Yeah, once a while ago, I saw a little puppy, maybe 6 weeks old? wandering from the sidewalk to the road. There wasn't any people around it, like it had wandered out of it's yard or something. And this is a main road, so lots of traffic, very fast. So the puppy kinda stumbles off the sidewalk and the truck in front of me clips the little guy. I slam my brakes on (DH is the passenger and he thinks I'm insane ...) I throw open the door, oblivious to the cars whizzing past me, and go grab up the little guy. He seemed okay, just a little stunned. Then this little kid come running up, tears streaming from his face, thanking me. THAT's when I noticed all the cars breaking behind my car, DH sitting there white faced!
Yep. I've also been known to slam the brakes on for a family of bunnies crossing the road. They were soooo cute!
And, the first time I got rear-ended (back in 2000) --- I'd been being tail-gated (on post, so speed limit was only 30 anyway) and this lady behind me kept ducking down as if she was trying to get something from the floor. SO I'm watching her in my rear view mirror and one eye on the road and in the distance, oh, about 1/8 mile away I see deer. Not one or 2 --- like more than 20, crossing the road. SO I tap my brakes, tap them again, then start braking. Does she sit up and pay attention?? NOoooooo. She slammed into me. (She'd been looking for a CD that had fallen to the floor!!!!)
So, yes. I will risk life and limb for animals.
