hope you can get some medicine and feel better soon. You are really going through a lot and you are in my prayers too!

Gail- I do feel reallly good right now and none of us are sick. We are all just looking foward to Christmas! I leave in 6 days to go to Arizona! I am so excited. Caitlin's cousin will be coming in after I leave and staying here and riding back to Amarillo with them for Christmas with her family! Erin is buying me some warm shirts. I only have a few clothes that I could pack in my suitcase and got rid of the rest of them so I need some warm shirts for the winter. We will be spending Christmas Eve close to Flagstaff New Mexico for the train ride and it will be really cold for all 3 of us! So I am taking my coat and sweater. It is 3 hours drive from Erin's house to where the train is and the ride is one hour and then 3 hours back! But it will be so much fun especially for Maddie who is 4 years old! She has always loved trains and she will be so excited riding a real one! It will be my first time to ride one too! I usually fly everywhere I go but don't get to go many places just mainly to Arizona to see Erin. She may go back to one her boyfriends and if they get married she may live in Texas so at least she would be closer to us!
Hope everyone has a good day!

Hi team.
I haven't felt good all week. Yesterday, the radiation people told me that my symptoms are unrelated to the radiation. So I called my doctor on my cell as soon as we left RAD. I have an appointment this morning. It is now becoming apparent that I likely have an ear infection.

I will be so glad when 2012 gets here.

Hello Friends,
I called the SS office today and just left a message for her so hopefully she will call me back. Still no check in today. Gail I am finding pretty much all I need here. I have already found my new Doctor and I go through a Oupatient Mental Health Clinic for all my mental health needs and I found a Christain Dental Care that goes by your income and they do some of the work free and you just give a donation. So I was glad to find that. I have a tooth that needs to be pulled. Plus I need all you had done the cleaning and X rays. So I was happy to find that and found a Supercuts here to cut my hair for just $12.95! I want to get it done before I go to Arizona.

Today is Christpher Plummers Birthday and he is 82. I love the Sound of Music and watched all of them on Oprah and just laughed at the stories they were telling about it. He was drunk through most of it! lol And the beginning the helocotor kept knocking Julie Andrews down so it took them several tries to get it! And the youngest girl could not swim so she almost drowned before they could get to her when they fell out of the boat! lol It was really funny to watch!

Hope everyone has a good day!

We live in Union, Missouri. Approx 35 miles SW of St. Louis, Mo. Funny thing is we're about the same distance from another small town but this is the address we were given. We're more in the country.

I used to live in the suboards of St. Louis & took the bus once in a while. I can't remeber the times I got lost but people were nice about giving me directions. Being young it didn't bother me like I think it would now.

It's been raining but isn't now & is supposed to get to 60 later on today. It's 49 right now.

Hope to do some more quilting before going to the auction.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Good Morning:

Sometimes it doesn't pay to be cheap. I bought some generic benedryl and wanted to use that up before I tried anything else for my sinus problem. Yesterday, when I took Vic in for his weekly blood test, I stopped at the hospital's outpatient pharmacy and picked up a few things, one of which the allergist suggested, a generic of zyrtec. My jaw dropped when I saw the price: $22.67 for 100 pills. The pharmacist gave me a 20% discount...the discount given to hospital employees. (She knew I wasn't an employee, but I mentioned my daughter was so she extended the courtesy.) Anyway, I took one yesterday afternoon, just before I left the house for my 6 month dental cleaning. I was feeling really crummy. By the time I got in the dentist's chair I was starting to feel better. The raw feeling in my sinuses, throat and ears is gone. I feel so much better and got a good night's sleep. I was a bit stuffed up this morning but after walking around for a while even that's gone now. In this case, the most expensive option was worth every penny. The other good news about it is that I only take one every 24 hours, so the bottle lasts for 100 days.

Hope you are all doing well,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hello Friends.
Gail- So Sorry you and Vic had such a hard day. I just feel so sorry for both of you having to go through so much. I do keep both of you in my prayers! '
I use to live in Norman Oklahoma which is just 17 miles from Oklahoma City and I did love Norma and it was so easy to get around there. Now I live in San Antonio Texas and just have no idea how I will ever figure out how to get places! But it will be a long time before I can save enough money to buy another car and will be riding the bus everywhere. I even dread doing that but the bus system has online site that you can just put in where you are going and it will tell you which buses to take and where. I just hate being home every day when I am use to getting out and doing something! I have not got my disabilty check yet and most of it has to go to getting my medicare reinstated. I tried to call the woman I talked to today but did not reach her so I will try tomorrow. Well I hope everyone has a good day!

Good Morning:
I'm still battling the chronic sinus infection, and though it's not as bad as it was originally, it's still far from good and it's getting OLD.

Yesterday was a difficult day. For several weeks at least, Vic's lower front have gotten looser and he has been eating "soft" food to avoid putting pressure on them. Yesterday he went for a perio appointment and the dentist said there has been a dramatic decline in the past three months. Tomorrow he goes to the dentist to have his teeth bonded. It's the most conservative solution and is certainly the best for now given his leukemia. I don't know if or when he would be able to have them removed and have a bridge put in; it all depends on his blood. He is so susceptible to infection. The poor guy is going through so much and is experiencing the ravages of aging in tandem with the leukemia. That dental cleaning yesterday was brutal for him, so brutal that he's taken ibuprofen yesterday and today. What next? Today we go in for his blood test...another long day.

I'm springing for Chinese soup today. Vic likes it a lot and liquids or semi liquids (yogurt, mashed banana, egg salad) is the only thing he will eat till his teeth get bonded. Actually, it's not too expensive. A quart of egg drop soup is $2.70. I'm treating myself to hot and sour soup, $3.70 a quart.

Enjoy every precious day.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I am in Northern Indiana. Less than 2 hours from Ohio and a little farther to Michigan.
The closest city of any size & that anybody would have heard of is Fort Wayne.
We are about 4 hours from Chicago. We do have a 4 lane highway just a few miles away that runs east and west. So getting to larger communities isn't too bad. That highway intersects with another that goes to Indy - but we seldom go there except to the air port.

We live in a rather depressed area. Farming is the best business to be in. Some factory closings in recent years. New factories and businesses pay more than a third less than the places that closed. I heard that in California the minimum wage is now over $10 an hour. Here, that is good pay in the newer factories & for a job available without a college degree. Even college grads don't necessarily make any more.

I had a miserable evening last night. This is suppose to me my most difficult week with the radiation. My doctor told me that the week after radiation is over, I will continue to feel worse, then should start feeling better the week following. So, that will be a Christmas present.

We didn't get home until after five p.m. I had just laid down to rest, & my youngest daughter called. Don't recall if I shared this. She is pregnant. We are a little anxious about this as she has had miscarriages. She can't get into even the nurse practitioner until after Christmas.

DH was on the computer while DD and I talked. He came in the bedroom right after I hung up, & I was telling him about our conversation when the phone range. The caller was responding to an email inquiry he had made 5" before & not had time to tell me about. We have been talking about getting a small dog. He had found one he was interested in. The lady who called is a rescue foster parent. [are they parents?] She says she is to come to our home with the dog - not us go to her. She could come any afternoon this week, but of course we are gone. so, we made an appointment with her on Sunday afternoon.

I know that it is suppose to be part Maltese & maybe part Yorkie. I am kind of excited. As an adult, we have never had much luck with dogs. Another one of our daughters has a similar dog that we dog sat recently. We really enjoyed having it, and I didn't seem to be allergic to it.
From what I have read, it is important to bathe them to prevent allergies. 15 years ago, I tested allergic to dogs. I had some bad problems with any dog at the time. But in recent years, if the dog is clean, I don't seem to have problems. Maltese are an allergy friendly breed.

I remember having a knee injury ten years ago. Getting in and out of a care was the worst thing I had to do. We have had a grab bar next to our toilet ever since.

Gail, I'm in Albuquerque, New Mexico...where it hardly ever gets this cold. We're a little bit warmer today, though "warm" is a relative term. We got up to 34 degrees today and then had very cold rain all afternoon. Depending on where you look online, we aren't suppsed to get much colder than this tonight but I'm not looking foward to a nice drive to work in the morning. emoticon

Linda, emoticon for the upcoming end to your radiation treatments. I hope you're really going to be done with them for good. (Fingers crossed)

This afternoon I got my second hyaluronic acid shot in my left knee. The first one didn't hurt at all, in fact I didn't even feel it. This one hurt a little and it really hurt to bend my knee at all for at least an hour afterward. After the shot I went to use the rest room before driving home..and it probably took me about 2 minutes just to sit down on the pot because bending my knee hurt so much. Getting into and out of the car was quite an experience, too, but that whole problem has gotten a lot better in the 3 hours since I got the shot. I've been icing my knee, which is helping but also making me cold. I've got to get to bed soon...and I think tonight is an electric blanket night...

So that's all the news from my little corner of the desert for right now. I hope you all have a marvelous Monday.

There was much rejoicing!

We took a trash bag of shoes we no longer wanted/needed to the church yeterday. There's a man who takes them to Africa, sells them and then uses the money to drill new wells for the villiages so they can have clean water. If this keeps up we should have a really neat, ordered house!

It's in the low 30's & Bill's burning the big brush pile. It's almost burnt down & the winds beginning to come up so he won't try burning the smaller one out side the fence. Also won't ge the pamas grass cut down. I'm trying to finish the quilt for my DD. Just feel tired. I'm hoping that the test on the 23 (chenical stress test) will show something that they can fix.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

I know quite a few people with MS. My cousin's wife, my beautician, and 3 friends. They would all say pacing themselves and resting when their body calls for sleep is important. One of them is having a lot of trouble with one knee. I guess the MS complicates that. I wonder if you & my friend are having similar experiences. Hope your treatment is helpful.

Pat
You sound so organized. I know you have to be.

emoticon Our snow receded yesterday. Just a little left here and there. The temp is in the low 20s. This is my last week of radiation. I have been warned that it will be the most difficult. At the moment, my main side effect is exhaustion. I am not sleeping very good, because of my bursitis. But I do get naps in. I still don't have a Christmas decoration on the door. I hate to ask DH to do it all. And my house needs some serious cleaning & straightening.

Hi Everyone, I have been MIA trying to get things done around here before DH starts radiation. Just one more week and then we can count the days till it is done. I have finished decorating the park, just did a little bit at home after all that, have been working on my Christmas cards, got dad's done over a wk ago, tomorrow and Tues my best friend and I are going to bake cookies and Tues our hubbies will give them out early as I don't awnt them hanging around here.
I am getting up early to go to the gym so I have my days free for everything else!!! Wed we are going to stage a protest about what the officials are doing to our water levels-they are not allowing any water into our lake and the last time they did this in 1999, it killed the gators and fish so hoping a large turnout will sway them to continue to let water flow into our lake-we are last on a chain of lakes.
Hope everyone else is on the mend and hanging in there thru the holiday madness.

I had plans for this weekend, plans to actually get a few things done. But I managed to get so darn tired by the end of the work week that the biggest thing I've done this weekend is get a lot of sleep, and I'm okay with that. My MS doesn't do terribly well when I don't get enough sleep and I figure it's better for me to get enough rest to be able to cope with my new work week than it is for me to get a lot of stuff done on the weekend. I'll probably get all of that stuff done on Tuesday and Wednesday anyway...

Tomorrow after work I'll be getting my second hyaluronic acid shot in my left knee. The first one helped quite a bit and I've felt a lot less grinding going on in my knee since I got the shot on Monday. But the "usual" pain in that knee was back last night, felt it when I woke up in the middle of the night. My doctor said that I won't get the full effect of the shots until after I get the third one, which will be next Monday, so I'm really looking forward to that. Arthritis really stinks and this knee pain I've been having is just fot the birds.

I hope the rest of you have had a really great weekend. Linda (and everyone else), you can keep all of your snow, I'm really not particularly jealous not to have had much of it so far this winter. It just makes driving much more unpleasant because only about 5 people in New Mexico know how to drive in it...and I don't have a high degree of certainty that the other 4 will be on the road when I am. emoticon emoticon This is the one time of the year when I'm happy about driving to work at 5:00 in the morning...when there's hardly anyone else on the road. Everyone have a great start to the new week.

There was much rejoicing!

soup sounds great. Sounds like some fun activities in your area.

emoticon The snow is sticking around here. It was really sunny yesterday, but seems a little cloudy today. I finally quit coughing yesterday - but started in again this morning. I had my freezer so heavily stocked before I had surgery. It is finally working its way down. I am having trouble finding things in our little chest freezer. I know that we still have chicken tenders and turkey meatballs. Plus, we have half of a chuck roast. The rest of it seems to be veggies. I thought I should have some meals in the freezer that just need reheated. I am going to have to dig to see.

Hello Friends,
I made some vegetable soup last night with 2 cans of green beans, corn, blackeyed peas, sweet peas 1lb of hamburger meat and 1 big can of tomatoe sauce. It is really good!Chris and Caitlin went to a White Elephant Party last night and Erin and Maddie went to Glendale Glitters which is a big Christmas Fair in Glendale Arizona. It was so much fun when I went with them one year. I leave Dec, 21 to go out there for 2 weeks!

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

It was 14 this morning & very frosty.

Gail, did they find that woman who stole the kettle? They're finding that people are making better choices & living on less . In fact, most are enjoying making it on less & saving more. Then there's the one's who refuse to give up anything. They feel like they "deserve" everything they want. I don't mine helping those that need a hand, now & then, to help their selves. It's the ones that feel like they don't have to do a thing to help their selves that take exception to. And I have several in my own family. Now the rest of the family has refused to "help" at all & they're called "stingy". But, as one family member put it, they always manage to land on their feet. Needless ti say there are no family get togethers.

Bill's finishing up my bookcases. I want to finish the quilt top before I put that room back in order but hope to before the end of the year. I still have that test on the 23 rd. I hope they can find out what's causing it & can fix it.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Good Morning:

Well, it's sunny and 16 F here this morning. I really don't mind the cold as long as we have sunshine. Normally, it would be much colder this time of year but we haven't has snow yet so it's a bit warmer. My husband says, "Every day it doesn't snow is KCHING". (Money in the bank because heating bills aren't so high.)

Sixty: I know what you mean about people living on the fringe, economically. Our town is in pretty good shape by comparison to many others, but things are tough here too. Vic just told me that there were some Salvation Army bell ringers in front of a local supermarket yesterday. They turned their backs for a second and some woman stole the kettle! It's sad because the Salvation Army is one of the best charities I can think of and they do help people. If that woman had gone their and let them know she needs help I'm sure they would have done what they could for her. Our food pantries are working around the clock to get folks food on the table and I'm sure they would have helped her too.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning Frugal Friends
Actually it is still dark out. The shortest day of the year is approaching. The temp got down to 12 overnight. Glad our house has fairly new windows and is well insulated.

I am finally getting over this cold, but still coughing. Coughs usually hang on me for a while. I only have five radiation treatments left. At this point, I am expected to be extremely exhausted, and I most certainly was yesterday. My husband wanted to plan a "celebration" out on the city next Friday - but now we are worried about whether I will have the energy. Plus - food just doesn't taste right to me. I understand that the impaired taste is expected as well. I hope I am regaining my energy and sense of taste by Christmas. I want to bake cookies for the grand kids.

We had fresh horseradish from the CSA farm last summer. I didn't know what to do with it. I think I roasted it.

Kurt, about your comments. I believe there are a lot of people who don't qualify for public assistance who are living below the poverty level - lower than the ones with the assistance. We have a lot of people in their seventies and eighties in our area who are living on the fringe.

Just wanted to say high. I am going to try to eat better today. Yesterday - I ate mostly buttered toast. Not much else tasted good.

No college credit, although this school wants to become a business college.
At present, either The City of NY or The State of New York (or both) provide grants to pay for the students' tuition.
These are students who are supposedly "needy" because of their income, lack of marketable business skills and/or they are immigrants.
However, most of the faculty are more "needy" than the students and could put these grants to better use.

We had spring-like weather today (after freezing rainy days).

I've already had all the bad things thrown at me early in life, so now that those are out of the way, my future should be wonderful.

When my first husband was alive he used to buy little jars of extra hot horseradish. When I was sick and really congested I'd eat a little bit of it and in the process of blowing my head off it would also clear my sinuses quite effectively. Luckily in the intervening years my mother introduced me to the neti pot, which does just about as good a job and isn't nearly as painful.

Kurt, are you teaching classes where the students are earning college credits? I've always been a little bit confused about that and I've been wondering if that's the case because otherwise it doesn't seem like it would matter whether they were counted present or not. (Please forgive me for being slow...)

Linda, Gail and Penny...how are you ladies feeling today? I hope you're all getting over whatever illness you've had going on. I don't appreciate the fact that you may have given it to me...but I can probably forgive you for it if I can get over it by getting plenty of sleep this weekend. (Something I'm not at all good at doing during the week...going to bed at 7:00 just isn't natural...)

Still less than 20 degrees on my drive to work at 4:45 in the morning, but I think today was the 3rd day in a row where the afternoon temperatures got up into the 40s. emoticon I'll take it!

Yesterday I had a very nice visit to my dental surgeon's office. (Can you believe I'm actually saying that a visit to a dentist was nice??) I've had ongoing inflammation of my gums ever since I had numerous dental surgeries a few years ago. Wouldn't go away no matter how faithfully I brushed and flossed. Finally my sugeon put me on some antibiotics that seem to have mostly cleared it up. I don't know if this particular weakness in my immune system has anything to do with my MS, but it's got to go. I spent over a year getting a full mouth rehabilitation and if it goes bad then the next step would be even less pleasant. emoticon Guess that's still a work in progress...

Anyway, I hope that you all have a really great weekend. Stay warm, get plenty of sleep, eat hot soup, relax and have a little fun. emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

Kurt: I've made my own cocktail sauce for years. I just mix white prepared horseradish with ketchup. Thanks for the tip about horseradish clearing the sinuses. Some people eat horseradish with pot roast. I usually have it with gefilte fish, but only once a year at Passover.

I'll be venturing outside today to interview someone for the timebank. If we're up to it perhaps Vic and I will go to a fish fry. They are very popular here in Wisconsin and the restaurants are packed on Friday nights at peak hours.

TGIF...enjoy the weekend.

Gail

Enjoy each day.
