We have a Wii and you can watch youtube on there... and if I'm not mistaken, most of the SP videos are on youtube. I am going to try and see if I can get them to play on the Wii, hopefully without too much interruption!

I came in way under my calories yesterday, so I treated myself to a small bowl of ice cream. My husband is starting to get on board and he constantly grills me on what I'm eating and asks how many calories I have left for the day. This is much different (and better!) than last time. Since he is having his own health issues, he is slowly starting to change his eating habits as well. Only a matter of time before the entire household is on board and we will all be making healthy choices!

Warm squirmy fun! ;)

I didn't see any way to add simple grams of sugar. But I keep a "running total" in my head--it's pretty easy, since that's all I'm tracking. And it's HORRIBLE! It adds up so amazingly fast--like those "protien bars" that I love--with 15!!! grams of sugar! If I take the standard 20 grams a day--you see the problem. I say I'm in the "high activity" camp, which puts gives me in the 30 gram range--though I'm probably fooling myself...

But even with 30 grams a day to work with, there are added sugars in virtually everything. On the other hand, it's been a really helpful guide for me.

And today I am back down to the lowest I've been in over a year!! Woo Hoo for tracking--it really is what makes the difference.

And the ab stuff is showing results. I'm not as strong or conditioned as you are, Audra--probably not overall where I should be with any good conditioning except perhaps aerobic. But abs are a personal vanity, and I'm loving seeing some change there.

Gonna shop for a new purse inVegas--odd, perhaps, but they do have multiple outlet malls...

Deb, does SP let you track Sugar as a Nutrient now? Last time I looked, you couldn't get that pulled in the reports... Right now, my goal is, "if you bite it, write it" - I need to be accountable again... And I need to get on a better sleep schedule. And I need to exercise. All that basic stuff that really works if you actually do it...

Have a safe trip into LV!

Think of me around 11am - I'll be in puppy heaven! I get to put my deposit down and tie a ribbon around a little brown neck tomorrow and stake my claim! Woo hoo!

Dawna, check out the SparkPeople videos - there are A LOT of them that use no or minimal equipment. You can do A LOT with body weight exercises. Squats, lunges, push-ups, yoga poses, walking in place (think Walk Away the Pounds)... and you can find "weights" around the house, even if you don't have dumbbells to do curls, presses, kickbacks, etc. Do lots of one legged work to build your core and improve your balance.

Dawna, that's wonderful. And I agree--I have tracked to get a grasp of my eating, see what was real and get it under better control, and it does help.

I've been paying attention to sugar grams--challenging, but important, and really does help me make good choices.

I believe having equipment makes it easier, but there is research that says that people do more if they do it at home. On the other hand--Audra is geat with the gym, and I do better in Jazzercise, mostly because it's fun! Well--and also because you have to be there at a specific time--helops me get it over! ;)

Packing up tonight--see you guys later!

I've really been concentrating on logging my nutrition and fitness the past few days. I've gone over on my nutrition but I figure tracking is a good way to get it under control. It is so hard to go on walks when it's raining, but today we went for a walk around the mall and then let Leilani play at the Tot Land. Just trying to figure out what exercises I can do at home without any equipment...

Wow--you must really be strong!! And under range is fabulous, even if it's by one calorie. Really, we've succeeded even if it's a few over, especially if it's less sugar and more good stuff.

Have you been reading any on the effects of sugar--specifically, not just eating more and adding weight? Bad impact. I'm trying to get down to 30 grams a day--and that's actually above the recommended level of 20, but supposed to be ok if you're active--and it's challenging. It's amazing how little sugar it takes to hit 20 grams, and it's amazing how much sugar is in everything.

The race in Austin sounds like the place you need to go! Las Vegas would not be my choice, unless there was a specific reason, like friends wanted to do it, or something like the conference. I hope this conference goes better than the one last week...what a let down!

I want to go to Vegas WITH somebody... so I don't have any pending plans... BUT, I am still trying to figure out how to get to the F1 Grand Prix in Austin in November. My "eye" is on that!

Food logged for today (major accomplishment) and I managed to (barely) stay in range... but that's a success compared to the last few weeks, so I'll take it!

Spent 45 minutes with my trainer and a 20 pound "Bulgarian bag" - I have a feeling lots of muscles are going to be sore tomorrow!

Hi to you both! I'm glad to see you. And glad you're working out, Audra. Dawna, adding some extra steps to your normal day is one way to start moving things--hope it grows!

I was off Jazzercise in New Orleans, but lost weight rom allthe walking! Back now, and happy with it. Even happier perhaps with the ab work I'm dong, and the positive--visible!--impact.

I am realizing that' I've built some scheduled bad eating into my day--didn't have it in NO, and didn't miss it without the daily triggers. Have to think about how to address that!

Las Vegas conference this weekend--wish you were there, Audra!! Have you decided about going later?

Hi Deb & Dawna... managed to get myself disconnected again... all over the map lately... starting to do better again. Amazingly, additional vitamins might be my salvation... Anyway, seriously low on sleep and going to bed... but wanted to say HI tonight!

My mom is allergic to eggs and poultry, so I've been playing around with vegan cupcakes. I made some vanilla cupcakes on Sunday using agave nectar. They were pretty decent... however the dark chocolate ganache I put on top really ruined the healthy effect! Thinking of either using one of the vegan recipes for buttercream... I love playing with my food!

I have been taking a lot of walks lately. Took a 2 mile walk around the marina and actually ended up jogging about a block (had to catch Leilani). I have also been walking to pick Ariana up from school when she has her late days, which is about 3/4 mile each way. Thinking I might drive today though because of the rain.

Hi Dawna. I had hoped to watch it before I responded, but the day was too packed. But I will watch it--and later will share another one you might appreciate, that really spoke to me.

I just got back from a conference where obesity and its health impact was the focus--and it's all bad! It shortens our lives, and makes the lives we do have worse. Fat cells feed depression, and fibromyalgia, heart disease and cancer--more cancers, and more aggressive cancers.

And the research is also clear that it's easier to lose than to keep it off, something we all knew! Research does indicate that focus--time and energy--and tracking--even just tracking your weight daily--make a positive difference in keeping it off.

So does walking--we were in New Orleans last week, and I actually lost weight--partly because I was too bust to eat too much, partly because I worked hard to make good choices, and partly because we walked for miles!

Working on emotional eating right now. Got some not so great news on Friday and found myself turning to junk food over the weekend. Definitely something I need to work on... especially since Ariana has already started on her own track of emotional eating. The only difference is that I don't hide it and she does.

On the bright side, while I was working, I was managing my food choices very well and actually lost a few pounds. Only issue is that I was way too tired and busy to actually find time to exercise.

Watching a documentary that has me re-thinking the food I put in my house and exactly how it is damaging our bodies. Food Fight with Alice Waters is definitely something I recommend watching!

Bummer... if I was going, it would be the 3rd weekend... but I haven't gotten any details from Sue or Tracey about it... so I doubt I'll be going.

It's been a rough few weeks... I have not been able to be too active... spending way too much time in front of a screen. And my body HURTS from it... trying to revamp my schedule to be able to move more. I need to make yoga classes desperately.

I'm glad that you had a wonderful Easter with your family.

Hope you had a good Easter! We had a wonderful day with 'the kids'--I'm starting to realize my daughter and her husband are not "kids"!! But it was great to be with family. And to see my grand-Mary!

OK--I fly in on Friday, April 27, about 5PM, and leave in the dark of the morning on Monday the 30th.

Which means if you're there Saturday and Sunday, we could surely "do lunch"! I hope so!

Deb, it's basically the same thing as human growing pains!
Finn is doing better today - at least when he thinks he's not being watched! If he sees you watching him, his limp gets worse! Little faker! I think he's enjoying all the extra attention! Right now, he's getting away with sleeping IN MY LAP so that I'm stretched out over his head to type. Brat. He's still in pain, but it does seem that the meds are helping and he's feeling better.

Your events sound like they'll be great - and in awesome locations! When will you be in Las Vegas? Still an outside chance that I may get to go there in April, too.

My food has been on track the last week, but still not getting in much exercise.
My sleep has been all screwed up since the time change and all the early morning appointments. I'm still barely rolling out of bed to make it to work by 9:45... and that means I'm not able to make Group-X at the gym. It's a problem that just keeps compounding. I need to get back to yoga asap before my muscles get so tight I can't move at all.

Wow--I have never heard of such a thing! Our son had literal growing pains--it was hard for him for about a year. But good to know it will work itself out.

And good work, working out while it all went on!! ;)

April will be a traveling month for me--New Orleans for a conference--Society of Behavioral Medicine, good conference. In fact, I'm doing an all day thing on obesity, inflammation and cancer, which I think will be motivating!! My husband's going with me--otherwise I'd never walk around at night, and I just want him to! Then at the end of the month, a weekend MMPI conference in Las Vegas--which I've never been to. I think it will be interesting!

Eating pretty well, pretty much on track, Jazzercizing consistently, and doing extra tummy stuff--my tummy was always a source of pride for me, and it's gone wobbly!!

I had some fun buying clothes this weekend. I got SO discouraged when I went to the mall--I'm just too tall. Gary looked up a bunch of tall women's places on-line, and said "Buy some clothes!"--so I did! Yes, that was fun! Course, they're not here yet...

Good to hear from you,, and I'm excited for the work you're doing with the Challenge! Let me know how it goes!

I've been sooooo busy with Challenge Admin and work... been hard to get here...

Today was a LONG day of worrying around here... but the final verdict is overall, a good one. Baby Finn is limping because he has Panosteitis - which is "growing pains." He may have some intermittent lameness caused by the pain as he's finishing going from puppyhood to doggyhood. But no trauma to his shoulder, no signs of any joint problems, no expensive meds or procedures... just time and rest!

And I had a good workout at the gym even with all this going on. emoticon

Another BUSY day, but I have EXCITING news!

The breeders chocolate lab had her puppies in the wee hours of the morning! Kona now has TWELVE tiny mouths to feed! 8 boys and 4 girls - and one of the boys is MINE!!!

I'm going to post a photo off her FB page to my page if anyone wants to see!

Deb, today I'm good! Baby news has made me happy! Glad you're back to "normal!" Good luck with your work situation... it's hard to think that with 10-12% unemployment that it's hard to find workers - but we've had that issue, too.

How are you doing? I overate on my birthday weekend--it was a conscious decision-but seem to be back to real-life pretty well. Haven't weighed though...!

I'm distressed at work--no new applicants on the horizon, one who might be good but who can't start till August--we'll have basically had a whole year of partial production, and the impact on our referral sources will be permanent, I fear.

Guess I'm giogn to have to get to work to figure out what to do!

Glad to hear you're working on a new team challenge--sounds exciting! And I'll say this for your visits to rabbit-land--you get back out way faster than you used to!

I'm making progress--next weekend is my birthday/time at lake/reason to party, which is of course a huge challenge. In fact, frankly, I don't even plan nt to overeat--I just plan to get going again when I'm done!

I'm here, I'm here. I'm okay... it was a way wacked out weekend... got sooooo off schedule and fell down the rabbit hole, but I'm topside again and doing fine! I have been Sparking in the background... doing a lot of revamping of the challenge format for the 30somethings team... a lot of revamping... we've even changed it from being a "Biggest Loser Challenge" to a "Healthy Living Challenge!" We're coming down to the wire - we start Monday and we're still mapping out all our challenges! Oye!

I told Kurt I'm like the person trying to spin the plates... I can get 4 going, and when I start to try and get the 5th one going, I lose at least the first 3...

Hi Dawna! It's nice to see you back here! Congrats on your new job opportunity and with your new plan to be a roll model for Ariana. Hard to believe Leilani is almost 3! We can remember back before she was here! How is your job going? Are you enjoying it so far?

Deb, I'm glad that you're finding your "new normal" and embracing it! You'll surely be a "Master of Maintenance" in no time!

I'm making progress. And I believe it is because I found that place inside where I fully and in truth was not ok with where I was.

That's what happened when I lost at first, and it's why I gained some back--cause really I had gone too far and I knew it. And then I saw that I had gone too far the other way.

Until I hit that place where I really don't like where I am, where I see the truth, I make excuses. When I see that, it comes together.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to help other people find it. Though I do think getting used to a new normal is part of it. Maybe when we lose, we think it's so amazingly far that it's normal to gain some back; then we see that that lower spot is also too high, then find a better place.

Anyway--I think I will be more able to maintain this time. At the new normal.

Hi Dawna. You're right--it is amazing how quickly the little ones grow up. I agree that giving our loved ones good habits is one of the most important part of our changes! I hope you can maintain the movement toward your goals, and at work.

I am fighting the last couple of pounds back to goal--and making good progress. Maintenance will be easier now that I am more clear and sure about where I want to maintain! I had been lower than I liked--but then got a bit higher. I do think maintenance will go better now--I'm ready to see!

Off to work--later!

I did pretty good with tracking today... and I have so far increased my water intake from 4 glasses of water to 6. I just gotta make sure I get in some exercise. Tomorrow, we are thinking of a dinner picnic down at the waterfront and do some walking.

I found out today that I have orientation for my new job on Monday... so I will probably be starting right after that! I am really looking forward to this new challenge. I do wonder how I will get any exercise in since my job will be 8 hours on my feet! I am already imagining how much weight I'm going to lose just by going to work!

Hey everybody!

I let myself get sucked back into that nasty unhealthy lifestyle... and now I have a lot of work to do to get back on track! I lost my job back in October and then the hubby lost his not long after. A lot to deal with. Past that though... I was recently hired on as a Pastry Cook in a casino and I should be starting any day now. Full time and benefits *happy dance*. Antonio has a few really positive leads going right now and it's just a big waiting game.

Right now, I am heavier than I was when we first started 4 years ago. I need to make a change and do it now. Ariana needs me to be a good role model... she is hitting puberty and her diet and exercise are severely lacking. I have reacquainted myself with some of the tools this site provides and I will definitely start tracking again. I did find a new (to me) tool though: an app for my phone! I saw it and immediately downloaded it on my phone... now I can track on the go!

I hope everybody is doing well and I am sorry I've stayed away so long. Oh, and other news, Miss Leilani is turning 3 at the end of this month! How time flies!

My husband's mom. She turned 87--and she's fun and healthy and active and we love her dearly! We started planning a big bash her 90th today...I just so hope she can enjoy it!

I'm feeling much better tonight. I'm sure I'll be up and running tomorrow... at least bugs like this seem to come and go quickly - unlike that god-awful head crud that hangs on for 6-8 weeks!

Sounds like you had a BUSY weekend. Who's birthday did you celebrate?

The carousel is very neat!! And that is amazing, and very cool, that you and your mom picked out the same 'best horse'! You share hearts for sure!

I have some fears about the weekend--mostly because I couldn't exercise enough. Our Jazzercise folks were at a meeting yesterday--but then I was speaking out of town anyway, traveling the rest of the day. And today down at my husband's moms--I should have taken shoes and walked, and didn't which was really foolish. Birthday cake, barbeque for lunch. Can't be good. But we'll see. No other big episodes of bad choices.

Glad you are feeling better--and though it is better not to miss work--dang, to miss a weekend is just not right!

Rest up, and I hope you're back on top tomorrow.

I want to say that it was a laundry service, not do-it-yourself, but I'm sure it was there... I mean, think of all the linens and things they have to do at sea! Towels and sheets and table clothes and napkins and all their uniforms! You'll be fine!

I'm starting to feel better today. So sorry that I missed out on a weekend - at least it feels like that... but if I had to be sick with stomach flu, at least I didn't have to miss work to recover.

Hoping I'm well enough to make it back to the gym tomorrow.

Hope you're doing well on your weekend no gain goals!!!

I came across this article about the historic carousel at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and wanted to share.

My mom was on this ride when the announcement was made that WWII had ended. Back then, there wasn't fencing between the ride and people waiting in line. The people around the carousel jumped on to celebrate and the great ride nearly ground to a halt.

My mom and I, decades apart, also picked out the same "best horse" on the ride - the one I went to as a child was the one she went to as a child.

The preservation efforts of the Boardwalk to keep the Carousel and the Giant Dipper running after all these years means multiple generations can share the same experience. It's an awesome thing.

I will hang laundry off the balcony if I need to! ;) But I'm delighted to hear they may have laundry. And I am working on that very plan--mix and match! I've got some things working--we'll see! We don't go till June, but now is the time to get summer things, especially if you want choices.

I really am happy to hear you are doing so well--and even with end of the month pressures. Amazing! And excited to hear Kurt is pleased. I agree--the inconsistencies are what hurt me. It was funny--the more I have actually stayed under my limit, the easier I feel it is. And the more I track, same thing. I've discovered I track best mid-day, and putting in all my planned food for the rest of the day--I see what I'm doing, and it energizes me for the rest of the day.

You have really stuck it with exercise and with Kurt. Your exercise consistency helped get me back on track. So I'm not surprised Kurt is pleased with your progress!

Friday. I am planning for and determined to enjoy another 'no gain' weekend! Heck, I may even lose this weekend! Where we are, we're so close to where we want to be, that even losing small amounts makes big differences!

I believe they had laundry service on the cruise I was on... when again to you sail?

Mix and match pieces! You know how they take 8 items and mix and match them into 30 outfits in the magazines? Think about that!

And even if they don't have laundry service, what's stopping you from taking a little bottle of liquid laundry soap for emergency wash in your room?

ACK! I got disconnected from here... stupid new phone user!

Glad that you're getting on track and had a great weekend!

I was so far down the rabbit hole a week ago... it's hard to believe that I've been bounced back from that for days and haven't had any meltdowns at work - even with stressful stuff going on and month-end stuff!

I'm doing way better on being aware - now to get my food on track and keep it there! My inconsistencies there are what's really holding me back now. Kurt's very pleased with my physical progress lately.

Welcome to March--and by my birthday, at the end of the month, I intend to be back where I belong, weight-wise. Stayed in range yesterday, and counted it all. Getting back on track, and staying on. I am ready to do maintenance again--and I'll do it better this time!

Audra--I didn't gain!!! I didn't gain over the weekend!

Maybe it just hasn't shown up yet. But maybe limiting "wild" to just Sat evening, and working hard other times--even if I didn't do it perfectly--oh I SO want to get this struggle behind me, and maintain at the place I want to be, instead of mainting just above where I want to be!!

I actually weiged three times. And I still fear it's just not shown up yet.

Smart woman--being cognizant of triggers is the core!

I got swept away by triggers--triggers of
1:friends and family visiting
2: gifts of homemade food
3: "special" food--I made an Italian coconut cream cake I had been wanting for many months.
Honestly, I'm not sure if I went 'totally wild' both days, or if I just went wild Sat evening and only went over yesterday--guess we'll see today when I weigh in. But it has to stop--I am sick of "special"!! I've tried to make plans to be home and not have company till my birthday at the end of March. I believe that will help me focus.

Glad about your computer and phone!! Wonderful to be connected in, and feel solid with it all! I actually did a bit of shopping yesterday--I've been trying to figure out how to pack 16 days of clothes, including two evening dresses, into one suitcase. And no laundry--or maybe they have a laundry on the ship! That would help...

I'M BACK! Now with a new laptop with OLD data {doing major happy dance} and a new Smart Phone! Now I have the laptop pretty much up and running and dialed back in... but the phone... yeah, I have A LOT to learn with it yet! I just haven't had the time today to deal with it. Maybe getting the phone learned can be my project for next weekend.

I hope that you had a wonderful time with your family this weekend. And I hope you stuck firmly to that healthy eating plan! I did not stick to any plan over the weekend... but I'm back at it tomorrow... back to feeling better and taking care of myself, and I'm going to manage stress as much as I can. Part of the meltdown Thursday, now that I look back at it, was all stress induced with the whole computer thing... but that wasn't all of it... but I'm trying to be cognisant of triggers.

A little retail therapy is always fun! And it's so good that your mom really helps you instead of subtly pulling you off track--I've actually heard of that. Hate to hear about your computer--it's always a pain--but sometimes it's good to start over with a new one. I've had excellent results with the last one I got (knock on wood, seems almost dangerous to say that aloud!)

My daughter and grandbaby are down for the weekend! We're having them, my dad, our niece and her husband who just moved here from Seattle, the daughter of a friend and her husband, (who are the same age as the couple who just moved here)--8 adults and 4 babies--all over tonight for dinner and dessert. I may be too busy to overeat!! ;)

I went through my eating plan this morning before I even got out of bed--including snacks. I do have intent to eat a roll and dessert tonight--special stuff--but with dessert I only want slivers. (did you notice that healthy self talk? Did that on purpose...I only WANT slivers! And it's true!!) I'm not doing the over-eat all weekend thing. Because--

Summer is coming! I got a new bathing suit--we have people on the boat, and I'm too tall for most one-pieces to feel good, but my bikinis are not guest appropriate, and I found a really great 'bikini' with a skirt, and good coverage, but flattering, and I want to look as good as I can in it--at the lake, and on the cruise ship in June, too! And that awareness is helping me stay focused.

Off to Jazzercise with my daughter this morning! Hope you have a great time this weekend--and that you find the paths to stay out of funk-spots!

Was in such an awful funk on Thursday, I didn't even realize that no one had posted here!

Hi all! So it's been an interesting day... I called my mom and said I needed help pulling out of the funk I was in and asked her if she wanted to run errands and go shopping. So we got up and got going... did the big "chore" first - and took my dead laptop to Best Buy... Basically for them to replace the hard drive and do a data transfer, it was half the cost of a new laptop! So I ended up buying a new laptop! They have my old one and my new one... they're going to try and get my data off the old one and onto my new one (at no additional charge) and hopefully I'll have it back tomorrow! After that costly little excursion, we did some fun stuff - Bed Bath & Beyond, Michael's, and Home Goods were we each got a few things. We hadn't been into Home Goods before - the shop just opened before Christmas. It was a pretty neat store - lots of random stuff that made it worth going almost aisle by aisle. I treated her to Fro Yo for lunch and we ate outside in the sunshine. All in all, a good day. Didn't make it to the gym, but got in lots of steps! And I'm feeling better and planning on doing the triple tomorrow.

G'day, Ti! Always nice to have you pop in to chat with us!

Deb, I sure hope that you get help at work SOON, too!
If I was financially stable... (and a bit more emotionally stable!) I would be looking to adopt... but I'd want at least a toddler! I like when the 3T requirement is met... at least two, talking, and toilet trained! emoticon

One more day of work this week and then hopefully NO PHONE CALLS or Webmail over long weekend! I need to start planning my workouts for the next few days. We're supposed to have nice weather. Want to try and go for a walk around the lake - since I've lived her 11+ years and haven't been there!

Also have to find out what's gone on with my laptop. I think my hard drive failed. Going to talk to IT tomorrow and then see if I can take it in or what... I don't have too much not backed up... but still frustrating to think I might have lost anything. Sigh. At least my mom is being sweet and letting me use hers at night!

Dream big and then work to make those dreams come true! We're all stronger than we think we are!
