Hi!

I was just wondering if anyone is still active on this page. I live in Marlborough, and have quite a bit of weight to lose. Looking for a buddy to walk with, etc. I see a lot of the people here are into quilting and crocheting...both of those are loves of mine.

Thanks,
Rachel

TangyT : YES, Waltham is MetroWest. I used to work in Waltham, so it counts! :)

And WELCOME! I find that support really helps and especially when you see people with similar goals... it seems that we all have similar goals here, to change our lives and get healthier! Check in with us often! I promise to do the same.

Just found this message board, I am trying to join different teams every week. Your it this week. I picked this team for two reasons, first I live in the Metrowest area as well -I think - is Waltham considered Metrowest?;-}. And second, I noticed that the people on this team have the same weight loss goal as I do. Thanks GCHUNG, I can see from your ticker that it is possible!! emoticon

Just joined this team. :) I am in Natick, and have lived here since 2000 when I graduated from college. You guys are all very inspirational and I wish you all the very best of luck!

I work at Curves of Natick, and have been a member there since 2003 when they opened. I joined Spark in June, so I can finally drop the weight I've been carrying around since I had my son in 2005. I have lost 6 lbs since joining spark and I am very happy, but I know I have more to go!

Just saying hello! :)

By the dates of the posts here it looks like I am a little late joining the team...but I just found it today. I have lived in the Metrowest area all my life. Fall is a great time to be an active person in the Metrowest area - I'm loving the nice cool weather for outdoor runs with gorgeous foliage to keep me company!!

I became a mommy to the most precious girl in the world on December 31, 2013.

Rose,
My girls are grown now but I remember too well the days. Does your son like to walk? The girls liked to walk, sometimes 2X per day, after breakfast and after dinner, it helped to keep us all in shape.
Any case I realized after I mentioned a walking buddy that it might be near to impossible to do with my schedule as well.

I've done WW in the past too, and did well with it.

I'd love to find a walking buddy also, I'm in Ashland. But being a single parent, my schedule is tough, I can only get out and walk a couple of times a week, otherwise I exercise at home.

Linda, What an incredible accomplishment! Congrats! emoticon

Hey Lauren, I live and work in Framingham, we're practically neighbors.

Hey Rose, Wow, sounds like you did really well on the program. This is my first go round with SP but I've tried WW a couple of times. I know how hard it can be to get back on track.

Everyone - I'm looking for a walking buddy, don't know if anyone is interested?
Take good care,
Laurel

Hi all,

I'm kind of reintroducing myself here. I started in January and did really well for a couple of months, losing 18 pounds. I was checking in here regularly and keeping track of food and fitness. Then I derailed for about the last 6 weeks and am trying hard to get back on track.

One of the things I need to start doing is taking my measurements. I also do a lot of walking as my exercise, as well as some tae bo, and I know that even if the scale doesn't want to budge, it's still making a difference and taking those measurments can help me stay motivated.

I am also a bit of a crafter. Lately I've been mostly scrapbooking (trying to oranize all the pictures since my 8 year old was born!) and knitting. Now I'm trying to learn to crochet. I'd love to start quilting, but I'm not sure where to begin.

Rose

Sara - I also stumbled on this page - I never know how I end up in places when I'm surfing this site. I continually click on things or other peoples pages which spark an interest and usually find something surprising, a new recipe, a blog I can relate to or yet one more team that I might be interested in. I actually had to go through my teams a week or two ago and removed the ones which appeared to be inactive just so I can keep my focus on the groups which had active people.

I have come to the conclusion my scale is fickle.

emoticon I am glad I take my measurements "officially" at the end of each month. It reinforces to me that I'm making progress even if the scale does't move too much.

One of my goals was to get my hips under 40 inches. I don't think I've been there since well before my last child was born. (Did I mention he just got his driver's license). Well unofficially I made it last night - barely. emoticon

So I'm going to keep walking and keep moving those measurements so I'm 30-something 20-something 30-something. And yes I'll keep an eye on that scale but it won't bother me as much if I can get those measurements where I'm hopeing to be.

Total Loss in inches

Knee 2.5
Thigh 5.25
Hips 6.25
Waist 7.25
Bust 5.25
Upper chest 4.5
Neck 1.5
Upper Arm 1.75

Total lost 34.25

Hi, I posted on the "introduce yourself" forum, but I'll do it here too.

I live in Natick, work in Sudbury, go to church (First Parish UU) in Framingham... I'm just MetroWest all over the place.

I love the idea of a local forum. I found it on AWESOMEFOREVER's sparkpage... thanks for the tip! And I have to second the WOW and "Phenomenal" sentiments GChung expressed. I am in awe of your success. And inspired by it too.

Ginny you have the motivation that I need. I wish my kids were still young enough to be home. I would love to use an ipod and go walking.

I live in Marlborough. I do not sew. I did. But gave the machine to my son in law years ago. He sews patchwork. His home country is Senegal.

I have lost a lot of weight and want to sew again. I figure it I try small I may start making pants that fit as I slim down. Oh no, I had to erase an e on the end of slim. How did that word get there?

I am so happy for the backspace!

We actually have treadmills, stationary bikes, and ellipticals where I live in Avalon Orchards complex on Route 20. I just would like a buddy to go with me. I would be more motivated to go. I hope I can figure out the elliptical!

I worship in Sudbury at the United Methodist Church and deliver mail in Framingham. So, I guess I have some of you in the Metrowest group covered.

My husband used to deliver newspapers to the carriers down in Milford, Franklin etc. We both worked for the local newspaper when it was on Route 30 and then up at the Mountain. Back when it was called the Framingham News.

I have been at dieting for many years. I now am with 50 pounds of an ideal weight. I had RNY surgery at NWH. It was Dr Gazmuri who performed the operation. His assistant talks on the radio commercial, Dr Partridge. Have you heard it?

I look so much better now.

People are always complimenting me.

I love it.

Now to firm some of the body so I love it better.

This is the 2nd time I've tried SP. The first time I had joined a gym to swim and I only used some of the tools online. I did not join any teams and tried to do it all myself. My husband and kids have not had my struggle with weight so although it was Go Mom at home it was hard for them to relate. I lost 20 then lost interest in SP.

This time I rejoined at the beginning of the year with a new attitude. I'm going to do this. I didn't like myself physically and it was affecting me mentally. I realized although a gym was great, getting to the gym was the problem for me. I realized if I had to get in a car to go somewhere to do my exercise it wouldn't happen. I would find excuses. So this time around I stole (heheh) my daughters ipod, filled it with Country and Rock music and strapped on a pair of sneakers and started walking. I started slow - 10 minutes and now am up to 50+ minutes and 3 miles. I also immersed myself in this site. Reading the articles, joining the teams and now 4 mos later I'm as enthused as when I rejoined. I added strength exercises to my routine. My goal is to lose 3 pounds a month, if I lose more I'm ecstatic but I'm trying to set appropriate expectations for me. I find if I miss my walk I can feel the difference. I use my walking time to give ME some time to think , plan or day dream. My physical shape has gotten stronger, my mental attitude has improved. Overall I love the change and want to lose another 10 pounds.

Phew - I feel like a commercial. Attitude and commitment. If you get discouraged logon and someone online will help you over the bump.

Ginny,
Ellie is one of the nicest people I know! I don't use my real name when I'm on line so she wouldn't know me by Laurel.
I found the Watercolor quilting book I was looking for on Amazon and ordered it yesterday. I can't wait to start planning my quilt.
If you don't mind me asking, what is the secret to your weight loss? I've done WW in the past and am thinking that I should probably go back. I've got quite a lot to loose (70 lbs). I was doing well, going to the gym 4 days a week and WW but only lost about 15 lbs and got discouraged. I've gained the 15 lbs back after I stopped going to the gym. I would like to work out at home with small weights and do some pilates as well. Getting motivated is an issue right now. Any advise would be appreciated.
Laurel

Ellie from the FP tlod me about the guild and I just showed up one meeting. I didn't know what to bring but Ellie told me to bring one of my quilts to show which I did. It normally starts with business end then people do their show. It seems there are varied level of skills and everyone is working on different projects. They are talking about putting together a show next year. They also do charity quilts for the Milford Cancer Center.

I love seeing other peoples works they are so varied and give me ideas. Outside the first night I have not brought anything to show. I guess I'm just not comfortable showing people my work - although everyone is very complimentary. It's just me.

I'm planning to go to FP tonight to buy some material for a bargello quilt I heard about here in another team. I am constantly trying different techniques.

I can ask Ann about bead work she might know of some groups who are doing that stuff locally.

Ginny,
Thank you so much for the flowers! I had just discarded the flowers I received while in the hospital when your fresh bouquet arrived! What a nice surprise!
I think I'd like to try the quilting group, what do I need to bring to the meeting? Are you making a traditional quilt? I've always wanted to make a "watercolor quilt" they look a lot like a Monet painting.
Does your husband's friend do Lamp Work? I bought some Lamp Work beads last spring that I haven't yet stung together. Too many UFOs (unfinished objects) in my life. I love creative arts but don't like doing them alone as much as in a group setting or with friends. My sister and I would bead for hours on end. She lives an hour and a half away and just so hard to find the time now.
Thanks again for the flowers!

My husband's boss is into glass work that's the closest I know of anyone doing bead work.

If you want to go check out the quild I joined it meets at Southborough library 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 7:00 downstairs.

I started quilting 18 months ago as a way to teach myself how to sew. Now it has become an obsession. I'm in no ways a perfectionist but I really enjoy the hobby. Thinking about going back to FP tonight as I have to p/u fabric for the new quilt I'm planning - which is abstract and it looks great on paper - let's hope i can transfer it to reality.

Ginny,
I love all things FABRIC! In fact I worked at the FP in the 90's in Home Decorating Dept. I've made a patchwork quilt (many moons ago) and would love to work on something a bit more challenging - any ideas? My daughter just started to quilt with her soon to be mother-n-law (I felt a little left out but I'm happy that they have a good relationship). I got into making jewellery a couple of years ago and have quite a stash of semi precious stones and beads. I would love to find a group of beaders in the area - do you know any?

Laurelette - I'm in Framingham a lot, actually yesterday at Fabric Place. I recently joined a quilt guild that meets in Southborough as I'm teaching myself a new hobby. I'm not quite an empty nester but getting close to there with a dau in collage and a son just getting his license to drive - eek.

Hi all,
I'm recuperating from oral surgery (a pre cancerous condition) and I'm not able to talk very well and eating is a real challenge. I've begun to savor every ounce of chicken broth I consume as if it were some gourmet delight. I obviously like to eat, I've battled with my weight most of my life but I really don't recall ever thinking this much about food. I'm hoping that this experience will help me to slow down when I'm actually able to eat real food again (currently on smoothies and broth) and truly enjoy eating for the nutrition and pleasure.

Hi all, I'm currently living in Marlborough - near the Sudbury line. I was looking for a Massachusetts team to find out more what the locals were doing. I've rejoined SP in January and a pound from my first goal of 30 pounds. I'm hoping to set my 2nd goal of another 10 pounds soon. I would love to get down to the weight I was before my youngest was born - oh wait - he just got his license today - so you can do the math and figure out how long I've been struggling with this added weight.

I try walking 2-3 miles a day - usually the back roads near my home. I came to the conclusion on a previous journey to get healthy - if I have to get in my car to exercise it won't happen. So I stole my daughter's ipod, strapped on sneakers and walk. Its been working so far for me. Amazingly 4 months later I'm still pumped to continue down this road.

Hello everyone, I just joined SP yesterday, and I am still familiarizing my self with it. This seems like a slow team, but hopefully there are still a few around.

I am from the hopedale/milford area, not far from marlboro or franklin.

I agree wholeheartedly about SparkPeople. It is awesome, though it's making me keep logging in every different page I go to on the site. It's weird!
I just signed up for the couch to 5K team and am going to sign up for a 5K in April. Once it gets a bit warmer I will start walk/running outside, if you have any interest in joining me!

I like the Clock Tower - I think it's a beautiful complex. I have kids, so we swim at Thoreau in the summer and they gave me a very good deal to extend the membership for all year. I use the kids programs a lot for my son. (That's how I justify the expense - I agree it is not cheap).

I am so impressed with this SparkPeople website. This is great for my motivation. This place must be the best fitness deal anywhere.

It's supposed to be less than an inch, so no worries. Gold's is in Maynard at the Clock Tower building and in Concord not far from West Concord Square. I can't afford the Thoreau club! Bummer.

Hi Jessica - I belong to the Thoreau Club. Where is the Golds Gym?

It seems to be snowing this morning. I hope it's not supposed to amount to much.

Hi - I just joined Spark People this week. I like the tracking and the accountability. I'm still trying to find my way around and figure everything out.

I live in Sudbury, MA. It's nice to see nearby people, and I'd like to join you.

Pam

Sign me up too! I can use every bit of motivation I can get, and having people in my area working toward the same goals will help keep me on track (hopefully). I just started Tuesday 1/15, but I feel like I'm more committed to doing this now than I've been before. Here's hoping we all help each other reach our goals!

Sure! I live in Marlborough, work in Hopkinton, and grew up in Medway. I'd say Franklin's in the neighborhood!

HI all,

Just thought I'd say "hey" and start on this weight loss effort one more time. Hopefully the last time.

I like seeing peeps from the same area, though. How cool is that?

So, happy New Year to everyone. Was it cold today or WHAT!? emoticon

I actually miss shoveling...it was good, "easy" workout for me. Now my apartment has snow removal so I might have to go out there and volunteer!

Hey all, we received 4 1/2 inches of snow on Monday, thankfully it was my day off...I opted for the shovel over the snowblower and counted it as my workout for the day. emoticon

I know a lot of people suffered some major material losses - two triple deckers and one news report said up to 40 cars - but it's truly a miracle that no one was injured or killed.

It immediately made me think back to the Danvers explosion. Unreal.

It was incredible...my gf drives right through the rotary where the accident happened every day on her way to work. There are HUGE oil tanks no more than 100 yds where the accident happened. They very narrowly avoided what could've been an enormous disaster!

I'm too far away, in Marlborough.

I work for a disaster recovery company, and our guys were heading over there early this morning to see if we could do anything to help.

Could anyone else see the smoke from the tanker accident in Everett this morning. I could see the smoke clear as day and I'm in Medford.

I'm SO not ready for snow!!! I could only find one glove this morning, so I froze while scraping off my car.

Thank god for remote car starters! LOL!

I created this team during a slow time at work on Friday, then I was away from my computer all weekend. My apologies!

I promise to make a more in-depth post tonight, but I wanted to welcome you to the team. I look forward to meeting all of you!
