There are four common missteps and three tips to a fast bike cleanup. Here are the 4 bummers to avoid along with three tips to make tidying up a cleaner experience.

1. Too-quick Start:
*Don't skip initial rinse
*Use light shower setting on spray nozzle, spray off entire bike top to bottom before going near a bike with a soapy sponge.

2. High-pressure Hazard:
*Too much pressure and you can force water (soapy degreaser-laden water) into bearings

3. Goldilock Finish:
*Last step is to re-lube the chain. Stop short-chain rusts, too heavy-chain will attract grime like a magnet. Give just the right amount and wipe off excess with a clean rag.

4. Slip From Shinola:
*Polishing products like Armour All are not for bikes. Shine your saddle-hard time staying seated. Glossy rims and rim residue will reduce breaking power.

Keep it simple. Clean the drive train first. If you use a de-greaser, remove rear wheel and angle it with cassette side down so degreaser runs off. Work from the top to the bottom and front to back. Use a bucket of warm soapy water and a soft-bristled handheld brush...the kind usually sold with a dust pan. Rinse, wash, rinse and then dry with a clean cloth. Lube the chain and admire!

This article is from Bicycling Magazine. Thought it might be useful due to all of the nasty weather being experienced by many.
