Actually, Terri, it's international with groups all over the USA, and in Canada, the UK, Costa Rica, Isreal, Africa, etc. Ours is the largest in the world with almost 1800 in Dane County, WI. It is just 4-5 years old, but we have a very active community with a great number of people who are very community minded. Our director is going to France this month to make a presentation there; last year she made a presentation in Holland. If you want to find out more about the TimeBanks in the USA go to: http://www.timebanks.org/

Enjoy each day.

That TimeBank sounds like a great idea! Is it a community thing? Who organizes it and keeps track of the hours?

Got some good news. A new member of the TimeBank will be coming next Friday to help me clean. It's been ages since I had help and I feel I really need it. I hope things work out and she can come 2-4 times a month. For those of you who have no idea what the TimeBank is, it's a local organization whereby neighbors help neighbors for time dollars. If I cook for someone and earn 2 hours I can then use those 2 hours to pay someone who helps me clean. No money changes hands. It's a barter system where everyone wins. A few days ago I signed up a guy who worked construction for several years and is a good carpenter. I bet he'll get several calls.

It's cold but sunny here, and I LOVE the sun.

Wishing you all a beautiful Spark day.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning:

I wanted to give you an update on my friend, Celeste, the one who has lung cancer - stage 4. I spoke with her yesterday and she is doing pretty well. She has had side effects from the medication, but she's taking it in stride, happy to be alive with some hope. I was shocked to learn that since her meds don't qualify as chemo, and she has to pay for it as she would any drug. She falls in the "doughnut hole" with Medicare, and has to shell out $1000 a month for her pills. Thank God they have the money to pay for it, but it's obscene. Another horrible thing is what she has to pay for parking every time she sees her doctors in Manhattan...$20-$38, depending on which doctor she sees. Unbelievable! Here patients don't pay for parking when they have appointments. Hospital visitors pay not more than a few dollars a day, and the spouse/best friend/closest relative of the patient gets a free pass.
I guess they'll have to economize in other areas. What with the meds, the parking and other things (convenient meals, eating out, medical supplies, help at home, etc,) she's been spending $1600+ per month. Those are expenses she didn't have before. Thankfully, her house is paid off, so they don't have to worry about a mortgage payment. Cancer is a terribly expensive disease, and I imagine there are other conditions that are equally expensive.
FYI people eat out or hire help, not because they want to have a good dinner in a fine restaurant or are too lazy. It's a question of spending 12 hours traveling and going from one medical appointment or treatment to another, and for being too weak to do anything.

For those of you who have told me you are praying for her, please continue to do so; it's working.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

emoticon Hi everyone, I figured we could all use a hot cup of tea or decaf coffee right now. We haven't gotten the awful weather that has hit; I guess we just missed being caught in it. It's been gloomy all day; I thought for sure we were going to get punched with some kind of storm.

Kurt, I'm glad you're able to list what went right after your list of challenges. I hope you don't lose any funds on the debit card and that the interviewer will definitely call you back and set a date and time for that interview.

Getting ready to celebrate Groundhog Day tomorrow...it's my sweetie's birthday too! I'm baking a special cake for him and we're going out on Saturday evening to really celebrate the day. Just too busy on Wednesdays to do anything meaningful.

Stay warm and keep a flashlight near you, everyone in the stormy areas!

Please be careful all you folks who have to deal with blizzards and such! It's a good time to stay home by the fire--with candles ready!

Kurt--I hope your debit card issues get resolved quickly! Those things were supposed to make our money more secure than cash, but it just makes more sophisticated thieves. We use ours a lot as I don't like to carry cash, but I'm always leary about entering my PIN.

Happy February 1. Today is the beginning of a new day and a fresh start. Right now I am feeling VERY guilty for having gone off the deep end yesterday. I got into a bag of cheddar snacks. (Salty crunchies are my downfall.) After that it was straight downhill. I'm hoping to do better today.

Well, we got some snow yesterday and last night but the real stuff will be coming today and tomorrow. It's not even 7am and our dear neighbor...our snow angel...is out there with his snow blower on our walk and driveway. Such a blessing.

The roads were tricky yesterday, even before there was much snow on the ground. On our way to the eye doctor, for my annual exam, we made a left turn. An oncoming car skidded right through the intersection; he could not stop. He missed us by a few inches. For a minute there I thought he was going to ram Vic on the driver's side. Vic quickly took the turn to avoid getting hit. We were fine, but taking the turn as he did was dangerous; we could easily have skidded. The moral of the story is please, please, please go slowly, no matter what pressure you may get to speed up from cars behind you. Slippery conditions always exist when there is snow; what's worse is BLACK ICE.
Be safe, stay warm and take care.

Kurt: So sorry to hear about someone charging to your debit card. I HATE those things and use mine once or twice every few years. Last May we applied for a credit card. The day before I got it in the mail the credit card company called to ask if I had made a particular charge. I told them I hadn't even gotten the card. They suspected the charge was fraudulent, didn't pay it and sent me a new card. Whew!

Sixty: Having a survival kit is a great idea. I think I will put one together.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

Linda,
That is a good idea to keep the extra items in a kit in the car. They talk about that on the radio a lot, but I've never actually tried. Usually my commute to work is 35 minutes. There's a website that I look at for the county traffic cams, too, so I can see what the roads look like before I go out.

Kurt, I'm sorry to hear about the debit card situation. I've heard that happen to people. At least you noticed the issue.

Megan,
When I used to work in the next county, I had a backpack with a change of clothes & shoes. but also, a tin bucket with candle and matches for heat, a flashlight, and a box of nutrition bars [like slim fast] and some bottled water. Also a couple blankets and extra gloves and boots. I haven't used my boots since I retired, and still don't know where I stashed them. Also, take a bag of kitty litter and a small shovel.

Kurt - My niece had problems with identity theft about 8 years ago. Her purse was stolen, and the problems didn't develop until a year later. I understand there is technology out there that thieves use that can some how copy the card. They are selling some kind of metal cases now to keep credit & debit cards in to protect you from this. I never figured anybody around here would be that sophisticated, but where you live . . . .

Also, our snow is just starting. This is being forecast as a 3 day storm for us. Up to 6" snow by noon on Tuesday, then maybe an ice storm, then another foot of snow and 40 mph winds. Some of it is so far to the future - I hope mother nature changes her direction.

Kurt - can you qualify for assistance with utilities? Or is that part of your rent?

What a day!
I found out this afternoon about fraudulent charges on my debit card (a little less than $100). I rarely have money on it, but I put some on to pay a bill.
The charges are in "Pre-authorization" (made a couple of days ago) so the money hasn't been released. I have no idea how anyone got my number and information.

I just spent the last hour and a half speaking on the phone to the debit card's customer service rep, and then e-mailing the retailer in California.
Would you believe that the debit card co can't freeze the charges even though I caught them before the damage? They told me that the retailer has to collect the money, then they file criminal charges.
...Is that sane?

I was supposed to have an interview this afternoon, but the manager called to reschedule. She's not sure about the time and plans to call me again, tomorrow.

The other school doesn't have any extra hours for substitute teaching (but maybe the snow and ice will fix that -- IF I can get to work).

Then, I got the notice that my application for Medicaid got turned down because I was making $150 over the income limit -- unbelievable. How much less can I make?
I would have only used the medical benefits to get eyeglasses, but still...

The Good Things for today:
My classes went well, as usual.
The train was running.
My dog has her favorite dog food.

However, it seems the NYC weather report for snow and ice (starting tonight and going through to Thursday morning) is predicting a more severe situation.

I just found out that we're getting a blizzard tomorrow afternoon. We're looking at a foot of snow or more by Wednesday. Looks like I'll be leaving earlier to go to work. We already have two inches as of right now. Stay warm everyone:)

I am ready to be without power & phone lines if this ice storm & blizzard really hit us. I went to see my mother as we could be housebound the rest of the week.
Need to go gas up the car yet tonight. If the power goes out, the gas pumps won't work.

Kurt: Thanks for the tip.

I've my annual eye appointment this afternoon.

We are supposed to get snow here too, but I'm not sure how much. It's very lightly snowing now.

emoticon Good Morning Team.
The sun is shining brightly. Must be the calm before the storm. We are expecting some kind of winter storm. It could be sleet or huge amount of snow.
We are ready. We have gasoline available to run a generator. I am going to pick up some canned foods that don't require heat to cook. We have an electric stove & oven.

Megan - hope you're up to 100% soon!
Darla - so sorry for all you're going through. Trust yourself and you'll make the right decision for yourself.

I had a fabulous weekend - went to visit my parents and some old friends. It was kind of rainy weather, but nice and warm. I'm starting my second week at the new job. I'm stuggling a bit with the lack of guidance/supervision, but hopefully I'll meet with my boss by the end of the week (she's in an office about 3 hours away).

I hope that everyone hangs in there and stays safe through all the storms that look like they're coming.

Good Morning Everyone,
It's another cold morning, and we apparently have 8-12 inches of snow coming between this afternoon and Wednesday night. Half the time, the forecast isn't right and we don't get much, but I won't jinx anything (knock on wood).

I'm still not back to perfect. My cough still won't go away but I can at least breathe decent with my cold this morning. I'm hoping this day goes by nice and quick at work.
Have a great day all!

I posted the FaveDiets eBooks page that included the FaveCrafts eBooks, plus additional eBooks from their other newsletters.
I think the link may be in the old My Thrifty Tips thread from the end of last year, or at the beginning of the new thrifty tips thread that was started this year.
If anyone else is interested in free downloadable eBooks (pdf) with recipes and crafts, the link is worth searching for.

The NYC forecast for Monday night through Thursday morning is snow with a chance of sleet/ice on Tuesday.
I hope it doesn't affect my train so I can get to work.

Hello Everyone!
Thanks again for all the comments. You guys are awesome! I especially appreiciate yours Kurt. At least I am not alone with a crazy family! lol I am just going to focus on getting to San Antonio as soon as I can. I need to be with my family and we are all very close. My kids love to spend as much time with me as I do them. We are very close. My brothers do not know anything about my family because they have never even tried. And I just don't care anymore! lol Went to Weight Watchers today. I had missed last week and I lost 4.2 pounds the last 2 weeks! I was very happy with that! A really nice lady in my group keeps bringing me clothes she has lost out of that fit me now! So I got a lot of new clothes from her today!! Made my day!! Plus they are free! lol I feel better just knowing I have a plan now to get to San Antonio if it works out. I am going to try and go back to where I was working and work part time and keep my disablity and housing and then transfer all of it down there. Then I can look for a job down there. I would still like to keep going to college to get my license as a Professional Counselor and then I could just work part time and make a lot of money. But I also have to think about how much my medications cost and on Medicare part D they are only about $30 a month versus $2000 or more with no insurance and about $400 a month with insurance. So it is a lot to think about . Either be poor the rest of my life or stuggle to make ends meet. Hard decision. Take care everyone! Darla

Regarding Vitamin C - it is an acid.
Some people can't stand large quantities in their stomach. Other wise, it does get eliminated. You body won't use more than it needs. Your stomach will let you know if you are consuming too much. Food forms are safer than any pill form.

emoticon I saw the biggest snow man that I have ever seen in person. It had to be ten foot tall. I bet they are trying to get a Fort Wayne TV station to come to town to photograph it. It was in a yard on one of the main arteries through town.

Megan:

I don't think there is a "Too Much Vitamin C" level if it's from natural sources -- whatever can't get used, gets eliminated from your system.

However, I think the belief is that Vitamin C can work to prevent colds, not help you heal from them.

Darla, I'm very sorry about what you're going through with your family regarding your mom. It sounds like they are forgetting what is important in all of this; your mom...and family.

It's Sunday morning and I am still sick. But now, my flu symptoms have somehow turned into a really bad cold. So again, I'm miserable in a different way....fifth day in a row now and I do have to return to work tomorrow. I have my arsenal of cold/flu medicines I'm going to take today. Plus, I bought orange juice and cranberry juice at the grocery store yesterday. Does anyone know how much vitamin C is too much?

Darla:
Your son is making the right suggestion, especially if your Mom is at the point where she doesn't recognize you.

When my Mom passed away, I had to break away from the remaining relatives because they were crazy and abusive, also. It was far from easy, and from time to time they make efforts to find out where I live (or, rather, hunt me down) and then cause trouble (which happened again recently).

It's good that you have a son who cares about you, so try to focus on that.
(I have me and my dog, and I can't tell you how much I'd like to have someone to go to in case of an emergency, like now.)

I hope you can find the time, strength, and money to join your son, and get away from awful people who always make a bad situation worse.

PENNEY: INTERESTING. I JUST GOT NOTIFICATION FROM THE STATE OF WI THAT MY RETIREMENT CHECK WILL GO DOWN $50 A MONTH BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY ARE CALCULATING TAXES. THANKS A BUNCH. HERE IN WI OUR STATE TAXES ARE VERY HIGH. I DON'T THINK THE POWERS THAT BE ARE DEVOTED TO ANYTHING BUT PERPETUATING THEIR OWN STAYS IN OFFICE AND THAT INCLUDES HELPING THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR CAMPAIGNS. THAT'S WHY I'M IN FAVOR OF EVERY CANDIDATE GETTING THE SAME SPECIFIC AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR AN ELECTION AND NOT A DIME MORE. FIRSTLY, THAT MONEY COULD WELL BE SPENT ON SOMETHING ELSE. SECONDLY, ELECTED OFFICIALS WOULD BE INDEBTED TO NOBODY. AND THIRDLY, THEY WOULD HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO WORRY ABOUT GOVERNMENT RATHER THAN FUNDRAISERS FOR THE NEXT ELECTION.

OK ENOUGH. I'M GETTING DOWN FROM MY SOAP BOX.

GAIL

Enjoy each day.

Hello Everyone!
This situation with my Mom is very bad actually. I have 3 older brothers who have never done anything for her. It has always been me doing things for her. The one closest to my age is the Power of Attorney and if I get mad at him about anything with her then he wont' let me see her unless he is there and my other two brothers back him up. My Dad always protected me from all 4 of them but he died when i was 11 and they have been controlling and abusing me every since then. I moved away from all of them when i was 27 with my own family and have not even lived aroudn them since then but my brother did not help me with rent like i ask in 2000 and made me and my kids homeless and put me in a homeless shelter and a mental hospital when I didn't belong there! It has taken me since 2000 to get back on my feet again. It is a very crazy family. My Mom and brothers all have mental illness and my Mom has been addicted to prescription drugs my entire life and my brothers are all alcholics. None of them have had medications or treatment. I have been under a psychiatrist care for 22 years and had counseling so they all think I am the one that is crazy! lol I have 2 college degrees in Mental Health. I have worked 6 years with people with mental illness and substance abuse problems and worked for a year in two nursing homes as the Social Services Director so I have worked a lot with old people and watched them die. So I know what to expect with my Mom but they dont'. And they refuse to listen to me too. My son wants me to move to San Antonio with him and this is just stressing me out too much. There is nothing else that i can do for my Mom. We have been on lots of trips together and I realy have no regrest with her. She needs all her stregth to get through this and they are doing everything they can to keep me from seeing her. I am grievign a lot now. I have a close friend who is going through the same thing and I talk to her a lot and my counselor and some to Hospice. So I have lots of support!!! Thank you all for the kind words and support. I appreciate that so much. I am doing great thougth with my kids and that is my true family! We are very close and love to spend time together. My daughter is 28, and has my 3 year old granddaughter, my son is 26 and he is getting married in March to my daughter in law to be! So we are just focusing on that!!! Hope everyone has a great day today! Darla

I live far from Manhattan (an hour by train).
Most people can't afford to live in Manhattan.
The apartments are mostly condos, so they have to be bought (a mortgage payment + a high maintenance charge each month). I thought the Manhattan rental apartments cost in the $1,000s per month, but some of my students recently corrected me -- rent can be in the low $10,000s for a studio or one-bedroom in a "convenient" location.
I have to move soon, and I can only find possibilities in not-very-desirable areas far from Manhattan.

I posted the You-T freebie, too. It looks like they're pushing to promote the product as much as possible because I keep seeing their ads for free samples.

Good Morning Everyone,
I am still sick today, but slowly starting to feel a little better. I went into work yesterday in an attempt to help get those numbers up, and after being there an hour, the boss said he didn't want everyone else getting sick and I should make the call if I wanted to go home. Boy was that maddening. I drove 35 minutes just to be told to go home. I could've stayed in bed....argh!

But I went home and relaxed the best I could. This morning, still the cough and light aches and a little sinus stuff. I sure hope this is gone by Monday. Have a great day all!

My friend and I went to a Gilbert & Sullivan concert last night. It was quite unusual; the audience was invited to sing along with the chorus. I've never seen performers and audience interact so much. Everyone had a "jolly good time."

Hope to get to the gym today, yet again. I'm aiming for 15 times this month. That's just about every other day. I've 12 days under my belt so I need to go today, tomorrow and Monday to meet my goal.

I restarted the PT exercises for my arm a couple of days ago and the pain was terrible. Yesterday there was a noticeable improvement. Got to keep it up.

Enjoy your weekend.

emoticon Looks like some of us need some TLC and extra C to speed recovery!

Happy Friday, all! Northern Virginia got mildly socked by snow/rain/sleet/snow on Wednesday. It took a day to get everything moving again, like our rail system and buses. Fortunately, I didn't have to go out at all and I didn't. We have a new bathtub and we're putting replacement tile around it with a decorative accent tile bordering the original tile that survived the tub installation.

Kurt, my hat's off to you - the school systems shut down around here when there's any kind of bad weather. Too many problems with kids getting stranded at school or on the way home in the past. I think a few counties still had schools closed today.

Anyway, taking a break from tile installation and getting ready to serve up some beef barley soup before I get back to it. I won't have time to do any work on it tomorrow, so I need to get as much on as I can today.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Hi, everyone. I really like coming to this team page and hopefully, will be able to share new great tips; so far I am just reading them! We have snow here, a usual for the winter. We are warming today. NYC, well, lots of snow. Most trains are underground, which has got to help. I bet the parks are just gorgeous. Anyone have snowshoes? Do you like them? I would love to see Central Park with new snow.

Good Morning Team:

Two days ago we had problems with our computer, that were finally straightened out. Yesterday, I did part of what I planned for in the morning. When I tried to return at supper time, I couldn't seem to get to the team page. I could get to the orange and red tool bar at the top of the team page, but couldn't see any of the forums or topics.
Looks back to normal today. I see the population of our team has passed the 10,000 mark.

When I watch the weather reports on TV, I think of my spark friends when I have a general idea where so many of you are located. We have an inch and a half of new snow yesterday. More expected by Sunday. This is the longest period of time that we can remember of having snow on the ground continuously in many years. In fact, I think it has probably been over 25 years.

I reset my spark goals. It makes a lot of changes when this has been done. It kept my spark points and teams, but my nutrition & fitness history are gone. I do like the way it changed my MEAL PLAN choices. It had gotten so there were very few. Almost all the options were vegetarian in nature. I would say there are now 2-3 times as many of non-vegetarian options. Not sure how much I will use them, but I used to get meal ideas from the list.

I went over on my calories yesterday. But I am planning to do better today. Among other things, my tracker suggest to eat wild rice at noon today. I have some, so I am going to make some in my rice cooker now. It takes a while to cook.

Good Morning Everyone,
Well, I've been sick for two days. Yesterday, I stayed home from work because I was pretty sure I had the stomach flu and the body aches, cough, etc. Today, still the body aches and cough, but I'm going into work because the boss needs his end of month numbers. I won't complain too much because I do have a job, but seriously, this man tends to lean on the side of business more than health. I should be at home in bed today. Anyway, enough venting; I hope you all have a great day today!

NYC reportedly got hit with 18-20 inches of snow (it was actually about waist high in this area), but I made it to school -- even my train was running.
When I got to school, I found that most of the teachers and students were out. I had the largest classes (five students in each). Some of the other teachers "doubled up" classes to cover the teachers who were out -- they had two or three students after combining them. Management was appreciative of the teachers who made the effort to come in.
Then I got a couple of hours substituting at the school around the corner (they had the same predicament).
After school, I walked from W36th Street to E14th to get Vivi's favorite food (we hadn't been able to afford it, lately).
It's supposed to snow again tonight through tomorrow, but I have off (unless one of the schools calls up for me to sub).

Hi everyone! We had a rain/sleet/hail/thundersnow/snow storm yesterday here in northern Virginia. I stayed at home today and I've been helping my sweetheart with installing tile around our new bathtub. He's doing the measuring and mixing up the adhesive. I'm slopping the adhesive on the wall and placing the tile. It's slow going, but we're pleased with how it looks so far. At the rate I'm going, it may be Monday before we're finished!

Gail, if you're looking for classic movies from the 1930's, what about The Wizard of Oz, Singing in the Rain, Gone with the Wind, Meet Me in St. Louis? Have you seen all of those?

Good Morning:

It's snowing here and will probably continue all day today and tomorrow. That said, we are not expecting too much snow...a couple of inches. Also, it's quite mild, about 20F. I won't get out today, but I plan on restarting my PT exercises. I haven't done them in ages. Yesterday I told myself that on the days I didn't do cardio I'd do PT.

We saw Dinner At Eight last night. We got the DVD from the library. Can anyone recommend a good movie, preferably an oldie from the 1930's? I think it's a good idea to use the library resources as much as possible. After all, our taxes support it and it's so convenient to stay home and watch it when it suits us.

Stay warm and enjoy the day.

Gail

SRIVERS, Megan and PAPA: So sorry that you guys are under the weather. PAPA, maybe it's wise to just clean one room today. You don't want to overdo it, do you?

Kurt: Will check out the Valentine link. Thanks
Hope your day goes especially well.

Admiral: So glad you got to walk with Leslie yesterday. That's the ticket.

Enjoy each day.

Good Morning Everyone, I am trying to make it one. I believe I have the flu and bronchitis, so I'm home sick today. My head won't stop pounding, unfortunately, but I am going to take something for that soon. Stay warm everybody:)

Good Morning All! Feeling so much better today. Went to the doctor and had bronchitis. Just that time of year. Today I hope to get this nasty house started on a good cleaning. Being down for a week has left it in quiet a mess. Still can't do cardio yet, maybe tomorrow. Having a house full of college kids this weekend. Excited to see them all. Well up and at em before all my energy is gone. emoticon

I've found some FREE Vintage Valentine downloads:
TipNut's Printable Vintage (1920s-1930s) Valentines Collection --
-- Go to the page
-- Pass your mouse over the thumbnail illustration to see the sentiment;
-- Click on it to view the full-sized valentine;
-- Right-click on the full-sized valentine to download the image to your computer.

Lots of corny-but-cute sayings on vintage commercial art.

I won't need these because I'm going to hide for Valentine's Day, but I'm sure most of you could make good use of them. Have fun.

Hi everyone! We have LOTS of snow falling here in northern Virginia on top of the sleet and rain we just had half an hour ago! Crazy!

Woohoo for you, Gail!

Everything is canceled for my Wednesday evening church activities so we have a free night. I've enjoyed staying inside and getting my desk organized, doing laundry, and catching up on Sparkie news. I walked inside this morning with Leslie Sansone -- I never get tired of walking with her; she's such a happy soul.

Have a good evening and stay warm!

Good Afternoon:

I got out to the gym this morning and did the cross-trainer for 36 minutes...300 calories burned. Woo Hoo!

The rest of the day and evening I'll be a slug.

BTW, I got the DVD of Dinner at Eight (1938) from the library. Vic and I will watch it, hopefully tonight. I'm looking forward to it.

Enjoy the day everyone.

Gail

Enjoy each day.

WENT TO THE EYE DOCTOR TODAY & IT SEEMS MY RIGHT EYE HAS A CATARACT PLUS A ASTIGMATISM WHILE THE LEFT JUST HAS THE CATARACT. THAT'S PART OF THE REASON I'VE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY EYES. I'LL HAVE SURGERY ON 02/15 FOR THE RIGHT EYE & ABOUT A MONTH LATER FOR THE LEFT EYE. THEY HAVE A PAYMENT PLAN WHERE IF YOU PAY IT OFF IN 24 MONTHS YOU DON'T PAY INTEREST. THE ONLY GOOD THINGS I CAN THINK OF IT WE'VE PAID OFF TWO BILLS AND THE SURGERIES WILL BE OVER BEFORE SPRING! BUT, I ADMIT ---I'M RALLY SCARED! IT'S MY EYES. GUESS I'M JUST BEING A BABY! emoticon

I've got something from Coach Jen that was passed along from another team leader at another team (I haven't yet received one myself).
It seems that some SP members elsewhere have been complaining about the "Beautiful Woman" chain "letter" that has been circulating:

"Hi everyone
This is just a friendly reminder to please not pass along "chain" type SparkMails or comments on your SparkPage. There's one going around right now about being a beautiful person and passing it along to 3 other people you know. It's nice in theory, but can easily get out of hand.
I'd ask that you spread the word to prevent things like this from continuing.
Thanks!
Coach Jen"

Don't buy anything unless you really need it. If you need something, see if you can get it at no cost (freecycle) or at a reduced cost (Goodwill, Savers, St. Vincent, etc.)

Hi folks. I'm Katie...and I have been forced into frugality!

...But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it! I find purpose in the coupon cutting :) It's kind of fun, really, if I remember it's all just a game (even though I am unemployed and it's hard staying above water). it's been an exciting journey, learning.

SO I HAVE A QUESTION! What is your BIGGEST tip to frugality?

Cheers,
Katie

It comes down to a simple question: what do you want out of life, and what are you willing to do to get it?

There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man. ~Winston Churchill

I am new here and just found this team. I am so happy to find others who think like me. I try to recycle everything and can't bear to see things thrown away, especially food items. It was easier when I was living in the UK but I came over to the US recently and I am still getting used to life here. Am looking for a place to live.....help!!!!!

Had several fun/good days here...family came in over
the weekend. (We still have a lot of snow,
however the roads ere clear.) Did a couple little jobs for us ..much appreciated!
Monday went to lunch and mall with the "gals",
finally exchanged a couple things, and having the
receipt did well on picking up another sweater,
at quite a sale/bargain price.
Weather still cold and snowy...but when the sun's
out everything looks and feels so much better.
Hope all is fine and well with you and yours, Nan

Good Morning Frugal Friends. emoticon
At 7:45 a.m. Eastern, and it is just "first morning light." I assume it is brighter out in NYC.

Kurt emoticon I find your housing situation distressing. I am so sorry. You could find an affordable place here, but I doubt there are jobs.

Gail emoticon Hope you did well at the gym.
We have a recumbent stationary bike, that we have had quite a while. We find the gym more fun.

Terri - to addd to what you were saying to Darla - Hospice has such services - if the person qualifies. Also, organizations such as Alzheimer's support groups. Again - there is criteria. I have found that my mother's illness has brought conflict with different family members. Most of that has been resolved, but not in all cases.

Penny - had to look at your page to refresh my memory as to where you are. I have a granddaughter living to the west of St. Louis. Interesting to check to see what her weather might be.

PAPAMEME emoticon this is fresh chicken-rice soup with homemade stock. Hope you are feeling better.

SRIVERS1 emoticon & another bowl of soup for you.

Megan emoticon Your weather sounds similar to mine. Sorry about your DVD.

Hi all! Hope everyone is having a wonderful day! It is a balmy 44 here in East Texas today. Had a busy week last week. Went and spent time with my daughter and her family. Did not do my diet good. Came home and had to face the flu with my son. Now I have it too. Guess this week will be a lot of bed rest and not much working out. Stay warm and well everyone. emoticon

Darla, I hope you have someone to talk to in real life. I spent a year helping my sister-in-law as she went through cancer treatments. It gave us 12 months with her that we wouldn't have had if she'd refused the treatments and it was easy to stay upbeat and positive while she was with us--but afterwards, the grief just crept in on me like a fog. I didn't expect it and didn't really have anyone to talk to about it--I just cried and prayed constantly. It may be helpful to read some things about the whole process so that you aren't blindsided by the effects of grief afterwards. It won't stop it, but it may help if you know what to expect.

I hope to get to the gym today. Have some errands to run too.

Yesterday I worked out for 35 minutes and burned 311 calories...WOO HOO.

Gail

Darla: I wish you well. Just wanted to say I grieved for my mom before she died. She had cancer and it was a great struggle to face her without letting her know my inner torment day after day. My mom had her mind till the very end. By the time she died I was all cried out and numb. You're in my thoughts.

Kurt: I wish you all the good luck you need. My heart goes out to you. I cannot imagine what you are going through.

Enjoy each day.

7.8 degrees in NYC.
I just found out that I'll have to move in about 2 months or so, which is not going to be easy since I'm having difficulty keeping up with expenses as it is now. In fact, I really don't know how I'm going to do it, so wish me luck.

emoticon Good Morning Team. We have fresh snow again.

Teri, hope you got lots of rest.

Darla,Sounds like some things are getting better. Time helps with acceptance of the way things are with your mother. I am dealing with similar problems.

Megan, I am having a heat wave. It is up to 20.7 degrees.

I just printed the coupon for Kellogg's Fiber Plus cereal. It is in the ads on some of the spark screens. I found mine on my nutrition page. It expires February 7th.
