Here's an update: At the last minute we changed plans and went to IHOP. I checked IHOP's menu on line prior to leaving. Here's what I ordered:
~ Egg beater omelet with spinach, onion, mushrooms and tomato. Requested that they be light on the cheese.
~ Whole wheat toast dry
~ and warm fruit compote
~ Turkey sausage links
I passed on the pancakes!!

I think I took the waitress by suprise ordering such a healthy meal!! Thanks for all of you tips.

Thanks everyone. I will review their menu one more time tonight and come up with a game plan. I like breakfast foods and it is nice to know that they will accomodate my order. So far, I am thinking of a egg beater omelet with veggies, whole wheat toast and fruit.

I'll let you know how everything goes!!! BTW, thanks for the birthday wishes.

They have some awesome salads and they are filling...just get the dressing on the side.

I love Cracker Barrel. They will make special orders if you ask and the salads are wonderful. I take my own dressing with me.

I had a salad with grilled chicken. Then shared ice cream. If you are going for breakfast - they do use egg substitute if you ask - don't add butter to your whole wheat toast. Oh - I got a fruit bowl once when we stopped. maybe they still have that.

To God be all glory!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY - I will be turning the big 40 next Thursday while I am in Dayton Ohio for the Percussion world championships with my drummer boy. We will be traveling with my parents to try and save a little GAS (If that is possible anymore) and I think I heard them saying that they wanted to stop for breakfast at the Cracker Barrell. The good thing for me is that I really do not like breakfast foods (I am just fine with my granola bar). I will need a lot of prayer for my diet on the 11 hour drive and all the restaurants along the way. Sheri:)

God Bless you - Sheri

I was just there last Saturday and I didn't make a good choice but boy was it good. I did see a grilled chicken breast and they have a grilled catfish that my hubby had and he said it was delicious. Good luck and..........HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

I was there on Easter Sunday and they do offer veggies and I do believe that they offered grilled chicken as a choice which can't be as bad as the chicken fried chicken hehehe.

The last time I went, I got the vegetable plate - turnips greens, pinto beans, green beans, applesauce and whole wheat toast. Know they season with bad stuff, but thought it was better than other things.

If you are not going for breakfast, you can get a vegetable plate and choose from various offerings.

They will probably make you an egg white omelet with veges if you ask, Grilled fish is good with a salad. Also the turkey without gravy. Call them and ask before you go. That's what i do if I'm eating out in a difficult place. I call and ask what they suggest and then I plan exactly what I am going to order. Then the hard part....DO NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE MENU!!! Just order what you planned. Also eat something before you go like a piece of fruit or something to take the edge off.

I remember I was taken to a very fancy French restaurant once and I took my I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray along with me. I put it on the table and the funny thing is 3 of our party of 8 used it. It goes great on lobster in place of the butter!

I'm assuming she wouldn't consider going something else, since it is for your birthday? (as well as your sisters' bday)

If that isn't an option...good luck! LOL I did look at their menu, and my suggestions would be to either have salad with the dressing on the side (I know, not what I'd typically go to Cracker Barrel for LOL), or there are some other options that don't look too bad, such as the grilled fish or steak. There is also an oven roasted turkey breast. Basically, stay away from things either fried or with sauces LOL They do have several grilled options and other than the oatmeal or cereals, the breakfasts would scare me.

Let us know how it goes! :-)

My mother is taking me and my sister-in-law to Cracker Barrel this Saturday to celebrate our birthdays (we were both born in April).

I need help with making the healthiest food selections while eating there. I went online but Cracker Barrel's website site does not provide calories from what I can tell. Furthermore, EVERYTHING looks like is loaded with fat, sugar and/or calories!!! Any suggestions??

Thanks.
