Dawna, I'm so glad things are going well for you, and I love the name you have picked out! I have a local friend due tomorrow... but she thinks baby-to-be, Wyatt, is going to take a few more days!

You're lucky to live so close to your doctor! I am a 20-45 minute drive from all of mine! Part of the "price" of living up the hill. We do have an urgent care clinic, which is good, but it's not part of the "network" - at least for my medical group. My insurance does cover it at least.

Thank you ladies! I just hit third trimester and just trying to not gain too much weight. We picked out a jogging stroller. I can't wait to give it a whirl. I also have a moby wrap and plan on trying babywearing. My doctor told me I couldn't do anything I haven't been doing since the beginning, so I've been stuck with walking. Unfortunately, even that is limited because it's painful. I have been walking to my OB appointments since it's only about 3 blocks away. It has definitely been helping keep my blood pressure in check!

Oh yeah, we're having another girl! We are naming her Savannah Jade :)

I hope y'all are doing well and I can't wait to get back into the swing of things.

Anniversary week sort of went by me in a complete blur... mostly, all of February was a blur... work, being sick, going to Vegas for a long weekend... then back to work to pack in more than 40 hours in 4 days... tell me why I bothered going away in the first place? I'm going into February close behind and so stressed... wish I didn't have to come home and back to reality!

But still at it - still have goals - still have hope! Just need to keep focused!

Happy Anniversary week to us! Thanks for the reminder, Audra.

I feel pretty good about what I see as the most important things. I've been using 'MyFitnessPal to track, because I think it's easier, but it's still tracking calories and exercise. Not always--but any time things get out of hand. I now know when I'll have trouble, and more importantly, how to deal with it!

My weight has never gone back up above my original goal, though it has gone, and stayed, above my original low point. As I looked at the long game, that was lower than I wanted, but my current target/consistent weight is a good one, healthy, and maintainable.

Exercise is more important to me now--well, it always was, but I'm more conscious of my exercise and food choices as a lifelong process, and gift for health and function.

Anyway--this is a lifestyle, not a task--that is the truth I really do know now. And I'm really proud of all of us who have stuck it, the ones I know about, and the ones I don't.

I sometimes think of specific Sparkfriends who I haven't seen in years, and wonder how they are doing...

And I still tell everyone who has any interest in weight/health management about Spark--and the ones who do it, benefit!

Ti, congratulations on successfully maintaining AND on making a decision to "finish" the journey. I know a few people who have done that and don't have any regrets. I am super happy for you!

I don't know how I missed your post, Dawna, but I'm so excited for you!
And I'm awfully excited for you too, Ti. I think you're making a very wise choice as you said, finishing up something that you started a long time ago and have maintained beautifully! I hope you'll post pictures!

Hi All from the other side of the big pond!

Congrats on the baby news Dawna! Have a great holiday Deb.

I'm around, not logging everything obsessively but definitely still a sparker at heart. You know you've made it when you know the calorie value of food and exercise from memory...

So it's been almost 7 years, a bit over 5 years since I reached my goal weight, i've been maintaining the 100-110 pounds loss for that long and although I still have to make good decisions, it has become second nature. I decide my new years resolution this year is to have the tummy tuck surgery and finish (properly, and once and for all) what I started 7 years ago. I regret not having done it earlier, I let the doctors talk me out of it 2-3 years ago "give your skin time, it will bounce back" - it never did, it never will, and "you can't have the surgery if you're ever planning on having children" - I'm 35 and single, chances are I won't have kids, but even if I do, I can handle lose skin from a pregnancy. So here we go, I'll be having the surgery in October when mum comes to visit, so a bit of work to do between now and then!

take care all,
Ti

Good enough progress sounds good--yo both have a really demanding job. One that will eat you up if your internal demands are open to every external demand they put out!

We're off to KC today, to fly out to Mexico in the early dark hours tomorrow morning, so I won't be on much for a while. We're supposed to have wireless, so I should be able to check in.

The folks we'll be with--we're at a private home, with a large party..anyway, they drink and eat a lot, and of course that's always a risk on vacation. Should be able to walk a lot, though. I'm pretty reluctant about this trip...I'm a bit of an odd duck with the group, very different interests...oh well. I have life lessons to learn, I believe, about being me when others are so very different!

And what a great place to learn--on the beach! ;)

Love it!

Survived another long day at work... making "good enough" progress considering I'm covering my desk AND the AP desk. Can't wait for Jen to be back to work... she's having a HARD time post op... she's trying to get back in with her surgeon for another follow-up tomorrow.

Deb, I just loved reading all your lessons... after coming through a rough year myself, I was so happy to turn the page, and I've reconnected and recommitted to SparkPeople and being part of this amazing community.

I hope you're able to get yourself a Fitbit! I'm finding it motivating to see my steps go up... and it's made me leave my desk for short walks with coworkers for 2 days in a row now!

Hi guys--good to see you! Karoline, I love that you're still involved. And I think I will get a Fitbit too. My daughter got my husband one for Christmas, and I have "Fitbit envy"!

Here's what I've learned--well, hopefully I've learned more than this! And where I am now:

1. My original goal was too high--but the weight I ultimately reached was too low. I had to fight to maintain -- it was not natural for me.

2. The weight I am now works. But I have to watch, keep track of my health habits, to stay here.

3. Stress makes me lose sleep and gain weight. I went through a really horrid time, for about 6 months, toward the end of last year. I was anxious, probably depressed, and slept horribly. During that time I exercised fairly regularly, I ate like I usually do, even tracked, but I gained weight, and could not stop it. And as soon as I got through the issue, and went back to my "normal crazy", I lost the pounds I had gained, and went back to my normal weight issues. So--I knew the psychophysical research before that, but after the experience, the old bit about sleep and stress took on new meaning for me!

4. I always need new goals. And weight loss can't always be it! So now, in addition to continuing to work toward muscle (my nemesis), I'm also working toward flexibility (my OTHER nemesis!). I'm horribly un-flexible, and it's a good goal, because I can already see the difference. Just a little, but it's just been less than a week!

5. This is a lifelong process. Not an "I hit goal and I'm on to new things" process, but an "I hit that goal and now here's a new one" process.

And I'm glad to have learned these things, and I'm ok with the process!!

And I'm also very glad and grateful to have met you overcoming women!! Just notice-0-none of us are back where we started--or worse. And that's outside the statistical norm, and an achievement!

Wow how time flies! Things are going well. I am being a cliche and starting afresh this year. Got myself a FitBit flex and also using the app Pact so I have an extra motivation to work out (If I don't it's $5 per missed workout!) But I also get money from others if I make it.

Hope you're all well!

Congrats, Dawna! I hope you're feeling well so far and excited about the coming addition to the family!

I have just been doing some walking myself... on SP a bit more, but not logging enough yet... working on it. 2014 has been a very rough year.

I have been walking a lot more, but I'm not really working on losing weight right now. I just found out that I'm pregnant! Due in July :)

Been so long since I have checked in here... don't know how I managed to get so disconnected... but it happened... I'm back to being on SP more now. Hope to see some others wander in, too!

I've gained weight the last 2 weeks. I know what I am doing wrong and I know how to fix it. I just have no motivation to do it. I find that the closer we get to September, the more emotional I am getting. I KNOW exercise will help with the excess emotions, but sitting on my butt and stuffing my face is more seductive at the moment.

Hi all! Just dropping in to say g'day from this side of the pond, I hope you've all been doing really well.

I'm back to tracking on SP, good old faithful comes to the rescue again, just working on re-losing the 10lbs that have crept back on over the last few years so I will be around for a while again.

Take care,

I'm down 2.4 lbs this week!!! I changed up my elliptical workout today and split it in half with a 10 minute break in between. I actually felt like I worked harder!

I have been challenging myself to get 30 minutes on the elliptical. I started out at 10 minutes. My kindle is my secret! I either watch part of a show on Netflix or read a book while listening to music. Gotta keep my mind busy!

sounds yummy!!

weighing in is always a good idea, keeps you on track. I weigh myself EVERY morning on the same scale in the same place as soon as I wake up. Its always best to do it then because if you wait, you get a unreliable number due to food and beverage consumption. I am usually up 2 pounds by evening.

Gettin back in the swing of things myself, hittin the gym again regularly :)

Weighed in yesterday. Gained 3 lbs, weighed again a few hours later and it was only 2 lbs. Weighed this morning and was down another pound. I had AF last week and ended up skipping 3 days of exercise, which explains the gain. Either way, back on track! Woke up and did 30 minutes on my elliptical. Now I am eating blueberry pancakes with a smidgen of butter and syrup.

Let me just say that I LOVE having my own elliptical! I use my kindle with some ear buds to listen to music AND read. Makes the 20 minutes go by faster. Eventually I will work up to an hour long show on Netflix :)

Thank you both for the kind words. When we held Gabriella, we could see how sick she was, and that has helped me to be at peace.

Deb... it is so EASY to forget that there is healthy food all around us. I know that I bypass them just because it would take more work to prepare the fresh foods. It is definitely something I'm working on again. That and portion sizes!

I'm so sorry, Dawna. And Good work, to both of you, that you're addressing it. The emotional pain should be honored and dealt with in words, emotions and actions--not added to our bodies to plague us!!

My recent 5 lbs were just plain stupid--no excuse other than I suddenly decided if I could eat without thought on my vacation to Belize, I could do it always! Of course, on that vacation we were hiking and walking and swimming and going constantly, and there was only really healthy food available--but I conveniently "forgot" that!!

But I'm dealing with it as well. We will not be sucked back in to the old paths. We deserve real, healthy, open lives, with healthy bodies!!

Mine was more emotional than physical. DH and I got pregnant in December, found out our baby had a chromosome disorder in February, and she passed in May at 24 weeks. During my pregnancy, I actually lost 15lbs. I have been playing with 5lbs since.

Still here!! I can relate to having a rough few months, had a knee injury that kept me from running from last nov til may! I went up over 10 pounds and it may not sound like a lot, BUT IT IS!!! And it is SO much harder coming off! I am eating good and working outg like crazy, but it just gets harder and harder to take off pounds as we get older :(

My knee-jerk reaction was "weekends suck"--which is utterly stupid of me, since I love weekends!!

I think something more along the lines of "I suck at making wise choices on the weekend" is what I need to see! I did not do quite as badly this weekend, simply because I really did realize I'm in a bad and dangerous place. But weekends are the reason the bad stuff happened in the first place. Well--and vacations, too.

I'm off to change my tracker.

If you're working out again and eating right, you'll get there!

Which I need to tell myself. I 'suddenly', at the end of last week, realized I was flirting with my old 'upper limit'. And it is too high. It happened slowly, up 2, down 3...up 3, down 2, again and again, till I have gained 5 or 6 lbs. Nasty.

I'm going to reset my weight Monday--Haven't changed it in ages cause I was thinking I was having 'normal fluctuations".... Nope. I was slowly gaining.

Dang. emoticon

Oh! And speaking of biking... today's ride was the most elevation climb I have done in a single ride - EVER! I didn't have any panic moments. Really happy with how the ride went.

Now to go pack! And get a little sleep... dang little, cuz it's 11:15pm and I have to be up at 6:30 because we're swimming at 7:30am - before we leave for Tahoe! ACK!

OMG - sorry about the toe... but the rest of the stuff sounds AMAZING!!!

I've done NOTHING all year, and now I have something happening like EVERY weekend.

I'm off this weekend to North Shore - for Ironman Lake Tahoe. We have a volunteer meeting at 2pm tomorrow. Then a Club dinner. Then we're going to be able to see the swim start, work a shift on the bike course in the afternoon, and then we're making our way to the finishing area to cheer people on.

Next weekend, I think I'm doing a 5k and then doing to the Dixon Corn Maze (the largest one) with friends.

Then the weekend after that is 32 miles in Levi's Grand Fondo in Santa Rosa. The weekend after that is the Golden State Sprint Distance Triathlon.

Then the weekend after that, I think I get a break! It's the weekend of Trophy Cup, but we've decided to not go this year. The last weekend in October is the SJVLPA benefit concert with the Chris Gardner Band... and probably something for Halloween...

I'll be ready to collapse by November!

Belieze sounds amazing!!

I feel mushy, although its a few pounds, and actually I am 116.8 today, I really haven't been in a routine of lifting since I got back from aruba, so my definition is not what it was :( No doubt that if not this weekend, come monday, I am back to lifting hard core like my normal self!! The toe is almost back to normal :) will have to jump back in to INSANITY too

Hi wild woman! We've been inactive here, it's true. I see Audra on Facebook, biking her legs off--makes me feel like a slug!! I'm weaseling around, exercising pretty well, eating right on the edge.

So glad you got to have such a fun trip! Not been there, but from pictures it looks like Aruba has such great water. And I hope to hear what you think of Panama. We're going to Belize in March, but that's AGES away!!

Your toe experience sounds horrible--aaagh! But it's hard to buy mushy in two pounds--though when you're right at goal, it does make an immediate difference, so I guess I have to remember you know what you're talking about when you're talking about your own body!!

Oh no!! Our little team has become inactive!!

I have been out and about, I started working out 2x a day before I went to Aruba in July!! My boyfriend & I went to Wildwood NJ July 11-14, then I had my cousins weeding the next weeked and then, We went to ARUBA!! It was AMAZING! I got to 115.6 the morning we left!! When I got back it was hard to get back in the swing of things. I just started to really get going, and restrated INSANITY when Sat the 7th of this month, I stubbed my toe SO HARD on sidewalk walking dog that the tip of my toe actually came off LOL!! The skin barely hung on, then looked like it was reattaching, but came off a few days ago. Now I am FINALLY able to workout again!! I am 117.6 but I feel mushy :(
Going to Panama with my best friend Terri 11/6!! Gotta start working out hard again!!

Smart woman with the stretchy yoga stuff--for everything, but especially that hip. Your plan is ambitions and challenging, and I say hats off to you!!!

We take our babygirl back today! :( I will miss her so much!!! But I know it will give me time to do other things... sigh... :)

I can't have my nemesis(s) in the house either--even driving by one specific cupcake place is dangerous--I may literally take a different route.

Don't you just love the spike you get from sodium and a binge? It adds up fast, but at least goes down quickly, as long as you don't keep it up!

I just can't have stuff in my house... I can't have snack foods... even salted almonds are a no-no... so no chips, popcorn, etc. And NO NO NO peanut butter... plain almonds are okay. That's about it!

Decided tonight what I'd like my "race season" to look like.
If things go as planned, it will be 6/30 Aqua Bike - 1.5K swim, 40K bike
8/3 Sprint Tri - .5mi / 16mi / 3 mi
And in Sept - either the Woman's Triathlon Festival (what I did last year) or Pacific Grove Olympic. It will depend on if I can get a wetsuit, if I can get over the fear of swimming with kelp, and if my back/hip will allow me to return to running to do the 10K. If any of those things is a NO, then I'll do the Festival.
And I've started a stretch/yoga/pilates based program for my back/hip to help with that.

Yes, that's the exact kind of irrational thoughts I get with sweets. Crazy thinking--but so easy! Because getting them out of the danger zone IS a good goal. Just an irrational plan for doing it.

Having sweets in their own controlled area may be the most and best I can do. Not all over my life, not all over any days, but at specific times and places. When I do that, I do well.

The danger, of course, is them jumping the fence...

I had a really bad weekend of eating! I, too, thought I could eat like I used to! I went into the weekend friday at 121.8 and ended monday at 125.0!! Luckily, after running 5 miles tues and 4.5 miles yesterday and eating better i was 121.6 this morning!! I still have a few girl scout cookies though. I keep telling myself I have to eat them so I can be rid of them LOL!!

I believe you're probably right. But I can't seem to make myself do it. I find all sorts of reasons--like "I didn't have to do it last time", or "I shouldn't have to live like that just for my weight".

I am seriously corralling when I eat it, and maybe that will help...

We take Mary back home tomorrow, and they arrive in the evening. We will miss her. She has been wonderful--a blessing for us to have so much time with her.

But we will not miss their dogs. The biggest one has not been "bad" in that she hasn't growled at me or threatened to bite me this time, but we've had some horrible dogfights in our house--a horrible experience. She's just not fun to keep.
