Hi Everyone! I'm 27 and live in a NW Chicago Suburb. I have a beautiful 2.5 year old daughter, great DH and a black lab! A friend of mine turned me onto SP and I checked it out and I really like it! I'm very hopeful! I've tried several programs (JC, WW) and nothing seemed to work in the long term. I want to feel comfortable and confident in my skin again. I want to be healthy, not only for my family, but for myself! GL to everyone!

A college friend lost a significant amount of weight using SP combined with another program. I checked it out and now I like it. Wanted to improve my life and stop hiding myself and felt motivated to change. Its going well so far, I'm determined to make a permanent change and put this issue to rest once and for all.

I am so happy that I have finally stopped making excuses and started exercising and getting in shape. So far I have lost 16 pounds and I feel so great. And you know what, it really wasn't so hard. I just got out of a three year relationship, where I was pretty much housewife and step mother to his child. I cooked for them all the time, and in turn ended up eating most of what I ate. I have lost 60 pounds in two months, which is alot, but my goal is to lose more, with motivation from everyone here and my own motivations. My biggest thing was sugar soda, and lately all Ive been drinking is water and water with crystal light. Thanks for having me here!

Hi everyone, I am new here, just a couple of weeks. I was sent here by a friend. 5 years ago I quit smoking and did gain a few pounds but I managed it well with exercise. Last year my Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer and me and my siblings had to take turns living with her and cooking 3 good meals a day, she passed away in January and that's when the emotional eating started. I have now gained 30 pounds in the last year or so, this is the heaviest I have ever been in my life and am determined to get this weight off so my clothes fit again! How do you get those bars at the bottom that track your weight loss? I posted this twice because I think it was in the wrong place the first time, just a newbie trying to figure it all out.

My name is Audrey. During a routine annual checkup, I informed my doctor that occasionally I get a chest pain. She immediately ordered an EKG and Stress Test. After completing all the test, my physician informed me that I had slight congestion in my lower left heart valve and I needed to lose 60 pounds or go on medication for the rest of my life. I chose to lose the weight. I spoke with a friend that is an aerobics instructor and she recommended that I join Spark. Since joining 3 weeks ago, I have lost 17 pounds and I want to thank everyone that sends me emails and encourages me to continue.

Hey! I am Carmella and I am from Chicago but I am currently at the university of Illinois. I am 21 and studying music. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer my freshman year and passed away the following summer. I was and still am an emotional eater. I am trying to get my health back on track I gained about 50lbs, I am trying to get back to about 160. I am looking forward to starting my life with my fiance.
I've been around for about a week now. With my disability I've read where weight can be a factor. I also need to get my upper body strength up so that I can start cycling, used to be one of my favorite past times. Recently my wife looked up information on hand cycles. I have been in spec ed the last 6 years, and never thought about adaptive bikes for adults, silly me. I plan to be on a bike by April, and ride with my wife in the Arthur next fall. In the mean time I'll continue working on my MDiv and my ministerial credentials. slow and steady is always a good plan.

I'm from a western suburb of Chicago. I found this site today and I was amazed at all the information. I was using Weight Watchers online but found I needed a no-cost way to manage my weight loss.
I didn't gain weight until after I got married. I guess I figured I could eat junk forever - not! I was a slim 130 pounds until I was about 29 years old. Then, I got married when I was 30. I guess the 20 pounds I gained between the engagement and the marriage date (9 months total) should have been a clue. I continued to gain through the birth of my son (who is now 15) and through my divorce eight years ago.
I really want to lose weight for several reasons. I want to be healthy and keep up with my son. I also would like to start dating again and I am scared to death. I want to feel more confident so that I feel good about myself while dating. I have found some confidence through my work and I figure it's about time I gained confidence in my personal life.
I always think about something I heard Oprah say in an interview once - "I'm a smart professional, why can't I seem to get my eating issues under control?"
I am enjoying reading everyone's stories and I look forward to posting and reading the messages on all of these different boards.

Hi, I'm from Alton but lived most of my life more in central Illinois. I am enjoying reading everyone's stories and will be going back to read ones I've missed. It is interesting to see how many I can relate to.
Here's my story. Always have been overweight - even in my baby pictures. It first really hit me that I was fat when I was in fifth grade and weighed over 200 pounds. Before then I considered myself pudgy, overweight, a little big, etc. I have been on and off diets and various programs ever since with varying results. The only times I have had any success is when I have counted calories. But I would always gain everything back plus some. I finally decided I was destined to be fat forever and had given up hope of ever being healthy. Two years ago at the age of 47 I was scheduled for my third hip replacement surgery (I had broken it when I was 12) and I read somewhere that every pound of weight you lose takes about 7 pounds of pressure off your joints. I knew I had to do something. Then some radio program mentioned the Spark Guy leaving his career to start Sparkpeople.com. I decided to give this a try and have been hooked every since. I am working on life changes instead of dieting. My focus is on overall health rather than just weight loss and I think that is making a great difference for me. Glad to have all you other spark people on the team and I wish you success on your journeys toward healthier you.

Hello state mates! I've been sparking for nearly a month now. I'm closer to 50 than 40 years old and weight a lot more than when I was nine months pregnant over 13 years ago! I've struggled with my weight my whole adult life. I've even considered bariatric surgery recently. talk about at the end of my rope? I've beaten myself up more times than a prize fighter for the way I eat, the way I look, the way I feel. Food is the only addiction you carry around with you 24/7. I really do love the food tracking in Spark and the unlimited opportunities to learn! Good luck to me and to everyone of my fellow residents of Illinois in your journey to better living!

I'm from Dunlap Illinois. I retired in 2004 took care of my mother till she died in January at 98 years old during this time I put on a lot of weight. Just started sp tommorrow will be two weeks. I do enjoy the information and friendly tips. My daughter had twin boys in Feb which I take care of three days a week. Hi. I just joined the site which is a tad overwhelming but I'm hoping it'll become easier in the next few days.
I'm almost 40 and am at the same weight I was when I was pregnant with my second child. I don't want to be pudgy and I want to be able to go to my closet and put on anything I want without feeling embarrassed by how tight it is. I just want to feel better about myself so I need to lose 20-30 lbs. (15 would be great!!).
I exercise often drinking a lot of water. I need help with my eating habits and that's why I joined. Looking forward to melting the pounds away!!

My story is I've always struggled with my weight. Now I'm 67 years old I'm at the highest I ever was, even after stomach stapling. That worked for about 8 years, but one day I woke up and could eat almost anything and it wasn't long that my 90+ pounds that I lost came back. I still can't eat a lot of certain foods.
I've been tracking for a while and just started with walking the last couple of weeks. I read that if you walk 10,000 steps just to be healthy.
I have over a hundred pounds to lose and am trying so hard to head in the right direction and figure out something that works for me.
I'm now at 1400-1500 calories and walk from 1/4 mile to 1/2 per day, but I seem to be stuck at my current weight. I have trouble staying under that number of calories, so what do I do?

Hello, everyone. I love this site, I was really just trying to find out how many calories where in a banana and it lead me here. Wonderful divine intervention if you ask me. I have just come to the point where I decided I needed to lose some weight to become healthier for my children. I have been working on it since Jan of this year. I started out at 245 and presently I am at 210. I want to get down to about 150, that will be close to what I weighed back in high school.

Hello all, I am 29 and have been trying to talk myself into finally doing something for about the last 2 years. My story is probably universal to a lot of people. I was married at the age of 18 and had already started gaining weight at that point (I don't remember what I weighed then). I started college in 2001, had my son in 2003. I then started nursing school in 2004 and also became pregnant with my daughter then as well...let me tell ya, nursing school and pregnancy don't help to keep off the weight. I have now been a nurse for the past 3 years. I work nights in the ICU, which makes it difficult to have a schedule on working out and such. I finally decided to do something about my health and weight a couple weeks ago (my goal is to lose 50ish lbs by my 30th birthday in Dec). I hired a personal trainer to kind of get me on the right track as far as working out goes. I also subscribed to Spark! I love the nutrition tracker. I definately helps keep me on the right track to make sure I get enough calories.

MotiBoost-You can do it!!! I used to have the "all or nothing" attitude. I'd cave at 10 am and have a cookie, so I'd be like "I blew it! Heck with this today!" If you miss a workout, fall off the diet wagon, don't beat yourself up. Just get back on track and put it behind you. I think I would have been at my goal weight long ago if I had learned that lesson sooner!!! SP is the best place to be. Everyone here is fun and movitating. If I feel frustrated, I come here and all the SP's pick me back up and help me get motivated again.

Hi Everyone .. I am sugi. I have been working for past 4 + years as an IT engineer. My job was a seat job in front of the computer, i picked up on my weight and had no time to loose it.
I had to leave my job last year and it was not easy for initial months to get adjusted to the lifestyle that was waiting for me. But instead of thinking what i lost i decided to make the most of the time i have , i started with registering in the nearby gym and taking long trail walks. I saw the results. i lost around 10 pounds. i felt good and more confident and motivated.
From past 1 week i have introduced more changes to my lifestyle, i have added diet plus mat exercise to my daily schedule. Diet surely facilitates, only burning calories doesn't help. intake and burning should be balanced, else the results are not expected. After introducing the diet, i already start feeling light. I have to check the weight yet. My goal is to loose 10 pounds by july. I wish everyone good health and good luck.

Hi I was searching the web looking for something to help me once again (and hopefully for the last time) get this weight off.....I have really been impressed by all the posts and the information. I am a wife, mom, and have the 2 best grandkids in the world, and have been a nurse for a long time...a job I love. Have recently found out I will need a knee replacement and have been pretty bummed by this...so as you can see I NEED to lose a LOT of weight and buy some time for these creaky old knees of mine lol don't think I will be doing this position !!!
