Amen Sharon. The 50's were a wonderful time to grow up. He actually when outside and played , we did not watch TV or play computer games all the time. We did not worry about drugs or alcohol. I think the worst anyone did when I was in school was smoke in the bathroom or pull the fire alarm and we thought that was bad. And I grew up in a college town. No locking doors . Those truly for me were the good old days.

Wishing all a wonderful evening.

Good Day Ladies and Gentlemen!! It is so bitter cold and windy here in DE. today. Worked Outreach at church and bagged food for over 50 families again. We are really starting to get depleted on our supplies.I was very glad to get home and put my feet up! Hope all are doing well. Boy, Sharon, those 50's were great weren't they. We never even locked our doors doing the day !

Ah, the good old days...when Drs prescribed amphetamines for weight loss, and we didn't get addicted...when our chemistry teachers let us "play" with mercury, and we didn't get sick...when we could walk all over town at all hours and not be raped or killed. Give me the 50's...we may have been naive and innocent but what a wonderful time to be a kid. I know...I know...lol

I remember getting down to 145 lbs when my mother took me to be tested for my thyroids at age 14 because I weighed 165 pounds in 1961. I was given thyroid pills and an appetite suppressor (amphetimine) I got down to 145 but I was dancing off the walls. My mother would sew my party dresses then and she constantly remarked on my weight becaue she had gotten down to 145. I was 5'10" and she was 5'5"

Don't Quit along with Footprints were my Dad's favorite verses. They both give me extra strength when I seem to be down. I also have been working with the weight for around 25 years. I have never been small, but I did weigh around 145 when I was in school. I thought I was fat then because my girlfriends all weight about 100-125. Looking back at pictures , I truly was not fat. Keeping a daily journal helps me more then anything else.
Have a wonderful day.

Hi Flora, I like your poem about not quitting. I will copy it to my daily journal. I have been working on loosing and keeping off the weight for 26 years now. Sparkpeople has given me another dimension to learn from other people who are struggling like me in this life long endeavor. I can log on and receive daily encouragement and not have to wait for the once a week meeting.

Nancy, I am right there with you. I can not seem to get my weigh under 200. But I am not going to give up, going to keep on trying.
Sparks really helps me out. I don't often post , but I read and the one thing I truly love about Sparks are all the wonderful people. I have never meet any of you but truly feel you my friends. God Bless each of you.

I was so happy 6/27/08 when I finally saw 196.5. I have been trying ever since to get back to that number or anywhere under 200 lbs. I get to 201.8 then bounce back up again. I will be so glad when they open up the pool again. It makes a lot difference. After one year of taking off 60 lbs and two years of maintaining, I have settled into a better life style at the age of 62. I check into sparkpeople messages everyday to remind me where I have been and where I want to be.

Sharon and Pat you are so right! I love my friends at SP and the support they give. I am trying to hang in here again. Not a lot of time for writing but do want to exercise and eat properly and will be on here as time permits.

Love,
Rosy

I think nothing is more important on the Spark site than the other members and the FOOD TRACKER...just seeing in black and white what you have eaten makes a big impact...let's you know exactly what you've done right or wrong. I plan to be here forever to receive and give help...it's so helpful to share our concerns and victories with others. HUGS Sharon

You are all so right. I said "I will never be heavy again" when I had lost my 60 pounds. Well....I should never had said it. I have gained back 38 pounds from not exercising and eating bad. I AM going to get back on track and take it back off and be determined to eat the right things. I also will be exercising more too. I walked 2 miles today but must do that much more often as well as get back to my strength training too.

I was watching Oprah too. I agree it is a day to day battle that we must consciously make the decision to eat right and exercise. I also am a person who has fallen off the wagon again. I am starting over again here with Spark People. I am counting on the support of every one here who continues to encourage each other. Thanks for being here. Oprah's webcast is on at 9 PM tonight. I am going to watch and see what hints they will give us.

Hi Pat,
So good to see your post. Yes it is really hard to keep the weight off. I cant exercise like I should, old age and arthritis has slowed me down .
Hang in there and stay well.

That is sure the truth, we all have to remember it is a life style change and not let ourselves slip back into the old bad habits. We all slip once in awhile but we have to stay around here and let everyone encourage us to keep working on our health even when things go bad and we get discouraged.

I am watching Oprah and something she said really hit home to me. She said the hardest part of losing weight is keeping it off!! Never get cocky and say "I will never get heavy again" I am not saying this to discourage people but to face facts. This is a day to day battle that will never end. I have accepted this, I must continue my battle, I have wonderful tools here at Sparks and have met so many loving, caring friends . I believe in me and I believe in you! Hugs to all. Pat
