I went with the Garmin 550 b/c it is water resistant and has walking/hiking/etc. modes as well. We used it on vacation and it was wonderful having IT watch for our next turn so that we could just enjoy the ride.

I also like that it tells us the speed limit as well. So if you miss the sign, you can just look at the GPS (except for all the construction zones, of course)

I did find that I had to add in extra stopping points a time or two to get it to take the route 'I' wanted to take.

Overall... I'm so glad I got it, but also glad I took a map with me as well.

Thanks everyone for the great advice.

I've had a Garmin for years and absolutely love it. Only drawback is that I've become reliant on it and sometimes forget how to get to where I've already been without it. emoticon

I've gotten some good reviews... so I ordered the Garmin 550 -- it's on its way and I'm anxious to get it. I think we'll try it out this weekend when we go to the Spark meet and greet. :)

Thanks everyone!

I am loving mine. Especially if you make a wrong turn it automatically recalculates a new route to make up for the wrong turn. I have also double checked my speedometer with it ... just 1 mph difference. My future in-laws have a couple GPS one in each car. They use their's when traveling from Illinois to South Carolina. I have only heard good things from them. My parents recently got one and have traveled across state lines with it and never had to tell it they went to a new states.

GPS-Global Positioning System...signals are sent to and from satellites and triangulates your position. Thus no need to tell it where you are it will tell you.

Mine will give me latitude and longitude as well which is great if you have to call for help and no clue as to your location.

Taking it one day at a time.

If you are going to have a treat make sure you enjoy each bite.

My lowest was around 139...making my way back down and hopefully farther.

That's what I was thinking too. Right now I'm leaning towards the Garmin 500 or 550 ... so that I can use it in the car OR walking/hiking.

I don't have that exact Garmin Nuvi but wouldn't it defeat the purpose of a GPS if you had to tell it when you changed states. I'm willing to bet that person had no clue what he/she was doing with it.

My BIL has one and when we traveled to Gatlinburg in TN in April, we used it. His was a TomTom. It seemed to work fine. Now my DH is sold and looking at one to buy. So far though we have not decided on a brand. I'll be interested if there are others who have comments about them.

Which one and what do you think of it?

I'm thinking of getting one... Consumer reports rated the Garmin Nuvi 760 as a recommended GPS and it looks to have lots of neat features -- walk/hike mode, muti-destination capable, iPod interface, voice and screen recalculations, etc. .... BUT when I read the reviews, someone said that when you change states you have to tell it OR when you hit 'where you are' it will just keep searching or whatever.... and not find you.

What are your experiences?

Thanks,

Dee
