Hi All,

Gail - Glad to hear Vic is doing good and enjoys music.

Pat - Sorry to hear about the family. My prayers are with you.

Worked in the yard yesterday. I got half the patio cleaned of the moss and grim from the winter. We are renting and I don't think they sealed it.

So, the summer fun starts I have my BIL coming in on the 23rd of August to the 30th. Then my SIL come in on Sept. 3rd to the 9th. Then my Cousin comes in 2 weeks later. Can't wait to see my BIL, he is doing really great.

Today, it is drizzling so, I have plans to work in the garage and clean. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Today has been a strange day. Hubby and I did our usual routine of getting ready for church, on Sunday morning. I had a bit of a sinus headache but pushed myself through it. We were cut off in traffic by 3 people. It was getting to the point that I wanted to turn around and go home b/c of the crazy drivers. But we did go on to church. Low and behold we circled the parkling lot and there was not one spot left. After all of that, we had to drive back home. lol So much for our idea of going to church.

Good Morning:

Vic played the piano for HOURS and HOURS the last two days. He got music he had ordered on Friday and was like a kid in a candy store. I'm so happy for him. His quality of life is very good. This week he starts another round of chemo.

Have decided to make my version of stuffed grape leaves. The beet greens or chard look like good substitutes for grape leaves so I'll give it a try. Have any of you ever made dolmades? I was surprised to see the meat filling version does not include egg and/or bread crumbs. It's meat, raisins, mint, garlic, pine nuts (I don't have any so scratch that). I'll let you know how it turns out.

I had some tomatoes that were ripening and a few peppers ready to pick, so I stopped at the garden yesterday. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered they were no longer there. Someone had taken them. I've been down to a handful of change in the early years of my marriage, but would never have dreamed of stealing. Surely, I would have been happy to share with someone who needed the food. Why couldn't they just ask?

Stay cool and hydrated,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Pat - Both of my daughters have been through second trimester miscarriages - which is what I would classify this as. The one thing I told each of them and their spouses, They have a right to their grief. Later, the one told me that was the best thing anybody told her. She had felt people were denying her need to grieve. Although it has been more than a couple years for each of them, they still have episodes of revisiting the grief - but it gets easier. I only have one living grandchild between the two of them - and yes, we are very thankful for her. Her aunt dotes on her a lot.

I just looked at the team newsletter. I noticed that the announcement in it was dated in January. I thought I had changed that. Maybe I better go do that.

Thanks everyone-kids are hanging in there. Son made it home this afternoon and now they are waiting for things to progress-hopefully naturally. I think the prayers are helping to keep d-i-l calm. She seems to be dealing better today. I keep reminding her they have 6 wonderful children so they have a lot to be thankful for.
God Bless you my Spark Friends. Life may throw us curveballs, but you are always here to give me and my family support and comfort- Thank You from the bottom of my heart.

Pat, I am so sorry to hear this sad news. I always find it heartbreaking. I have prayed for your family.

I am not sure how my weekend will go. If I am not here early enough on AUGUST 1 emoticon . . . please go ahead and start a new thread for the August Chat.
Team mates who have dial -up have trouble opening threads that get too long.

I must have 6 cucumbers. I really don't know how to use it. I am going to search to see if it can be frozen - but then what do I do with it? I am accustomed to using it in salads. DH says his mother used it the same way I use zucchini.

Have a GREAT Week End! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Got the phone call last evening no M-I-L wants-son's wife was expecting #7 and she went for a sonogram yesterday and they can't find a heartbeat-she is about 11 wks but size was approx 8 wks. Now they are waiting for her to naturally abort, if not, she will have to go into the hospital very soon so she doesn't have problems. Son works about 2 hrs away and is scheduled to work OT Sat so he won't get home till Sat afternoon. Say a little prayer that all goes well for them. Our oldest granddaughter is 18 and she is mom's rock so hoping if he doesn't get home she can handle it all.
Thanks

Good Evening:

I got to the garden this morning and picked a few thing. I also cut the long stems off the onions. I wash them cut them up and freeze them When I make a spinach quiche I through some in with the spinach. It has a lovely flavor and isn't too strong.

I'm going to experiment with my Gourmet Italian zucchini. I'm going to make a zucchini spread, substituting zucchini for eggplant in my eggplant spread recipe. I'm not much into sweets so I hardly ever use the zucchini for zucchini bread. Mostly, I use it for cream of zucchini soup. And oh, my cream soups have no cream. Actually, they are low calorie and very satisfying.

I slept a good deal this afternoon and I don't fault myself. I really needed it. Do any of you grab a long nap in the afternoon?

Well, dear friends, as of this minute our congress is still deadlocked. I'd like to scrap all the politicians and start from scratch. UGH.

Enjoy the evening and stay cool and hydrated.

Gail

Darla: I've a small tear in my rotator cuff but it's of little consequence. The REAL problem is that I have very bad arthritis in my shoulder. The PT has resulted in more range of motion and that's big. Who wants to go about without being able to move her shoulder. Not I. You don't realize how much we use the various parts of our body till we lose movement of them.

Enjoy each day.

Pat that is great that you and your husband are exerciing. I really loved zumba tues and will start going every tues and thru night. It is free at a local church! You do so much for your husband and Dad Pat. Be sure you are doing things for yourself too so you don't get burnout. I think I did get really burnout with Mom and lost my patience with her several times. I was just exhausted from taking care of her and going to graduate schoool at the same time. It was much better when she finally went to the nursing home and I could finish my degree!

Gail- I had a bad car wreck 4 years ago and tore my rotator cuff and finally had to have surgery and had a year of physical therapy but it is great now! So congrats on how much progress you have made!

Glad it is Friday! I am going to a movie, cleaning my apt, reading and going to church and WW on Sunday! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Gail that is wonderful news. Keep up the good work-it is amazing isn't it-we either use it or we lose it! I can relate-2 yrs ago I could hardly move my arms and I just wouldn't quit and now I have pretty much full range of motion, just no strength. But like you, I am working on that. DH is making progress-I don't know if he will ever love exercuse but at least he is realizing the importance of it.
Darla that is great news. It is always good to know that family is doing good.
We have been getting afternoon showers the past 3 days and I am loving it since it means I don't have to go out and water every evening. I have been going to the pool early so I can beat the storms. The only downside is that the thunder scares Abbie.
Enjoy the evening.

Hello Everyone,
It is super hot here in Oklahoma! Triple digits for over a month now! We sure need some rain! I have great news! My son Chris is going to college to get his degree in Sports Medicine and trying to some day get into Physical Therapy school. He has been a lifeguard, Aquatic Director and teaching swimming lesson and Water Aeroibics and training lifeguards for over 7 years and he just got hired as a Physical Therapy Assistant! I am so proud of him and he will be so happy to finally get out of the pool! lol He is doing great and just got married St. Patricks Day and I just adore her! She is going to college to get her degree in Nuclear Medicine and be able to read MRIs! So they are doing great! My daughter is a single Mom and has my 3 year old granddaughter. She has worked at a car dealership for most of the 10 years she has lived in Phoenix Ariz. She is the bookeeper in the Service Dept. she was dating a guy she went high school with but he is pretty messed up from being in Irag and his ex wife is pretty crazy! I just didn't want to see her in that at 28! So now she is seeing and talking to one of her best freinds brother and he is flying her and Maddie to Oakland Calif where he lives for 5 days! Maddie wil love the beach! Take care everyone! Stay cool!

The reason I said that I thought the deductions had something to do with your income, about 20 years back, I was told that I had to meet two criteria. It had to be a certain percentage of my income [the more you make, the less likely you qualify], and you had to itemize.
It was a specific situation and the rules could have changed a few times by now.

It is good to know about needing the tax ID number. I thought agencies were real protective of that.

This week the weather man has been telling us that north east Indiana has beat an all time record for the hottest July on record. I knew it was hot - but I must have been remembering August when I was a kid. I am so thankful that we have air-conditioning and that we had the house insulated a year ago. We gave away some fans last year to the mission. There is a big need for that again this year.

Pat: You are absolutely right. In order to get tax credit you must itemize. I thought I stated that on the outset, but I guess I didn't.

I'm so glad you went to the gym and dh went to rehab. How is he doing in rehab?

Today I went in for my PT appointment and my therapist like the rheumatologist was VERY impressed with the progress I made. My reach on my left shoulder is just 2-3 degrees less than the right side. When I started there was a 10 degree differential. Also, I can now reach my spine with my left hand. I could barely reach my waist when I started. Today the PT added a strength training exercise for my left shoulder. Oh, joy.....

Enjoy the evening everyone.

Gail you are right that it is tax deductible-if you itemize. If your income is so low you do not itemize, then no deduction. If you have to buy a special piece of clothing (like we did for our work with Caring Canines-we had to have shirts to identify us and Abbie a vest for a cost of over $100), that is also deductible as is any related costs, just keep good records.
We have had another nice day-temps below 90 (great for us in late July) and more rain late this afternoon so no watering again.
DH went to rehab and I went to the gym-still avoiding anything that pulls on my right side but doing pretty much anything else. When we got home, I made an appt for dad to get his plate worked on for tomorrow afternoon and then spent about 30 - 40 min on the phone with State Farm. It is nice to get our affairs in order but getting the paperwork done is taking some time. I am working on 1 thing a day and in time I will get it all taken care of-may take a couple of weeks!! Hope our kids appreciate this some day-ha ha.
Have a great evening.

Gail that is really good information to have! I did not know you could do that! That would help a lot more people volunteer if they knew that.

Well I survived my first Zumba class! lol There is a church here in town that has free Zumba classes on Tues and Thur night. They are not having it Thru but it was a gym and the whole gym was full of women of all different sizes so I fit right in! There was even a women in a wheelchair doing the upper part so I felt like I had no reason to complain! It was a hour long and I made it thorugh about 40 min of it! I feel great today except my legs are pretty sore. It was fun to do that with so many other women!

I think any volunteer work we can do is good! It just always makes me feel better to help others in some way which is why my degrees are in Family Studies and Human Relations! Hope everyone has a great day!

Sixty: It has nothing to do with income. If the organization you volunteer for is a non-profit (they have a federal tax ID # and are recognized by the government as a non profit) you can deduct the cost of your driving. Keep detailed records that include date and mileage. You can do this on a calendar if it is convenient. Your qualified deduction will be the cents/mile permitted by the government in that tax year. The deduction (cents/mile) includes wear and tear on the vehicle and gas. Thus if you've driven 300 miles in a year and they reimburse 36 cents a mile, your deduction would be (300x.36=$108)

Hi Team.
I need to leave in 5".

I wanted to comment on TOTHEFUTURE1 concern about the cost of volunteering.
I have had to drive my car a lot this year as part of my volunteer work.
I plan to talk to our tax man as to whether it qualifies as a tax deduction.
I know it does sometimes. I think it depends on how low your income is.

SRivers you are so thrifty and that is great that you were able to do all that and save a bundle.

I thought I was headed to the dentist for a cleaning this morning but they called to cancel at the last minute so now it is put off till next week. Had piggy backed an appt with the nephrologist for dad after I got done so made it there in plenty of time. He got a good report so will not have to return there till Sept.
We had a nice shower this afternoon which we really needed. Poor Abbie was scared so I sat and held her for nearly an hour. Think we got about a half in of rain.

Trying to get our projects wrapped up here at home in preparation for a visit over Labor Day with DH's son & D-I-L. They have never been down to visit so looking forward to that.

Start planning for August-it will be here before you know it.

So, I was able to get two chairs covers done and put together. It came out really nice. I will finish the other two tomorrow while hubby is golfing. I re-did the curtains in the middle bed room. I lined them with black and you are now able to roll them up. I have also made 2 black out curtains for the Master bed room. It only cost me a $ 10.00 for the two curtains in the master bed room, about $ 3.00 for the curtains in the Middle bed room, $ 10.00 for the two curtains & runner for the Guest room and about $14.00 for 4 kitchen chairs. It is so much fun. Now I'm trying to figure what I want to sew next. emoticon

Have a great week.

Quite a while ago we talked about saving left over vegetables in the freezer for soups. I am now ready to begin my winter soup collection. I have a great varity of vegtables which should create a great soup. Thanks for a great idea.

My daughter is involved with Cold Wet Noses, a group that saves dogs. We have fostered a few at times for a few days or weeks. I have begun to save left over meats in the freezer cut up as training tools when I have them. I am not a great meat eater and always have leftovers at a restraunt. Since I have trained dogs for years, I find this an inexpensive, always available way to have training tools to suplement my clicker.

I complelty agree with you! That is why I got my education in helping people because there are so many people especially women and children in this country who are suffering and we need to do more to help people in the United States! Poverty is the highest among children than any other group. We need to find a way to fight poverty in any way we can. Just giving food to a Food Bank would help others tremendouly and we can all do that! It really helped me as single mother to get help with food from churches and other places that we needed help from. My family just refused to help us and even put me down for asking for help. But I only made $8 a hour while I was raising my kids and that does not go very far! I am going to a church tonight to do a free Zumba class tonight and Thursday night! I may be dead tomorrow! lol Hope everyone had a great day!

You are right about the cost to be a volunteer-just to get started in Caring Canines cost us about $200 and with the cost of gas for our visits we have had to limit them to the places that are close to us. It is too bad that with the number of people who are willing to give of their time and talents that more isn't done to make it possible because so many can't afford it anymore. I know even the Meals on Wheels folks who deliver meals are falling off because of the cost to deliver the meals. Something is definitely wrong with this country-we rush to aide others but don't take care of our own.

I picked up on a comment about cost to do crafts and hobbies. I used to volunteer but again costs stopped me. I wish somehow the government could make a payment to volunteers to help with their costs. I am sure cost stops a lot of people.

Thanks everyone for your comments about worry. I took a stress management class in college too that was really good. I do a lot of what you said Gail. I watch TV, play on my computer, and I read and write in a journal and plan out things as much as I possibly can. Now that my kids are grown there are lots of things that I would like to learn how to do. I have never sewed that much and I had a close friend for a long time that was an amazing sewer and she kind of put me down for the things I did sew so I just quit doing it. But I would still love to learn how to make a quilt. I have made some baby quilts for my kids for their first Christmas that they both still have! lol Erin my daughter used hers with her daughter Maddie my 3 year old granddaughter and I am pretty sure my son still has his put up somewhere. I would just like to get more into some more hobbies now that my kids are grown. I do love to sing and was singing in the Sweet Adelines but have not gone back for a while. It does cost to be in it and it is hard for me to keep up with the cost sometimes but I do really enjoy it.

Hope everyone has a great day!

What is this country coming to? I see this morning that the government still cannot come to an agreement over the debt ceiling. For those on social security, for our military, no checks and services there will be no checks in August, not to mention the looming disaster all over the globe. God help us....

SRIVERS1: How clever of you to fix up your chairs. I wouldn't know where to start. My DH, however could probably do something like that. Years ago we bought 6 oak dining room chairs at a garage sale for $6 each. He recovered seats in a burgundy crushed velvet and they looked great. We still have them. Over the years I've noticed that chairs are VERY expensive. You can get a used dining table at a pretty good price but the chairs.....

Worked on the Shed in the back yard all weekend. Getting things ready to have a garage sale. Been going thur all my stuff that I packed away a year ago. Went from 20 boxes down to 10 boxes. still have a couple more to go thur.

Need to take a break as my BIL is coming into town the end of August and my SIL is coming 3 days after my BIL leaves. Fixing the kitchen chairs before they come instead of buying new ones. Hubby doesn't like the iron backs as they are uncomfortable. So, I am putting foam and fabric to change the look and make them more comfortable.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Darla-I used to be a big worrier too, but I took a Stress Management class in college and one of the things it taught was that about 99% of the things we worry about never happen, so we waste a lot of time and energy on 1%. Wouldn't that time be better spent just living our lives and only worry when something actually happens. You know that is pretty much how I live my life now and it sure has helped a lot.
I have had a good day-went and took pics of the sinkhole before they fill it in, got the car gassed up for my running next week, then went shopping for my new medicine cabinet. Still have to get the faucets but want to see how tall they can go before I buy.

Hello Everyone!
I went to WW today and lost half a pound! lol But at least it was a loss! We were talking about all the fun things you can do without food. So I ask one of my friends if she would like to go to the Zoo some sat and we are taking her 2 year old grandson! It only cost $8 to get in so I think it will be fun! My daughter takes my granddaughter all the time! I also have a church here in town that has free Zumba classes either 2 or 3 nights a week. So I am going to start going to those and a few other days do the sweatin to the oldies. I will start with just the Zumba classes for a while until I get use to exercising again. I just have to do something to speed up this weight loss.

I am reading a book by Dale Carnigie called "How to stop worrying and start living your life". There are 4 steps to solve a problem and stop worrying.

1. Writing down preciselyu what you are worrying about.
2. Writing down what you can do about it.
3. Deciding what to do.
4. Starting immediately to carry out that decision.

I think this will change so much for me since I tend to worry a lot like my Mom did. But it sure affected her health. Hope this helps others! Have a great work week everyone!

Good Morning:

Sixty, that mac and cheese sounds good. I haven't had it in years. Would you share your recipe? I made a Chinese stew for dinner yesterday using many veggies from my garden. Vic loves it and so do I. As far as rice and pasta go, I've been using brown rice and whole wheat pasta for over a year now. It is better for you. Vic doesn't care for either (he likes the white rice and 100 % semolina pasta, but he eats what I put in front of him.

Today I'm hoping to finish my mystery. I keep saying that every day and don't do it, but I've a mind to finish today. It's a book by Martha Grimes: THE MAN WITH A LOAD OF MISCHIEF.

Stay cool and be well,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I just finished making a triple - batch of mac & cheese. I saved enough for two-3 sides out for DH and myself. The rest is in the crockpot - ready to go to a church carry-in. I was specifically asked to bring this. Several others are taking items such as lasagna. The rest is pot-luck. We have a missionary we sponsor visiting us. He and his family have been in Africa for years.

I only ate cereal for supper yesterday. We had a fairly healthy lunch that included a quarter pound hamburger with cheese and only the bottom half of the bun. We see what I weigh by tomorrow.

It has been another hot and muggy day down here. I didn't get an early start-still nursing my side-think it is something pulled from my starting the weights but trying to take it a little easy for the weekend.
I went downtown to the weekend market with a friend this morning and we got fresh veggies. This afternoon I spent nearly 3 hours in the pool so got in a nice workout-I never quit moving when I am in the pool. I didn't swim any laps as I was afraid it would pull too much on my side, but I used the weights.
We went out to eat with friends and had soup & salad and then we went to look at the big sink hole off Main St. The one corner of the building has fallen so far that all you see is the top of the roof. They are to start filling things in next week as it is moving and part of the street is falling and right now it is all fenced off. I was sorry I didn't have my camera so think I might go back tomorrow and get a couple of pics of it-first sinkhole I have ever seen in person.
We played some pegs and jokers this evening before calling it a night.

Hot, hot, hot here today in SW Missouri. Some areas did get rain, but we didn't where I live. I am going to be able to bring in some ripe tomatoes today, but my zucchini looks really sad even with watering. I think I may have enough to freeze another bag of them.

Last night I didn't sleep well. It always happens this way when I have to get up early in the morning. But I did wake up, shower, and go to my early Zumba class. It was an hour and it was, as always, a great workout. After I returned home, I had to take another shower after that workout. I feel better now. I have had some yogurt, juice, coffee and now ready to take on the day. Sometime during the day I am going to take a swim. Have a great Saturday!!

Hello Everyone!
Sorry you are not doing well Gail! I hope things get better for you and your husband! I had lost 62 pounds but when Mom started getting worse I started eating wrong and gained back half of it and still struggling to get back on WW. But I am starting a weight loss journal today and going to get up early enough every morning to do my Sweatin to the Oldies DVDs! my kids and I loved them when they came out! They are tough but a lot of fun!

Pat that is so great you are taking care of him. Sorry you have not seen your real Dad. My step Dad is still alive but proubly not for a long time. He is 72 and not in good health either and I can't talk to him much . He was real inappropriate with me on the phone the other day so I think it is better I don't talk to him much. I am glad you take some time for yourself too and hope your husband does better.

Welcome to anyone that is new on here! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good Morning;

We've got rain in the forecast for the next couple of days. Good...then I don't need to water the garden.

I'm so happy I picked my first little tomato yesterday. I was a bit overenthusiastic because it's not quite ripe enough, so it will sit on the counter for a couple of days. I'm making a Chinese stew today using broccoli, snow peas from the garden.

Had a good food day yesterday and am so thankful for that. I've gained and am approaching my highest weight. I'm trying to get a handle on things. The fact that I can barely move, let alone exercise, isn't helping.

Stay well and do good things,

Gail

Good Morning Team!

I have had a busy few days. Yesterday, we took DD & DGD to Indy International airport. Ended up in somewhat of a traffic jam - but didn't have to stop.
DH & I found a steak house to stop at and sit out the rest of rush hour.
I couldn't believe how much DH ate. I ate less than half what he did, brought home a take out box of leftovers. And, I still feel full this morning. I haven't eaten that much in a long time.

Today, we go to a family reunion of sorts. Just the families of my two brothers. My own kids are now all out of state. I am taking a veggie salad using the produce from the CSA farm. I also have a chocolate zucchini bread loaf in the freezer that I will take. I hope this feeling of fullness lasts all day.

Many times when I was in a plateau, eating a heavy meal seemed to reset my metabolism and I started losing weight. I am hopeful this will work for me this time. But that isn't why I ate too much. The food was delicious.

Hi Team-Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Darla hope something comes thru for you. I know how difficult it is to lose your parents, especially your mother, I was just 19 when I lost mine and this is my step-father, but my dad was never there for me so I consider him my father. My real dad has been gone for about 35 years so not having my parents is not new but it will be a shock to the system when we do lost dad and I know it can't be many more years at his age.
I took DH to rehab early today-the staff had a meeting to attend but they didn't want to cancel the session so our day got started early. After that was done, we came home and got dad and took him to order new glasses-he didn't want bifocals last year when we got him new ones, but now he has decided he needs them so they should arrive next week.
Had planned on going to the pool this afternoon, but it has been overcast (black at times) and thundering off an on and have seen a few streaks of lightning so no pool under those conditions Guess I will try to get there earlier tomorrow as it is to be the same thing again. Rain has gone all around us so hoping it gets here before it is all done.
Have a great weekend team.
Pat

Hello Everyone
Gail glad you are feeling a little better. Frosty I can't believe your Dad is 99! How wonderful to have had him so long! My Dad died when I was 11 and my Mom just died Feb 6th. Seems strange to have no parents now. I keep dreaming she is alive only to wake up and realize she is not. ONe of my best friends from age 5 now we are 46 her mother died this week and she worked at Sun Oil Company with my Dad! I don't think the men were too happy about that but I was sure proud of her! I have been on disablity for my Bipolar since 2002 but working full time now and was taken off. I got a letter from SS today and I Have to pay back over $5000 dollars! I was shocked! I will get iit all paid back somehow along with my student loans. I have applieed for a great paying job working with soilders who are in rehab at Tinker AFB here so keep me in your prayers! I also have another one at a mental health clinic in OKC working with kids and that would also pay better than I am making too I think. I am just ready to get back into my field. I have a bachelors in FAmily Studies and a Masters in Human Relations! So hopefully my education will help! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I woke up and went to water aerobics class this morning and then took a walk. It is hot and I heard some thunder, while walking - but no rain! On my way back from my walk, I stopped at the dollar store to get things like off brand Pepto Bismol and the like since all of it is only $1 and works just as well as the name brands. I am making a healthy salman dinner this evening. Have a good day, everyone!

Good Morning:

It rained here this morning and I'm so glad; that means I won't have to water. A garden neighbor gave me a kohlrabi, plus I got my first 2 cukes, some green beans and some snow peas. The cuke I had last night was very good, but the skin was bitter. These were not pickling cukes and I had never had this variety before. The exciting news was that some of my tomatoes are starting to ripen. WOO HOO! I usually have to wait till the first or second week of August. It's the smaller varieties that are coming in.

I'm still limping but am walking better than yesterday and am very much more comfortable. It's 78 and partly cloudy now but will clear up this afternoon. The temperatures are supposed to get up to the high 80s low 90's. I'm planning to stay in and read.

Stay cool and drink lots of water,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Linda: Sounds like you had a wonderful morning with your husband. Where do you live that you can have a coffee seaside? I grew up on the east coast and really miss the ocean. We have lots of lakes in Wisconsin, but it's just not the same thing.

Good morning! I sat with hubby this morning drinking our coffee outdoors looking at the ocean. Started the day peacefully. Today I plan to swim and also have some household chores.

Have a great day!

Gail I hope you get some relief-better call that dr and make sure of what is going on.

I put on my skates and got going this morning-figuratively speaking! Dropped DH off at rehab and I headed to the gym and have upped my reps to 2 sets starting today so by the time I got done and returned to pick him up, he was waiting on me-what will he do when I go to 3 sets???
Finished my dusting I didn't get done yesterday and headed to the pool for an hour of me time. I do try to get there most days. Had to get home and eat a lite lunch as we had dinner plans and then I put together a chicken pot pie for dad's supper and made him some brownies. I know they aren't good for him, but he loves his sweets and at 99 and 130 lbs with no hint of diabetes, I think he deserves to have something he likes.
We finally got our act together after DH's hospital stay for his stents and have gotten our wills done and all the other papers one needs anymore. This afternoon the rep brought them out from the lawyer and we signed things, had them witnessed and notarized so I guess now we have things pretty much in order. DH never wanted to do it but finally realized it might be important.
We barely got done with all that and it was get dinner over to dad (I went early before 4) and he decided to go ahead and eat then so I got his milk and then it was rush home as we were going out with 4 other couples. We had a nice evening and was glad they weren't busy at the restaurant as we could sit and talk without thinking they needed our tables.
After we got back it was change clothes and out to water everything and check on dad before I could finally take off the skates and relax for the evening. Now it is off to bed to get ready to do it all over again tomorrow!!!

Good Morning:

It came to me last night that I have a severe muscle cramp in my left buttock and it still hasn't gone away. I think it was brought on by staying in one position for a long period of time. Last night I put on a back brace. If I'm not better in an hour or two I'm calling the doctor. maybe something like Valium will help. UGH...I hate taking medications, but this pain MUST go.

Stay cool and hydrated.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Had 2 appointments for dad today-had to get his blood drawn this morning but in my rush to get him there by 8 am, I forgot to take his lab orders so left him there in his wheelchair and rushed back home to get them-thank goodness it is close to our house. They had problems getting his blood and had to stick him twice before they were able to get it.
Got a little housecleaning done but my D-I-L finally called to tell me she was pregnant with #7. I knew it because she put it on FB and I had decided to let her know how hurt I was she hadn't called to tell me before announcing it to the world and asked her how she would feel if her sons did something like this to her when they get married so hope she thinks before trying to hide something from me. Said he mom had yelled at her and then she was afraid to call me! I didn't yell, but did express my hurt and told her I had had no plan to call her since I wasn't important enough to hear it firsthand. Think after 2 hours we got it hashed out!
I was cleaning with a vengance while I was talking.
After I finally got off the phone, I headed to the pool to de-stress for an hour - that was all the time I had as I had to take dad to the opthamologist at 3. That was another trip-got there and he hadn't worn his glasses under his sunglasses and I didn't think to ask him-was sure he knew he needed them but he didn't so had to make another trip home to get them! Oh well, what would life be like without a little excitement.

Good Afternoon:

I spent about an hour and a quarter picking and watering my garden. A garden neighbor grew turnips and beets and she doesn't use the greens so she gave them to me. (I can't imagine growing organic veggies and not utilizing every bit.) I brought the greens home along with today's batch of beans, a few snow peas and a zucchini from my garden. I ran an errand and then got busy cleaning, steaming and freezing the veggies. I also cooked up 2 lbs of bacon and froze that. What a job! I started at 8:15 and finished at 2pm with just a breather for lunch.

My back is still killing me, but it is a wee bit better. I rested, napped a bit with my feet up, and just got out of the shower. Time to settle down with a book for a while.

Please stay hydrated and keep cool.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hello Everyone!
All the veggies you all are getting out of your gardens sound wonderful! I should go to the Farmer's Market here and get some fresh veggies and fruits. Everyone seems to not be feeling very well. I hope each of you start feeling bettter. i Have high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea and high tryglerides and Bipolar. So I take a lot of medications for all of it. My Bipolar has been stable for 11 years so i am very happy about that! But my other health problems make me so tired all the time that it is hard for me to even function sometimes!

I have applied for a better paying job working with soilders who are rehabilitating. I hope I at least get a interview!

I am very excited about my trip! I am stopping in Dallas to see my brother and his girlfriend and eating out supper with them. Then headed to San Antonio to see Chris my son and his wife Caitlin. I have not seen them since the wedding so i am excited about spending the weekend with them! He is going to cook on the grill for me! He is a great cook! I taught both my kids how to cook! Hope everyone has a great day!

Another day of running-got up early and got my ironing done-didn't have a lot to do so only took about 15 min. Then it was on to check on dad and off to take DH to rehab and I headed to the gym for about 75 min. I had a problem with my right side-I must have done too much in the pool yesterday but it seems a lot better tonite so hoping by Wed I can do more.
Had to do some paperwork when I got home and I got dad cleaned up and ready to head to dentist this afternoon. We all had a bite of lunch and then it was off to dentist about 1. DH also saw the dentist and now he has to decide if he wants to get new dentures since he can't get his relined again. Dad is going to get new lowers so will take him for his impression on Thur and to pick them up Mon afternoon.
Dad wanted a cone from McDonald's so stopped for one on the way home-his treat. Hopefully it wasn't too bad of a treat-I think they get smaller all the time.
After I got dad back home, I got my suit and headed to the pool for another workout. I got in about 75 min and then had to rush to get some supper ready-dad likes to eat at 5!
I wish we would get some more rain-had hopes the tropical disturbance in the Atlantic would bring us rain but it actually is drying us out-our humidity dropped to 49% today so it was quite pleasant out.
Well it is time for bed so I can have another busy day tomorrow.
Listening to everyone with their abundant produce makes me sad we can't have much here but DH's watermelon plant is blooming so maybe we will manage to get 1 or 2 off of it before cold weather.

We have had cherry tomatoes in our own yard & from the CSA farm.
But this evening we cut up our first full sized tomato from the farm - delicious. They never have ones that taste this good in the grocery.

My daughter told me to freeze tomatoes the way Challenger suggests - I haven't tried it yet.

Gail, I cored, quartered, and froze. The particular post that I saw said that when I use them, the skins will come off and I can choose to discard...

Good Afternoon:

We too are having a heat wave which started yesterday. It went to the very high 90s yesterday afternoon but was a mere 81 in the morning. I went to pick from my veggie garden and thought there would be just a few things: NOT. I wound up with two large plastic grocery bags of lettuce, egg plants, Swiss chard, snow peas, green beans and parsley. I was drenched after 45 minutes when I called it quits. The worst part was picking beans and I suffered all afternoon, all night and today. Even 3 ibuprofen didn't help much. What back-breaking work. Next time I need to kneel, squat or sit when I pick. Bending over is just not the way to go.

I got my hair cut and a pedicure at the local beauty school today. I had a card for a free cut, so the bill came to $10. Not to shabby and it was a nice treat.

I just awoke from a 3.5 hour nap and feel so much better. Sitting with my feet up is the best postition to relieve the pain, so I'll go back to my chair and foot stool.

Stay hydrated
Gail

CHALLENGER75: How do you freeze tomatoes? I wash and dry each one, and then I put them in a plastic bag with a twister. Just like that I put the sack in the freezer. After they are frozen I pull them out as I need them and run warm water over the tomato. The skin comes right off. You can use the tomato for any cooked dish, soup or salsa. Plum shaped tomatoes are best for making sauce. You can use the others, but you need to get rid of so much water in the tomatoes. I used to drain the water as much as possible and throw it out. They I decided to use the tomato water in soup. YUM.

Pat: I'm so proud of you with all the exercise you're getting in. You go girl!

Darla: A safe and fruitful trip to Texas this week.

Enjoy each day.

Hello Everyone!
It is really hot here in Oklahoma. Triple digits for 29 days in a row! We really need some rain! I went to WW and gained .4 because I ate pizza Sat night! ugh! I watch Suze Orman and Gail's shows on CNBC Sat. night. Both are really good shows and I have learned a lot about finances and money by watching them. I was reading one of Suze's books this weekend.

I am going to San Antonino leaving friday and coming back sunday and stopping in Dallas to see my brothers and his girlfriend. well take care. Have a great work week!

Hi, all!

I froze some grated zucchini today for miniloaves this winter. That helps me with portion control and they are also good for little "I was thinking of you" gifts. I also froze some tomatoes before they ruined. I read posts elsewhere on spark that this could be done so thought I would try it! I am ready to make some bread crumbs out of some bread that is past its prime. So I am feeling frugal already today!

We had a cool down today-only got to 88! Looks like we might stay about 89 tomorrow with it going back to mid 90's by Wed unless the distrubance out in the Atlantic kicks up and who knows what then! We are just hoping for some meaningful rain.
I went to the pool twice today so got in about 2 1/2 hours of workout in there. Even got DH to go with me the 2nd time down.
I am happy I was able to get my medicine at Target-Wal-Mart didn't have it in stock anymore-have been getting it for years, so they told me I might want to transfer it somewhere else - so I did. Think I will move my other medicine too and that will be that.

It's 10:30 here and so far only 84 degrees. Only supposed to get up to 92 today with only a 20 percent chance of rain, which in Albuquerque translates to "there will be no rain today." It would be nice to make it to a full inch of rain before the year ends...guess we'll just see how that goes...

There was much rejoicing!
