Hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer! Drop in here and let us know what you've been up to!
I'm using this summer to work towards a goal that I'd never thought I would set for myself. I decided I want to run a 1/2 marathon by my birthday this year, and hopefully that will propel me towards training for and running a marathon next year. I've got less than 4 weeks left to train and it has been going great for the most part. I'm dealing with a bit of a sore shin this week, but that's been my only issue so far. I find I really love having a training plan. It has grounded me and I am finally disciplined with my running. Instead of heading out with an idea of how far or long I want to run (and usually allowing myself to cut it short when I'm feeling tired), I look at my plan and just do what it says to do. What a difference!

We had a horrible storm last night and our yard is a mess. So I will get my exercise tomorrow by cleaning up the yard. See pictures on my blog.

Sorry to hear that Pudge. Got my walk in, even though it was sprinkling a bit. I think the poison ivy on my feet and ankles is mostly gone, no itches yesterday and today has been the same! emoticon

Hope to get on the exercise bike tonight. Getting orthotics for my shoes so my feet should be happier---hope to postpone surgery on my toes as long as possible....sure hope they help that as well!!

No storms here - must have been south?

Did a lot of running around this weekend and finally found time for a run yesterday. Ran 4.25 miles with my husband on the local trail near our house. Pace was good - ran without stopping and still had energy when we stopped for our cool down. :)

Worked out with weights at the gym this morning. Still in my workout clothes as I work at the office for a bit... hoping to get out for a bike ride this afternoon. Once I shower and change, that's it for me for the day.

Spending today cleaning my house and keeping an eye on DH. Have been in the ER for the last 2 days because he keeps having horrible nosebleeds that we cannot stop. He has an inflatible packing today but every time he talks or swallows it starts oozing again. Not sleeping because I am afraid it will open up again and he will choke in his sleep.....we have to hang on until Tues. when he has an appt. with an Ear, Nose, and Throat Dr.

If it does start bleeding again we go back to the ER for emergency surgery. This has been a rough time....................hope to have some good health for both of us when we get past this!!

A nap sure sounds like a good idea after all that time in the pool Becky! Swimming is exhausting!

Nothing yet for me today - spent a lot of time on little tasks today. My daughter has a one hour lesson tonight and I'll use the free time to either take a walk or do the grocery shopping. :/

Water walking/jogging for an hour, Swam 3/4 mile after a good hour water exercise class, then 20 minutes on the NuStep. I'm Tired!

That is a good idea, thanks. For the last week or so I have had an inner ear infection as well, so I am at a standstill. Too dizzy to really do anything. I did get in a walk with the dog Tues and Wed, but today was getting a bit unsteady again. I do not like this at all, hope the antibiotics kick in real soon!!! This stinks!

Cheri Ann.....and anyone else with knee or any leg problems. Now that the weather is nice, hit the pool. Water is great for the joints and walking in water (at a good pace) for 10 minutes is equal to one mile on land. Plus you have the benefit of the resistance of the water. I can barely walk on land but I can spend 3 hours in the pool 3 days a week and swim a mile after a water aerobics class. Check out in your area and see if the Y or Red Cross offer any classes for you.

Sorry to hear about your knee. Its much easier for me to work on fitness when the weather is nice. I walked to the gym this morning, worked out, and then gardened for several hours. It looks like it is going to rain now, which will be good for the plants. Keep the faith. To me, exercise is the key.

Not been posting on this group, thought I might start again. I am limited right now as to how much I can do as I injured my knee a couple of months ago and am waiting for it to heal. Need to get back to doing something besides walking the dog though.

Every time I get on a roll something seems to come up. Last year had gall bladder issues and they diagnosed me with reflux as well, had the gall bladder removed after a very long year of ER visits and testing, then learning what I can eat and when and what I am not allergic to that I can take to help. Oh, and I had vein surgery as well.....not a fun year. As soon as this leg heals completely I am going to push hard, but for now I will have to take it easy and start working on the upper half instead for a bit longer.....

New to the team :) Decided...again, I needed to do something to get this weight off. Kept telling myself its "baby fat" (my youngest is 5..lol) Anyway, had my gallbladder out 3 weeks ago and havent had pop or caffine since. Lost 5lbs so far just from that. Doesnt help either my body kicking back 80% of EVERTHING I eat. But I have promised myself a weight goal of 20lbs to start.....130 is the main goal (gained 100 from medicine i was on)

Hi this is Ruth . I am not used to reply and I'm learning how to use my computer so everybody bear with me please I am like I read tonight. I wish you would warm up I am tired the cold and the rain I worked in my yard today and plant flowers hopefully they will do good if I can keep the dears out of them and the malls I am going to try to keep walk and I got my over my 10,000 steps in today and hopefully it will work on helping me to lose my weight hope everybody had a happy Easter and will talk to you later bye-bye.

I'm a TOPS member from Woodford County. We are trying to contact other TOPS people in Il who might want to go to Milwaukee IRD in July by chartered bus. For those of you who aren't familiar with TOPS, it is a wt loss support group. IRD is like a convention to recognize and award those who have reached their wt loss goals. Greene County, IL began with an ice storm on Monday. We are recovering from a devastating blizzard which dropped about 15 inches on us. Wednesday was a snowing and blowing day. Finally, Thursday was a really cold day with a -19 degree windchill. The kids and I were back in school on Friday. Settling into a 5 day routine was tough. The kids were wonderful though. I especially enjoyed shoveling snow and making paths here and there. I drove my little S-10 4 x 4 out a tenth of a mile which is the length of our driveway as I wanted to be assured we could get out. The snow was higher than my truck in some of the drifts getting to my house out in rural Illinois. It was fun, and I have heard we are having more of this in March. Well, stock your refrigerators with fresh vegetables and your freezers with chicken and turkey breasts. Drink your water and exercise. Don't let the beauty of it all get you down; I enjoyed it and needed the additional rest and catch up time.

Warm weather is supposedly on the way! I hope its true. I'd be happy with above freezing. I went to my first Cardio Kick-boxing class this week. It was the hardest workout I've ever done... and I can't wait for more.

Hope everyone is staying warm... we're expecting a super cold blast overnight here in Northern Illinois! I don't know about you all, but I'm really looking forward to warmer weather so that I can get outdoors and enjoy a bike ride! Gonna just have to settle for spin classes til then. With the new year came some changes to the sparkteam page layouts. You will now find the huddle on the right side of the page under the Team Stream. The Team Stream is a very cool feature, although I've noticed it's being accepted with some reluctance on a few other teams. It's nice that you can filter the stream to show just what you want it to. And clicking on the stream will stop it from moving (the movement itself has caused quite a stir on the leaderboards! lol!)

I try to be positive anytime the site makes a change as it is a blessing to have all this site offers for FREE!!! The administrators have their vision and it's certainly their right to play around with the layouts and make changes as they see fit! The changes never seem to take long to get used to, and for the most part they seem to be well received :)

A very common question! Here's the answer directly from the site under HELP/Frequently asked questions:

1. Go to the SparkPages tab.
2. Click Create a New SparkPage (or View Your SparkPage, then Edit SparkPage if you already have one).
3. Complete the information for the title and description of your SparkPage. Your SparkPage can also be used as a personal homepage to share information about yourself with other members. If you don't want to have your SparkPage available to others, you can check the box to keep your page private (offline).
4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the weight loss ticker.
5. Check the box that says "Yes, show my weight loss ticker."
6. Put in your starting weight and goal weight. Please note that your current weight on your ticker will update automatically when you weigh in, but we will not update your ticker starting and goal weight if you change your goals on your program; you'll need to update starting and goal weight on your SparkPage.
7. Select your ticker icon.
8. Select your ticker background.
9. Click "Save Changes" at the bottom or top of the page.
