Good Morning:

I went for my PT yesterday and got two exercises that I have to do every day. It's under 15 minutes a day and I'm sure I'll stick to it. The only thing is I'm not certain I'm doing one of them correctly. I'll have to have Vic check what I am doing and match it against the instructions and pictures. The therapist told me that stress heightens pain and he has plenty of patients...women...who are barely getting through the day as sole caregivers, usually for an ailing spouse.

We have no plans for the 4th, but a few hamburgers on the grill sounds good.

Enjoy the day.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning:

It's been thundering this morning and it just started to rain. Woo Hoo! I don't have to water the veggie garden.

Yesterday I went to the coop to pick something up and found beautiful organic bananas and tomatoes in the "reduced produce" bin. I asked why the tomatoes were reduced and was told that someone accidentally put them in with the non-organic tomatoes and they didn't know what to do with them so they reduced them. The tomatoes were gorgeous and the bananas were perfect. I paid about the same or less than I would pay for non-organic items.

Going for PT this afternoon, my first session. I'm hoping I can get more range of motion in my left arm. Since I had the cortisone shot three weeks ago I've had no pain.

Enjoy the day.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning:

Nothing planned for today but we are expecting the nurse to stop by to see how Vic is doing since he has come back from the hospital.

Helena, our DD stopped by yesterday to spend some time with Vic and me. She brought me a great gift. As you may know I"m only 5'2" and cannot reach the top shelf of my cupboards. (Even the rear of the middle shelf presents challenges.) She found a collapsible foot stool that is sturdy and stable. When closed it takes up hardly any room so it's convenient to store. I've got it in the cupboard below the kitchen sink. She picked it up at T J MAXX.

I understand there is a new Salvation Army Thrift Store on the other end of town and just might make a trip over to look around. Virtually everything I get for myself I get at a thrift store, most often from the clearance rack. The local Savers that used to have 99 cent specials on Mondays has discontinued that practice. Too bad. I really liked that.

Enjoy the day, everyone.

Gail

Pat: The chemo must be interfering with Vic's taste buds because he didn't particularly like the Moussaka. Until recently he was VERY fond of it. Helena and I polished it off.

It's good you're getting some exercise in and that your dh has a good attitude. I had to put our gym membership on hold last week because it was clear that Vic couldn't manage it. Also, he shouldn't be in enclosed spaces with lots of people. It's too easy to pick something up. I'll have to figure out something else. So far, gardening seems to be good.

Enjoy each day.

Gail, I am glad to hear Vic is doing better-prayers are being answered. Good luck tomorow with PT. I love the mousaka-DH likes it better than lasagna now.
We are starting to get the much needed rain as our rainy season is finally kicking in so I have to adjust my schedule now to go to the pool late morning but I am going to make it all work. DH has made it thru 2 sessions of rehab and told me he set things up to give it a bit more of a workout today. Maybe he will get into this yet.
Have a wonderful evening.

Good Morning:

Our HMO calls us a few days before an appointment to remind us and confirm the appointment. Last evening I got a call to remind me of my Friday afternoon PT appointment. Whew! With all that is going on with Vic I didn't write it down and I forgot all about it. Thank goodness for small favors. It takes weeks to get the initial appointment. BTW, since the doctor gave me a cortisone shot a few weeks ago I have had no pain in my shoulder, though I still have limited range of motion. That's what the PT is for.

It's another beautiful day here and i hope to go to the garden and get in a walk.

All the best to you all.

Good Evening:

Woo Hoo...Vic didn't need a transfusion today. Whew.

He's feeling much better and his appetite has been good over the past couple of days. Tonight we're having moussaka. I make it in two pans and freeze one. Tonight we're having the frozen version.

Enjoy the evening. I hope the weather is as nice where you are as it is here: 78F, sunny and low humidity.

Hi everyone-sounds like everyone has some issue they are dealing with but we are tough and we will all make it. I am so happy we have this forum to vent a little. It helps to be able to talk even if it doesn't solve our problems.
Darla I am glad your son told you before you got moved down there. I think it would be hard to live with either of my sons so pray I never have to do that but other folks do just fine. Even having my dad here to care for, he doesn't live with me-makes double work taking care of another place but it keeps peace in the family!
We have finally been getting a little rain and as you know every little bit helps. That means I am not having to spend so much time watering the "weeds" every evening.
I am so thrilled with my new tile floor in the living room. I don't know why it feel cleaner to me, but it does. Down south I just do not like carpet, all it does is hold the sand!
Tomorrow will be 2nd day of rehab for dh. I go to The Wellness Center while he is there and after the 1st session, that seemed to work out for us so hoping that continues. I walked this morning and it was so muggy out there. My poor little Abbie was panting hard so didn't have her walk as far as I usually do. No sense in causing her to collapse.
Time to get dinner so signing off for now.
Pat

Gail I am so happy to hear that Vic is doing better. Keeping you in my prayers.

Linda: Could it be related to a vision problem?

Sixty: Oh, is it ever hard to stay out of the fray when tempers are flaring. At least you'll wow them with your new haircut. Maybe it will distract them enough to "cool it".

Off and on I am having some internet issues. I had an appt with my cardiologist early this morning. I am still trying to determine what is causing my dizzy spells. The doctor said it may be a drug interaction so I am on a drug holiday for 6 or 7 weeks when I will see him again. But I also made an appointment with my GP and will see him on Friday. I am going to check with both of them to find out what's up. Hope you are all having a great day.

Today was a good day. I have been saving to get my wedding pearls restrung and the extras added. It had been made as a choker in the 1950's as a wedding present from my DH, but no longer look good, so I finially had enough in my coin jug to get them restrung to about 18inches in time for my 57th anniversary.

We are home finally. It was good to see everyone and BIL. He is now walking on his own and doesn't need chemo or radiation. He started his physical Therapy today. He will go 3 x a week for 6 weeks. We are very happy that it is out. The surgery staff named it " The Baby" it was 13" long 8" wide and 3" thick. The doctor said it was the largest she has take out so far.
My BIL weight 212 when he went in and less then a week later he weight 201. Some was weight loss but, the rest was the tumor.

If you find a lump any where get in and see your doctor. If they say to wait don't! Go get a second opinion. If my BIL had done so to begin with I don't think it would of gotten so big.

Again, Thank you all so my for everything. Prayer is stronger than we all know.

Hello Everyone,
Thanks for the comments. I do understand more than he thinks. And the last thing I want to do is be a burden to my kids like my Mom was me. But I do have another option I am thinking about. My Step Dad said my Mom wanted me to have their house in Odessa Texas. It is 3 bedrooom, 2 bath with a garage and back yard. It use to be a pretty good neighborhood but not sure now. There is a school not far from there. It would take some work a lot of work to even clean out the crap that is in it and I would have to replace the carpet and probly redo both bathrooms and paint it. Not sure what else. I plan to call my step dad tonight and ask him more about it. Icould get my LPC there too. Licensed Professional Counselor. I just have a few more classes and another internship. I would rather work in Texas than Oklahoma. I have a brother here that is very powerful and has a lot of money. He has even talked to lawyers about me and my kids! He is just lost his mind completely! I can't be around him anymore. He is too dangereous to me and always threatening me. The oldest one was in prison for attempted murder of his girlfriend! They are all very controlling and abusive but one of them I do get along with. He doesnt try to tell me what to do anymore. So not sure what to do. Just need a better paying job somewhere!

take care. Darla

OK, so I'm crazy, but I wouldn't mind living with my kids if I could assure their privacy. Some homes have an adjoining "mother-in-law" suite or guest house.

Sixty: Yes, water can cause real trouble for drivers. Our weatherman here in Madison warned that we should not drive through water unless we could clearly see the bottom of the puddle. It doesn't take much to float a car and a lot of people lose their lives by driving during flash floods.

Good Morning Frugal Friends emoticon

Good to see all of your messages.
I may have misspoken previously. We have had small stream flooding. Rivers are high, but I don't know of any damage to homes. Some people may have water in basements. The problem creates issues driving safely. Sometimes the streams are flooded over roadways in such a way that your car could stall.

The water has created more problems for farmers than anybody. Usually, corn is shoulder high by the fourth of July. It is suppose to be at least "knee High." I don't think much of it is even ankle high - if it got planted at all. Corn is a major product in Indiana. I am sure we are not the only state with a problem. Poor corn production will effect the prices of meat and a lot of processed foods, etc.

Hello Everyone!
I have slept all day Sat and Sat night! I didn't take my Bipolar meds Friday and stayed up til 6 am Sunday and finally got up at 11 today! But I feel so much better! Went to WW Wed and did not gain and went back today and lost 5.2 pounds since Wed! So happy!~ I have gained a lot of weight back with Mom dying and just have to keep pressing forward. Applied for a job in San Antonio but today my son said I could not live with him and his new wife! Made me so very angry at him! So I will just have to save the money to rent an apt and do it that way. I should have spanked his butt more as a kid but was trying not to so that since my Mom was so abusive to me. Guess I messed up! He will be 27 in Aug!

Gail - So glad Vic is home and doing better. You and him are always in my prayers! Please keep us posted as we all love and care about you both!

Kurt- Glad to hear from you and glad you have a job! I am stuggling to to pay my bills and even bought some beans and rice to eat today! But my bills are paid for the month!

Hope everyone has a good work week! Just washing clothes! Have a good everning!

Vic is doing so much better. It's a beautiful day here and I got him to go out and have a little walk. He spends entirely too much time lying on the sofa. As long as he's better it's best to get him moving so his muscles don't atrophy.

Went to the garden to pick broccoli leaves (last year a friend told me that they are like collards or other greens...very healthy), and a quick trip to the market. This variety of broccoli greens is so tender and has a mild taste.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy evening.

Gail

Good Evening:

I got in a 2.5 hour nap today and boy, did I need it. Things are quiet, Vic hasn't been running a fever and he isn't moaning and groaning....thank God. It's me feel so good when he feels good.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words and prayers.

Lots of love,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I have been going on about our hot weather and how bleak and burned everything is. I neglected to mention that much of our dead greenery was due to a couple of days of freezing weather. Very cold. I lost Boston Ferns that were covered, and I have never had to cover before. My tropical plants all went even though covered. All ground cover died and my geraniums all died. Most unusual and led to our moonscape here.

The Monument fire is now contained and the last evacuees are now allowed to go home. A might blessing.

Gail so glad to hear you got to bring Vic home-prayers are still coming for both of you.

I am doing the happy dance tonite-we finally got some much needed rain. Gave us a teaser about noon and rained about 10-15 min but about 2 we got a downpour for about 20 min and then a nice rain for the next 2 hours so I don't have to go water tonite. It even cooled us down to 75 so I am enjoying the break.

Looking forward to next week when we get into a routine for DH and myself-he will do the rehab and while he is there I will go to the Wellness Center. Once we get our routine down it will be a lot easier to figure out the rest of our schedule. I still have dad to care for and my work with the flowers and a couple of committees I am on besides the usual work to take care of everything at home and dad's so it won't be dull for sure and I think our pool may be open later in the week-woo hoo-it has been down for repairs for 4 months and with this heat we have really missed it. We will use it on the days we don't work out.

Gail - glad that you brought Vic home from the hospital. I hope he is having a good day.

This morning I went to Curves and did the Zumba class. Worked out early for an hour. It was a good way to get some energy this morning, although, I was tired when I first woke up. Looks like a good day in spite of housecleaning which is in my schedule today.

Gail, I hope Vic continues to improve.

Glad to see Kurt posting this weekend.

I have been busy all month. We have had a lot of storms, so sometimes keep the computer turned off. As a result, I don't get on for very long some days. I try to post some of my meals, and really need to post all of them.

I just took my dose of generic Fosamax. I have to sit or stand up straight for an hour before I can eat. Twice as long as some people because I have gastric reflux issues. This pill is only once a week, thank goodness. I started it last Saturday.

At 8 a.m., I have to take a CPR class. so this isn't exactly a quiet Saturday.

Yesterday, we picked up our CSA food. We split a share with our daughter. Foods that we pick up - many times the quantity is enough for 4 small servings, but there are quite a few choices. There had been a lot of large heads of lettuce in the past. This week, we each got only on small head, but they offered optional "lettuce scraps" that were not as nice. I took quite a few for DD & for us. I think we can sort through it and get an extra day or two of lettuce. Also, got pea pods, appropriate for stir-fry. they aren't mature enough to take out of the pods yet. There were about six items, plus another six optional items. I got quite a bit of basil. I plan to make pesto.

Gail, I just got caught up on here and read about Vic so praying hard for him tonite and you too. It isn't easy keeping up when your spouse is in the hospital.
Been busy at home-got the tile in the living room. Been going to The Wellness Center and dad wasn't doing so good for a couple days but doing better today-was well enough to come over for his shower this morning.
DH goes into hospital tomorrow to get set up for the cardiac rehab which I believe will start on Mon. I am still fighting to get his supplies for his bi-pap machine. What a joke - have been working on that for almost 6 wks. His old supplier lost their medicare contract but neglected to tell us so when we called for supplies they gave us the run around for a couple of weeks and I called the dr and found that out! Then they set us up with a new company, but they are dragging their feet saying they don't have all the paperwork so I called dr again and they said they were never notified they needed anything more so....I have been on the phone everyday with them for past 2 weeks trying to get this resolved and will be on there again tomorrow.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Kurt it was good to hear from you again and glad your life is getting back on track.

Good Morning:

First and foremost, thank you all for your prayers and support. You are all very special friends, indeed. It's so comforting to know that there are others out there who care.

I was at the hospital for 9 hours yesterday. Vic was not feeling so well earlier in the day, but by the time I left he was better. However, that being said, his temperature was up late in the evening. Until he is normal for 24 hours I don't want him home. I just know his fever will go up again as it did Tuesday, and then I'll have to take him to the ER late at night. It took an IV with an antibiotic to bring his fever down.

I have not read the posts in the past two days, but hope to go back and read them in detail as soon as I get a chance.

Hugs for you all,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

I know I haven't checked in much, but I'm still alive and working.

One of the frugal things I have done:
I got TV dinner trays and put together 10 homemade frozen TV dinners (a lot healthier), so it's easy to eat something when I get home, which is usually almost 10:30 pm.
I prefer to use the oven because I don't use a microwave.

One exercise thing I have done:
I have to walk a half-mile to the train, then a half-mile from the train to get to school. Then I have the reverse trip back home. So, I get in at least two miles every school day.

I work nine hours a day, five days a week, so things are getting better financially, but not everything is "normal" yet -- I'm sure it will get there eventually.
There are just so many things that I had to put off buying (food staples for the pantry, vitamins, eyeglasses, etc. -- not frivolous things), and now I have to try to schedule if and when I can replace them. That's going to take a while.

But, the bottom line is the dog and I are both healthy, so we're doing well.

oh Gail I am so sorry to hear that! I will keep both of you in my prayers! Keep us up to date on how he is doing! Bless your hearts!

I had a hysterectomy last year in May 2010 and now medicare won't pay for hormones so my hormones were $82 which I can't afford so I ask my pharamicist and she turned me to a over the counter med that is mostly vitamins and minerals and it is $7 for a 30 day supply so how is that for frugal! It works great! I am finally cool today and in a better mood too! So glad I found it!

I am weighing in tonight at WW. My leader teaches on Sunday at 2 when I usually go and tonight at 6. I miss most of the meeting because I get off at 6 but I get some of it and at least get to talk to her! I am stil not doing well with it but bought some Tyson breaded chicken breasts and some frozen broccli and cheese and have been eating it and some bananas for breakfast so trying to get the fruits and veggies in. Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning:

I'll try to get back to you later but here's an update from yesterday.

I took in for his weekly blood test. His numbers were poor so they gave him 2 pints of blood. Also, he spoke to the doctor about the shoulder pains and when they took his temperature they found that he had a fever. Fever means infection, so they gave him an IV with an antibiotic. His fever came down to normal, so they sent us home. We were gone over 6 hours.

At home he began to feel miserable again, and seemed to be getting worse and worse. Finally, I told him to take his temperature. He told me it was 102. (I later learned it was 102.8) He didn't want to do anything, but I called the chemo center and the doc on call told me to bring him to the ER. They gave him fluids, more IV with antibiotics, and admitted him. When I left he was looking and feeling a whole lot better. I got home around 1:30am and by the time I got to sleep it was well passed 2am. I just got up and will be heading out to the hospital just as soon as I shower and grab some coffee.

Thanks a million for your prayers, concern and kindness.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Shrivers- Great news on your BIL!!! So happy prayers were answered and he is doing so well!

Frosty sounds like a good routine to have!

60- I have learned a lot from watching Suze's show and reading her books. The first thing is to have a 8 month emergency fund and be saving for retirement. And if you own a home concentrate first on having it paid for by the time you retire. I raised my kids in 3 bedroom rent houses but now that they are grown I only rent a one bedroom apt and want to get rid of some of this stuff even since I have lived here for 5 years! Her last book Money Class is really good and gave me a lot of hope that I still have some time to get it all together. I have Bipolar, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, High Trglcerides and Sleep Apnea but I am treating all of it and have a stress test to do sometime to make sure my heart is okay. My mom had all of that and heart disease and COPD also so I am really going to start focusing better on what i eat and I think I may join the YMCA again so I can swim every day. Swimming is my families favorite thing to do and even my granddaughter who is 3 also loves to do it! Suze's show is really fun to watch. she has people call in on this segment called Can I Afford It? She makes sure they have a 8 month emergency fund and no credit card debt. She either approves it or denies it and I am so shocked sometimes at what people call in to buy especially after seeing their money! lol I don't have any credit cards at all so I own everything I have except my new used car. I learned at a church I went to to pay cash for everything and save for what you want. My main debt is my car and my student loans but I have a great education with 3 college degrees so hopefully it will all pay off someday. I have a possilbity of a job in San Antonio but it just depends on if it pays more than I am making. I am just really concerned about my sales job with OfficeMax as it is based on sales and since that depends on businesses buying it is hard to tell if I will get a commission check or not. So far I have been lucky and got one but several people did not get one at all this time and that scares me to death! Plus i was on disabilty and it is gone now but I couldn't make it on $700 a month anyway. I think it wil all be okay. Now my kids are grown and doing well so it is just me to take care of and my cat! Now that I don't have to worry about my Mom and know she is safe in heaven I can finally have my own life and just enjoy my kids and grandkids! Hope everyone has a great day!

Srivers-good news on your BIL-prayers are being answered.

DH went to pick dad up to take him for coffee and donuts at the clubhouse this am and he wasn't feeling good, so I checked on him as I was walking around the park. He didn't look too good either so I wanted to take him to the Clinic to get him checked out and he didn't want to go so I told him I suspected he was dehydrated so told him if he didn't want to go, he had to make an effort to get at least 6 glasses of water today so he did and he is feeling better tonite. Now my job will be to keep him drinking. Hoping he realizes how important it is now.

I went for my assesment this afternoon and it turned out better than I thought it would. I know that I do a lot so even thought I am overweight, I am still fairly fit. I didn't get thru my complete run thru on the machines since they scheduled a staff meeting at the last minute and my attendant had to go to that so I have to go back tomorrow afternoon and we will finish what we started. She put me on a recumbent bike and I did 45 min on it-rode 7.5 miles and burned 375 calories so it wasn't a total washout. I was a little upset at first but am glad I am finally in and that before long this will just be routine!

Have an awesome week everyone.

Sounds like many of you have some positive news.

Darla - You might be our resident expert on Suzy Orman. Do you have any tips?

We went to Fort Wayne yesterday in the rain. The temps never made it to the forecasted 90s. Barely past 70. They have revamped the forecast for the rest of the week.
I found a plastic coated trifold with pictures of common birds in our area. My almost 8 year old grand-daughter is turning into an avid bird watcher - this summer any way. We are cleaning up an old bird feeder as DH got a new one for fathers day. We don't thing that our DGD will notice that it is used. We are giving her bird feed and a new shepherds hook to hang the feeder on.

Time for me to get off-line. Have a frugal day!

Hi All,

We just got even better news today after BIL saw the doctor. No radiation is needed at all. They got every bit of it. He will have PT to build the muscle up. We are all so happy. Just wanted to let you all know. He will have check ups 5 times a year and 1 PET and 2 MRI's a year for 5 yrs. which is a normal thing. My BIL is just jumping for joy, well not really but, inside he is.

Thank you again everyone!!!

I'm so excited, I think by this time next week we will both be going to work out in the a/c and that will GREAT! I go tomorrow for my assesment and DH goes on Thur for his and hopefully by next week we will be set up to go M-W-F to the gym. I also think I have the last paperwork done to get his new bi-pap supplies.
Tomorrow work starts on the living room floor. I wish DH was able to do these things as it would save us $$$ but we are lucky to have a friend who cuts us a deal on his prices so it is probably half of what we would have to spend otherwise. I do as much as I can around here but some projects are beyong my skillset.
Took dad to get his stitches out today. He isn't doing well and not sleeping and having a lot of pain in his side. The swelling is getting worse and he gets more stubborn by the day. I worry he may be going into CHF and if he continues having problems I will contact the dr and get him in sooner than his scheduled appt. He so wants to make it to his 100th birthday so hoping I can keep him going.

Fathers Day was a bit sad. My father and father in law are now deceased. However, I did celebrate with hubby. Monday has been a good day. I was able to go to the water aerobics class. Also paid some bills. Hoping to have a good and busy week. I have lots of exercise planned.

That is wonderful news Sandy! Prayer does work! Hope he continues to mend!

Frosty sounds like you have a lot of work to do but sure it will be wonderful!

Gail I understand missing your Dad. My Dad died when I was 11 in 1975 of a rare blood disorder called Amyloidosis. It is still very hard to treat and usualy fatal but they can do a liver transplant to prolong life. He only lived for 2 weeks and I sure miss him and my Mom now who died Feb6th this year but glad they are finally together again in heaven!

60 I have been wathching Suze Orman and Till Debt do us Part Every Sat night and I have read a lot of their books so I think I have a plan now. I will do better when I get throught my last classes to get my temp counseling license which I will do in San Antonio when I get down there. I have already called the college so I know I can do it. I hope a job opens in San Antonio will call back the one place that has a opening and send my resume to there. My lease is up in Sept so hopefully by then I will find something and can get moved close to my son and his wife. Then we can fly my daughter and granddaughter there more often to see us! I just need ot be close to them! Love them both so much and my new daughter in law and onery 3 year old granddaughter Maddie! It will all work out I am sure! Thanks for the encouragment! Hope everyone has a great day!

emoticon It is a little cloudy and dreary for 8 a.m. It is suppose to get into the 90s.
I am going to try to up my exercise today at the Y - per the advice of my doctors. I am going to the senior water aerobics class at 9, then the silver sneakers chair aerobics at 10:15. Chair aerobics is a bit of a misnomer. They march around the chairs a certain amount. It is mostly muscle strengthening and range of motion. I did each of these classes last week, but not on the same day.

FROSTY99
We haven't made any vacation plans this year either. We might be joining you on that staycation. The price of gas is finally dropping. So we will see. We might take a three hour trip somewhere. We have already done that once this spring - to attend a grandson's graduation. Any upgrading that our house will need at this point - will be DIY as long as we are able.

PENNY
Hope your leg is getting better. This isn't the time of year that you want to have to slow down. But I guess t hat is why we are more likely to be injured.

GAIL,
Thanks for the Father's Day comment.
I don't think I got online yesterday to say it.
It was a good day to reflect on some good times with our fathers or our father figures.

emoticon This afternoon - if I have any energy left after my exercise class - we will go to Fort Wayne to shop for a birthday gift for a DGD. The only places to shop here are Walmart [not much selection & I have found that some out of town stores are cheaper] or t he groceries and drug stores. The lack of shopping choices reduces spending, until we leave town.

Good Morning:

Have to bring the car in for a 3,000 mile oil change this morning. Will also have them repair a slow leak in one of my tires. This afternoon I'm going in to the cosmetology school for a $10 pedicure.

Yesterday our dd and sil stopped by with a pair of comfy shoes for Vic. They can be worn outdoors, are athletic slip-ons with adjustable widths and massage the feet. I got him some shorts and a pair of slip-on that are totally enclosed and can be worn in any weather. Unfortunately, while the shorts were perfect, the shoes were too large. I'm going to go back today to see if they have the shoes in one size smaller.

We had a quiet day and I bought some KFC as a special treat. I rarely give him that stuff. There's still a lot left so he'll enjoy some today too.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

emoticon FROSTY! YOU'LL LOVE IT WHEN IT'S ALL DONE. WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON OUR HOUSE SINCE WE RETIRED IN 05. I DIDN'T THINK IT'D TAKE SO LONG BUT I'VE HAD 2 MAJOR SURGERIES & BEEN IN THE HOSPITAL A FEW TIMES IN BETWEEN (FROM 4-8 DAYS AT A TIME) . THEN HAD TO HAVE SEVERAL WEEKS OF "HEALING" TIME AFTERWARDS SO THAT THREW A WRENCH IN THINGS . BUT, HOPEFULLY, THINGS HAVE IMPROVED & WE'LL GET THINGS FINISHED THIS YEAR. WE GOT RID OF ALL CARPET & PUT DOWN PERGO & CERAMIC TILE. MAKES CLEANING A LOT EASIER. JUST LACK ONE FLOWER BED TO WEED & THEN WE'LL MULCH & THAT'S FINISHED EXCEPT FOR THE GARDEN.

IT REALLY STORMED LAST NIGHT. HARDER THAN THE ONE THE NIGHT BEFORE & THAT ONE TOOK DOWN THE LAST PART OF THE TOP TO THE PECAN TREE. THAT FELL INTO THE NEIGBORS YARD. HAVE TO WAIT FOR THEM AS THEY HAVE A MEAN ROTTWELDER.

PULLED MY LEG OVER A WEEK AGO & IT'S STILL HARD TO WALK WITH IT. THAT'S SOMETHING I'VE NEVER DONE BEFORE & NEVER WANT TO AGAIN! HURT WORSE THAN ANYTHING.

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GOOD & SAFE DAY! emoticon

Hi Team-sounds like everyone is having a busy summer. Wish we could plan for a vacation but instead, we are doing a staycation this year and doing some things to our house instead. I had bought tile for our bathroom about 3 weeks ago and thought I got a deal as it was marked down by $1.89 a tile but yesterday I went into Lowes and it was down another $1.12 so I went back today with my receipt and got a little over $30 more off-how is that for being frugal. Should pay for my grout! We have purchased 4 new solar lights and put them out late yesterday so hopefully tonite we can see how they look. We also bought the new ceiling fan/light for our dining room and tile for our living room so have most of the basics bought and just have to come up with $$$ for it to all be installed. We want to have this all done before DH's son and wife come the end of Aug. We have been in our home for over 6 yrs and it has just been the past year that we have had the $$ to start doing a few things and it feels nice to get things done. We were lucky the former owners had done a lot to our home before we bought it so we didn't have to do much right away. We have a nice chandolier in the dining room, but it is always warm in there and uncomfortable so we decided the fan would be nice, especially if we sitting in there playing games. The carpeting in the living room is coming loose by the patio doors and needs replaced so we decided the tile would be a one time replacement and be a bit more expensive now, but won't ever need replaced. Our bathroom vanity is the original so that is our big project, install tile on the walls as I am constantly wiping them down and it is ruining the paint. Our faucet is not working too good so want to get that fixed and our medicine cabinet mirror is showing spots so thought while we are doing the bathroom, now is the time to update that too. We plan to keep our original cabinet but raise it about 6 inches and just put a new top on it to keep the cost down. So that will be how we spend our "vacation" money.

Good Morning Frugal Friends emoticon
Good to see some sun after rain almost everyday for a week.

This is my first "free" day this month. I would like to go shopping for my DGG birthday which is this coming Thursday. I am now four weeks post epidural. My back is now back to where I started. I am not sure how far I can walk.

I have been processing food received from the "Community Supported Agriculture" farm. My S-N-L brought it yesterday before picking up his little one. Half of the veggies are foods we are not very familiar with. My S-N-L formerly was a grocery produce manager. We are receiving fresh garlic bulbs & are not sure what to do with them. The ones in the store are already dry.

I am also getting "Garlic Scapes" which are the leafy garlic tops. They are much milder than the root. I am blanching it today, then freezing it for soups and stir-fries.

LINDA! emoticon
Your Zumba sounds fun. We are YMCA members. But we have to pay extra for some classes such as Zumba. They are offering all the classes that have fees - for free in July. I am going to try to sample of the the free-bee classes, such as Zumba.

Time to take control.

I hope you start seeing progress toward your financial goals. I hear that the class titled "Financial Peace University" is a good one - although costly to take. I have know a few people who changed their financial plans after taking the class. People who I thought were using good judgement.

SRIVERS & NANA041 emoticon
To bad we don't have any authority to balance the weather patterns everywhere. But we probably would disagree on the temperature. It got to 90 yesterday, lows in the low 60s.

We have had so much rain, that we have been having trouble controlling the ant population. My DH says that black licorice works. We are considering trying it.

Hello everyone,
Gail I know how you feel! I try to keep healthy things in my house so I don't do that but it is still so hard sometimes. I have 3 college degrees that was easier to get than losing this weight is! lol

I was looking online at some places I might be able to apply to in San Antonio. I just need to get down there so I can go forward with my life. I called the college today that I have just a few more clases to take to get my Licensed Professional Counseling Certification. Once I get that then I will make good money under supervision for 3 years then when I have my permenent license will make even better money. Then I will be able to pay off my debt and save for my retirement. I just don't want to end up with nothing like my Mom did. Plus I don't want to burden my kids any more than i Have to either.

Well hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning:

Yesterday was another very stressful day and I got into my nemesis, chips. I did that twice this week. UGH! I've got to prepare healthy things ahead of time so that I can reach for them when I need to put something into my mouth. Better yet, I need to come up with an alternative to eating when I am not hungry. Not easy....

Enjoy the day.

Gail

Curves is said to do the full range - however, two days a week I do Zumba at Curves. It is aerobic exercise and a lot of fun. I attended the class today and go back on Saturday for another class.

Hello Frugal Friends!

I have had a really busy few weeks. We have been through two graduations of grandchildren. One DD & her husband visited for ten days and just returned to Colorado. My seven year old granddaughter is staying with us the rest of the week. She sleeps in our computer room. She is having trouble settling down and asked me to "work" on the computer until she goes to sleep. So here I am. I have decided I have an awfully noisy key board.

I am going to try to record my food and fitness. Hopefully she will be asleep before I get done.

Hello Everyone,
Thanks Frosty ! I know when I get my last classes for my LPC and take the temp license exam I will make more money doing my 3 years of supervision. I really want to live close to my kids but not sure about the jobs in San Antonio either. plus I hate to start all over again and both my kids are so busy with their own families they barely have time to see me now! But with Skype and just living in Oklahoma close to my old friends is fun too. One of my friends has a plane and is getting her pilots license so we can go on trips with her sometime! That would be fun! I am sure everthing will work out the way it is suppose to.

I forgot to go to WW Sunday so going tonight to weigh in. we had 70m a hour winds last night a mini tornado and it did some damage to some businesses but my car was okay and my elec went out from 8 pm to 3 am so i really hate tornado season in Oklahoma! Hope everyone has a good evening.

Poppin in to say hi this afternoon. Took dad to the dermatologist on Mon and got his cancerous spot removed from his ear and now I am treating that twice a day and we will go get his stitches removed next Mon.
Trying to get DH and myself into the fitness mode-nurse at the hospital thinks he is a good candidate for cardiac rehab which medicare would pay for, but dr has to send the order which we are waiting on! Hoping he agrees as that will save us paying for 12 weeks. I am waiting for my dr to send in her approval for me to start at the Wellness Center and hoping it is soon as we are getting up at 6 am to walk and it is still hot and we come back dripping wet. I am just thankful that DH is willing to get up and walk that early. Today we walked, came home and ate breakfast, took showers and went back to bed!!! He slept till about 10, I got up about 45 min later as I had to go take care of things for dad and had a meeting at 10 and didn't get home from that till noon. If I can get all this lined up soon, we can exercise inside in the a/c and sleep a bit later which I think would be better for both of us. DH makes up with naps and many days I don't get one so I am wiped out by afternoon but keep pushing to get everything done.
I am working on some home projects too so that is occupying me-wanting to get a ceiling fan in the dining room and tile in the living room-it is that or new carpet and the tile will be less upkeep and easier to clean. Once all that is done, we need work in the bathroom, but have to do this over next 2-3 months to spread out the cost. I am trying to pick up some things as it goes on sale so I am ready to do each thing.
SRivers glad to hear surgery went went for BIL. Prayers are being said.
Darla is sounds like things are moving along-sometimes it just doesn't happen as quickly as what we think it should but if we are patient we usually find things happen exactly when it should.

Good Morning:

The early morning thunder storms woke me up. I'm glad it rained. Then I don't need to worry about watering the garden. Actually, I really need to get back there to thing the plants and pull the few weeds that have cropped up.

Take care, stay safe and keep cool.

Gail

SRIVERS: So HAPPY everything went well for your bil. That's wonderful news that they were able to get everything.

Linda: Good for you for getting to curves. I've heard about it. Does it work as well as aerobic exercise? It's good that you get in walking too. I've got the feeling they go hand in hand.

TOTHEFUTURE1: Good to see you posting. I must have missed you in the past. So sorry to hear about your flooding. What town do you live in? I spent a month in Australia some years ago and have great memories. I also have a travel friend from Tasmania. Finally, I read your last blog and had a good laugh. I've got to go back later and catch up on the other jokes. It's great that you post them. So many of us need something to put a big smile on our face each day.

Sixty: How goes it?

Darla and Nan: Hope your week is going well.

Enjoy each day.

All went well with my BIL's surgery. They got all of the cancer. We spoke with him tonight and he sounded great. He may go home tomorrow if, the doctor feels he is doing good.

Again Thank you all so very much for all the wonderful notes and prayers. They really helped.

Sandy

Today was a pretty low key day. I did go to Curves for the 30 minute circuit exercise. But it was pretty quiet after that. Although, I did do some housecleaning. Tomorrow will probably be more of the same.

Happy Wednesday!!

Today was a busy day. I went to the water aerobics group and also took a long walk with DH. I ate healthy. All in all a good day. But ended up with a headache. ugh!

I made a date loaf with the idea of taking it to the community garden on Sunday but terrible weather so no garden well you know what is coming next ... I ate it.
We don't get Suze in Au, at least IO have never heard of her.

Reading Suze Orman's new book Money Class and feel much better about things. I have been fighting bronchitis for about a week now and went back to the doctor this morning and got a shot and got some blood work done to just check everything. I also have a stress testscheduled sometime when I get the appt in the mail. Going back to work tom and just trying to get some things done in my apt. Going to Wal Mart after while to get some veggies and fruits and get back on track with my eating. Getting this weight off will help me in so many ways so I have to just keep plugging away at it! Hope everyone has a great day!
