Then the weekend - we have to leave for Ohio for the graduation of a grandson - different branch of our blended family.

I haven't gotten acclimated to all this heat. I am managing to get walking in at my mother's nursing home. tomorrow - at the YMCA.

I am going to start our JUNE CHAT early, so that it will be available. Not sure if I will be on line in the morning - depends on what time I wake up. It helps to follow the conversation.

Good morning:

I'm a bit sore from gardening yesterday, but will be fine with a couple of ibuprofen. Today I'll take it easy...for the most part. Our TimeBank is having a fund-raiser and I got an urgent call yesterday for food. I'll be sending over a cheese platter, crackers and a fruit platter. I don't have the energy to go to the party but will send a donation. I don't know how I could have possibly gotten through the past few years without the TimeBank; it's an invaluable community resource.

Besides a couple of hours of gardening yesterday I went to the gym, did a few laps and sat in the hot tub to relax. I hope to get to the gym again today to get on the elliptical or the treadmill.

Hope all is well with all of you.

Gail

Pat: Sounds like you had a very good day yesterday. So happy for you.

Enjoy each day.

I hope everyone had a good Memorial Day. We had a nice dinner at our clubhouse and a great ceremony to honor our troops and the flag. Very moving.
DH & I were up early for our walk and I made my food for the dinner in the morning (it was salads) and then I actually relaxed-read the newspaper, ate a lite lunch and then took a nap!
Tonite we water the flowers everywhere-home, park, dad's and then went down to the lake to watch the sunset. Beautiful sunsets there.

Good Morning;

I don't know if it's stress, age, or what but I seem to be tired and lacking in energy all the time. Yesterday I took a shower, washed my hair, brushed my teeth and made Moussaka. That was it. The rest of the day I watched TV in bed. I figure I'd better get a blood test to see if something else is going on.

It's gray and in the low 60's today. Such a lack-luster day. I went to the grocery before 7am this morning so thankfully that's behind me. It's a good day for reading and/or watching some TV. I really got to get out to the garden and hoe, lay down newspaper and put down the hay but I don't have the energy.

Hope you are all doing well.

Gail

The sun isn't quite up yet. emoticon
We have had so much rain that it is sitting in some spots in our back yard. I don't think it is getting under our house. We went to our granddaughter's graduation yesterday. On the way, we saw farm fields that had crops just coming up and were flooded. This is not going to be a good year for buying fresh produce - expect the prices to be driven up.

The graduation was really nice. At the end, all the grads formed a big square around the auditorium and had a candle lighting ceremony while their class song was played on a CD.
Very sentimental.

Good Evening:

I've been dragging all day. I got up at 4:30am and though I haven't done much, that was a very bad idea. I should have forced myself to stay in bed at least another hour.

Hope all is well with all of you and you are enjoying the day. Remember, each day is a gift.

You made a good decision that's not coldhearted at all.
Too many people want things without making an effort to earn them -- and it's not just money, but also respect and friendship.
I don't understand why people don't realize that they have to work toward those things.

BTW, all internet browsers now have settings to enlarge the type on the screen.
If anyone out there is vision impaired, just change the setting to 200% or more.

emoticon A FRIEND JUST CALLED AND IT WAS 45 MIN OF COMPLAINTS. SHE HAS 3GROWN KIDS WHO ARE OUT ON THEIR OWN. ONE HAS A CAREER & IS DOING WELL. THE OTHER'S HAVE CHILDREN & ARE BARELY MAKING IT. THEY BORROW MONEY FROM HER (AND HER DH) BUT SHE HAS TO HOUND THEM TO GET THEM TO PAY HER BACK. THESE ALREADY HAVE HAD A BANKRUPTCY EACH. ONE GOT THEIR'S LAST CHRISTMAS. THEY'RE ALREADY MISSING BILLS & GETTING CALLS. BUT THEY'VE GOTTEN FANCY CELL PHONES, SEVERAL COACH PURSES & EXPENSIVE GAMES. THE OTHER ONE GETS THE EXPENSIVE GAMES & IS SINGLE SO THERE'S LOTS OF DATES. THESE 2 HAVE 6 CHILDREN BETWEEN THEM. NOW MY FRIENDS SAYING SHE DOESN'T KNOW HOW SHE'S GOING TO MAKE IT AS HER DH WANTS TO RETIRE IN 2 YEARS. OK, ASK ME SOMETHING & I'LL GIVE YOU MY HONEST ANSWER. I TOLD HER TO QUIT BAILING THEM OUT OR LOANING THEM MONEY. ONE GIFT AT B-DAY/CHRISTMAS IS ENOUGH & DOESN'T HAVE TO TOTAL $50.00. THEY DON'T NEED GIFTS FOR EVERY HOLIDAY. THE OLD SAYING THAT YOU CAN'T HELP SOMEONE WHO WON'T HELP THEIRSELVES IS VERY TRUE. NOW SHE'S ACTING LIKE I'M A COLD HEARTED PERSON! I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS IN MY OWN FAMILY & LEARNED THE HARD WAY. TIMES ARE WAY TOO HARD TO PUT UP WITH FREE LOADERS. A FAMILY MEMEBER IS PUSHING FOR ME TO GET ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBER SOME BABY ITEMS. I SAID I COULDN'T AFFORD IT. THIS PERSON REFUSES TO WORK BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO BE BOSSED. THEY FREE LOAD ON OTHER FAMILY MEMEBERS & FRIENDS. WE'VE ALREADY TOLD THEM THAT THEY CAN'T STAY WITH US. THEY ALL HAVE A BAD HABIT OF MOVING IN WITH SOMEONE 7 THEN THE REST COME TO "VISIT" & STAY SEVERAL DAYS. NOT ONLY DO THEY BUY ANY FOOD BUT EXPECT TO BE WAITED ON. I DON'T KNOW. THIS IS A NO WIN PROBLEM BUT IT DOES GET TO ME. I'VE TRYED TO HELP FOR YEARS & THEY JUST EXPECT PEOPLE TO GIVE EVERYTHING TO THEM. SORRY TO HAVE VENTED SO MUCH BUT THIS DOES GET OLD! emoticon

Our DD, DSIL and our 7 1/2 week old grandson will be visiting this weekend. Our son came up last night and will be staying all weekend as well. We haven't seen our little grandson in 5 weeks, so this will be such a treat for us. We're all very excited, so I've been cleaning up and disinfecting, because DH had a cold that lasted for over 2 weeks. Unheard of for him. I'll continue tonight and tomorrow morning while they drive up.

Got the lawns mowed while we had 2 days of sun. Most of May was one big rainstorm and it's raining again, but we've had maybe 4 sunny days this month. The grass is green, flowers are finally blooming and the trees are getting leaves. Even our fruit trees are getting buds and showing signs of giving us fruit this year. If could only get a few more sunny days and more visits with the kids.

HOW IS THIS FOR A BARGIN--I was selected to receive a free captel ( Caption Call) phone. The callers words are typed in bold face on a screen where I read them and speak into the head set. Only my contact is captioned, They hear my voice. It is amazing! Years of never using anything but a TTY which people hate to be called on leaves me without being able to hold the handle correctly. I have to remind myself to hold it correctly. It is a joy to feel like I am having a real conversation after over 30 years.

emoticon Hi Everyone, now it's my turn to go MIA! I dont plan to be around here much...doing pruning of dead wood in my bushes...over 12 feet high...things got away from me while I recouped from surgeries these past 3 years and I am trying to play catch up before I see the surgeon in July...need to get veggi garden in and my new dwarf fruit trees plus we have plans to renovate the bathroom so what time I have will be spent working outdoorss as much as possible...Just spend 3 hours on my dogwood thats just cutting and pulling still have to take care of the debris. Laundry all on clothes line, all my veggies in pots watered and I am tired but still have to do banking, bookkeeping and filing before I start dinner...So now you know why you wont be seing me. until I get caught up I just have to use all the time I have between now and July to get things completed....Yes I am testing, yes I am watching what i eat but it takes too much time right now to check in with all my groups so I am not gonna stress but get outside, get these things done and who knows maybe the fresh air, exercise and stressfree environment will work where the gym hasn't. Enjoy Memorial Day!

Just checking in to say Hi.
It seems like everyone is surviving and in good shape -- I guess that's the best way to put it.
That's definitely the way it feels sometimes, but it's good to know that we all still have the strength to get through everything.
I finally started working full time (in one place) on Monday, so I lasted through that ordeal to get to this point. Still have more hurdles to get over before I can say everything is OK, but at least things are much better than they were a few months ago.
Take care, everyone.
I'll try to check in again, soon.

Good Morning:

Yesterday was a very LONG day. I spent 8 hours taking my friend to the hospital, staying throughout her day surgery, and taking her home when she was discharged. In the evening I went for an MRI on my shoulder, but not before taking two valium. I feel like I'm buried alive in that machine and can only get through it if I keep my eyes closed all the time. Well, the valium knocked me out to the extent that it took a bit to wake up this morning.

As predicted, Vic needs a transfusion today and I fully expect we'll be five hours minimum before we get home. It's ok. I'm much calmer and more patient since I made the decision last week to pay someone to clean my home.

Hope you are all doing well.

Gail

Darla: So happy you are all right.

Frosty: Good luck tomorrow with your dh's blood work.

Thank you both so much! The tornado that went over me was a F3!! My daughter was watching it on the internet in Arizona and talking me through it as it went over me! After I saw the damage on TV of towns close by I was so thankful that it slowed down some by the time it got to Norman but actually touched down less than 4 miles from me! Piedmont was hit pretty bad so it may be a while before you get a hold of your friends. I am sure the service is just down there. I had gone to Emporia Kansas last Sat to see my niece get married and I was in the hotel when the tornado was in Emporia and it Reading Kansas and tore up the whole town which is where my niece lives and I think her husbands house is there too. They are still on their honeymoon I think and her son I think was with her Mom so I think all of them are safe but it is only 250 people in that town and it took out 110 homes and the grain elevator! There is nothing left of Reading! So please keep my nice Mandy , her husband Dan and Erik her son and his kids in your prayers! I am so thankful to God to be here and be alive! Hope everyone has a great day!

Glad you are ok Darla, We are still trying to find out about some friends who live in Piedmont as we know they got hit pretty hard. They aren't answering their cells so hoping it is just a service problem.
We are hot and dry down here, We had a water main break today so had no water for several hours this evening so I didn't get to water my plants tonite so hoping they can go a day without water,
Taking DH for his bloodwork tomorrow so hoping things look good.
Praying for all of those in harms way with the tornadoes and flooding and storms.

Hello Everyone!
Well I survived the tornado here in Norman Oklahoma! They let us off at 445 instead of 6 yesterday and I was watching them on TV and when it was 20 min from Norman I got into the tub with my blankets and pilows and was trying to hold my cat but she was scratchign me and freaking out so I finally just let her go . A helicopter was filming it as it went over us and my daughter Erin was watching it on the internet as it was happening and talking to me on the phone from Arizona. I heard the thunder and hail or something hitting the roof and listening to it on the radio. It hit several towns close by me but Norman was okay. So I am thankful God answered my prayers and kept me safe!!!

I am ready to start working on my weight loss again. I have just been off track for so long but reading the posts encourages me to keep trying! I am ready to get this weight off for good. I ordered the P90X DVD's so I am excited about those! oh my niece got married last Sat in Emporia Kansas and they blew the tornado sirings and it looked bad and it hit Reading Kansas where she lives. Small town of 250 people and took out 110 homes and the grain elevator! She is still on her honeymoon and her son was safe with his Grandma so I am thankful she was not home! Dont' know how her house looks yet. Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Yesterday was a busy day but fun. After I went to the doctor in the morning, I picked up the grandchildren and had a great time with them. I got in plenty of exercise. Today I will be doing laundry, packing since we leave to return to Florida tomorrow. Going to dinner this evening with friends. Plan to order a healthy meal.

I can't believe how long it's been since I stopped in here. I've been so busy and it seems that I keep forgetting to post anywhere. I'm sorry but I didn't take notes and can't remember everyone and what you all posted.

I hope everyone's health and that of their loved ones gets better or is helped by the upcoming surgeries and treatments. What some of you are going through has to be very difficult and I'm sorry you have to deal with it.

It's been so rainy up here that people either haven't planted their gardens or are worried that what little they did plant will be rotted by now. So far this month, I think we've had 3 sunny days. The rest have ranged from just misty to downright pouring, but no sun. We have sun today, but it won't last. We haven't even prepared our spot, since it will be a new one, because the spot we want has been too wet anyway. I hope DH gets to it this weekend, as this is traditionally the "planting weekend" for our area anyway. It's supposed to rain again, but it would be nice to get the plot ready for the next sunny day we have.

I'm looking forward to this weekend, rain or shine, because our DD, DSIL and little grandson will be visiting. We haven't seen our grandson for over a month and he's just 7 weeks old now. Neither of us can wait to hold him again. He's smiling a lot now, working on his laugh and really growing. I just can't wait.

We just got word that my BIL will be going in for surgery on June 14th. They cled him today and moved up the surgery date. So, we are getting ready to go down to Calif. We are also having to stop in Mesquite, NV to check on my BIL rental property too.

Thank you all again for your support.

Good Morning:

Got all my plants in yesterday. Now what is left is to lay newspaper with hay on top between the rows and around the plants. This all but eliminates weeding all summer. All I have to do is water, sucker the tomato plants, and pick the crops.

Vic had a root canal yesterday and everything went well. Today I go to the doctor to find out about my shoulder. I hope they can do something. Afterward I'll stop in to TARGET and look around. I got a gift certificate for my birthday that I have yet to use. It's 58 and very cloudy right now but the forecast calls for sunshine with temperatures around 69.

Enjoy the day and stay well.

SRIVERS: So glad that the cancer is contained. Will keep praying that all goes well for your bil.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Hi All,

Just wanted to let you know the the P.E.T. scan on my BIL came back. The cancer is contained to his leg only. That is the good news. He will be going in for surgery next month.

Thank you all so much for all you support and wishes.

I had to have a root canal. I shopped online for a good dentist to do a good job that was within only a few miles (gasoline prices, grrrr). To my surprise I found a good one. My family dentist doesn't do root canals and his suggestion of a specialist was too far away and expensive. Fortunately, I found a good one for a good price. I had it done today and it all went well.

I have had a pre-paid phone for several years (T-Mobile), and they also double and triple the minutes after you've had their service for a while.
I only use it when I need to,, and I've only had to put $50 on it every year -- any unused minutes roll-over to the next year as long as you pay before the year is up.

Good Morning:

Today, dear frugalists, I found a website that allows you to send free ecards that are not run-of-the-mill. Here it is:

rattlebox.com

This morning I sent out an e-birthday card and an e-thinking of you card.

Gail

Sixty: I'm so happy you can go back to exercising. That's truly wonderful.
As for your cell phone, I don't know what you are paying but we have a prepaid trac-phone. When we bought it we took the option where you get double minutes every time you purchase minutes. It runs $7-$8 a month.

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning Team!
I am hopeful that we will have a sunny day. emoticon
We had thunderstorms and wind overnight.

I had another procedure for my back problems a few days ago. I can resume my water aerobics tomorrow. Perhaps I can take a walk today.

My cell phone died Saturday. It is still on warranty. I had a lot of info in it. DH was able to get it operating long enough to get most of the numbers out of it. My brother and his wife just retired. They dropped their land lines and went to cell phones alone. They have expensive packages and are talking about switching to the same company we have - Consumer Cellular. We are very pleased with it. They have started shopping in discount stores, which surprised me. They have spent the last ten years trying to tell us to buy fancier phones & encouraging me to spend more on my clothes. What a switch.

Today I attended a family wedding. It was enjoyable and the weather was good. The best thing I did today was not eat wedding cake or any sweets. I ate a healthy meal and felt great.

I walked in the mall today because of blowing wind with dust and p ollen. Did three full circuits and claimed 2.85 miles. There are lots of people walking for health, but Saturday is not a good day to do it unless you get in before the crowds arrive.

DH treated me to some frozen yougart and I held my self to 2 ounces and savored every bite.

Good Morning:

We took out the family to celebrate our daughter's birthday yesterday and had a lovely time. What a beautiful day it was. Today I'll clean house and try to run some errands. I also want to try to get in a workout at the gym. We'll see.

Nan: Why did you replant? I think I may have to dig up the tomato plants I put in earlier this week because I only spaced them about 2' apart. We'll see.

Frosty: So glad your dh is getting stronger every day. There is no way he could do this without you. Be sure to give yourself some "me" time every day. As my friend Celeste says, " What will happen to him if you don't take care of yourself?"

Linda: Sounds like this wedding and weekend will be lots of fun. How many grandchildren do you have?

Kurt: How are you doing? BTW, what's happening with the apartment search? Is that on hold?

Sixty: What town do you live in? Are you in a rural area?

Penny: Glad the doc says your eyes are healing so well. So now you need a dentist. Boy, it never ends, does it?

Darla: Hope all is well with you. I didn't realize you did WW.

Heather: Welcome. I would recommend you check freecycle to see if anyone in your area has some seeds or plants they will give you. I've gotten some plants and seeds in the past. On freecycle everything you get or give away is free. Free is good.

SRIVERS: Still keeping your bil in my prayers. How are you doing?

Enjoy the day everyone.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Today was okay. Youngest daughter and I went to get our nails done this morning. I later went to the gym and got in some exercise. At home worked on laundry and cleaning the extra room (which is always the clutter room). Tomorrow grandkids, and both daughters are in a wedding which I will be attending. I am going to go to the park with all of them for pictures. I have a scheduled root canal on Monday - h'mmmm - so talked with the dentitst's office today. DH and I are making plans for out getaway back to Florida. We leave Thursday - yay!!

All of you are wanting it to dry up and here I am down in Florida having to water every day to keep things alive. What crazy weather.
DH & I walked this morning but got a late start and it was pretty warm when we got out there. He is going further every day. Think in a couple weeks we will be back to our 3+ mi. I walked more after I got him back home so I get in my steps. Later I decided to cut back my sweet potato plant & plant it up front by our entrance sign and lo and behold, there was a nice black snake there. After he slithered off, I got enough nerve to do the cutting!! I am always careful down here when reaching as we do have snakes.
We met our friends for lunch. They are down staying with their kids for a month from Canada. The kids run a restaurant so we ate there and I had a nice cobb salad. They served it in a bucket in a big bowl-very cute. You turn it out and have your salad but it gives it a nice presentation.
Has gotten really hot this afternoon so didn't go out except to water this evening. I am going to try to get our maintenance men to work on the sprinklers next week.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Pat

Hi. I'm kinda new here been lurking for a couple weeks, I guess. I'm trying to live as frugal as possible, and learn a few tricks I don't already know...

So glad may is here, unfortunately I'm sitting here watching the rain, wishing I could plant my garden. I had bought seeds thinking I'd get my garden out early, but it just got tilled this past week. Now I'm thinking I may have to sell something, so I can buy some plants instead... otherwise, everything will be coming up about the time the first frost hits in october... LOL...

Hope everyone is having a great day.

~~Heather

CAPS FOR VISION IMPAIRMENT

HAD MY FIANAL EYE SURGERY (LEFT EYE THIS TIME) ON TUESDAY. DOCTOR CHECKED ME THE NEXT MORNING & SAID EVERYTHING LOOKED GOOD & TO COME BACK IN 2 WEEKS (JUNE 1) TO BE CHECKED OUT & GET A NEW PAIR OF GLASSES. I'LL ONLY NEED THEM FOR CLOSE WORK. NOW I'VE GOT TO FIND A DENIST!

TUES NIGHT THE WEATHER PEOPLE SAID WE WOU;DN'T HAVE RAIN UNTIL THE WEEK END. SO I HUNG CLOTHES OUT TO DRY WED MORNING. WHILE AT THE AUCTION THET EVENING (CLOTHES HADN'T DRIED SO I LEFT THEM ON THE LINE) IT STARTED RAINING. GOT UP THE NEXT MORNING & THEY WEREN'T SOAKED - JUST DAMP - SO I BROUGHT THEM IN & DRIED THEM. HALF AN HOUR LATER IT STARTED TO POUR. IT'S RAINED EVERYDAY & NOW THEY'RE SAYING IT'S GOING TO RAIN UNTIL WED. LAST NIGHT WE GOT A LEAK IN THE DEN. WE PUT A NEW ROOF (DOWN TO BARE BOARDS) 20 YEARS AGO. GUESS NOTHING LASTS FOREVER!
STILL HAVE SOME SEEDS TO PLANT. DID GET 40 MORE (40 LBS EACH BAG) BAGS OF TOP SOIL. PUT THE FIRST 40 BAGS IN THE NEW STRAWBERRY BED. NOW WE'VE GOT TO FINSIH THE BLUE BERRY & RASBERRY BEDS. AND SEED THE ORCHARD WITH THE WHITE CLOVER SEED WE HAD ORDERED. SO MUCH TO DO BUT I KNOW , IN TIME, WE'LL GET IT FINISHED.

GOT A MEETING TO GO TO SO HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GOOD & SAFE DAY! emoticon

Good morning:

I worked out yesterday on the elliptical for 35 minutes and was very satisfied with the workout. Then I went to the garden and put in 12 tomato plants. I was really working hard for 2 hours. Upon my return to the house I immediately headed for the shower. When I came out I had 3 ibuprofen and a gin and tonic. LOL (The G&T was a rare experience. I never have more than one drink a month and have been know to go for years without having any alcohol at all.)

Tonight we are taking the family out for our daughter's birthday. Vic will pick up a gift certificate and card on the way home. It's so hard to buy for the family, so hard. I think it's much easier to get something for little kids, don't you?

Enjoy the day and hang in there everyone.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Gail-yes I feel like I am always hurrying to get everything done! I have had to slow down the past few days since I haven't felt too good. I have kept walking with DH every morning as I know he would not walk if I didn't and drs want him to walk every day. I got a long nap yesterday and feel about 80% better today so maybe by tomorrow I will be back to my usual marathon self-ha ha.
This morning I had helpers and we put out most of the plants in the park-we had bought a van load of stuff on Mon so it had to be done before we lost them and I didn't want to have to keep watering them on my carport. They were really good and did a lot of the work for me and I just kept things organized and moving.
DH is having good and bad days. Today his pressure was way too low-dr wants him to get off some of his meds so we are starting to cut back tonite so will see how things go. I am hoping we can get him off a number of them-too much medicine isn't good for you and it is expensive.
Hope to hear some good reports when I next drop by. Glad to see you are back Kurt. I guess life gets in the way on all of us and we just have to do what we can when we can.

Today I took a walk, on the treadmill, and did a bit of housecleaning. It has been a rainy day so I didn't do much out of doors. Not a bad day, anyway.

Hello Everyone,
I have been mia too. Just really depressed and trying to find a way to go forward with my life after losing my Mom, ex mother in law and close friend. I am emotinally eating really bad. Any suggestions?? I am still going to WW and bought a scale and some other things to get back on track. Also bought the P90x program to try and do in the mornings before work. I have to do something to get healhty and get off some of the 12 medications that I take. Love my new car! I am driving Sat to Emporia Kansas to see my niece get married! She has a 14 year old son and this is her first marriage and hopefully last! She is 36. It will be awkward seeing my ex sister in law but she was fine with me coming so maybe it wont'be too bad. Look forward to seeing my nephew and his family her brother. My brother was severly abusive to them and so I just hope they can separate me from him since I don't want anything to do with that brother either. He was in prison for shooting his girlfriend in the back of the head and spent 15 years in prison. He is out and remarried but I dont' like his wife at all. She is stupid for not wanting to know anything about his past! I just grew up in a very abusive home and I have and still am working on myself in counseling. I have 2 great kids who love me and I did not even spank them much less abuse them! They are spoiled wrotten! lol Hope everyone has a great day!

emoticon BACK Kurt. I hope your employment is more manageable.

SRIVERS1 - I just said a prayer for your BIL for healing.

It is still pretty cold here. In the 40's. After being in the 90's for one day last week.
We have such small closets. I want to pack things away in our vacuum bags. Then I can store them in the garage or under the bed. They were an investment when we first got them, but they are reusable. One of my daughter's uses the vacuum bags to store items in their crawl space. I use one of them to store sheets & towels for unexpected guests. All I have to do is grab the bag.

I notice that we have a lot of new members in the last ten days. If any of you are lurking out there, just jump in and comment on this thread. We will be glad to have you.

I have been MIA, also.
I'd been working at two schools with travel time in between, so I'd leave after 9am and get home after 10pm -- you'd think I'd be rolling in money right now, but it didn't amount to much.
I ditched the morning school (in Manhattan) and am still at the evening school (in Brooklyn).
I'm in better financial shape than I was last November, but I've got a ways to go.

Thanks to everyone who sent good wishes via SparkMail and on my SparkPage. I'm pretty sure that I managed to reply to everyone.
I should have more time to myself, now, so I'll try to check in more often.

It is good to see all of you chatting. I have been missing in action quite a bit. I will try to be here more than I have been. But, I am still quite busy.

I had shared that our pastor was diagnosed with a brain tumor about a month ago. His wife is a dear friend and a fellow sparker. He died last Thursday. The funeral was yesterday. I have been doing all the shut in visit's he would have been doing. I now have two volunteers to help.

We decided to plant some tomato and bell pepper plants. All the rain and cold weather has not helped them. We also have some lettuce planted. These are all items that we should be able to get from the CSA farm. We have had such excessive rain in the past two months after a drought a year ago. The farm communicates with every body at least once a month. They have indicated that the plants in their green houses are okay. If we have an over abundance, we have plenty of family and friends to share with.

Good Morning:

I am so greedy. I was told that my garden plot this year was in the same place and the same size as last year. My neighbor put up my fencing and I checked it out, but somehow it didn't quite register that the plot was smaller, 1/3 smaller than it was last year. In any event I bought enough plants: 21 tomato plants, 7 peppers, 6 broccoli, 6 cucumber and 4 eggplant. That's too much, way too much for a small space. I think I'll be planting some of those in rows where I've planted seeds. Some of the seeds I planted were old and are not high priority items: carrots, radishes. If need be I'm even considering returning the peppers and cukes. We'll see. I'm told if I plant them too close together there is not enough circulation, so if the leaves of one tomato plant touch another and they get a disease it will spread. Any of you know anything about this? I'm thinking of calling the gardening center to find out.

Nan: Sorry you have rain. Today is glorious, sunny and bright.

Enjoy the day everyone.

Gail

Just to update everyone on my BIL. He has had the Scan late Thursday and we won't get results until Monday or Tuesday. He goes in for a biopsy on Monday and starts Chemo on Thursday. My DH and I will be leaving at the earliest May 23rd to go be with him. It all depends on the out come of the Test. At this time are bags are packed and we are ready to go.

Thank you all for all your support during this time.

Sandy

Good Morning:

There is a non-profit organization in our area that promotes urban gardens. Today they are having a sale of organic vegetable plants. I'm getting 3 varieties of heirloom, organic tomato plants: Brandywine, Golden Sunray, and Rose de Berne. Have any of you had these? I've grown Brandywine, but not heirloom. I understand there is a world of difference. I' m also getting two varieties of paste tomatoes: Aztec and Amish Paste. Never had those before either. It's all good, right?

Pat: Darling, it sounds like you are running a marathon. I'm so glad you got a nap in yesterday. Do you find yourself constantly rushing? When I've got a lot on my plate I try to go as quickly as possible and I think that adds to the stress. I had good training for moving fast, having grown up in NYC. The pace of life there is 10 times faster than it is here in the midwest. I've been living in Wisconsin almost 48 years and I still haven't slowed down.

Megan: So sorry to hear about your phone. We have a prepaid cell phone and rarely use it. I use it so infrequently that I haven't even memorized the number. LOL We got it for emergencies in the fall of 2008 when Vic got sick. It's only $7 a month to keep it up. We never use up all our minutes, so more recently I've been using it for long long distance calls.

Sixty: How you doin' honey?

Hugs for all,

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning Everyone,
I know it's not good to try and sleep in, but I really tried this morning and just couldn't sleep more than a half hour past my normal alarm time of 4:30am...ugh! I managed to break my HTC Evo phone yesterday. After fixing an error from looking on a chat forum, I pushed a wrong button and now I get to pick up my phone this morning from the Sprint store. I was so mad at myself for the error because I keep a lot of personal information in this smartphone and I don't want the store people seeing it. However, they have to do a hard reset so I'm going to lose almost everything.....double ugh! Lesson learned.

I hope you all have a great saturday!

Srivers will be praying for you BIL. Hope things aren't as dire as they sound.
Gail-so hard to know what to do isn't it. Here you thought you were doing good feeding your DH fresh fruits and veggies and it wasn't. The harder we try it seems sometimes the worse we make things. I keep telling myself-KISS-keep it simple, stupid.
My DH is home-got home 9 PM Tues eve and we were so keyed up we didn't sleep well but doing better on that front. He is supposed to walk as his prescription to get better, but we were simply too tired to do much on Wed but have walked 3/4 of a mile the past 2 days and I walk more after getting him home.
I am trying to get things caught up here now that he is home. It is going to be a slow process after nearly 3 weeks of neglect but it will all come together I guess. I hope to work in my yard tomorrow and maybe start on the park gardens next week since it is supposed to be cooler. I need to do some more seeding at dad's so may try to do that tomorrow also since they say we may get some rain and that would be good on it.
Today I had to take dad to dermatologist so was rushing to be ready by 10 as we walked, then DH showered, I got us a bite to eat, dad got here for his shower and finally I got one and off we went to dr. She found a spot on his ear that she biopsied and I expect to be going back to take it off in the next couple of weeks.
We got back home about 10:45 and I got my ironing caught up that I had let pile up for the past couple of weeks. Then it was time to take DH to the dr. We had to see the oncologist today-had cancelled 2 appointments while he was in the hospital. His platelet count was just slightly elevated and doc thinks that is due to everything he has been thru the past few weeks so he will see him again in 3 mo and hopefully by then things will be back to normal.
We decided to take a little ride after we got out and even splurged and had a McDonald's cone. Felt good to just relax and feel "normal" for a couple of hours.
I got in a short nap this afternoon when we got back before a friend came to check on Bill and woke us up but it helped to make me feel a bit more human. Tonite I worked on watering-at home, at dad's and in the park. Hoping for rain tomorrow!!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Bernadette I hope things go well-just remember worry doesn't change a thing, just makes us lose sleep.
Pat

Today is cleaning day for me. I've got a load of wash in and am ready to go. There is a beauty school nearby, and if I can get in I'd like to go for a pedicure today. It's $10. Do any of you get services at a beauty school?

Gail

Good Morning and TGIF! Keeping you all in my thoughts here. I've been working so much overtime lately, I've hardly had a chance to breathe, so the weekend is sounding wonderful right now. I didn't set myself up with any tasks for the weekend, so there's a plus. I hope you all have a great day!
