.. so many people have said that pound puppies seem to be more appreciative of their 'second' homes ... don't know about that, BUT I've had my little guy over 16 years now, and He has been the Best of Dogs. If dogs don't go to Heaven, I think I'll just stay here. emoticon

Yeah, once a while ago, I saw a little puppy, maybe 6 weeks old? wandering from the sidewalk to the road. There wasn't any people around it, like it had wandered out of it's yard or something. And this is a main road, so lots of traffic, very fast. So the puppy kinda stumbles off the sidewalk and the truck in front of me clips the little guy. I slam my brakes on (DH is the passenger and he thinks I'm insane ...) I throw open the door, oblivious to the cars whizzing past me, and go grab up the little guy. He seemed okay, just a little stunned. Then this little kid come running up, tears streaming from his face, thanking me. THAT's when I noticed all the cars breaking behind my car, DH sitting there white faced!
Yep. I've also been known to slam the brakes on for a family of bunnies crossing the road. They were soooo cute!
And, the first time I got rear-ended (back in 2000) --- I'd been being tail-gated (on post, so speed limit was only 30 anyway) and this lady behind me kept ducking down as if she was trying to get something from the floor. SO I'm watching her in my rear view mirror and one eye on the road and in the distance, oh, about 1/8 mile away I see deer. Not one or 2 --- like more than 20, crossing the road. SO I tap my brakes, tap them again, then start braking. Does she sit up and pay attention?? NOoooooo. She slammed into me. (She'd been looking for a CD that had fallen to the floor!!!!)
So, yes. I will risk life and limb for animals.

I know...it's great, isn't it? But I think it does give a person a sense of comfort.

Hubby and I were driving yesterday and the car in front of us hit and killed a beagle. He ran right out in front of them and they swerved but they couldn't miss the little thing. I cried and almost got sick! Even hubby got choked up 'cause we saw the whole thing happen.

That "Rainbow Bridge" poem really chokes me up. It was VERY well written.
I had Lassie (he was a "laddie", though ... haha) for 12 years. He was a really good dog ... Yes, I miss him.

AMEN...the best dog we ever had was a "drop off" dog! She just showed up in our yard one day....part German Shepherd, part Collie. We had her for 14 years and still feel an empty hole in our heart from her passing to Rainbow Bridge.....

Aw, JamesKevin! There are a LOT of dogs at the pound who have the potential of being GOOD pets. Fact is, most rescued become the most faithful pets EVER.

I belong to a Herding Dog team at SparkPeople and one of the gals on there does Freestyle dancing with her dogs. I saw one of her videos and it's amazing....I'll try to find it so you can watch her as well.

LOL Maya! I was actually looking up some LINE DANCING - then got into DISCO - then wanted to find GREASE - and that video was there!
That took some real intense training, I think, unless that dog was a "natural" with the beat!

I had seen this before and it is totally awesome! I wonder how many hours she spent in training to get the dog to do this.
