Have friends over for a games night at your home.

Fun!

Playing with my grandson, nieces, and nephew. When I go to their houses, we can play their Wii, when they come to my house, we enjoy my backyard and the sprinklers. Also, watching old Disney movies with my grandson. They are all new to him, and that gives me fresh eyes for them, as well.

Yesterday was one of my days to take care of my parents again. Mom and I took a short walk in the fresh mountain air, and then had lunch over a hotly contested Scrabble game.

I walk in nature parks. If I am extremely extremely lucky this year, I will walk at the beach a couple of days in warm sand! Multiple community events and music venues are free in the summer and very well done. Churches and schools have free music events too. There is a steel drum concert at our local library Thursday...lol...I will probably go...imagine steel drums at the library...I love them both!

I've taken my kids to see my sister and her daughter. They live about 150 miles south of here on a railway line that is easy to travel. The tickets, with AAA discounts for the three of us, only cost $90 round trip! We stayed at my sister's house and bought groceries for the weekend as soon as we got off the train. Other than the tickets, and a bit for the food, I spent absolutely no money that weekend! :)

We are lucky in that DD has a job at a movie theater and can get us cheap admission sometimes. I also use the public library for a lot of my entertainment.

I lead a "Til Debt Do Us Part" support group, and we had a fantastic time tonight! We shared our success for the week, and some of our goofs but mostly a lot of laughter. These people always make me smile, but tonight was something else.

A year from now, I'll wish I'd started today.

This might sound totally awful, so I apologize in advance, but I believe fun is what you make it to be. So:

My dad is in final stage Parkinson's. He is fed through a tube. If he coughs while being fed, and you don't catch it fast enough it gets messy fast...so, the whole family was gathered for a Father's Day yard work party, and had just finished our BBQ (outside, since Dad can't join in on the good eats). I was feeding Dad, and, well, bragging that I was quick enough never to have gotten hit. So the sibs started kind of encouraging Dad to give it a good cough. Dad got that old devilish look in his eye, and started playing along.

I'm amazed I didn't get soaked, everybody was laughing so hard.

The mighty oak was once just a little nut that stood its ground.

We have great park systems here in the Cleveland area. My husband and I have been checking out hiking trails, and we like to bike too. We also have Lake Erie and there are some beaches we visit but we are careful when swimming in the lake. Oftentimes take a picnic lunch too.

I am on a summer break from teaching. I live in a rural area and many things are a distance away. With the cost of gas, I have been staying close to home and enjoying walks on the country roads, sitting outside with an iced tea, and reading! After a Minnesota winter like we had, I am enjoying the warm, breezy days at home. It is a treat.

The spring/summer gardens are beautiful here; so just walking by the water and by the gardens is a joy. Also, I buy magazines /books used which gives me lots of options for reading.

My 4yo granddaughter and her friends are a riot...I laugh alot and am amazed by their perceptions and enthusiasm...trying to have some rub off on me. She likes for me to go down the slide, catch her, and help her climb things (believe me, she doesnt need any help..we need extra eyes or we will find her up a tree for real).

A friend gave me a garden plot to gardern. Yesterday I went there and gardened with her. I bought plants from an Amish Nursery which was much cheaper than buying them in a secular nursery. It was a lot of fun. We sprayed each other with the garden hose when we were done for the day-- hot and sweaty.

At a recent TOPS meeting a friend talked of her week end She said they had been "Freesaling"
That is where you look for garage sales and Free from Craigs list and that type of thing and then go to the free openings of stores and have lunch--she said not only was it fun but her husband won a Free Tv at the store opening!!

Sounded like a fun day to us all!!! Thinking about trying this. :-)

With all the rain we've been having, it's still mud season here, so we're not doing much outside yet. I'm using up as much of my fabric stash as I can to make quilts for the new babies coming into the family.

We do have satellite tv and we were given a year of free Starz channels for a year. Some promotional deal. Anyway, I search through and find movies I think DH and/or I will like to watch some time. I record them and then when it's rainy (it always seems to be rainy) or it's Saturday night, I go through the list and we find one we'd like to watch. We have a lot on there we wouldn't otherwise watch, because we never travel to the nearest theater to watch them and we also never think to rent movies. We can see what we want, even those we don't want, anytime we want, we didn't pay any extra and we don't have to return anything.

I like taking my toddler grandson to the Farmer's market. He is a joy to watch and he is fascinated with all the new things like baby chicks. It is easy to find cheap adventures when looking at the world through the eyes of a toddler.

I really enjoy learning and teaching, so tutoring my grandchildren is really a joy.

Also, loving to read, I have been given the opportunity to review books for a magazine and also to edit manuscripts. I get books hot off the presses and sometimes "reader's copies".

We still have a Drive In movie theater. Currently they are still doing $10 a car. The 4 of us go see a movie (or two if we want to stay up) for less than we could go see it at the discount theater. If you're a night owl and can stay up for all 3 movies it's a great deal.

We like to go places with some sort of history and walk around. A lot of these are free or extremely cheap and some have been quite fascinating. I still love doing this in the neighboring towns around my Grandma's house in Arkansas. Most are near a river or lake and there is a walking trail with spots set up to stop and take in some type of scenery and read a tidbit of info on the history of the area. Some are more like hiking trails with lookout points up high. Some are little towns with antique and craft shops, you can find some really cute cheap stuff this way (as long as it isn't known as a tourist spot).
This year, we have a new activity we are looking forward to trying. It's called Geocaching. It's basically a treasure hunt. It is done worldwide, there are little treasures hidden everywhere, people even put them in their yards! Basically you use a GPS device to track the location, then you have to look for the cache (treasure) hidden there. Once you find it you sign a little guest sheet inside and check out everything people have put in it. You can take an item from it as long as you replace it with something yourself. They kind of remind me of mini time capsules! The website will tell you how difficult each one is to find so, if you are more adventurous you can look for harder ones, they can even be hidden underwater!
