I agree totally! There is so much passion in the story yet it leaves much to the imagination. That is refreshing and makes for a very romantic scenario. One of the theories from the book is that Edward and his "family", especially Carlisle, have developed a sense of compassion for the weaker "man" and really are seen as immortal Good Guys! I like that thought!

Honestly for me, it was many different things. I'm 36 so I'm close with you all. One thing would be the forbidden innocent love, you don't see that innocence anymore. Everything is about sex, sex, sex... Second thing is the growth of the character, Bella. She's not like the "typical" teenage girl, she made it a great thing to not be the "typical" teenage girl. Third, it was the romance that Edward can be "old fashion", you don't see that anymore. Fourth, I saw myself in Bella. Stephanie Meyer really nailed the teenage "special" girl.
Now with the movies, they do hold up on their own and Edward didn't fit the Edward I saw in my head but after watching him on screen. I knew they picked the right Edward. Jacob was right on the dot. Bella was also right on the spot. I love the movies but the books are my all time favorites.

I think it is for me but the book gives all sorts of reasons. I will post them as I read them. One theory I have read so far is the immortality thing. They have also discussed the forbidden love thing as well. And, Terri, I definately agree with you. Edward was much cooler in my mind.....

So, what is it about? I'm not that far behind you in the age thing (50) and I feel the same way! It's a freaking obsession! Edward was hotter in my mind, though.......

I just bought the book, The Philosooy Behind Twilight and it is very enlightening. Bought it because I need to know why a 54 year old almost retired school teacher is caught up in the whole vampire/werewolf thing! Crazy!!!! (Could it be the HOT guys??)
