A bit of a brag...first time this ever happened for me:

We spent last week in Las Vegas (land of the never-ending buffet!) I made a vow to try to eat healthy while on vacation, and I decided I was not "dieting" but just making smark "spark" choices.

I had a wonderful time, had great (healthy, good-tasting) food, and when I got home (after all that walking you have to do in Vegas, I found I had lost four pounds ON VACATION! Amazing. Never happened before, but it shows it is possible.

I hope I don't break my arm patting myself on the back!

I missed lunch yesterday--finally ate lunch at 5pm and then ate supper at 630pm. I felt sick--still came up way short on cals.

Well Vandalee, pat yourself on the back for the good things and throw out the "bad" recriminations you feel. We all slip. The great thing is that you made some strides forward in throwing out part of the cake (I'd have eaten it all!)

You were right to come here and let those of us (who are also human) let you know that desipte any slight slip, you CAN get right back to what you know is good for you!

Good luck girl!

Okay yesterday was my first time testing myself at a party. My brother-in-law retirement party. I was doing great taco salad, veggies,a few corn chip with cheese sauce. Then out came the desserts. Homemade chocolate chip cookies an brownies an of course cake. The cake I only at half an threw the rest away. Gooood Right?? But I ate 2 brownies an a cookie so not so good. Next time I will know better an be more prepared. emoticon Maybe just one. emoticon emoticon Nooooooo. Any other time I would use this as an excuse to quit. But with all the friends I have made on here I know that I can just forget yesterday an start a new day today. emoticon

That is the thing I find so interesting about the Spark idea...you don't feel like a failure if you goof up on your program once in awhile. I always got discouraged and quit if I couldn't do everything "RIGHT" when on every other weight loss plan. I am being so much more realistic this (THE FINAL) time I'm attempting to lose. Even if I do not lose any more; I know I will not let myself gain back...the way I've always done in the past. The food tracker shows what needs to be added to or subtracted from my eating and helps keep everything balanced which I think is so important. You can keep your calories low by cutting out a lot of foods, but you need to balance all the nutrients to really do what's best for your body. It is not necessary to cut anything out completely...just watch the amount you consume, stay within your allowance for each day, and you will be fine.

I'm finding something very interesting on Sparks. For 40 or more years I've tried to lose weight. I've been successful several times (but the fact I'm here says it never is permanent).

Anyway, I have found that THIS time, when I fall off the wagon, if I will just log in and get some encouragement, I get right back on track, unlike other times when I just beat myself up and was gone for a week, a month or longer into my eating frenzy.

What a welcomed change!! (Even when I fall short).

Evening

I know what you are talking about. Ssince October of last year, I have been gaining weight. Part of the reason was a vacation and a 50th high school reunion. The rest was when my wife entered the hospital in Fab. of this year and then passing away in March. I am just now getting back on track as far as eating properly goes.

Sheri, you did a very good thing in sitting down and figuring out WHY you did this and what to do to avoid it in the future (i.e., eating later and adding a snack).

I also got VERY hungry and didn't make some wise choices yesterday. I was busy all day and didn't eat the way I should have. It is hard to get used to putting yourself and your needs before other things.

Oh Yeah: I can relate tyo that. I have been stressed this week and also got serious at the same time to be consistent with this program. So, now that the cheese cake is completly gone, I can start over. That was a binge I do believe I was up there with the top of them. But today is a different day, my husband and I walked and I had a healthy breakfast and am up on my water consumptilon. Good luck to us all, us lowly human beings who are not perfect, who have no will poser, but are in there for the fight. I am going to behave all day today.
We have to forgive ourselves and go on. I am beginning to know what baby steps means.

I binged for the first time last night. It was not an emotional binge--I WAS HUNGRY! I realized 2 things:
1. I have to eat my dinner later adding a snack
between lunch and dinner.
2. I have to add more protein to my diet.
You live and learn.
