Your post caught my eye because I live in CO and know Rachel and REALLY know Frank! I have started and stopped a few times on Sparkpeople, but this is the first time I've actually been consistent. I've lost 44 pounds, but I still have a long, long way to go. I hope that by setting up my own profile and checking in with real people here will help! I've danced at Elevation a couple of times. Part the motivation for me to shed some pounds is because I had to give up teaching and performing because of my knees. I hope to have them scoped soon and combined with the weight loss, I can shimmy sooner than later... or never.

Petraks - Sounds like you're doing great with the weight loss & fitness. Definitely a reason to go out and buy a new bra & belt set!

Mixed blessing- I sold one bra and belt because it was too big for me now. I have another that I think will have to go soon. You just can't take them in but so much. Guess That means one of my rewards better be a new set... emoticon

A quiet forum huh?

A year ago I survived 3 hours of Rachel's workshops (three posts down from here). This year I survived two of Rachel's workshops, one by Frank Farinaro, and one by Dahlia. I also got to PERFORM at Elevation - a huge deal to this lil' chica! (It also helps to study with the Elevation home tribe...) So much fun, so much work... next year I will take more workshops and hopefully get to perform again!

I will say that Rachel's workshops were AMAZING. Her energy was so inclusive, intense, and uplifting. We worked our tails off and laughed our heads off at the same time.

It took almost 2 months to get ready for Elevation and then I had our annual recital the following weekend for my cabaret group. This weekend I have NOTHING planned except chillin'.

I had a photo shoot of me in my favorite costumes and put the pictures on Facebook. I'm amazed at the number of people that have told me I'm looking good. And I've learned to just say Thanks (with no additional comments..)

Wow, I do not have it in me to do a RB workshop yet. I think it's my survival instinct! emoticon

As I was feeling sad to be missing Tribal Fest again(I had planned on being back there this year, since I had moved out of the area in 2008), I finally bought my sword! It's also my first Mother's Day gift(nothing says, "I love you!" like a sharp, pointy object).

Now I have yet another thing to work on incorporating into my dance! Woo-hoo!

I just performed with a local drumming group I joined last summer when I moved here. They're really helping me with my zil playing, and to interact with other dancers and their particular styles. It was a celebration for Earth Day, and it felt great! I have never been so nervous performing before, it was strange!

I'm a fluffy girl that's just really getting into dance at all~ and tonight in class...I got really hot and had a sports bra under my shirt, so I took it off. That's the huge triumph. The small one is that one of my friends in class said "look at her six pack" when I was doing chest drops. Ok...so I wouldn't agree with "six pack" but I have an ab in there that I can see a shadow of...woo hoo!

Last week Monday, I did a guest performance at a friend's class. As I danced, I realized, I had lost enough weight so my tied hip-sash was too big. Consequently, it started to slip. It was caught on video and it makes me laugh!

Not only does my sash start to fall, but the videographer cuts off my head too! But I'm saving this video - me dancing at the half-way point of my wieight loss. The moment was captured on video - if you've got the time, you could download it and take a peek... It's an uncompressed MP4 and may take 3-5 min.

Yeah for half way and falling sashes!

Not necessarily a success but a benefit...

I'm volunteering for the Elevation 2010 event in Golden, and in exchange I get to take any workshop I want. My choice? Creating Fusion Choreography with Rachel Brice.... SQWEEEEEE!!!! Being in the Intermediate class has it's privileges... emoticon

The workshop is 3 hours long, so I have a month to get my butt in shape for the challenge.

I go a class once a week, Wednesday evenings, held in a school gym. We started as "beginners level 1" in September - there were about 25 of us. Now we're going from "beginners level 2" to "beginners level 3", and there are 12 or so of us left... tho we all know each other now. I like the fact that I've learned a new skill - and it might save my life one day in some very strange set of circumstances...

I try to practice during the week but don't always manage it.

Last week the gym was set up for exams so we had to go to one of the school studios that had a mirror along one wall... I'd not had a class in front of a mirror like that before and it was very distracting. I noticed that my "form" for doing the moves was quite good but I looked very very dumpy! In the end I had to stop looking as I was putting myself off. We're back in the gym next week!

I went to my level 1 class (my fourth class) this morning, and my instructor asked me to stay for the level 2 class immediately after! It was tough, but I held my own.

My second class was last night...the instructor was observing our drills and said to me, "You've done this before, yes?" Nope. (Not unless you count at home with my DVD about four times, but I don't think that's what she meant.)

So I posted in July that I would be joining the local studio after dragging my feet about finding a new teacher after my move...well it took a while but I finally joined this year just in time for the first class of the year! And I'm so glad I did! I missed classes so much and I'm having so much fun. It's still a little nerve-wracking for me because I don't know anyone and feel really shy, but people already smile and wave and offer friendly advice. Plus my teacher is really good and very friendly. So that's my little success -- getting up the courage to join a new studio.

New to posting with you all, you all seem real sweet. Hi everybody, I'm Angela.

I love to dance. I've studied ATS belly dance on and off for 5 years, Hula, street samba, and then waltz as well. Hadn't been to BD class in several months, been sparking like crazy and have made some real strides in my weight loss. Went back to belly aerobics last night, it was awesome! I really felt like I could do alot of moves that I couldn't do before. Like I could access the muscles used with intention. One of the best classes ever!

There is a Hafla Monday, and I told my teacher that I will do a piece in it! A solo!

Eat food, not too much. mostly plants.

The body was not meant to sit. We are made to move!

I survived my first real performance this weekend. I was in two group numbers, one with a veil and one balancing a fire tray. I am happy to say that I neither tripped over my veil nor dropped my tray. I didn't even fall into the orchestra pit! We all remembered our choreography and the audience went crazy for us. It was a blast!

Don't you just love compliments from strangers? That's why I like to give them all the time.

I had a tiny accomplishment- despite a lot of emotional eating (& a lot of Halloween candy leftover because it rained) I didn't gain any weight! I actually lost some since March!
Now I all psyched to start tracking again!

We did our fan routine yesterday, one that four of us out of the 6 learned in 6 weeks (the teacher usually takes 6 months to teach it.) I was uber-nervous because I was in the front middle position emoticon . Well I didn't screw up (hooray!!), though my big sleeves caught on my candle arms, and afterward a complete stranger walked up to me and said I was great emoticon Cloud 9!!!

Race for the Cure - awesome experience!

My little itty bitty compliment in class last night. I think I've mentioned that some of us from the beginner group were put into the advanced intermediate class, and we have basically two years of class work to catch up on. Well last night I was the only person from that group in our class, but when there were questions of positions and placement, the teacher asked ME where folks were supposed to be. I was a little surprised, but it seemed to mean that my teacher thinks I am paying more attention than the other students. :-)

My dazzling success: About four months ago I made it into our local dance troupe and I was very excited. Well, I passed the probation period! I was told that I improved a lot and with some tweaks here and there (working on hands and facial expressions and layering) I could really go far with my dancing. I honestly didn't know I was that good but it made me feel so much better.

OK - been training and I can now run just over 3 miles!

I am participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday to help raise money for breast cancer research. I have walked it for the past 4 years, but this year I plan to run.

I found some great new music that inspires me, and the perfect one for my sword Halloween piece :D AND I checked today and have lost 2 pounds!! (I just started this thing, it may be all of the water) Yipeeee!!

I also have been working on building my strength for floorwork, so I can really tell a measurable difference in my quads and abs (though I still have a ways to go)

I'm excited that I found some great music to practice to, I actually dance around in my kitchen to it :) Gotta start somewhere, maybe this week I'll break out the practice videos :)

I was wearing a pair of jeans I got a year ago, when I'd gained weight again and needed a pair I could wear comfortably. I've lost enough weight now that I can get them off over my hips...without unzipping or unbuttoning them!

Went to the beach with my 22 y/o son, his 13 y/o sister, and his 13 y/o cousin. We played soccer on the beach and I kept up pretty darn well.

Hi Everyone,

Well I dropped 2 pounds! I am out of the 180's and onto tackling the 170's. Bellydancing is really helping.

Good morning Everyone,

Well I lost one pound this week which sets into my goal. More important is the fact I found a new belly dance instructor!!!!! I am really happy, because she really makes me feel like I can learn how to dance and maybe in the future I can actually join one of her troupes! Anyway her classes are twice a week (which rocks) and her prices are really reasonable for the area she works out of.

wish me luck! Hope everyone here has a wonderful weekend!

Tonight is my last class as a beginner bellydancer.

I'm leapfrogging straight to Intermediate starting Monday - woohoo! It will take a ton of practice and work but I am soooo psyched!!! emoticon

Our annual student show is on Saturday night too - getting excited. My friend and I are the only beginners doing a duet, and then we are doing the veil number with the rest of the class. It'll be an awesome "graduation"!

My tiny success: I can FINALLY do a shimmy with an undulation while walking around the room playing my zils. Now, it wasn't a difficult zil pattern, but I was zilling just the same. The shimmy and undulations were juicy though :)
