I just found this from an email and thought it would be fun to join this team. I belong to a couple of others but have been lazy about posting. I live in a small town called Salem in Southern Ill. I am a Grandmother and retired person. I spend my time going to my GK's sporting events.
I don't really have any hobbies but I like to go to different antique stores close to home.
Thanks for the email because it will be fun talking to people in Illinois.

I found SP through a survey. I've been a member since June 2007, but didn't join any teams until this past August.

Hello Everyone.

I received an email invite to SP and signed up a few hours ago. I live in a small town about 40 miles south east of Kankakee, Il. I started the first day of the rest of my life on August 1st, 2007. Since then I have lost 26 pounds by eating less and eating healthier foods. I have hit a plateau the last few weeks and need a kick start. After browsing the site I think this looks like a good place to get that little kick... I still have a ways to go to reach my goal weight. Any ideas on how to get passed the palteau would be much appreciated.

Hi! I found SP in June of 06, but was very involved w/another diet support site at the time...just found my way back today from an e-mail about Illinois Sparkers - timing is everything! Just finished watching another season of The Biggest Loser and find myself once again saying I could have met my goal by now, too - but didn't again. So here I am. A little Jump Start to 2009, when I have already posted my target of being 145-148 by June 18 - just 6 months from today...a bit aggressive, but not unthinkable...it will require keeping myself focused and my goal right in my face. I set up e-mail reminders in the planner section of this site to help me stay on the pathway to success. My ticker is even a path, with its ups and downs, just like life! The key is to keep moving, right??

Hi all. I've been with SP since May of 2006. I agree, I will never leave. Like most of us, I battled weight issues all my life. I started at 365 lbs and am now down to 171. Take a peek at my sparkpage for the latest pics. Will be taking some more as soon as I learn how to work the new camera I got for Christmas.........and had to open early. LOL

I've been a member of this group (I think) for some times, but not very active.

I've been with SP since 12-22-05 and probably will never leave. I started at 180 and I've been as low as 133, but I'm back to 147.8. I'm frustrated in more than one area of my life, but the main ones is my weight and the need of a job. I've done various types of exercise, but the main ones are a stationary bike, walking dvd, gardening, and yard work. At this time of year shoveling snow serves as a good work out.

I am 55, happily married (34 years), have four children, five grandchildren, two dogs, and one cat.

Hello all! I have been a SP for a few months now and a member of this group for a bit as well. My name is Teresa, I am 26, and live in Northwest corner of IL, in the small town of Galena.

I have been divorced for almost a year now and am the proud mamma of a 10 week old springer spaniel/australian shepherd Maddy Mae.

Ever since I graduated high scool (2000) the weight just kept coming on. Since I have joined SP I have lost 5 lbs. And boy were those hard to loose!!

I was diagnosed with IR in April and looked myself in the mirror one day and hated what I saw. I found my senior picture and was like, "wow, who is that girl?" My goal for my 10 year high school reunion is to look like that again. I have just under 2 years to loose over 100 lbs. I know its going to be a hard battle, but I need to do it for me and my health!

I also do not want to be single for the rest of my life, and just want to find a man that likes/loves me for me...I dont even know if there is such a man out there like that???

If anyone wants to chat, I am online a few times a day, so message me or something! :)

Teresa

hey all..

My name is Rich and I'm originally from Chicago ( 32nd wells - 2 blocks from US Cellular field ). I am 36 and a divorced dad of two girls 5 and 7 years ( on my profile page ). my current profession is that of Network Engineer for Walgreens. Sparkpeople was forwarded to me in an email about 2 years ago. I prompted signed up but did not take it seriously until the past 6 months.

Growing up I was always a thin person. The past 3 years has been the exception. Bad eating habits, high stress ( daily ), long drives to and from work, etc... have contributed to my current state of being. It has gotten to the point that I have piles of jeans, work pants, skinny t-shirts, etc... laying around waiting for me to return.

The funny thing about being 36 and male is that everyone I know expects big gains in weight around this age. I was told that I looked good for being in my late 30's and I should be happy. Statements like that leave me confused and more eager than ever to lose the weight.

I set a goal weight of 170 ( 15 pounds ) by the end of October and possibly 160 by years end if I can get through the upcoming winter months. It is a lofty goal for me but I know I will look and feel a heck of a lot healthier if I can do it.

I stumbled upon this group when I was searching for groups in Illinois. Joining a ton of groups really does not interest me as much as finding a couple that I could really get something out of. This seems to be a winner for me!

I live in Oswego. I kind of just stumbled onto this team page. I am hoping to hear of some cool places to bike and hike around in Illinois. Went to Blackwell Forest Preserve and that is a nice trail to ride on.

The weather is finally looking up here in Northern Illinois! Hope everyone is taking advantage and getting outdoors for some form of activity/exercise. We have a wonderful bike trail about 1/2 mile from my house. I mix it up by hiking on the hilly portion some days, and riding on the flatter portions on other days. What activities do you all enjoy in Illinois?

This is also my "introducing myself" thread. I joined on 2/10/08. I was looking for a yoga class and it was a link on the page. The best link I've ever clicked on! I found this team by looking on other peoples pages. I didn't want to join the Chicago team because I live 40 min. away from there. Plus learning about the whole state from other people is a better idea. My DH and I have only lived in IL since Oct. 2005. The midwest is different than the East Coast. Not better, not worse, just different.

I found this team when checking another Chicago area team member's page. I've been on SP about six months.

I just found this team yesterday. I was searching for local teams. I first joined the Lake County team but they seem to be in need of a new leader and are not very active. But I found this team through that team.

I don't even remember now how I found this team. I joined the Fox Valley Team first, but don't remember how I got here. I like that there are teams in the area and state.

I'm curious - how did you all find the Illinois team? Were you searching for a local connection? Did it find you? It didn't even occur to me when I first started with SP to search out close-to-home members. Then one day, I stumbled upon the topic on a message board and realized there were teams for local groups. Not finding one specifically for my area in Illinois, I created the McHenry County team. It was so much fun talking to my "neighbors" that I decided to search out a state team. Not finding one, I started that up too and have been so GLAD that I did! This is my "go to" team. Not a day goes by that I don't check in here - and it's usually my first stop of the day!

I found SP thru a Yahoo group. A bunch of MOmmies decided to start a group to help each other lose weight. They kept talking about it so I finally decided to look into it. I am so happy I did. I had lost 15 lbs beforehand but probably could of lost more if I had joined SP in first place. But better late than never right.

That's cool. Glad you found us! Sounds like SP has been helpful to you - spread the word to your NS friends and maybe they'll join you here!

I found SP when someone on Nutrisystem mentioned it in a post. I now come here much more often than the NS board. I still have friends there so I like to go visit them.

I found the Illinois Sparkers reading another post somewhere about spark teams looking for new members.

I was foolishly paying a monthly fee for another site when someone in that challenge mentioned SP. We cancelled our memberships, then came over as a group to finish out the challenge. Although some of us have gone separate ways, I don't think anyone one of us has left.

I don't know... giving gift cards takes away from the look on the reciever's face when they open the box, and the look on other's faces when they see what you gave that person. Gift cards take the fun out of trying to find that perfect gift. Also, they know EXACTLY what you spent on them.

When my nieces and nephews ask for gift cards, it gives me no insight into what their tastes are or what kind of books they read or what kind of music they are into. I feel like I no longer know them at all.

There are upsides and downsides to gift cards, and on the whole, I like them, but when 75% of the gifts you are giving are in the form of a little plastic card, then it takes some of the fun out of Christmas shopping for me.

That's just my personal rant. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on this one! LOL

Who said a gift card has to be boring? It could be wrapped anyway desired; it's the creativity and challenge to open if you make it that way. You could put boxes inside of boxes for a real challenging and playful person. Or just wrap it in a show box w/some stuff in to alter the heaviness or whatever. Make it fun!

As far as no thought behind it, I have three young adults, and really have a hard time w/them. My son is into nothing but computers and I don't know what exactly to buy, don't want to ask anymore for 'lists' and he could go to a variety of stores, so I'm probably going to get him a visa card, and maybe I'll even get multiple in diff denominations if I really want to slip some in diff ways.

I also want to get one child a laptop, but I'm not sure I will have all the $ by next week, so I'm thinking I could give her part of the money and/or wrap up whether it be an ad or a nicely typed info. But w/this (and other things) they could get items a lot cheaper after the holidays, and for like this computer, that way she can get a better one if she adds more money, get after Christmas discounts, and pick out exactly what she wants.

In fact, I may be giving my kids what I don't want to this year but may be forced to, the meaning of Christmas is to celebrate and be w/each other w/indepth letters of appreciate, etc. Rather than go into debt even more just 'cause that's what we do,' I may not put out much and tell them I'll get them something later in the year but we will be much better off by getting a hold on the bills.

I'm torn, but I didn't write this for anyone's concern for our situation, but I know there are others out there who feel they MUST buy something. But it's the thought, that should be here, not the amount. I also want to put out a challenge for next year....the less the better; be creative (i.e., take money you would spend (i.e., $20) and be as creative as possible (using it to buy special intimate items and create a romantic surprise for your sig other!, paying it forward to help others in need, etc.). I'm trying to get back to the real meaning and not the volume.

And believe it or not, without even telling my kids this, two out of three of them are so excited for Christmas this year not to see what they get, but for others to open their presents because they are so excited that they selected presents based on what the person may want, vs what may have been on a 'list'. And most of it is a secret (at least to me) of what they are even giving each other!

Happy Holidays! emoticon emoticon

I like getting gift cards too, but I'm getting to the point where I hate to give them. Nothing to wrap, and no thought behind it. Gets boring.

Hey, guys! Hope everyone had a great weekend. I sure did. Hubby and I went to see Rob Zombie & Ozzy Osbourne at the Allstate Arena last night; it ROCKED, of course! Had a blast. It sure was a nice surprise when his niece called Saturday and wanted to give us the tickets she got for donating blood! When Jimmy told me how she'd acquired them, I was like "You can DO that?!" LOL. Methinks I'll be donating blood more often in the future. emoticon
So, I was just wondering how everyone's holiday season is coming along. Done Christmas shopping yet? Or are you one of those procrastinators who hasn't even started yet, like me? What are your plans? Maybe staying home this year and having relatives over, or taking a trip to see relatives? And, most importantly, what's on your wish lists?
Jimmy and I are staying home this year. Of course, he's lucky and lives less than 2 miles from his parents, so we'll be over there on Christmas day. My mom's in the U.P. We're going to be taking a trip to a ski resort a few days after Christmas and through the New Year, so I'm really looking forward to that!
As far as my wish list goes: I have a LOT of health & fitness related items on it, nameably gift cards. I think gift certificates rock! They're the best gifts, especially when they're for my favorite places. I've got places like GNC, Sports Authority & Victoria's Secret on my list. Okay, I know VS isn't exactly health & fitness related, but it sure helps as incentive! LOL

WAHOO!!! Another 2 lbs. gone :). I was debating whether or not I wanted to weigh in this morning at work. I made a bowl of oatmeal & added a splash of vanilla soymilk and a scoop of banana creme protein powder to take with me & eat there so I could weigh in on an empty stomach. I'm glad I did get on that scale. For the last few weeks I've been fluctuating between 153 & 155; it's been bugging the daylights out of me! Part of it is because I have upped my weight training routine, so I'm sure I've gained a little poundage in muscle. Plus there's been quite a bit of partying at my house these last few weekends (except this past one), so the booze and unhealthy foods I've been consuming more of the last month haven't helped either emoticon .
Well, I'm back on track and have done rather well the last week and it paid off!
I haven't been this close to being in the 140s again in over 2 years! Yay, me emoticon .

Right on, DARKMAGE. This is definitely a great site and all of its resources and support are so helpful! I love all the great people I've met here, too.
I know what you mean about all the snow hindering outdoor workouts. I hate all that white stuff! It's nice to look at, but that's about it for me. It really throws me for a loop when I see people out there jogging in freezing weather. That just amazes me. I wanna stick my head out the window and yell "Are you CRAZY?!" LOL. And I would if it wasn't so darn cold...

Congrats on your weight loss so far and good luck on that final!

Hi!

I found Spark People thru a member at another forum I used to go to. It was a peanut allergy forum and some of us had started to discuss losing weight, and this member left a link to this place. Been here ever since.

I lost some weight (as seen by my ticker) but I've stalled out over the past few months as I got overwhelmed with nursing school. My last final is on Wednesday, then I get a month off to recoup. Of course with all this snow on the ground, it's really hard to get out and do my walking without pulling a muscle or two!

I saw a story on the news about SP last year and joined. At that time I was also a member to a paid weight loss site and I lost about 35 pounds there. Then they increased the renewal fee by more than double, so I said so-long to them and started to use SP more and more.

I really love this site and all the people here. I have been maintaining my weight loss since February of 2007 and I'm really impressed with the variety that SP offers.

A girl at work had this site up. I asked her what she was looking at and she sent the link to me. I joined. She didn't. Oh wait, she sent it to me, but I belong to MyPoints.com and I got a link through them. I joined through MyPoints.com. That was in July.

Hey All,
I believe it was my sister in-law that told me about Sparkpeople.com. I had been trying to start some better eating habbits in order to get to a healthy weight. She was in town and told me how great this site was. So, my wife and I decided to check it out back in Sept. and now here I am losing weight and getting into a healthier lifestyle.
Thanks Sparkpeople!
And Thanks Illinios Sparkers!

Thanks for sharing Andi! I'd love to have some of your fish recipes! I really enjoy eating it but hardly ever prepare it at home. One of my favorite fish dishes that I eat "out" is at a restaurant called Cheeseburger in Paradise. They have a tilapia sandwich on the lunch menu that is AMAZING! I take the top of the bun off the sandwich and just dig in with my fork! YUM!
Yea, the tuna recipe is pretty good. I hope you enjoy it.

You know, I honestly don't remember how I found SP...I think I saw a banner ad on a different website, clicked on it and the rest is history. I found this team when I saw the url in one of your posts in the Iron Maidens team.
My name's Andi and I'm a 30 year old lacto-ovo vegetarian since the age of 17. About 10 years into it, I started eating fish on occasion, and, since I started getting serious about getting back in shape a few months ago have added it to my regular eating plan in order to reap its many health benefits and aid me in my weight loss/muscle gain journey. I think, though, after I've reached my goals I will once again omit it from my diet (I won't stop exercising and eating clean, though! No, siree!). As much as I love fish, it just isn't right for me to remain inconsistent with my lacto-ovo vegetarianism.
Btw, Daisey, your "tuna, no mayo" recipe sounds delish & I'll be making it for lunch tomorrow emoticon .
As for the rest of my story, feel free to check out my page!
