I personally have not had shingles and I am not a doctor but rather a medical transcriptionist. I have typed a couple of reports with people with tattoos and various skin issues (not burn related) - usually in my experience typing these reports the tatts have been fine as long as they were not picked at (think about when you got the tatt and it then scabs and is fine as long as you dont pick at it). Fingers crossed for you.

Help! I'm only 32 years old and I was diagnosed with shingles this past week. For those who don't know, it is an incredibly painful burning, itching, and torn muscle type feeling accompanied by a really ugly rash. It typically occurs in people over the age of 60, which is why I'm so frustrated right now. I can't workout (I can barely walk down the hallway). And my doc put me on some meds to help me heal, but they're making me gain weight. Unfortunately, this rash also covers part of two of my tattoos. Has anyone else had experience with this? How much damage does it do to the tattoo when the scabs eventually fall off? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm just sick at the thought that I'm going to have to have these tats redone, especially after the pain due to the disease.
