Gail, depending on where you live there may very well be allergies all year round. Things don't generally bloom at this time of the year, but there are trees pollinating all year round (at least around here there are) and if you're allergic to dust and mold then those allergies will only get worse when the weather gets cooler and you spend more time indoors.

Or you could have a cold. I've been fighting one for a couple of weeks. It will be bad for a couple of days and then seem to go away...and then the darn thing is back again just as soon as I get a poor night's sleep, which happens relatively frequently with my goofy work schedule. If your problems go on for much longer it might be a good idea to see a doctor and find out whether you've been blessed with new allergies or have an illness that needs to be treated. (Yeah, I know...I hate going to the doctor, too...)

There was much rejoicing!

Hello Everyone,
Thank you all so much for your comments about Damika. It was hard to put her to sleep but the dogs really hurt her bad and I just could not watch her suffer anymore. I don't think she would have even made it throught the night at all. She was 9 years old and I had rescued her for the oklahoma City Animal Shelter when she was 10 weeks old because they kill them there and was ready to have her live in the humane society but she was so scared of other people and pets that should would never have been comfortable there either. The first shot took all her pain away so she went in peace. We left before the vet came out and they had me watch a funny movie called Zookeeper and I threw away all of her stuff yesterday. It was too depressing to have it all in the room. I had her the longest and she was the sweetest cat i had. She would sleep with me every night and do everything that I did! thank you for the condolences! Darla

emoticon I'm on a liquid diet until 5 pm & then I have to drink half a container of COLYTE (in 1 1/2 hours) & take 4 pills. Then get up & finish the COLYTE no lateer than 4 am. Doesn't make since as i don't have to report there until 10:45 am as the tests not until 11:45 am. I'm praying that it doesn't come back where I have to have any more surgery. My DD just called & said my S-I-L was just put on Hospice care & they don't expect him to make it beyond Thanksgiving. He just turned 49. The cancer has really spread. They lost his father, in July, from the same thing.

It's in the 60's but the winds hitting gusts of 50 MPH. The leaves are really flying off the trees. The sweet gym was here when we bought the place. I'ts in the middle of the yard & would have been better to the edge because of the gym balls falling.

Sorry to hear about your cat, Darla.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Good Morning:

Well, I'm OK but not really well. I think I'll go to the doctor's this week and see if I am suffering from allergies or have some sort of bug. This has been going on for weeks now and we have dipped into the low 30s so if allergies they should have gone, no?

Someone mentioned Christmas is around the corner. I used to make gift baskets with home-made goodies for close friends and neighbors. As time went on I'd add some store bought things like fruit and cookies. Last year I bought almost everything that went into the baskets. But I will not bother with prepared gift baskets. They are VERY expensive and you get very little to show for it. I'm going to keep my eyes opened for sales on crackers, wine, fancy cookies, etc. to put in the baskets from now till Christmas. Also, if I cannot find large baskets at a reasonable price I'll just use very large (shopping bag size) gift bags. What do you do? One new thing I'm thinking of is buying an assortment of nuts and dried fruit to make a trail mix. Have any of you ever done something like that?

Hoping you are all enjoying the weekend.

Gail

Darla: So sorry about you cat, Damika. I understand how you can be so attached; Val is right, pets are like family members.

Penny: I hope you'll try to rest today and not think too much about tomorrow. You are in my prayers.

Pat: What is a community sale? Is that where a whole bunch of families have a garage or yard sale at the same time?

Enjoy each day.

DH used the mower to clean up leaves yesterday. If he gets them before there are very many, we don't need to rake. But after a hard frost, they will all come down at once if there is any wind.

Darla I am so sorry to hear about Damika. They are a part of our family and it is hard to lose them but it is good to know she isn't in pain.
We had a good day-went to a community sale early and then came home and this afternoon got a much needed nap.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday.

I'm so sorry to hear about Damika. Our pets are a part of our family and losing them is as hard as losing a human member of the family in many ways. But I think that you made the right decision because it's just not right to allow an animal to suffer simply because we don't want to lose it. Time really will heal that hurt, but for today it's okay to be sad and to cry for your sweet kitty. emoticon emoticon

Hello Everyone,
Well I am sad today. Damika got out with me not seeing her and both of the big dogs attacked her at the same time and just messed her up so much she could not walk and was just barely alive. I kept watching her all day and she finally pulled herself out from under the coach and could not even hold her head up to drink her water. I had chris come and look at her and just told him I would rather put her to sleep than see her in that kind of pain so we took her to an emergency vet and put her to sleep last night. I cried a lot but they had me watch the movie Zookeeper which was really funny and today Chris and I went to get some pumpkins for their Halloween party tonight. Chris is 5'11 and is going as Buz Lightyear! He won't tell me what Catilin is going to be! Both of my kids put patterns on the pumpkin and make really fancy designs that look so cool! Damika was the best cat I have ever had. She slept with me every night and it was hard to wake up this morning and her not be there. It is hard to lose a pet as much as a human even sometimes. But she is not in pain anymore and in heaven with my Mom so she can take care of her! She took care of Damika for me several times. Just thought I would let all of you know. Darla

Darla - good to hear you found a place that keeps pets until someone adopts them, it is easier to place your pet in a facility like that.

60 - it can be hard to keep up with everything. I am glad to hear you are feeling a little better with the breathing and I hope they can find out what is going on there and give you some more relief.

Penny - we got down to 34 last night, still no frost which I am not going to complain about. I am interested in your sweet gum tree as I was thinking about putting on on the edge of our yard. Now that you posted that it is a bright yellow right now makes it even more tempting.
Good luck with the test on Monday.

May you all have a good Saturday.

emoticon Hard to beleive that Christmas is so close, you know? This year has really slipped by. I'm hoping next year is a lot better health wise anyway.

We had a light frost last night. Trees are really losing the leaves. We have a sweet gum tree on the side of our house. It's bright yellow right now. Bill wants to wait until all the leaves have fell before we rake them. We'll put the leaves around the blackberrys & raspberrys.

Have that test on Monday. I'm praying that they don't find anything that needs surgery.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Hello Everyone,
Laura- I would love to keep Damika but they are looking for a place for me to live here and not sure the place I live will even take pets and I don't have the money for the pet deposit or to really even take care of her anymore.. It is hard for me since I rescued her from the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter where they kill them. This place does not kill them and they keep them and take care of them until someone adopts them. They will be able to give her the shots she needs and take care of her better than I can and at least I won't have to see her die. She is 9 years old now and is starting to have some problems. She needs a good checkup by a vet and blood work done that i just can't afford. I only have about $100 dollars left and Chris and Cailin are having to pay for everything for me. I feel bad enough about them just having to pay for me much less Damika. Chris took some pictures with me and her the other day and I have some cute ones when she was a kittten too! They adopted one of their dogs from there. They have 2 big dogs and they don't' get along with Damika so we are constantly having to keep them apart from each other. So it is just best for her to go there.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Penny, I do know what you mean about so tired of being tired. My dad always talks about not knowing why he feels so tired all of the time also.

Darla, I hope you can figure out a way to keep your cat.

Frosty99, good luck keeping you DH busy keeping his mind off tests for the next 2 weeks.

My master gardener class was all about trees last night and one thing that I have to make sure to do is water all of our older trees and shrubs. The comment was "Don't put your trees to bed over winter dry." Many people lose mature trees just by not watering them in the late fall early winter. I told my husband that this morning and his comment was that he just got done taking in all the water hoses for the year. Now he will have to get them all out unless we get some much needed rain this fall.

Have a good day everyone.

Hello Everyone,
Sorry for all the medical problems everyone is having. I have a lot myself and have to find all new doctors and stuff here. But at least we have the outpatient mental health center first which is the most important. We see a caseworker Nov. 18th and I will have to count my medications to see when I will run out and just hope and pray we see a psychiatriatrist and I don't run out of medications. Chris and I just got the whole 2 bedroom apt cleaned up so Caitlin will be happy when she comes home tonight! I try to help them as much as I can. They are doing great! they are super busy so I just hang out in my room with my cat. We are going to take her to the humane society sometime. I don't want to lose her but not sure I would have the money for a pet deposit on my new place. It is beautiful here with so much green trees and there is a park across the streeet that has deer in it ! Hope everyone has a great day!

emoticon It's rained & still cool this morning. We're supposed to have our 1st heavy frost of our winter. But I'm sure we'll have several good days to get things done in before it gets so bad we can't get out.

I'm trying to get my strength back to where it was last year. I'm so tired of being tired, if that makes since.

It does indeed sound like everyone is busy and best wishes to everyone who is dealing with medical issues.

It turned cold, rainy and windy here. Game 6 of the world series was postponed in St. Louis because of rain so we watched a movie last night instead of watching the Cardinals. I have been trying to get back to doing yoga and have managed to do it 3 times this week. I don't know if I can do it each day, but if I can several times a week that will be a good effort and remind me how much better my body and especially my back feel.

I was hoping to get in on the garage sale in the neighborhood this weekend but will not be ready so I will wait until the spring sale. That gives me the entire winter to continue de-cluttering and pricing and packing in boxes in the garage.

Hope everyone has a good Thursday.

We have had a full day-went to breakfast with our Wednesday group-had 14 today. My brother came down to visit with all of us and he was here when we got back from breakfast. He lives about 2 hrs away and rode down on his Harley. We had a nice visit with him and I took him to Subway to get a sandwich for lunch and this evening he went with us to the bonfire down by the lake and fed him a hot dog before his ride home. He called us a few min ago to say he broke down about 5 mi from home and had been waiting for a towtruck for 2 hrs. Glad he is ok but sorry he had problems.
Tomorrow is the day we get the results of the biopsy-have kept DH busy for the past week and it hasn't been too bad.

Sounds like everyone has been as busy as me this week.

Did some winter cleaning and putting summer items away. Also cleaned out more items out of the house and taking it to charity. Also sold some clothes for cash at store near us that buys old clothes and resale's them. So, made $ 50.00. Not bad for a days work.

I have started on my christmas gifts. I decided to make most of my gifts this year. I am making a liqueur and it takes a month for it to cure.

Hope everyone has a great rest of a week.

Happy Wed everyone,
Gail so sorry you guys had to be at the hospital again. Sounds like you got a great deal on your meal though. Chris and Catilin are having to pay for things for me since I don't have very much money. I did buy me a black pair of jeans and a pretty pink shirt since i don't have very many clothes with me but that is pretty freeing too since i only have a little bit to wash and dry. my apt was a huge mess and I am so glad to be out of it and just save what was the most important things like my pictures, annuals, dvd;s my computer and new printer, and my bed, coach and love seat and a wicker drawers that I got at Pier one and just some sentimental things. I only broguht a little bit with me and just have been reading some of my Joyce Myers books and she is so good! I kept a huge box full of books and my son thought I could just buy them all over again but I could never afford to replace all of them. I donated 3 black trash bags half way full of books to the library. I had more but could not get them all. It is nice ot just have a few things to keep up with now. I feel bad for Chris and Caitlin to pay for things for me since they just got married but Chris said God is providing so i am trying to not worry about it. We have gone out to eat some and everything seems ot be going well. Cailin has learned how to cook very well and l like the meals they make and I cook some for them too. But I am mostly just being a bum all day and doing nothing! lol Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning:

I had filled out a survey the one and only time we went to a local PF Chang some weeks ago. Well, they sent me a $10 gift certificate in the mail. Yesterday was a "short" day at the hospital, only 4+ hours. Still, I was wiped out and didn't feel like fixing anything. I called the restaurant to see if I could use the certificate for take out and they told me I could. On the way home we stopped there and got some soup, a couple of egg rolls and one entree. I was a happy camper. It was just $12 out of pocket and worth every penny. It was plenty for both of us and as a matter of fact there's still soup left over today.

Going for my PT appointment this morning so I must get going.

Enjoy every day and do good things.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

emoticon Good morning!

Went to bed at 8 after we got home from Bible study last night. It was still 81 & the wind was really strong. It's 64 now & supposed to drop to 55 by noon & 34 tonight. Also, around noon, we're supposed to have a thunder storm. We really need it as it's really dry.

We got some things done in the house as it was just too windy to do much out side. The trees sure lost a lot of leaves.

Today we need to run a few errands before we go to the auction. I'm hoping that we can finsihthe trimming & pruning on Thursday. Little by little we're getting things done.

Hope everyone will have a good & safe day! emoticon

Penny-Glad the back is better.
Darla-I hope that things continue to get better for you and it is wonderful to have your son in your corner. Will pray that you can get things under control.
I did some housecleaning this morning, had company about noon and they left about 3. Enjoyed a nice lunch at Olive Garden and then played some board games.
We visited with some neighbors when they left and Abbie had a grand time playing with their shih-tzu puppy-they were so comical.
I am loving this weather-cool mornings and evenings but warm days. Can't get much better than this!

Hello Everyone,
Chris and Caitlin both have laptop computers and so it is hard for me to get on here every day. They had googled and talked to their church about a mental health place to take me that Chris and I met with the counselor yesterday and she was very good and gave me another diagnosis called Histrionic Personality Disorder on top of the Bipolar. Which is why I can't control lmy emotions very well and I can go from being nice and talking to people nice ot being anngry and telling people to screw themselves! lol I am not too much fun to be around sometimes! lol But my kids totoally understand me and that is all that matters! You can google it and read more about it if you want to except for the men part. I am very picky about men! And very faithful to just one man at a time! I coundn't handle more than one at a time!Ihave been so busy raising my kids that i have not had time to date much. Chris was so happy as I was to find this out that he took me out to cebrate by eating bar be que that was sooo good! I am just enjoying being with them every day and finally being close to one of my kids! And it is the reason I talk about the past so much. my Mom step dad and brothers have put me throught a lot. and my ex husbannd. They have never stopped abusing me verbally and a lot of phsical abuse too. You just never really get over being abused like that! Hope everyone has a great day! Darla

Penny, I hope that your back is better today.

I am headed out to the farmers market this morning, then to the recycle center and post office to mail a package to our son. We are supposed to have a very warm and windy day. The wind is blowing in a cold front so I also need to do a few things in the garden that I didn't get done before the last cold spell went through.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Hoping your back is feeling better.
I have had a full day-worked in the flowers today-at dad's, park and home and got a lot done. Ran errands this afternoon and got my haircut so it feels a lot better.
Got a call that a close friend is hospitalized with pneumonia and possibley a heart attack so praying he starts to come out of this. His wife is like a sister to me.
Have a great week.

Stayed up late watching the ballgame so didn't get up till 9 am! That is very unusual, but a cool night and not going to bed till about 1 am made it nice for 8 hrs of sleep. I was really tired after a busy day yesterday so guess my body needed it.
I haven't accomplished a lot today-a couple of loads of laundry and bathed Abbie & Dad. I went to the pool this afternoon, but evidently the heater isn't working since the water was so cold-checked the thermometer and it read 75 and the air temp was 76 so didn't get in there today-just dangled my toes-ha ha. Laid out for about 30 min to soak up some sunshine and came home to watch the Nascar race with DH!
Have a wonderful week.

Gail - I found this recipe on cooks.com. I used to bake with ww flour all the time but we are basically off wheat and gluten now so I don't bake anymore. But here is the recipe:
PIE CRUST (Whole Wheat)
1 c. whole wheat flour
1 c. white flour
1 stick butter
1/4 c. Canola oil
1/4 c. water
1/2 tsp. salt
Cut butter and oil into flour. When it comes to pea sized balls add water and salt. Roll out with rolling pin. Makes upper and bottom crust.

l have not tried this particular recipe so I can't say how it turns out.

Vali_T - The good thing about having a patio with no sun is in the summer it should stay cooler on that side of the apartment. If you aren't in any hurry to move that gives you plenty of time to seek out a place where you can grow things on the balcony or patio.

Penny - Sounds like you and Bill stay real busy this time of year just cleaning up the gardens orchards etc. getting ready for winter.

60 - Sorry to hear about the trouble you are having breathing and I hope they can all get on the same page to find out what is going on with that. We have mowed our leaves in the past years and will probably do that again. We have so many that need to be cleaned up sometimes it is overwhelming. Last year we just dumped the last of them onto a pile next to the compost pile and over the year they have mostly turned into leaf litter that next spring we can use on the gardens. They just get overwhelming sometimes.

As for here we are just doing odds and ends here today that we would not normally do other days. We do need to go to our apartments (we have a 6 plex we rent out) and mow the lawn and get some wood from there so my husband can finish some shelving under our shed roof that we built a wall with windows and window boxes to hide the storage area. It really turned out nice and I can't believe we didn't do it years ago. But years ago we didn't have time.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.
Laurie

Good Morning:

It's really nippy out there, 37 degrees. I never went out yesterday and it was probably for the better. I had to take allergy medicine twice. It's lovely now but it's supposed to rain later. We'll see if I venture forth.

I made pie crust using 3/4 C white, 1/2 C wheat and it tasted ok but the consistency was such that it was very crumbly. I think 1/4 C wheat to 1 C white is what I'll try in the future.

Sixty: Check your flour. If there are no mites it probably fine to use.

Enjoy every day.

emoticon Good morning!

60, they told me in Feb, after surgery, that it takes almost a year for your body to get back to normal. I'm hoping that goes for all the ones I've had this year - you know, add them on in for one year? I'm hoping that the test on th 31 st is clear & that I'm none with doctors for a good while!

Yesterday Bill sprayed some brush & posin ivy with that strong mixture & then sprayed some weeds & poison ivy. with that mixture I get posin ivy just being in the area, it seems. While he did that I cleaned out the ahes from where we burned the old wood & used it to make a layer on the worm bed. Then I raked the orchard because I'd read where you're not supposed to leave any thing for the pests to over winter in. Bill helped me scoop it up & we put the wheel barrow full in the geese/duck area where it was washing out. I figure the ducks can get what ever pests there are. There were quite a few little rocks in it so it's shoul take care of the wash out. Bill was trimming/pruning when the chain saw quit on him. So we decided to make that a day. I took a nap when we went inside. We've had some 70's days & 40 night so it's been nice working out side. They say it "might" rain on Tuesday now. They keep changing it.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

It is almost 8 a.m. and it is still dark. I am looking forward to the time change. emoticon Is it 2 weeks or 3 to go? It is in the mid-40s right now, but it made it close to 70 degrees yesterday.

FROSTY emoticon that Thursday brings good news.

COPPERPENNY emoticon Maybe your body just needed rest, but it sounds like something more. I would suggest marking these episodes on the calendar and take it with you to the doctor.

Gail emoticon I would only substitute about a fourth of the flour with the whole wheat as a trial. See how it works on one pie or even just bake a crust by itself to see if it works.
I am worrying about my whole wheat flour. I have had it for a couple years as I haven't done much baking. I know I should have put it in the freezer. If it looks and smells okay, is it okay to use it? ??
Also, I looked at your tomato pie recipe. It sounds really good. But we are now out of tomatoes. It frosted. I roasted a lot earlier this year and have them in the freezer. I think it would take my whole stash. I may have to break down and go to the store to get some hothouse tomatoes.
emoticon

Val emoticon It will be good to be able to not have to rush into finding a place the next time. I have a planter with a grow light that my daughter gave me last Christmas. A little pricey. But, it is time for me to decide to plant it for the winter.
I think it was me that talked about the bedding. I will have to tell my daughter. She is on vacation at the moment. Her problem: They bought a new mattress for Christmas. It is so thick that the old sheets won't stay on the bed. I think she will have to spend more to get the "deep pockets" but Overstock.com might be the answer. Our little neighborhood grocery had sheets the last time I was there. I had to laugh, because they only have room for two brands of peanutbutter.

Laurie emoticon We have a lawn mower that can mulch the leaves. It is optional whether to use a bagger with it. Depends on how many leaves as to what we do.

Tammy emoticon Glad you found your way back. I think if you don't at least look at the posts when you get the notice, they stop sending them. Other times, there might be a glitch in the system.

GOODHAPPENS1 emoticon I just took a peak at your spark page. You are right. It is NEVER TOO LATE.

emoticon About my health. Haven't started actual radiation yet. I have an appointment on Monday to have "mapping" done. I guess I will be getting my first tattoo.
I have been having breathing difficulty. I just was tested for blood clots with a CT scan. That came back all clear. My family doctor is stumped. He wants to send my for pulmonary function tests - but hates to rush into it as this just came up since my surgery. I have never smoked. But have had pneumonia several times in the past. My docs are going to have to get their heads together to figure out what the priorities are. I am staying in today and just trying to rest to see if that will help.

emoticon Have a great day.

It was down to 47 which is about 15 degrees cooler than normal for us this time of the year but it warmed up nicely to 74 today-actually I am loving it after our hot summer. We were out early to go to some community sales so had to wear a sweatshirt but later in the afternoon it was t-shirt time while we went to a football game with friends-their granddaughter is a cheerleader. Had a full day but it was good-the busier I can keep DH, the less time he has to worry!!! He is doing quite well so praying for good news on Thur.

emoticon Good morning!

It got down to 34 last night & supposed to get in the high 60's today. I'm hoping that we can get a lot done in the yard today. I keep hearing that winter will be early , very cold & lots of snow. Winter isn't my favorite time of year anyway & this will make it worse.

We went to the auction last night & they really didn't have much anyone wanted. Several people didn't show up. As the evening went along, I got to feeling weaker & weaker so we came home. I was in bed by 8:30 but woke up at 5 this morning feeling a lot better. I do that sometime & never have found out out why it happens.

Hope everyone is feeling better and has a good & safe day! emoticon

Good Morning:

My allergies are winding down with the cooler weather,(it's 36 right now) but I'm still taking one dose of Benedryl a day, usually in the late afternoon. I would like to get out there and rake but.....

Question: I have some whole wheat flour around and only use it when I make bread. But I was wondering if any of you have used some whole wheat flour in your pie crusts. If so, I'd appreciate a good recipe and would like to know if you use it for fruit pies, quiche or both.

Thinking of you all.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Laurie, I have a little bit of a porch outside my apartment, but it never gets any sun at all. Oh well, maybe that can be one of my criteria the next time I move. (The main one is that my next place must have real honest to goodness air conditioning and not one of these worthless evaporative "coolers" that every other apartment I've eve lived in has had.) My old apartment had a balcony that I could grow a few things on, but this one is downstairs and my "porch" is under someone else's balcony, thus the total lack of sunlight.

There was much rejoicing!

I've gotten sheets from OVERSTOCK.COM and they were great. I've also gotten books from them as they're cheaper than Amazon.

60, hope you're doing OK. You're in my prayers.

Yesterday I went thru the books/magazines in the library. Have a big box (it took both of us to put it in the back of the truck) to a lady at the auction tonight & 2 bags to take to the book store. While I was doing that I did the wash. This morning I hung the hanger stuff on eht back porch & the other stuff on the clothes lines. It got down to 34 last night & will be 61 today. Rain's not expected until after Monday. What we got really helped. The trees are really loosing theri leaves. Not as much color this year.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Penny - my husband is the same way, wait until all the leaves fall and then clean them up. I would like to check into a leave shredder to use or buy if they aren't too expensive so I can use the leaves for mulch, ground cover etc. We do use whole leaves to put around areas that we want to keep weeds from coming up and it works real well.

Vali_t - I love Overstock! I have gotten a lot of my sheet from there. As far as having a yard to grow a garden, do you have any outdoor space? There are people doing urban gardening all over and growing veggies in pots on decks and patios etc.

The tomato pie sounds really good!

I had stopped getting these posts; it may have been because I was away for awhile, but I enjoyed reading the last dozen or so.

The sheet discussion reminded me that I need to replace some; the soup discussion reminded me that I need to make some more and get some in the freezer!

Have a good day, everyone!

Hi All:

Well I made the tomato pie:

1)1 pie shell. Bake for 10 minutes at 425.

2)Peel some ripe tomatoes and slice. Fill up pre-baked pie shell.

3)Mix some shredded cheese (cheddar or jack work well and give it some zip) with a few of tablespoons of mayo to moisten. (Less mayo if you're making a small pie.)

4)Spread top of pie with shredded cheese mixture.

Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes or until cheese melts.

Enjoy.

Enjoy each day.

I waited 3 year's after my first husband's death to get married again, but I suppose I really should have waited longer before I got involved with my second husband because I may still not really be done with the first grieving process. A dear friend of mine wants me to find another companion so that I won't be alone as I get to be her age (she's in her 60's) but I really want to take my time and get comfortable in my own skin again before I even start looking around.

Someone mentioned the high cost of bedding and that her daughter was looking for a way to get it cheaper. Try overstock.com. That's not one of the things I've ever bought from them but they have really good prices on a lot of things. I got my two sheet sets at the grocery, of all places. They were selling sheet sets (by I can't remember who) for $20 for all sizes. So I got one for my queen size bed and one for the twin bed that my ex slept on when I had to work the next day. (For some strange reason he didn't like waking up at 3:00 in the morning with me...) Turns out that the sheets are wonderfully soft and comfy...even Little Very Bad Girl Kitty just loves them. emoticon When I was trying to put them on my bed she just kept wanting to roll around on them. It was really cute. emoticon

60, how have you been feeling? Have you started the radiation treatments yet? I hope that everything is going well for you.

Well I wish that I had a yard so that I could have a garden and grow my own veggies the way some of you do. (In particular, I'm just lusting after your tomatoes and bell peppers...) In a little while I'm going to use the wonderful chicken stock I made a few weeks ago to make a big pot of chicken soup...and the veggies I bought for it were darned expensive. emoticon Oh well, as long as the soup comes out well in the end, it will be worth it. Have a great day everyone.

There was much rejoicing!

Gosh, you're all so busy!

I was told it took at least 3 years to get over a divorce/death. I got my divorce in 1982 & remarried in 1987. But dated a lot of mistakes in-between. Funny thing was, the men were the ones wanting to be serious. As I still had 2 kids at home their father was still a part of my life. And I didn't want to up set them anymore than they were. Their father re-married a few months after we divorced & it really up set them. Anyway, Val, enjoy this time getting to know yourself. Do the things you wanted to do & he didn't want to so you didn't.

It's really windy, damp & cool this morning. There's supposed to frost tomorrow night. We need to do some more trimming but not with the wind like it is. Next week it's supposed to be in the 70's. Bill says to leave the leaves until they all come down. The we'll rake them up & put them in the blackberry & rashberry beds. We might not have gotten everything we wanted done this year but we've really made a dent. Pretty good for sll the sicknees we've had. The ragweed is really bad this year.

Hope everyone has a good & safe day! emoticon

Sixty - I picked a few peppers last night before going to bed as they said it may freeze (it did not) I covered some other pepper plants as they will turn red if we can hold onto the nice weather a bit longer. We were also out there covering up tomato plants that are still ripening. I think the next time it is supposed to freeze I will just pick everything and let tomatoes ripen in the house.

Gail - Glad to hear you allergies did not bother you the other day and enjoy your new hair style and for $20 that is a good deal. My husband and I have an electrical contracting business that we run from our home and property. It saves us money but the business is always right here all the time and when people know you have it in your home they think they can call any time, day, night, and weekend. We have learned to just not answer the phone when we want and need some time away from it all.

Have a good day everyone.

Good Morning Frugal Friends emoticon

I was looking at the long list of recipes that I had entered here over the past 3 years. I think I need to try some again. Some I entered to figure out the calorie count and then didn't cook them. Today, I think I will make Apple Crisp if I have the right kind of oat meal on hand.

I saw Val mention bedding.
My daughter wants to buy a set and thinks they are priced outrageous. Does she really need to wait until January to get a decent price?

I am going to have to check the yard to see what needs done. Leaves are still coming down. We still have bell peppers growing. I may have to go ahead and pick them. I love it that they don't have to be blanched before freezing. These would all turn red if they had time to ripen.

Gail, tomato pie sounds yummy. Can you post a recipe for it? I'd really love to try making it.

Today I went and got my hair cut, so now I'm reasonably attractive again and nobody will recognize me when I go back to work next week. (Well okay...it wasn't really that drastic a change but I'm still very happy with it.) Then I went to Wal Mart and to the grocery. I got the things I needed to make a batch of meatloaf in my crock pot this weekend and the remainder of the things I needed to make chicken soup tomorrow. I made a bunch of chicken stock a couple of weeks ago after I cooked two whole chickens and now it's time to make me some soup. (I don't cook much, but soup is something I'm really good at and the weather for hot soup is fiiiiiinally here. emoticon )

So right now I have chicken stock thawing in the fridge and tomorrow morning (or maybe early afternoon) I'm going to cut up some veggies and start some soup cooking. If I get it done early enough I'll take some to the hospital to give to my pregnant coworker who can hardly keep anything down and has actually lost weight since she got pregnant. emoticon I told her that I would take soup for her next week (when she'll be the one who's off work) but I'd really love to be able to take it tomorrow. (She usually does not work on Fridays.) I told her that if it makes her barf she can just stick it back in the freezer and I'll eat it next week when I go back to work.

When I was at Wal Mart today I got another 25 pound box of cat litter...and when I got home I realized that both boxes are the WRONG KIND of litter. emoticon I hate that clumping crap because it creates a lot of dust and it's fine enough to really work its way into the darn carpet but oh well...I bought it and we're going to use it. If the girls don't end up liking it then they'll really appreciate me when I give them the good stuff again. emoticon

It's been cooler and really windy for the last couple of days...winter may actually be on its way. Hopefully we won't have any extra cold weeks where the temperatures freeze the pipes in our laundry rooms and I come home to find water pouring into my bedroom closet this year, but it is nice to finally have the temperatures coming down and summer over. Yesterday someone even came and switched me over from my cooler to my heater. Yep, winter really is on its way. emoticon emoticon (Yeah, I'm skipping right by Halloween because I don't celebrate it anymore.)

I hope that the rest of the week is really good for everyone...and no more hurting yourselves will be allowed!

There was much rejoicing!

Good Morning:

I have several tomatoes ripening at the same time so I'm thinking of making a tomato pie. If not today perhaps tomorrow or Friday. I'm taking it easy today after the accident I had yesterday. (It's all described in my blog.)

Though yesterday was a long day and we were outdoors for a while, my allergies didn't act up much. Today again it is cooler and I'm OK. It's probably best I don't go out because it is quite windy, but that's fine. I'll enjoy myself a lot just staying in.

Hope you all enjoy the day too.

Gail

Pat: I'm soaking my beans for bean soup. Thanks again for the recipe.

Val: You sound like you're having a blast getting new things and playing with kitty.

Laurie: What kind of business do you have?

Enjoy each day.

Gail - I enjoyed the email that you posted very much. Thanks for sharing.

Today I need to get back outside and continue working on the cleaning out the garden and covering anything that I want to save for another week or two. We covered up a lot of things last night and it only got down to 39 but tonight it will be cooler. I will hate to see the flowers freeze since I have been enjoying their beauty all spring, summer and fall but they are only doing what they are supposed to do. This morning I have to get work done here in the office. My husband just handed me some bills to get out and I have to get payroll done for the employees. My day is full already but such is life.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Today I went to Sears to buy a mattress pad and a comforter for the bed that used to be my ex husband's. I had already gotten a very nice sheet set that was pretty inexpensive so I just needed the pad and the comforter. Sears had a gorgeous one that would have gone very nicely with the color of the sheets I bought...but it was a set and they were selling it for $159! Well for that kind of money I want it to be encrusted with diamonds and get up to do an Elvis style musical show for me! So I settled for something much less expensive and when I came home I set up the bed so that the next time I have a visitor I'll actually have someplace for that person to sleep. emoticon

Little Very Bad Girl Kitty really loves the new sheets. They're very soft and apparently she finds them to be quite comfortable because when I was putting the queen size set on my bed she kept rolling around on them...until I kicked her off so that I could finish putting them on my bed. She did that with the spare bed, too. It was really, really cute. She's adorable to begin with, and watching her have such a nice time rolling around on the sheets was really fun. I've got two extra pillow cases for each bed...maybe I'll have to set her up a little bed where she can roll around on the pillow cases to her cute little heart's content...

So that was about it for me today. Tomorrow I'm going to get my hair cut and then I'll go to the grocery to get ground beef to make meatloaf and vegetables to use with the chicken stock I made recently. (I'm all out of frozen meals so I need to replenish my stock in my tiny little freezer.)

There was much rejoicing!

Good for you Val, it sounds like you are moving on but taking your time. I know anymore people aren't out of one relationship before they are in another, but I think there would be a lot less relationship trouble if they took a little time and analyzed what went wrong so they would not repeat the same mistake! I think a divorce should be treated like a death and one should give themselves a year to learn who they are and what they really want in life and not rush headlong into something, but I doubt that many will heed that advice as it seems no one wants to be alone anymore.
Gail I am going to send you one of my soup recipes-it is yummy but not always the best for one-just eat a small quantity!
We were waiting for the storm that the weathermen kept hyping all evening and this morning, but it never arrived! I don't even know if we are even going to get any rain out of the cold front coming down.
We went to a late lunch with friends. They had been to the dr this morning but didn't get out till about 12:45 so as he is diabetic, they needed to get him something to eat so we went to Sweet Tomato. It was yummy, had a good salad and a small ladle of broccoli soup.

Good Evening:

It was a long day (6 hours) at the hospital today as Vic went for his weekly blood test. He needed a transfusion and that's what took up the bulk of the time.

The cool weather has set in and it's soup time. Anyone have a particularly good recipe for bean soup? I've got mine but am always up to try something new.

Just got a very sweet email from a friend. Here it is; I thought you all might enjoy it.

Gail

----------------------------------------
--------------------------------------

Child's View of Thunderstorms

A little girl walked to and from school daily. Though the weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trek to school. As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up, along with lightning.

The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school. She also feared the electrical storm might harm her child. Full of concern, the mother got into her car and quickly drove along the route to her child's school. As she did, she saw her little girl walking along.

At each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up, and smile. More lightning followed quickly and with each, the little girl would look at the streak of light and smile

When the mother drew up beside the child, she lowered the window and called, "What are you doing?"

The child answered, "I am trying to look pretty because God keeps taking my picture."

May God bless you today and every day as you face the storms that come your way!

Enjoy each day.

Val all will be well as you adjust and find out who you are in this time of life. I could feel the excitement of having a place for your mom to sleep and having company in YOUR place. You have a good attitude and will do well. There may be times when you look back and feel a bit sad, but this too will pass.

Gail - It is nice to have the garden but also nice when it is all put to bed for the winter too. Allows us the time to think about next year and what we will put into it!!

Good Morning:

Well, we signed the contract to have the painters come and do the trim and the windows and I'm glad that's behind us. They will come in about 2 weeks.

I should go to the store for some groceries, but I'm so afraid of going out, even for a while. I was out briefly yesterday and had to resort to the allergy medicine during the night. UGH. I just might make do. It's not like we have nothing to eat. Yesterday I processed and froze 5 tubs of chard and 3 sacks of broccoli. That was the last from the garden. Thank God that's all over.

Enjoy the day everyone. Remember, every day is precious.

Gail

Thank you for the supoprt everyone. I'm going to be okay, I can feel that I truly will. I think I just have to take my time and not try to rush anything. That's how I ended up getting married too quickly after my first husband's death, and I'm just not interested in doing that again.

A friend at work told me last summer that she could introduce me to some men...and I had to tell her to at least wait until after I was actually divorced. (I never even dated 2 men at the same time before I was married so I wasn't at all interested in meetig men while I was still married.) Now I'd just rather wait a while to meet anyone new. I've had enough hassles with men to last me a lifetime and I think that I'd just prefer to be alone for a while than to get involved with someone else too soon. Besides...my kitties will keep me company. emoticon

Val, all of this will be a change for you, but you will adjust. It takes lots
of time, but you will make it. Being in control of everything, gives
lots of freedom to do things your way.
Best Wishes!!

Good Morning:

Hope you are all doing well and are enjoying good weather this weekend.

We started to get bids on painting our window sashes. They need to be scraped, sanded, primed and painted. Vic shouldn't be around those chemicals and I definitely don't want him on a ladder doing the upstairs windows. Best to leave it to the professionals. I haven't a clue as to what it will run. Any of you have ideas?
