I am proud that I maintained for around 18 months before I quit smoking and gained 30 pounds. Now to get that OFF!

Hello! I've not really posted on here. I don't think I was really ready to make a committment when I first joined up. Now that I am ready I hope I can stay on track and maybe make a few online buddies.

So far in the past 6 weeks I have lost 9 lbs. Only one more till I reach my initial goal.

Anyone have some suggestions for me to stay on track and not lapse back into my old ways?

It looks like we are all disappearing. Cincin, how are you doing? Lose any more of that weight? Chase those boys of yours around telling them you want to give them a big sloppy kiss. When my sister said that to my son he always ran like the wind and she would have to chase him to give him a good-bye kiss! It was good for burning calories.

I'm still here too. I took some time off because of family problems but came running back when I saw the scale starting to creep back up. I am still in maintenance and that is where I want to stay.

It was hard work losing 67 lbs and I don't want to have to start from the beginning again! I know where to come in order to keep it off so... Spark forever.

Wow, I couldn't imagine a run and then moving all the desks around. What a mess. Is everything in place and ready for action?
Tabata is a circuit training. All boot camp type exercises but you have to do the exercise for 20 sec on and 10 sec rest for 8 sets and then run to the next exercise. We do that for 45 minutes. Loved it.
Today I'm so sore but I did some weights on my own and then the elliptical machine for half hour. Done. Now I need to recover over the weekend. Monday I should be good to go. Got that soreness thing out of the way.

Pilates, now I've definitely heard of that but never once tried it. Tabata? THAT I've never heard of! What is it other than 'boot camp'? What kind of workout is involved in it?

Today I went by the school and picked up my keys and nearly fainted when I saw my room. Yes, the floors are clean and spotless but the furniture and desks were in a huge pile in the middle of the room. I ended up moving all of it around over and over again while I was trying out new arrangements. Now I'm exhausted. Maybe I should have skipped the run this morning.
emoticon
Don't worry about me starving. First thing my principal said to me when we met in the office was, "You haven't gained any weight!" "That's right," I told her, "but I haven't LOST any either! So as far as I can figure it, I'm winning this battle."

I went home and ate a big dinner and now am suffering the consequences. I feel like I'm about to explode. Tasted good though so it was worth it!

Back to school early in the morning. I may do my run first but it might be nice to do it later. I'm beginning to find it relazing. Who would ever thought exercise could become something I like? I used to hate getting sweaty. Now it is okay as long as I have time to 'de-sweat' afterewards.

Good luck with that 'tabata' stuff!

Janny, pack that lunch! Don't starve!
I did pilates class AND Tabata class. Tabata is like a boot camp, only at a fast pace. I did take it easy knowing it's been so long. I don't want to be crippled and miss my workout tomorrow.
In our schools, the teachers are only allowed in the school the day before the kids come to meet the teacher. Tough on them cuz they want the class up and running when kids and parents come to see where the classrooms are. Not much prep time.
My boys love their new teachers. I heard mixed things about my younger sons teacher but the negative is mostly about her being a screamer and showing favorites. Hey, if I was in a class of 25 kids all day, I'd be screaming louder than anyone in the northern hemisphere. He has a set of conjoined twins in his class and he came home so excited about them. He said "they are just like regular girls but they share legs!" I don't know what he was thinking before he met them. He was told last year they are really nice girls and just like everyone else. He also said his teacher has a son with the same name (which is very different) and she couldn't wait to meet him. How funny. All good so far. Hope it stays that way.
Good luck setting up your room. I hope your meetings won't be too boring. (aren't all meetings?)

I'm off to school tomorrow to begin to start setting up for the next school year. We're allowed to start coming into the school tomorrow so I thought I'd like to get an early start in setting up. We're expected to set up our classrooms on our own time.

When we are 'officially' required to be there we are not allowed to be in our classroom. Instead we sit in meetings in the library. If I we don't go in on our time we would be walking into the classroom at the same time as the kids! Not going to let that happen. I want to be ready for them!!!

I'll soon be packing my lunch again. Hmmmm, what will I eat tomorrow? I HATE packing a lunch but I have no choice. No cafeteria and nowhere close by to buy anything. Pack it or starve!

Good luck at the gym, Cincin!

Hi Girls.
I got so busy with the boys I haven't had a chance to log on. They started school today and I just finished my bartering at the gym. Time to pay for membership now. Oh well. It will get my butt back there. I'm up about 15-20 pounds now so I'm going to really pay for it starting tomorrow. Just too much fun with the boys and all the snacking.
Jan, I hope that sick feeling goes away in time with that medicine. Maybe I can take the meds for you?? I could use a little non preggo sickness. LOL
I'll check back tomorrow after my workout. Time to really be accountable for myself.
Nite nite.

Ahh, I'm still here. I've been up to my 'gills' with the business of stuff that goes on in life! I've had days of not the best eating (not enough)and days where I've eaten a ton of the stuff I shouldn't.
emoticon
That was the time this week that I ate a bag of potato chips in two days, all by myself. I don't even know what possessed me to buy them in the first place!! I haven't had any in the house for almost 2 years.... When I was out getting groceries they were one of the few things that I saw in the store that piqued my interest. Food is just not appealing to me right now. Not a good thing.

Yesterday I ate out with some friends at a supposedly fantastic restaurant. I ate one quarter of the HUGE sandwich and some of the salad. It was Monte Cristo sandwich with turkey, proscuitto, goat's cheese on rye bread. They boxed up the rest to take home but I dumped it later in a garbage can I found on the way to my next appointment. I could have made a detour home with it first to put it into the fridge but felt sick thinking about trying to eat any of it again. My friends raved about their food.

My brain has gone screwy with eating now. Food never sits on my stomach very well anymore and I can't eat the same size portions. To keep my weight up I eat more often with small portions. Unfortunately, a new drug I had to go on has an unwelcome side-effect with appetite. Nothing ever looks or smells good anymore. Most things make my stomach churn. It's almost like having morning sickness. Ahck! Could you imagine anything so awful? Being pregnant feeling at my age??

The funny side of it is that now I'm looking at the nutrition labels just as carefully as I ever did but am looking at the calorie count/fat content in a different light. I want bang for my buck so to speak!

Since I'm eating smaller portions, I want them to have enough calories and vitamins to count. No little yogurt containers with only 35 calories a serving. When you think about it, how does the manufacturer even manage to make it that low? Things that make you go hmmmmmm....?

Otherwise, I'm alive, well, and still kicking. Mind you, I'll be back to school before too long and those kids may have a thing or two to say about that!!

Hi all, I haven't been getting notices that y'all posted so I haven't been in for a while. Just thought I would stop by and check in. LOL

I am back in a gung ho phase. I have been racking up some exercise minutes and things are starting to firm up a bit. WOO HOO!

I haven't been doing as well with my eating though but I am promising myself I will do better. Oh Oh, I started to just leave it at that but I know that I would be setting myself up for failure so let me add... Today! Not sometime or even tomorrow but TODAY! LOL

Well, I'm off to church so TTYL

BUT... before I go Allen you can do it and I can too!

Good evening all,
I'm doing okay with my food intake now that I'm starving my kids. I can't eat in front of them, guilty mom thing so maybe this will be a good thing.
about a week and half until school starts. I'm missing the gym so much now.
Jan, I have a 23 year old step daughter. I remember when I met her she was he age of my boys. Time goes by so fast. I can't believe my boys aren't babies anymore.
Amazing. The only thing that moves slow is the fat off my body. But, in time.
anyway, going to bed but I wanted to stop in and say hi.

Make an effort, not an excuse.

CinCin, you're right about food and kids. I'm older than you and I get to see a lot of kids eat (or not eat) everyday when I'm at school. I hear a lot of parents say, "my kid won't eat!" but I have YET to see any one of those kids fall over, stop breathing, and curl up and die from lack of food, especially when there was a good healthy selection for them to choose from.
emoticon Still, as moms we always worry. Oh, I had a doctor tell me the exact same thing one day many years ago. *laughs*

Cecelia, you are TOO HARD on yourself! Just do what you can WHEN you can. You have a busy, busy life with a young family. I can tell you that you won't be any happier (or nicer for your family to be around) if you treat yourself like you are not doing enough. Just remember to give it your best effort when you can and then make sure you give yourself some good POSITIVE self-talk for accomplishing what you have. I had to learn that I wasn't perfect and it was OK not to be the best as long as I had made an honest effort. That is what was really important.

I remember those busy, busy days and sitting here where I am.....not really sure that I would REALLY want to relive them. Husband gone for weeks and months....it sure wasn't easy. Most of the time I wasn't sure if I was coming or going! REALLY!

Now, my BABY will be 23 in September. My perspective sure is different as I look back on things. Remember to make sure you have time to 'breathe' each day, if you know what I mean. I didn't do it and nearly 'lost' myself. I can't get those years back. You're doing great, I can assure you! You really are a treasure!

hi everyone,

i've still been hanging around sp, just not active on the boards. i still haven't found any new teams that i like. i've been on and off my diet. i go through these periods of being gung ho and defiant! i'm coming off one of my defiant weekends. i seem to be losing and gaining the same 5 lbs all summer long. i did a mini squat workout on monday, and my thighs have been sore ever since. i've gotten so out of shape in the last 6 months. i wish i had never stopped running.

anyways... i think i'll put that chunk in a blog!

cincin, i'm glad you had a good vacation. we're heading down to corpus christi, tx for labor day weekend, so we'll get some beach time in. have you posted any pics yet?

janny, i can't think about running without thinking about you! i know, i know... i can do it. you've done amazing things! i'll get there too!

Hi Guys,
Had a pretty good day today. I've decided not to worry about my pickey eater son. He only eats certain things, all carbs and is my little chunky monkey. Now that vacation is over, I'm serving up eggs, cheese, milk, veggies, salad, meats and fruit for dessert. If he chooses not to eat, that's his problem. It's making me eat healthier as well.
Now, to get back to the gym. (two weeks left to go!)
How is everyone else hanging in there?

Cincin, the biking is nothing to sneeze at! Getting to your goal is all simply a matter of having the goals set out in a plan and trying to follow it the best that you can. We all know that 'LIFE' happens along the way and that there are detours that get us off track occasionally. A vacation is allowed! Besides, we all know all too well that vacations don't last forever (as much as we would like them to) and we all eventually get back onto a regular schedule.

A healthy day to all of you!

Home from vacation and way too scared to get on the scale. I'm going to wait until school starts in two weeks before getting on track full blast.
Did do 2 hours of bike riding everyday with the kids while away tho.

LOL! CinCin, I laughed at your comment of not being able to prove you'll have been at the White House since they won't allow you to take pics. I remember a trip our family made to Mt. Rushmore. This was in the days of the old movie cameras and my dad took the requisite films to prove we had been there. My mom was so proud she had been to see the sites there. Well, back in those days, you had to get even those movie films developed. When we got them back, the family all gathered one night to watch our 'movies'. (We kids loved to ham it up for the camera) As the tension mounted, my dad got the movie projector going and there it was! Mount Rushmore superimposed over my sister's birthday party being held in our backyard. My mom was furious! Mt. Rushmore was ruined!!! Dad had used the same film twice which gave him those fantastic special effects. Eight year old girls in bathing suits running across the face of George Washington and Abe Lincoln. Yes, mom made dad take us back to Mt. Rushmore the next year so that dad could do it RIGHT this time. As I remember, the place looked the same, but hey, what did I know? I was only 10. Dad did do it right this time.

I'm working on watching my weight as some new meds that I have the side effect of no appetite. No appetite means you don't even think about food. Since my family is all away right now, I don't even have to think about preparing food for them. The doc doesn't want me to lose weight and I don't want to either. I worked hard to get it up here in the first place.

Did my run today (my program has u run on alternate days) and it was a tough one. I kept going anyway. I would hate myself if I stopped or walked. I will do it!

thanks. This is the week vacation. We've been doing weekend getaways all summer. We just got notified that we got tickets to tour the white house next saturday. I'm so excited, but they won't let me bring in my camera. emoticon
I'm a photo junkie! I hope the kids remember this trip, I won't have proof they've been there.
I'll check in tomorrow. We aren't leaving until Friday night. Been drinking water all day too. Ate only lunch and my stomach swelled again. ugh!

Hot dogs are just gross. I don't even know what's in them. I didn't eat them as a kid because I couldn't figure out what part of the animal it came from. They are just a weird thing to me. Bring a yummy salad as a thanks for having us over. fill on that and say you are too full for dessert. good luck. Glad you lost 4 pounds tho. that's awesome. I refuse to get on the scale now. I'll wait until I get back to the gym.
I'm still feeling full from my binge the other day. I drank water all day yesterday and I feel like I flushed some of it out. I'm going to try to do that again. I can't believe I'm still not hungry. I know it's not good to eat, but I feel more like I need to cleanse or something.
enjoy the break from Ballet for a bit.
We are going to VA Beach for 10 days tomorrow. My goal is to not gain weight while on vacation. I'll see about grabbing the DH laptop and log in every so often. He brings his computer to keep up on emails at night so he's not swamped when we get back.
Time to go to music lessons now. The boys just keep going and going and going....

Make an effort, not an excuse.

cincin... i've never tried cornbread cookies, but i love cornbread... yum. the muffins were ok. i only used bisquick(healh wise version), skim milk, and blueberries. they weren't sweet and just tasted like biscuits with blueberries. i think next time i might try adding some vanilla and splenda. they were only 120 calories and 2g of fat. don't ya love hearing from pto when the school year hasn't even started yet?!?! i'm getting a bit of a break this next week or so. no more daily trips to ballet until aug. 8th. we're at the studio 5 days a week- mon, tues, thurs, fri & saturday, and the occassional wed for private lessons!!

i have to be really good today. my best friend invited us for dinner... chili dogs. have you seen how much fat is in 1 hot dog?? i asked her if she'd at least use turkey chili. i'm thinking i'll skip the hot dog and just pour chili over the bun and put lots of mustard and relish. maybe she won't notice. ugh, and she always has brownies or ice cream or something sweet for dessert!

i tried the scale this morning, and it says i lost 4lbs. but i took a water pill yesterday to help get rid of some of the swelling bloat from my "time". i'll check again in a few days and see how much of the loss was water weight and how much is real weight loss.

Jan, I can totally relate to unfamiliar roads. I don't like them either. In Connecticut we have limits of 55mph or 65mph. We do average about 70 tho. I find the police don't bother you if your going at the most 70.
Where are the DH and DD off to?
Hope the dr. appt went well after all that stress.

Cecelia-I got an email from the PTO checking to make sure I was still up for yearbook again (of course I said yes, I also said I won't do anything else since it was too much last year) but they mentioned the same thing about lazy days of summer. My response was "my ass!" I think as parents of school age children, it just doesn't slow down. It's what it's going to be until they leave for college. Glad your muffins worked out well. I milled some corn for cornbread cookies and still haven't had time to make them yet. maybe later. I haven't even checked on my garden in weeks. It's so hot out right now I can't leave the A/C right now.

Sally, glad I can help with your cleaning excuses. LOL My toes are feeling a bit better today than yesterday. I'm hoping that means they didn't break.
Still not feeling good to run tho.

I sat last night without stuffing my face (I did that all day) and made new playlists for running and elliptical machines when I can get back to it. I also found a team that posted a great website for free podcasts for a 9 week course of training for a 5K. I downloaded the whole thing and put it in my ipod. Now to get the toes up and moving again,I have something to look forward too. This MIGHT be the start of my mojo. Even if I have to wait for school to start. We go back end of August so it's not that long. We are going on vacation all next week so I only have two more weeks after that.
Hope everyones day is going better than mine. I've been running all day, no food and now I'm probably going to stuff and puff (as you say Jan).

i always thought life was suppose to move in slow motion during the summer. i remember the old country time lemonade commercials with the kids running through sprinklers sipping on lemonade. everything was cool and green and refreshing. but... it's hot, it's nonstop, and lemonade has 80 calories per 8oz serving! i don't know why i thought that life would slow down once school let out for summer.

not much going on here. i got my seeds planted yesterday for my fall veggies... broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts. tomatoes are already planted, and carrots don't go in until nov. 1st. instead of driving to the corner store for milk, dh and i took a walk after dinner. it was nice.

ack... i just logged into sp to put my blueberry muffins in the recipe calculator and got side tracked with this post. I FORGOT THEY WERE IN THE OVEN!! but they were perfect! whew!

cincin... sorry about the toes. ouch. at least you've acknowledged your friend, the treadmill. he's a good friend and will be waiting for you whenever you're ready! and i hear ya about the kids! i was excited about summer vacation, but i'm even more excited for them to go back!! i think i'm going to try to find a preschool program for the baby. she won't start pre-k in the public schools for another 2 yrs.

janny... how fast are your speed limits in canada? our interstates down here in texas are 70-75mph. you guys go faster? wow. where is dh & dd off to? we haven't vacationed this summer. we do stay-cations, just local stuff within an hour or two drive. my oldest daughter hates it, but it's her ballet schedule that keeps us close to home. i posted some new pics of my girls on my page.

My mojo must have run screaming this week since I have eaten WAY too much food! I need to correct that- there was no food involved. It was all candy. I don't think SP allows me to count candy as a 'food'.

I was supposed to run today but didn't get it in so I'm feeling guilty about that. I ran around the house this morning like a chicken with its head cut off, trying to get ready for a specialist's appt downtown in Toronto (another new doc for me). I was really nervous about the appt (I'm not usually) and I was anxious about the drive there and back. I am a scatterbrained driver if I'm not on very familiar roads and this trip forced me to use the freeways. They are a mess because of contruction right now so the lanes are narrowed making it even worse. The speed limits on our freeways up here are higher than yours down there and I hit both rush hours and everyone always goes way over the limit. If the traffic is moving along well they don't stop speeders because then ALL the cars would have to be ticketed. Aargh! So I had to speed, too!!!

After I got home I waited for DH to call and tell me how his drive went with my DD. They are half way there after just 2 days so they are doing well. However, DH did get a speeding ticket as he was 34 KMs over the limit. Out in the country, they are NOT as lenient and hubby forgets that. They are not in the big rush that we are here.

After their call, I did a quick walk with the 2 dogs and thought I'll do my run now. THEN I looked at the clock. It was 11:18 pm. Yeah, I'll feel guilty about missing today's run but I'm going to wait til tomorrow. It's not that the streets aren't safe. Its just late and since it is garbage night, all the skunks will be out pilfering and I don't want to surprise one of them.

that's really funny. I love it! I fell on the wet floor in my bathroom last night. I guess this is what I get for cleaning. I don't know if I broke a toe or two or if I sprained them. I now have purple toes and it hurts like hell. For now, my mojo will have to wait. I can't run for a little bit now. I'll stare at my treadmill and appreciate what I was doing on it all week. wah! These days, it's always something.

Thanks a lot for all the kind words! I can't help but think (like everybody always says) if I can do it so can you.

I had my age as a handicap and the fact the my back was in such bad shape I couldn't walk without extreme pain. I would hurt so badly that it would take 3 or 4 breaks to just load the dishwasher. These are roadblocks that I pray none of you have! BUT if you do I'll say it again. If I can do it anyone can! LOL

I had been waiting for my mojo to find me and then I realized that I wasn't getting any better while I waited so I better get moving while I still could, even if it was just a little.

I hope none of you take this wrong, I know I have a weird sense of humour but I got to say it or I'll explode. LOL
(said with an evil grin on my face) You know chasing your mojo is good exercise. Especially if you have to run to catch it.

Sheltielady, glad you see you post. I got so busy I didn't get on here in months and gained back everything. Now I"m trying to get back in the habit. Not as motivated as last time. But I"m going to try again.
There are a few of us still posting here. Not as active as I would like tho. But I found other teams to join too. I'm so happy to hear from anyone to see how they are doing.
Congrats on reaching your goals and beyond. Great acomplishment! hope to keep hearing from you too.

It is Sunday and I just got my Spark email about this team so I though I would drop by to see if anyone had posted to it recently.

I am always wondering how the other ppl that started here with me are doing but there is seldom any info here about them.

I was very glad to see that some of you had posted this time! So I though I would speak up and let you all know I am still alive & kicking.

I reached my first goal weight and decided to drop it another 20 lbs. I reached that goal and have now been maintaining for about 6 months.

I still log my food and exercise most days. (I think I have missed maybe 5 days since we started.) Without those tools I know I would have put all the weight back on.

Is there anyone else out there that we have'nt heard from in a while? If so let us know how your doing.

Sally

Oh you're right about what you said about the weights. I've thought about that when I've lifted heavy things! It really made me think back to pregnancy days when I was hauling around a lot of weight. No wonder women are SO READY for pregnancy to be over!! It's all the extra weight we have to drag around. It is exhausting work. I guess it is the same for any extra weight we just happen to be 'wearing' for other reasons.

hi everyone,

cin... can't we all relate!! i got within 3 lbs of my goal last october, then blew it. i got back on the pill, and was bloated within a week and 5 lb heavier after the first month. i slid farther and farther away from my goal. 2 months later in december, i started running again and was within 5lbs of my goal when my husband got home from iraq. he had been a runner, so one of my goals was to start running with him when he got home. he came home with a back injury, and it never happened. i stopped exercising and eating right, and six months later, i have gained 12 lbs. so here i am, trying to refocus. i guess this could have been a blog, huh?

janny... i think of the weight i've lost whenever i lift weights or pick up something really heavy. i strain to lift the weight that i used to carry around by being overweight. i'm not sure if i explained that right?! i'm glad to hear you're in better health and feeling great!

Ah hem, BOTH of you two ladies look wonderful! Dindin, maybe you gained some of the weight back but you WiLL lose it again! I'm so happy to be back down to my 'normal' weight since I can do so many more things now. Well, some of that is because the tumor is gone but I still feel SO GOOD. Everytime I do something for the first time since I lost all my weight I'm reminded of how easy it is to do things now. The extra weight was like a huge chunk of concrete hanging onto me just slowing me down from so many things. I feel like a young kid again!

I hope you get to posting more too. I miss everyone. I need the support and I'm finding my EE team just isn't the same. I have to find some new teams. There isn't much action out there lately on these threads.
Are you close to your goal? You look awesome! I got within 5 pounds of my goal and then lost the mojo and gained it all back. still eating and not enough water but at least I'm posting again. Tracking could be better too. That will be my goal starting tomorrow.
Have an awesome night. Hope you post again soon.

I've spent the weekend working in the garden and painting lawn furniture. I'm exhausted but I've now spent my evening doing laundry because I didn't get that done because of all the yardwork. Finally finished packing because I'm off to my friend's cottage for 2 days. Ah, peace and quiet and a lot of talking! No burning calories there!

mitecu- I feel like you. I joined last year, did great, got too busy for myself and ended up gaining weight. I was thinking about joining this weeks class. But I like this group of people here.

How is everyone doing? I hope better than me. I missed you all and today I've decided to get back here and make a new commitment to myself and make time once again.
Hope everyone is all well and happy and the scales are down.

To tell you the truth, even though I signed up over a year ago, I really didn't become active until 2 weeks ago. I'm kicking myself because I wasted this past year-eating and eating and not being active. But I'm going to move on. I'm watching what I eat and exercising everyday. So...technically, I should belong to the SP Class of May 3-8, 2009.

we would literally astound ourselves."

Oddly enough, my one year anniversary is on my oldest daughter's birthday. I didn't even make that connection until about two months ago even though I knew I joined on Apr. 4th. How is that for a slow brain?
emoticon
I must have decided to join after eating half of her birthday cake or something like that. I'm not sure what made me look up the sight except that I knew it was time.

We're coming up on on one year anniversary as BYEOUNDS has pointed out in a Sparkmail. I have been thinking about that for a while now. How is everyone coming along with their goals?

I did get down to goal weight but an below it now and am trying to gain some back. I'm reading about CFreedom's exercises and thinking they sound really good. Fun, too! I can just see those flying toddlers!
emoticon I used to do the same thing with my 'little' ones. That is before they grew to my size and bigger (6'6"). Out of the question now!

Now the girls are good partners to exercise WITH! The son, well.......not so much!

Consistency!!!! this is the one thing that others here have been very clear about. And, that is what is helping me. I started first with aerobic activity but then realized that I had to add weight training. If you can't get a to a gym. Take your pre-schooler (who probably has more energy than 10 of us put together) for a half hour walk every afternoon. Just a mommy and me walk (eventually you will be able to pick up the pace). Wear that kid out :) Then for weights, depending on your son's weight, bench press him. Lay flat on the floor so you are protecting your back, knees bent with feet on the floor, and press him up and down. He's going to think he's flying!
Try to use your belly to support you while your arms raise him. (Suck the belly in.) And, of course, any games that require you to be outside and running around...easy ways to get in aerobic activity :) Of course diet is next. For three days keep track of your diet in a notebook - just the items that you have consumed and at what time and how you felt. Were you hungry, stuffed, bored, etc. Start to find out where your downfalls are. Mine is dinner. I don't eat enough during the day and more than make up for it at night. Yup, not healthy and it does affect my sleep.
I wish you much fun in turning your routine around!

I've been trying to get focused. I bought a pedometer over the weekend to help me track my physical activity throughout the day. I've been doing a bit over 3 miles each day, but I need to up my activity to achieve the 10,000 steps recommended for fitness. The pedometer provides great feedback, though.

Good morning! I said I would keep this forum updated so here goes. SuperBowl weekend and week was a loss - but a fun loss :) I had many social engagements and many glasses of wine and bad bar food. I am not normally like this so I wasn't worried. But then I got the stomach flu and that has knocked me out for more than a week. And yes, that helped me lose a few pounds. About three to be exact. I will be going back to the gym for a light workout today for the first time in about six days. Woo hoo!

I've been in the gym - hiding behind sweatpants. I have been working for the last three years on losing this 20 lbs and nothing is working. So, I decided to go a bit further to the extreme. I am doing an hour of cardio at least four days a week with three days a week of 45 mins. weight training. I have adjusted even further my eating habits although I did throw in the towel this past weekend and splurged on pizza and wings one night :) Anyways, I have been cracking at this since, january 4th - 3 full weeks now? And I lost 2 lbs. I do feel better but seriously. Someone please tell me that my system will jumpstart at some point!

That's how it all started for me! I really started having a conscience about what I was putting in my mouth and how much I was actually putting in it. Then my little brain pricked at my little heart and it all started happening!! Yeah!

I'm glad someone is still here!

I'm still here although I haven't been very dedicated to my program. Only five pounds have come off but I'm hoping the treadmill my husband and I bought recently will help out. One success is how much more conscience I am about what I'm eating. Doesn't always stop me from putting it in my mouth, however.

It seems that everyone is hiding right now. I'm hoping its because everyone is out at the gym working out right now. Maybe they are running around the block getting in their exercise that way!

I'm sure things will pick up here again. I'm wondering how many of us that joined last year are still around here. Has anyone else been successful in their quest to better themselves?

Yeah, even healthy oils are still calorie laden. I use very little oil but when I do use oil I use EVOO or canola.
It's cold here too, about 20 degrees and not suppose to get above 32 today. This may be balmy for other parts of the country, and world, but it's cold for us here in the south. We're cold and complain when it's in the 40's!I live in Eastern N.C.

I'm not sure I can give you any sage advice on weight loss but will just share a thought with you about oils. Today at work some of the staff were talking about different cultural groups and how they seem to live in certain communities around here. i mentioned how I lived in an Italian community and olive oil was always on sale by the case (twelve 1 litre bottles in a case). I made a comment to the effect of "who would buy that much oil at one time?". I was shocked by the response. Several people around the table said they always buy a case because they use so much of it and it was OK because it was a healthy oil! Sure it is better than some of the other oils but everything in moderation. yes, most of them were a bit on the large size.

I take months to go through a bottle of oil. I rarely use any oils or butter/margarine at all. Never have used them and am glad for that habit now.

Stay warm! It's certainly been chilly up here. Brrr!

SSUESM - Thank you so much for your sharing...it helps to know someone else out there is in a similar boat.
Most of what you mentioned I already do, I don't wish to sound petulant. emoticon
And, of course, I certainly allow myself my wine as well, within moderation. emoticon
And I don't eat sugar. I watch for sodium levels in my food as well.
Overall, I think you are right. It just takes time. It's a relief to hear someone else say that. I'll start keeping my SP page updated - I'm in week two of an elevated workout program. We shall see how this month goes. emoticon

CFREEDOM - It really wasn't until I joined SPark that I forced myself to track food AND exercise...then the weight loss started to kick in (with still more long periods of not losing). *Also the older we are, the harder it is to take off even a couple pounds.

Basically, I increased my LEAN protein. Cut WAY back on sugars. Ate only good fats, like canola and olive oil. Very little refined carbs. Still have my wine. :-) And really tried to be patient with myself!!! I fell off the wagon SO many times and continue to fall off the maintenance wagon now and then.

EDIT: one other note, I set smaller goals for myself. 5-7 lbs. at a time. :-)

Yes, I have been to the doctor. My bloodwork is fine. Thyroid is fine - well within normal levels. I saw a nutritionist for a while, I lost 8lbs quickly and then I gained them right back. My body somehow adjusted and said, "nope - not doing it". I do forget to breathe both when sitting at my desk and working out. emoticon I think that might be part of it. So, the yoga is helping with that. The nutritionist said I was at a healthy weight and there was nothing else she could do for me. I was quite a bit peturbed by that. Maybe I need someone to check my "diet." What I am eating when. Maybe the balance of food groups is off?

CFREEDOM, have you gone to the doctor and had them do some bloodwork on you? There could be something else going on that makes it difficult to get the last bit of weight off. Just a thought...

SSUESM - I noticed your weight chart and I am at the same starting point you were. I have been struggling with losing these extra 20lbs for about three years now. I would love your thoughts and what worked for you as I am very frustrated.
Yes, I eat a sensible diet between 1200 and 1800 kcals a day depending on my level of exercise. I get at a least an hour of cardio in a day but many times work out for more than two hours a day (either including weight training or doing a yoga class later in the day.) I do know that I tend to "save" my calories for dinner so I have been slowly turning that around and trying to eat more in the morning and throughout the day so that dinner is light fare. I can get into further specifics but just wanted a general consensus of everyone's thoughts.
Many many thanks :)

Oh! Hello to all my dear friends! Cecelia, no tail between your legs. Right now, you are a busy mom with a bunch of important kids to look after, all by yourself. No explanation needed for me. I've had to do that in the past myself with no family closer than 1500 miles. It is a long, hard road to walk alone as a mom. Actually, I was quite worried about you so I am glad to hear you are OK. Really tired, but OK!

I'm in my first week back at school since last June and all the medical mayhem through the summer and fall months. I can understand why the surgeon wanted me to stay off work as long as I did. But I am in pretty good shape now but have to get used to that alarm clock ringing at 5:15 AM. Eek! No sleeping in anymore.

I'm not getting any walking in right now since it is so icy out and I didn't go and buy a treadmill. I may still have to go do that. At least I'm getting lots of mileage in walking at school. I don't think I ever sit down (not even to eat). I know it's not good to eat walking around since you tend not to notice how much food you are stuffing down your throat. I just have so much catching up to do at school I don't want to stop to sit down and eat.

I did gain a few pounds at Christmas but I'm back down again from my running around like a crazy woman at school. My class is wonderful (actually, I don't think I've ever had a student I didn't like) and they seem to have accepted me as their 'new' teacher. The parents are all coming in to say hello and seem really excited to meet me and have all said how glad they are that I'm going to be able to finish the year with their child. Gulp. It seems like someone must have told them I'm some sort of wonder woman. I hope I don't disappoint them.

Just glad that my little circle of friends are all doing well. Let's banish the fat in '09!

Is is 15 days now, Cecelia? But who's counting, right? *teehee*

Cecelia, Welcome back! i've been gone too. Just about a month. Got crazy myself and sick. But I'll be full swing here on Monday when the kids go back to school and I can get to the gym after a month of not going there either.
Glad to hear the hubby is coming home soon. Even more glad your here posting again. I missed you so.
I got down to 131, but now put on 2 pounds. Without working out, I think I'm doing okay.
Hi Sue! Long time no hear either.
Happy New Year guys!! Talk more on Monday!

Make an effort, not an excuse.

hi ladies,

yes i'm back. tail between my legs and sorry for disappearing on everyone. i thought of everyone often, but just wasn't making sp and myself a priority. i missed you all!

you all last saw me back in october. that's when life started getting crazy. i had been to washington and then quit my volunteer work. and mostly, that's when nutcracker nonsense started! my oldest joined a ballet company, and we were doing 10 hours a week of class and rehersals. it didn't leave much time or energy for much else. but she did great. she danced 3 parts, and the director said almost 1700 people came to see the performances! and of course i volunteered for alterations and concesssion and anything else they needed. and then all the normal craziness of the holidays.

and back in october, my goals were looking great. i got all the way down to 163. I WAS SO CLOSE!! but then i started birth control pills again. it doesn't account for all of my weight gain, but i'm swimming in water retention. i started running again in november to try to combat some of the gain, but it seems i'm gaining muscle. i made it to a very cute size 10, and now those 10s are miserably tight. i gained almost immediate water weight, got depressed, and gave up on good eating. you name it, and i baked it for the holidays. cookies, candies, pies. i do it every year and usually give trays and trays away. this time i did more snacking than giving.

so i'm back, again. i was complaining last night, and my husband asked me if i was still coming to my sparky people. i made all kinds of excuses and finally said no. but i'm coming back to be accountable again.

-cecelia
ps-no, my husband still isn't back yet, but we're finally in the last count down. 17 days to go.

How are all our other teammates doing? Anyone from our team still working on eating healthy and losing weight? I've been reading a lot of recent blog posts lately and there are a lot of new people signing onto SP as part of their New Year's resolutions for healthy living in 2009.

I want to maintain my weight in the new year and to increase the amount of exercise I get. I have to admit I am lousy at recording any exercise I do. I'd rather read message boards and blogs than record my exercise minutes and food intake. I used to do it regularly but once I reached my goal weight all that stopped. It didn't seem as necessary. I suppose if I start to gain weight I'll have to take up that ornery task again. *sigh*

ZSAZSAJANNY, I am just feeling like what your signature says. lol
I'll survive with a good lesson learned.

I'm glad you had a good day yesterday! No snow here in Alabama to shovel and the gym is closed today. A nice long walk will just have to do.

As for your friends hubby singing "honey ham" all I have to say is I wish I had sung that for 3 days rather than eating it for 3 days. LOL

Oh SHELTIELADY- Are you OK? I, too, love ham and will be enjoying it tomorrow on Boxing Day, at my dear friend's house. Her husband has been going around singing 'honey ham, honey ham' since he picked the ham up last Saturday!

We celebrated Christmas yesterday due to my oldest daughter's work schedule so all I need to do today is reheat the turkey leftovers. The dinner was delicious and I didn't overeat but only because I was so exhausted after cooking it all! I had been up early, shovelled part of the driveway, gone grocery shopping and finished some last minute gift shopping. By the time I came home and got the turkey dinner cooked......I was all done in! That was the heaviest day I have put in since I had my surgery. I now know I can do it!! (Well, I realized I wasn't REALLY up to shovelling snow....so I gave that up)

Hope your day is great- MERRY CHRISTMAS!

All this week I have been telling myself that it is OK to splurge for a while. Not only have I been killing the downward movement of the scale but I feel horrible. My head aches, my tummy is "off" and I have the blahs.

Here it is Christmas day, the day I had planned to bake & eat those cookies I have been dreaming about for several months and I don't want them.

The culprit was a ham. I love ham!!!! I don't eat pork often but I cooked a ham on Monday and I have gorged on it every since. My BP is up and I have the to much sodium, my skin is to small for me feeling.

Now I read this article. well.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/12/23/th
e-
toll-of-a-holiday-eating-binge/?hp
and it doesn't make me feel any better. lol
