hello Everyone,
Pat - I am so sorry to hear that. You and your family are in my prayers. It is so hard to lose someone you love and care about so more prayers will be sent up.

I tried to call back to Hope today but could not get through to make sure they got my resume so I will try again tomorrow. I took all my money out of the bank today and I do have place here in town that I am going to tomorrow to see if they can help me with rent. And then I may have another place that might be able to help with my electricity and that will leave enought for my car payment. Then I just have to hope some job comes through. just keep me in your prayers please!

I am not watching my eating much just trying to eat as I can. Just don't have a lot of food but did go to my food stamps appoinment today and will have it processed on Friday. So maybe something will all come together. Hope everyone has a great day!

A big thank you to the team for my goodies. Sometimes the little things mean a lot. I am very down this evening and not going to be on here long. I got the dreaded call this afternoon that my cousin had coded 3 times and things looked really bleak. Her husband was trying to make the decision whether they should continue working on her when I talked to her daughter. I am really feeling down right now as she was like my older sister and my boys call her aunt and her girls call me aunt. Both of my sons have been calling.
I am glad I went tot he gym this morning and put in 90 min in the pool after that as I certainly do not think I could make myself do it tonite.
I wish you all a great Holiday weekend.
Thank you for all the prayers and support.
Pat

I just went to my spark page and saw I had a goodie the other day - a hug for huddling and a massage so I can get a better nights sleep. Thank you so much. I don't go to my Spark page too often. I guess I will have to check more often.

I didn't want the team goodie points to go to waste. So - as you see - some of you received some surprises based on your recent chat comments. Tomorrow is a new month and we will have a new supply of team goodie points.

I have been to two fitness classes at the YMCA this morning. Before I am totally wiped out, I need to follow Gail's lead and go see what I can harvest from the back yard.

Good Morning:

Vic's taking himself to chemo today so I'm going to get some stuff done. I already made my home made pasta sauce. Think I'll go to the garden and pick and may stop at the library if they get in the book I reserved.

If any of you get a chance to read my blog today you will see how I saved money by speaking up. The economy is not so good now and businesses want to hold on to their patrons. I and some members from another team I'm on have been asking for discounts when service prices seem to high. It seems to work, for the most part.

Enjoy the day.

Gail

Pat: Thanks for the heads up about a new thread tomorrow, Sept. 1.

Enjoy each day.

Thank you for the piggy bank to store my left over grocery money in.
BTW....I have also been saving by getting my gasoline at Costco...as much as 20 cents per gallon as little as 6 cents averages 10 cents a gallon...every little bit helps,, just plan your trips!

A big "thank you" to the team for my new "Blender" SparkGoodie. I do, indeed, enjoy cooking and baking) from scratch. My collection of cookbooks, and the availability of an endless array of food-focused websites, provide plenty of inspiration for me to spend time in my kitchen trying out a wide variety of recipes.

Good evening to all. I am stopping in about bedtime. Real late today.

60Sixty - I did not sleep well at all last night myself. I went to bed about 10 and was awake at 11:30 to 12:30 then at 1 at 2 and then 3:15 I just got up and read until time to get coffee ready and get busy with the day. I think I may take something tonight. I have tried melatonin and it has not worked for me that well. I read that you may have to take it for quite a while before it starts working.

Darla - I hope your job hunt goes well and something comes up for you.

JLANWY9381 - I know what you mean about being busy but I find I have to get something prepared in advance or else I eat about anything in site. I have been pretty good about buying meat on sale and getting it in the refrigerator and taking out several items one day and cooking them. Then all I have to do is whip up a salad or veggie and I have proper food in about 20 - 30 minutes.

Golddusttwin - Way to go on the potato purchase!! What are you going to do with all of those spuds?

Well good night to one and all and I hope we all sleep well tonight.

Laurie

Good Evening team. Nearly our final chat for August. Where did the month go/?????
I had another typical Pat day, was up early to work in the gardens for the park and got my quota of weeds-a bucket full. Checked in on dad and then home for breakfast and a shower as I was going out this morning with my friend, Vicky. One of my bathing suits bit the dust last week so there was a sale on Mon thru Wed, where all suits were $21.99. I ended up with 2 and the tags were still on them-originally $78! Even better, I got to buy them in 2 sizes smaller than the last time I bought a suit! I am so excited. Not where I should be, but at least I am headed in the right direction.
We stopped by Walgreens and I picked up the paper plates for Dad's party. They had a sale on, got the larger ones BOGO and the smaller ones were buy one, 2nd one 50% off so saved a little there. I still have more to buy, but hopefully by this time next week it will pretty much be done.
Had to stop by the bank and then 2 grocery stores-they are across the street from each other. I can't believe how hard it is to find decent bananas. DH is supposed to eat 1 daily for the potassium so I have to pick them up every few days as he won't eat them when they get too ripe (those get passed on to dad who likes them ripe!).
Had a meeting this afternoon with our financial planner, he is helping get our stuff in order-and by the time he left, it was time to think about dinner and I wasn't in the mood to cook so it was Subway tonite and all 3 of us had a nice big salad with grilled chicken. Very yummy and my snack tonite was a cup of hot chocolate. I am trying to get back on track after my less than stellar weekend.

I stopped at the potato warehouse and picked up 50 lbs of red potatoes for $8 and 50 lbs of russets for $7...that's 100 lbs of potatoes for $15.00 or 15 cents a pound...and in the stores right now reds are going for 70 cents a pound and russets for 60 cents a pound!
So I save $50.50 for my potatoes!

Thanks-and so far so good! I have been up since 5:30 or so. Got hubby ready for work, walked the dogs (all 4...just in the yard but they got walked lol), got little man's lunch made and him and the neighbor boy ready and off to school. Did some work on the computer, went to the gym for a little over and hour. Came back and had some breakfast...ww english muffin with reduced fast peanut butter, a grilled cheese (strange I know, maybe since I haven't worked out ina while my body needed the carbs?), and some carrots. Interesting breakfast, but sounded good and not so bad for me. LIttle more starch than normal this early, but I'll just cut out some later in the day I suppose. Now to stay motivated the rest of the day!

emoticon This is a good morning for me to catch up. Actually the sun hasn't come up yet.

emoticon It is nice to catch up with Kurt.
We returned from a trip to North Carolina over a week ago. It is so easy to stop at McDonald's or similar place when you are traveling the interstates. They are certainly affordable. Back to home cooking and "copy cat" recipes. Glad the hurricane didn't devastate your area.

emoticon CopperPenny
Glad you are making progress. One more day - if tomorrow is still the day to get the stitches out.

Glad you are back. Your hummingbird feeder looks like ours. Our living room is the center of the house, with windows facing the street and more windows facing the back yard. DH has three kinds of feeders out the back that he loves to sit and watch. Lately, 3 hummingbirds fight each other to feed. They don't seem to know there are four ports.

emoticon Dusty
Tasty way to clean out the fridge. Even more frugal!

Pat emoticon
Glad your friends are safe after the tornado.
And, we know about the weeds. But ours are the worst in our front flower bed.
Hope your friends near the dam were safely evacuated.

I wonder if your heat wave is headed east. Thankful we have a/c. Now a days, so do the schools. When I was a kid, the teachers brought in their own fans from home. The windows were so high that we couldn't see out. I guess so we wouldn't day dream.

I am always hearing about heirloom tomatoes. But I have never seen them for sale [as plants or seeds] and I have never seen them at the farmer's market. What is unique about them? ? ?

Lauri emoticon I like to shop the sales at Penny's. I have gotten some really good deals on purses there in the past. I put the sale tags in the zipper pockets. when I carried one last winter, I shocked myself when I found the tag and the price. I bought it for $3.

Darla emoticon I hope your resume' is well liked. Sometimes it seems it takes forever for some agencies to even have formal interviews.

emoticon I haven't been sleeping well. Last night, I tried melatonin for the first time. I did sleep sound for six hours. I have a strange rash. It looks like it could be poison ivy, but I don't know how I got it. I only worked with our tomato plants a couple of times in the past week. the wind and rain had knocked over the "cages" and I had straightened them and rescued the tomatoes that fell on the ground. Any way, hoping to recover from this itch soon. I went to the pool yesterday and that seemed to make it worse. so, today, I will skip the pool and just go to yoga.

I just stopped by for some motivation this morning. I have not been doing well food wise, and have been busy...I can't use that as an excuse though. I need to spend time prepping and getting things ready ahead and not use being busy as an excuse to eat crazy again! It is not good for me to do that...and WAY to early in the school year!

She will be 4 and she can already ties her own shoes and she is just so cute and so smart! My daugher is Erin and she is Maddie and my Son is Chris and his wife is Caitlin and their Dad also has a 18 year old daughter in Mexico and 2 little boys in Arizona. We have been divorced for a long time but we moved back ot Borger where he and his family live and the kids got to graduate from there and it is just 15 miles where we went to high school together and met! We have had a lot of proublems and he came really close to killing me even but I am stil alive and so is he! So now I think we are both too old and tired to hurt each other now! lol I have been dating a great gur for 4 years but he is 58 and he thinks he is too old for me and really wants someone his own age and he is right. Good morning,

I have missed so many posts as I have been away off and on for a few days and I don't have time to catch up right now.

I am not one for much shopping, but found myself in Penny's on Saturday and needed a new purse, I have been putting of getting one for years. There were so many purses on sale it was hard to pick one. I ended up getting 2. One was regular $40 and I got it for $12, the other was $50 and I got it for $25. Now I am glad I waited so I didn't have to pay full price. I just love it when that happens.

Hope everyone will have a great day and best wishes to anyone who was in the path of Irene.

Good Morning:

Well, I went to bed just before 7pm yesterday and got up a couple of minutes ago at 5am. Ten hours. I usually don't get anywhere near that amount of sleep at one time but I guess I needed it badly. I feel great.

My friend Celeste lives in Brooklyn, NY and she called me yesterday to tell me that is was just a bad storm. Pretty much what you reported, Kurt. I'm thankful that they took precautions and that it was a bust. Better safe than sorry. An inconvenience is nothing compared to what might have been.

I've got some beautiful organic eggplants from a friend of a friend's garden and plan to make moussaka with one of them. I usually make it in two 8" square pans and I freeze one. It's a LOT of work but is so good and it freezes well. Meanwhile, I'm freezing my tomatoes like crazy and still have lots more. I've been giving some to friends and my daughter.
It's just lovely; everyone is enjoying them. Last week a local supermarket had a "sale" on heirloom tomatoes and they weren't even organic. The sale price was $5.99/lb! My friends, sisters Ann and Suzie, shop there and I told them NOT to buy any. Ann stopped by last week and I sent her home with several for the two of them.

My food has been terrible the last couple of days. What to do?

Stay well and be happy.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Kurt I am glad you made it thru Irene safely. It is scary not knowing what will happen. I am glad it wasn't as bad as they predicted. Our friends up in the Catskill area are without electric tonite-talked to them this morning and it was raining hard then. We heard from other friends the dam down the road from their house had broken this afternoon but since we can't reach them, just praying they are safe. That dam was used to provide water for NYC so wonder what this will do to your supply.
Have a great week everyone.

Hi, everyone:

I just wanted to tell you all that the hurricane in NY was a bust -- just a bad rainstorm with strong wind, but not strong enough to do damage.
I live in an area that's not far from the coast on two sides -- just two short subway stops from Coney Island beach -- so I thought it was going to be awful.
The only trouble I had was that water was coming through the lower third of the outside door, so I stuffed the crevices with newspaper and it stopped.
Now we have to deal with no public transportation tomorrow because the yards where most of the trains and buses are kept were flooded.

I figured I'd let you know that things are OK. Some people I know told me they'd had visions of me and my dog being carried away by the wind, but (thankfully) that didn't happen.

Have a good evening.

PS - Harplute, have you tried horseradish instead of hot peppers in the salsa? I haven't yet, but it sounds interesting and horseradish has a lot of health benefits.

I'm really dragging today. Thankfully, I don't have any appointments tomorrow.

I made a fresh salsa today. My granddaughter was here and called out the ingredients: Fresh heirloom tomato, hot pepper, a tad of white vinegar, some salt, red onion and garlic. It went over well and provided another opportunity to use my heirloom tomatoes.

Enjoy the evening.

Good to hear from you Kurt. Glad to know things worked out for your furbaby.

I have had a great birthday weekend. Had a wonderful time shopping with my friend, Vicky today. We had so much fun. Haven't done anything like this in ages so it was a special girl's day.

I got up very early to work in my garden before I went out for the day so it wasn't all fun. I am going to have to do that several mornings to get it whipped back into shape as the heat and rain has the weeds growing like "weeds"!

Stay safe everyone on the east coast-don't take chances - Mother Nature can pack a whollop. I just got pics tonite from our friend in OK who lost her home to a tornado back in May. It is lucky they had their storm cellar or they would have died.

emoticon Kurt, sorry to hear about your dog but glad everything worked out! Sounds like things are improving for you. Hoping that that'll continue. And that Irene doesn't reach you!

emoticon Leg seems to be going dow as bandage is loose. Only hurts when I first step on it in the morning. Stitches will come out ont Wednesday. Not needing the walker as much. This has been a year I never want to repeat!

Kurt: It's so good to hear from you. Please take the evacuation warnings seriously. This upcoming hurricane is not unlike the one of 1938 where hundreds on Long Island died. I spoke with my friend Celeste very briefly yesterday and she does not live in an evacuation area. However, her roof is in bad need of repair and she is really worried about damage from wind and rain. Please take all precautions. You will be in my thoughts.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hi everyone,

Haven't had much time, lately, but at least I've been working, and I've been putting away as much as possible.
The only major expense I've had was my dog's emergency surgery ($1,200), which is really cheap for NYC.-- and it's money I've never regretted spending because she's acting like a puppy again (she must have been ailing for a while, but I had no idea).

Well, up here, we've lived through the "earthquake," which was about two minutes -- the school building shook and we evacuated everyone. No damage, but the students are all immigrants and were somewhat upset about that.
Now we're about to see if we're going to get the hurricane, which is making some of the students more upset. I bought batteries; I have a radio and canned food; and I'm going to fill up the water bottles, so things should be OK. I'm in a basement apartment -- the only danger might be flooding, but the previous hurricanes had all calmed down by the time they'd gotten here, so I'm not losing sleep over it. The NYC Mayor, however, ordered all public transportation to be shut down at 12 noon tomorrow, which means I won't be able to do any of the errands I save for Saturdays (the only day I can do them).

I've been watching what I eat, and getting plenty of walking every day to and from the train station (about 2 miles a day), but I ate two of those McDonald's 99-cent hamburgers (650 calories total) for lunch for ten days and I gained eight pounds. I cut out the McDonald's (it's the only thing in this neighborhood and I was too lazy to bring lunch at the time), and now the weight is going back down.
There's something about fast food: I can make a copycat recipe at home and I won't gain, but if I eat the real thing, I blow up.

The school just paid to get my teaching license renewed, and they had it expanded to General Academics and ESL/English so I can teach the business courses, as well. They have plans to upgrade their own license from Business School to Technical College, so it's worth it for me to stay here. My resume is full of Language and Business Schools, so a College will look really good.

So, those are the current events. I haven't stopped in here as often as I usually did, but I'll try to make time each week.
I have good things to tell now, but not much time to tell them.

Everyone stay safe if you are in the path of Irene. She skipped right by us in Fl and we barely got a drop of rain which we were hoping for.
I have had a great birthday-however did go over on my calories for today but not going to beat myself up. Tomorrow is another day. I did go work out this morning so hopefully should have worked off some of it!
Went to visit our friend and he had his heart cath this afternoon and no blockage. Tomorrow they are going to scope him to try to find out more on the internal bleeding.
My cousin is making some progress in rehab. Still worried about the heart problem but that is going to be an ongoing issue and hoping she is going to be able to adjust to the many changes to her diet she needs to make.
Nite all.

I surprised myself at getting the goodies distributed bfore the weekend starts.

More than once, I have seen some of you say you were strapped for time & just wanted to say hi, etc.

Darla I am keeping you in my prayers that things come together for you and it sounds like your are making all the right moves.

I went to the Thursday market today with a friend and came home with lots of veggies so made a casserole tonite-couldn't find anything online, so I made my own. It turned outpretty yummy too.

We are getting some of the rain tonite from Irene but no wind so far. Hoping we just get rain.

Helllo Everyone,
You are so right about so many thing effectiing our health. I am also Type II Diabetic and have high blood pressure and high tyglcerides but I only take a pill for my Diabetes and trying very hard to lose the weight. I have lost 50 pounds from 305- 250 now so I am slowly getting there! I was actually really skinny the majority of my life. I just have gained a lot of weight on my Bipolar meds so now I am trying to get it all off again! It is battle with all the health problems and medications I have to take but we are both getting there!

I called OU, University of Oklahoma, where I graduated with my Masters in Human Relations and will hopefully have an appointment with an advisor next week to see how many more clases I need to take for my temporary counseling lincense. I have 2 places that might work with me and possibly even pay for my classes so that would be good. In the meantime I might reapply at a call center here in town that I worked for just to have some money coming in if they will rehire me.

Hope everyone has a good day! Darla

Have a wonderful day!

There are so many factors that can effect our health, weight, blood sugars and blood pressure on a daily basis...I can work out, have no ice cream treat before bed and have high FBS in the morning and I have not worked out and had twice my normal ice cream for bed and had low blood sugars. The amount of sleep we get, stress, what we eat , exercise plus other factors all enter in with our controlling our blood sugar, blood pressure and weight.
I am still diet and exercise controlled Type II and finally (after years and several surgeries that made conundrums on my efforts)...losing some weight. Losing weight will help with so much: fbs, blood pressure, plus our general health and outlook in life! When I began I was 205 today I am 197.5...I just hate to share my weight as it still isn't a positive factor in my life but acknowledging it and my efforts to lose are good mind sets and less stressful too!

Keep going Sparkies each one of us is unique and wonderfully made and what works for one doesn't always work for another but if we stay aware of what is going on and when (good idea for a journal here) then we can empower ourselves and WE be in control instead of our diabetes or weight controlling us! Bless you all on your journey to better health!

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass... it's about learning to dance in the rain. Vivian Greene emoticon

Good Morning:

Well, I did pretty well with the salt and veggies yesterday. There is room for improvement in the salt category: I tend to eat a lot of deli and need to get away from that merry-go-round. My calories were a challenge. I really got hungry and the late afternoon, evening and night went on. I did all right, but again there is a lot of room for improvement. As a late night snack I had some home made guacamole...no salt added... and some blue organic corn chips. OK, so the corn chips are bad news. BUT I ate much less than usual, so that's progress. My guess is I still came within my calorie range or only 100-200 calories above. It wasn't a total disaster. It was progress.

One of my big achievements yesterday was logging my food. Tedious as it is it seems to be the one thing that keeps me on track or close to it.

Today I want to work on my liquid intake. Got nowhere near goal yesterday.
Wishing you all a great Spark day.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hello Linda,

You wrote that you want to give out goodies worth 5 points to people who huddle today and asked for suggestions as to which one would be the best to give out.

The (group) Hug goodie might be a good one since it features the same picture as the one on the huddle page ... kind of a connection between the huddling and the goodie.

Two other 5-point goodies I particularly like are Pinwheel and Sunshine, because they are bright and cheerful.

emoticon Got home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. Had to go in Saturday evening because it'd swelled & I couldn't put any weight on it. Bill took me to the one in the town 7 miles away. They ran 2 tests & couldn't figure out what was wrong so the had Bill take me to the one in st. Louis , about 35 miles away. They did a test when I got there & another one later that day. Then they did one on a Monday & a MRI on Tuesday morning. That one really hurt. After that they did surgery. Counting the blood clot they took 900 cc of stuff out of my leg. They also said that I didn't need to be taking any blood thinners. Now I'm using a walker. They take the stitches out on the 31 which is when we'll meet our new doctor.I'm really hoping this ends all the medical suff that's struck us.

It's really hot & humid. Hasn't rained so everythings drying up

Hope everyones having a good & safe day. emoticon

emoticon Mary,
I could have worded it better.
There will be DELAYED GRATIFICATION. I plan to give everybody a TEAM GOODIE that huddles today. I may not have time to do this until Sunday as they must be sent one at a time.

I am still looking for SUGGESTIONS on the best GOODIE to give out for having HUDDLED.
There is on that is a group hug.

Here is what I posted yesterday:
emoticon to one and all
You probably have read the team spark mail:
"Huddle with the team on Thursday!"
"Then Look for a Surprise."

I know that some of our chatters don't always huddle. I hope you do tomorrow. It is an easy way for me to see what team members are active. I am hoping to give out Team Goodies to those who huddle. If I run out of team goodies, I can send my own. As a team leader, goodies can be sent to those who haven't opened their spark pages to the public. However, I cannot see their page.

emoticon I want to use goodies worth 5 points. Does anybody have any suggestions as to which one would be the best to give out.?

Hello Everyone,
Thanks for the encouragement! There is another job where my counselor works to that I could do my supervision so hopefully one of them will come through. In the meantime I think I am going to go back and reapply to a call center here in town and see if they will hire me back since I left on good terms. All they can do is tell me No. It would bring some money in fast. And I do trust God in all of this. He always takes care of me!

Glad everyone is doing so well. Keep up the good work. Really enjoy reading everyone's posts! Have a great day tomorrow! Darla

Darla-that was wonderful news and will keep praying that all this comes together for you. The Man Upstairs is working on wonderful things for you.

I am so excited, after taking DH to rehab and my stint at the gym, I ran some errands and then went to get my haircut. I came out looking like a different woman. New color, highlights and a little different style!! Now I feel like I am ready for dad's big party where there will be lots of pictures. I hate getting mine taken so hoping this will ease the anxiety!

I like your comments at the top of your spark page. This IS a journey and we should all be seeking a healthier life - body & mind. I also add spirit - but that is sometimes difficult to define. I saw that you have a dehydrator. I tried Chef Meg's roasted tomato recipe. Some of the people who commented said that used the recipe for their dehydrator.

My MIL was deaf. As a young mother she wore a device that hung around her neck. Before she died 8 years ago, she had state of the art hearing aides. It worked for her quite well. I was wondering how old your mother was when she was diagnosed. My mother was diagnosed when she was about 5 years older than I am. She was successfully treated about 20 years ago.
I have had family doctors argue that I only needed screened every five years when I was past 50. I found a gynecologist who would do it annually. Appointment will be in the near future.

Hello Everyone,
I called the Mental Healht Oupatient Clinic today and talked to someone who they may be willing to let me do my supervision for my counseling license there! I am really excited! I hope to hear from them soon. I do have a few more classes to take but they may pay for those classes so that would be great! Went to pay my car payment today and got $44 worth of groceries from Wal-Mart. I think that is the cheapest I have ever got out of there! lol So hopefully I will here from HOPE soon. Applied for food stamps, medicaid and to pay my medicare premiums since I am disabled. So hopefully it will all come together. Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow! Darla

emoticon I am concerned for team mates that may be effected by today's east coast earth quake. The map on TV indicated some tremors were identified as far west as Indiana, but we didn't notice any thing.

Today, I got wrapped up for a while with trying to make a referral for an elderly homeless man. He showed up at the church when we were trying to lock everything up. We had food and water to give him & sent him to the American legion as he said he was a veteran. He had hitch-hiked to our little town, which does not have shelters. The social services all close down at 4 or 4:30. We are not used to running into to this kind of thing from somebody with no local connections.

I have had a couple long busy days, and still have follow up phone calls to make.
I will try to touch base tomorrow. I scanned your posts & know that many of your lives are complicated.

Linda-good luck with your test Wed. Glad you are taking care of things - some people just put their head in the sand and that isn't good.

Darla-keeping you in my prayers that something will pop up for you. Think positive.

My cousin is doing better, they took out her central line late yesterday and with insurance like it is today, the sent her right on back to rehab. She has a long recovery ahead-she can't put weight on the broken leg for approx 6 wks so unless she gets strong enough to manage on crutches, she will stay in rehab. I am working on coachin she & her husband on a low sodium diet (they should have been on it before now, but that is neither here nor there-they have to do it from now on or she will go back into CHF.

I went to the pool this afternoon and got run out by a storm-I take thunder and lightning seriously down here. I had gone to pick up my new glasses just before this and filled up the gas tank just in case with Hurricane Irene out there! I spent 4 hrs this morning working on the audit with another lady and we are pretty much done. We have it down to 60 cents off and made the executive decision to let that go! I have to type up everything and do the spreadsheets and then we will submit our audit to the board.

Have a great evening all.

Good Tuesday morning to all and I hope all of you have a good day.

Darla - It is hard but keep your chin up and good luck finding a job.

Flutter - Best of luck with the new hearing aids.

Gail - It does sound like a lot. I have been doing some canning, freezing, and dehydrating and add that to everything else you have to do it can be almost too much.

Been busy running like crazy getting everything ready for my BIL. He comes in today at 1:30 PM. My SIL in driving me out of my mind. She keeps changing her mind about coming to visit. The tickets have been bought and she made reservations at a hotel already also. This is so like her to do. My Husband at this point would rather her not come. But, I just keep telling him not to worry and not to say anything. If he does she'll just get mad.

Well, I hope everyone has a great week.

Good Evening:

What a weekend! It's been go, go, go since Friday and it won't end before tomorrow as Vic has his weekly blood test. I think he won't need a transfusion, but the test will tell.

So what have I been doing? Friday I had a birthday luncheon for a friend and wound up with more guests than originally anticipated. No worries. I have enough food in the freezer to feed an army, but it was a bit more work than I thought there would be.

Saturday I ran errands early in the day and in the evening we celebrated my sil's birthday. For that I only had to show up.

Sunday my cousin and his wife came for a visit. I thought they would stay for a meal, so I got up early and made a spinach quiche. As it turned out they had to catch a flight at O'Hare and could only stay a couple of hours. I brought the quiche to my neighbors who have been so good to us. (They work long hours and neither has time to cook.)

This evening our grandson and his girlfriend came for a visit and dinner. I tried to keep it very simple so it wasn't too taxing.

With all of this I was picking veggies and freezing them. Doesn't sound like much but it's a lot of work. Whew! Glad the weekend has passed. I'm looking forward to winding down the rest of the week.

Hope you are all doing well.

Gail

Darla: Good luck in your job hunt.

Pat: How's your cousin doing?

Linda: You will be in my prayers. I hope all turns out well on Wednesday when you see the doctor.

Enjoy each day.

Hello Everyone,
I have been MIA for a while because I am so depressed over not having a job . But I am going tomorrow to Okla. City to apply for a job over there if it is still open. So hopefully I will get that or some job soon. I got my final check and it is enought to pay this months bills but not sure how I will get all of next months paid. I have noone that can help me either. I forgot to go to Weight Watchers Sunday so I will go Wed night and weigh in. I think I will go and do Zumba again tomorrow night and that shoudl help relieve this stress off my body. I just hope something comes through fast.

I read some of the posts but a little behind. I hope everyone is doing well and I hope Pat's cousin gets better! Have a great day tomorrow everyone! Darla

Cancer is scary, but a positive attitude is great medicine. Keep your chin up and let us know what happens at your appoitment.

I have took a day off to go to the audiologist. He is getting information on newer hearing aides that may be better for me. I will still be just about deaf even with them in, but it will give me more clues perhaps. Time will tell.

I am trying to work on the ballot board and one lady refused to work with me because of my lack of hearing. The woman I am with now is a bit uncomfortable for me to work with, but maybe tomorrow will be better. I think I should have passed this year. The long hours of sitting and only moving hands and arms is uncomfotable as I get older. Also the fast pace is didfficult for me to keep up all day--8+ hours a day.

Hope you are all doing well this weekend. It has been a busy one for me, with family.

Wednesday I have an appointment with the breast care specialist - I am high risk. I go to see her twice a year. Always dread it a bit, since my mother died of breast cancer. However, I want to be proactive.

Thursday another appointment with therapist.

Pat - it is good to take a day off once in a while and glad to hear you got rain. We also got rain and we needed it too.

Sixty - did you have a good vacation?

Kterry75 - I didn't know dollar tree had a site you could order from. I will have to check that out.

My best deals lately have been coming from the farmers market. I think I am hooked. I could go 3 or 4 times a week. I have been giving my dehydrator quite a work out the past couple of weeks. I have been getting red bell peppers for fifty cents each, our store has them on sale for $1.39 each, not much of a sale. I have roasted about a dozen and froze them for this winter.

No update yet on my cousin today.
We went to breakfast with 7 others from our community at the Moose this morning and then came home to check on dad. I went over before we left and he was still asleep! He said he didn't get up till 9 which is very unusual for him but I am glad he is sleeping better-some nites he was only getting 4-5 hrs so 10 is great.
I went to the pool for a good workout this afternoon and have spent the rest of the day reading the paper and some magazines-can you believe it, I took a day off and relaxed, didn't pull a single weed-so far!!!
Have a wonderful week.

emoticon Pat, I am so sorry to hear about the health concerns of your loved ones.

I have missed a lot of posts while on vacation. I assume the soy milk, etc., is shelf stable.
The Dollar tree stores in my area do not have refrigeration. I will have to check the link. After a little searching, I found this page on their website:
www.dollartree.com/kitchen-tableware
/s
pices-snacks-pretzels-chips-cookies/R>213c336/index.cat

I can buy salt for 36 cents in local stores. That salsa is a great price. BBQ sauce is basically the average price in any store. I haven't bought canned mushrooms or Mandarins for a while, so I don't know how those prices compare. I don't buy the canned meats they offer because it is too high in sodium for my household. [My log-in indicates our approximate age.] Water is the only other item that I found that I would consider buying and that price was fantastic.

Gail emoticon
I have a pile of who knows what all in my computer room. I decided that I needed to get it organized when I got home from vacation, but the whole house needs a good cleaning first.

emoticon emoticon
We drove home in some storms yesterday. Then I woke up after midnight to more thunder and lightening. It wasn't raining, though. The TV weather map of Indiana showed most of the state covered with thunderstorms. Stormy weather was covering about 40% of the USA.

Stay safe, but if you can, get a simple Sunday walk in today. emoticon

Quick update-my cousin's DH just let me know they took her off the ventilator. She went into CHF and is still in ICU and they don't know what went wrong at this time. He is just heading back to the hospital but wanted to let me know this much. He expressed his deep appreciation for all the prayers, he said it is a miracle she
has rallied like this and it must be all the people I have praying for her. Thank you, thank you, thank you. emoticon These cyber friends are the best there is.

Thanks for the prayers-no news today-I haven't been able to reach her DH so he is likely in the hospital and reception is not always great.
Penney hope things help you feel better and you don't need to go to the hospital.
We had a downpour last eve-got nearly 6 inches in under 4 hours! We were a block from home playing cards with friends and poor Abbie was home alone. She was glad to see us when we braved the rain, thunder and lightning and came home to her. She sat on my lap for over 2 hours! Won't complain as we needed the rain and it did bring our lake up a little. Got so much they had to drain the swimming pool down several inches to stop it from overflowing.
Have a wonderful Sunday and will update you all when I get more news.

Gail - it sounds like you had a wonderful lunch the other day. I also do best when I don't let paperwork pile up on me. Paperwork seems to be one thing that seems to grow on it's own overnight!

Penny-I too hope the heat and aleve work for you and we get better real soon.

Good Morning:

Several days ago we were talking about filing stuff and I mentioned I used my laundry basket as a catch-all. Well, this morning I went through it and dumped what I didn't need and filed the rest. As I filed I got rid of lots of things that need to go into storage. Pat, I'm going to heed your advice and try not to have it pile up on me.

Penny: I hope the heating pad and Aleve work so that you don't have to go to the hospital. I'm praying for you.

Pat: Any further word on your cousin?

Have a safe and happy day.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

We're getting a storm & the winds are really high. Bill wnt to Wal-Mart to get me a heating pad & some Aleve as my leg is really hurting. If it gets worse I'll have to go to the hospital & I'd rather not do that. Supposed to see the dr on Tuesdday.

Storms getting worse & the lights are flickering.

Team, asking for prayers for my cousin. She broke her leg and was sent to rehab and today they had to call 911 and send her back to the hospital and now she is on a ventilator and in ICU. They don't know what is going on-broken legs should not do this.
We got a torrential downpour this evening and lots of thunder and lightning-scared Abbie to pieces.
Have a great weekend.

Good Afternoon:

I'm really beat and about to take a nap. Thought I'd check in first.

Yesterday I went to the beauty school to get my hair done. They changed the pricing structure so now when you go for a tint you get a tint, shampoo, cut and style all for $20. I think that's a big bargain. It looks so much better and is easy to manage.

Today I had a luncheon birthday for my good friend, Ann. My grandson and his girlfriend are in town so they joined us. Alex works as a cook in a restaurant, so he did almost all of the cooking and prep work. It was great company, great food and lots of laughs. One of the highlights was a huge tomato, green pepper and cucumber salad ....all organic and from my garden.

Stay well and safe,

Gail

Hang in there, Penny. Be patient and things will get better.

Enjoy each day.

Gail I used to be like you and let things pile up and would finally take a few hours and file it all, after moving into the rv full time, I couldn't do that, didn't have anywhere to let it stack up, I had a file box and everything had to be filed away when I got it or it would get lost so I have kept that habit going since we moved into our home. It only takes a moment to file if I do it as I finish with a piece of paper and mylife is a lot simpler and more organized.
Had a crazy morning-went out and did some weeding early before it got too hot and then over to check on dad. He is doing better. I talked to his dr this evening and he wants to keep him on the increased dose of the dieuretic until Mon and then go back to the usual dose as he has decreased kidney function so we don't want to stress them any more than necessary.
We went out to run errands about 11 and dealing with the country government is a trip! We have created a trust and trying to get our home put into the trust is becoming quite a chorse. We visited 3 separate offices before we found what I think is the correct one, however I didn't bring the original copy so will have to make another trip to them. Still not sure what she told me is correct so I want to do some more checking to be sure we do this correctly as we are trying to keep the kids from having to deal with probate here in Fl when the inevitable happens! Since none of them live down here, we want things to be simple-ha ha.
After that little runaround which ended up taking 3 stops and even a ride by golf cart to get to one government building because there is construction and you can't park close by so they shuttle you, we headed to the bank to get a special seal so we can transfer our fund money into the trust-should just cash it in since it isn't much and not worry about it-spend it an enjoy, ha ha! I will be glad when I get all this stuff done-the lawyer does the easy part, you still have to do the work to get it transferred.
This afternoon I did a little more weeding since it was overcast. I also called my cousin out in AZ, she fell and broke her leg and is in the hospital. She is going to have to go into rehab because she can't get up and around on her own so until she can she will have to stay in rehab. She isn't too happy. Her husband has health issues too and where her insurance is going to "allow" her to go is across town. I suggested that next year she look into traditional medicare and a supplement as it isn't as restrictive. She was saying they have to pay $250 a day for rehab and every time she sees a dr she has a co-pay, etc. We might pay more, but at least DH is covered and we don't have to pay when he sees a dr, is hospitalized, etc.
Have a great evening.

Good Morning:

There must be something in the air. I have a whole laundry basket filled to the brim with things that must be filed. I HATE TO FILE, so I've been putting it off and putting it off. I won't have anything in piles on the floor or stacked on surfaces, so everything is contained haphazard in the laundry basket. What I really need to do it file what I have and put the oldest stuff in storage.

I learned a while back that pinto beans are among the healthiest. They are also very reasonable and filling. I invented a salad with them that I just love. The ingredients include raw pinto beans, diced sweet white or red onion, white wine vinegar, olive oil, salt and finely diced green olives.
If you want the recipe just let me know.

Wishing you all a safe and happy day.

Gail

Pat: So glad you found time to have fun.

Darla: How are you doing?

SRIVERS: I was giving things to Easter Seals and St. Vincent's but recently discovered a Hospice thrift store in our area and have been bringing things there. It's good to be able to pass usable things on and have others benefit from them, isn't it?

Went though a few rubbermate tubs and found a few more items to give to AmVets. It felt good to clean out everything. Did a few things around the house and in the garage. I was just glad that hubby finally cleaned the office floor up so that I can get to the file cabinet.

FLUTTER - the only was I could get my hubby to clean is Two things - 1. Told him it was a year ago that his Sister came up and he promised me he would clean it up. And she will be here in 3 weeks and his brother will be here in 5 days. 2. I told him if he didn't file all his stuff by Friday that I was going to file it my way and he can figure out where everything is later. HA!

The last one pretty much did it. The way I file he'd never understand but, it would be filed. He won't wear his glasses.

Hope everyone has a great day.

After the day we had yesterday, we decided to revive our Wed ritual and go to breakfast this morning-we had 7 of us show up and it was a nice time visiting with everyone.
emoticon
When we got back, I went to the pool for 2 hours to try to work off breakfast!! emoticon
This afternoon I went to get my eyes checked, found out I have the beginning of cataracts, emoticon Ordered new glasses-got wrap around prescription sunglasses to try to protect my eyes and slow down the cataracts. I also needed new glasses as mine were pretty badly scratched up so though I wasn't wanting to spend the money, I took advantage of the special that JC Penney had on right now and actually the 2 pr were less than the last pair I got.
