I was only 40+lbs overweight, and not sedentary (did a lot of walking), so it didn't take an obvious toll on my health.
The one thing that did change is that I rarely eat out anymore. I guess that's healthier -- if I make a comparable "fast food" meal at home, I won't gain weight from it, but if I eat basically the same thing at a fast food place, I'll visibly gain.
Very interesting article and, of course, we've seen lots of news articles about the cost of obesity when it comes to missed office hours, causing a reduction in productivity. Even when I was overweight, I did not miss work unless I was really, really sick. Have I seen an improvement in that area since regaining a healthy weight? I'm going to give a cautious yes. I have felt like I was coming down with a cold a couple of times since the fall season, but I have not missed out on any activities at all. It's usually been very mild, I've still been able to exercise and take in healthy nutrition.
All of these, I believe, have combined to boost my immune system and I feel GOOD. That -- like the credit card commercial likes to say -- is priceless. My current weight is actually putting "money in the bank" instead of costing me!
