Good morning everyone, thanks so much for the well wishes, I wish I could walk better but nope there seems to be an additional issue with the tendon and now I might go to the clinic tomorrow if its still causing me to limp. I can feel a big bump on the outter side of my calf up by the knee - and that is where it hurts the most.

The foot and ankle are now all black and blue - the bruising seems worse because of the baby asprin I take but all in all I can hobble lol and what not. Still icing and was elevating so will do that more today after I take Kartmen to the vets - he's got some sores on him and I just do not like them or where they are or the fact that he's constantly scratching them... thinking .. dont' know how, but tics?? They remind me of flea bits yet no fleas in sight !!

I have renewed my driver's license for the last time at a cost of 75.00 big ones yuk - but when it expires that's it .. oh and no glasses on the pic and my hair was not right - I looked at the black and white and said, ya that will do - I barely use but now my care card is part of my license lucky me, expect the real on in 60 days. I am in no hurry.

AJ you are right, just pick yourself up and dust yourself off and get busy - consider this a lousy dress rehersal for next year emoticon emoticon

Irene C that is sweet of you to keep your tree up in honour of your Ukrainian friends, I know their Xmas is on the 6th .. didn't know about their new years though... Will you have a few dishes that will delight?

Valerie, new thread at your leisure, my dear, and thanks I will try to keep off the foot, what a lousy way to spend my holidays ... grrrrrr... and back to work Monday to boot !

Irene in BC, Stephanie, Alicia, Sara, hope you all are having a good day today. I'll be back a little later ...

Hello all. Wow it's a cold one here, -27C. Definitely not walking weather but I sure need exercise of some sort. I crashed big time at the family potluck yesterday. The speed bump theory, moderation, control ---- none of them crossed my mind until the AFTER kicked in. I think I was just getting too complacent after successfully managing Christmas. So now I start the New Year by picking myself up from defeat and re-igniting my goal plan -- and I will do it.

Val - have a good day at work.
Irene C - a concert night sounds like a great idea and the ones you chose sound special. Enjoy your Ukrainian celebrations.
Lindie - hope you are feeling - and getting around - better today.
Pat - did your cold trek to the dentist go well? I'm not fond of heading out in severe cold either but will be doing that today. Pack my emergency candles & heavy coat. Did you read about the guys who burned up their car to keep warm when they were stranded on New Years Eve? Sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face?
Stephanie - hope you are enjoying your quiet times. The veggie tray thing didn't work so well for me at the potluck but, following your idea, I will keep it front and centre in the fridge and hope that works better!
Irene in BC - what a nice tradition to make contact with scattered family members on Christmas. My Mom passed away this year also so I know what you mean about the gap that is left and especially noticeable in the family traditions.
Alicia - hope your cold is better.
Sara - I like the sound of that Mind over Body series of motivational articles that you mention and will look it up. I need it! Hope you managed to spend that time with your dad and gks.
Have a good day all --- greetings to anyone I missed on this thread..... AJ

Good morning, ladies,
Hope you all had a good sleep. It's back to routine for me today - I have to go to work (darn!!)

You're right, Lindie. I'll start a new thread for us tonight when I get home from work...

Irene, I'd like to leave my tree up for a couple more weeks, but my house is just too small, so I took it down on Dec 31. When I lived in Calgary, my sister's SIL invited me to a traditional Ukrainian Christmas meal. Was it ever good! But oh, so many dishes... Do you cook all the traditional dishes as well? My sister just did some pyrishki (I think that's how it's spelled) during the holiday season. I gather they taste really good - but then, what Ukrainian dish doesn't? LOL

Well, off to work shortly, so I'm wishing everyone a really good day. And Lindie - stay off that foot as much as possible to give it time to heal!! emoticon emoticon

I recorded several concerts for us to watch new year's eve......Barbra Striesand , Pavarotti, and Kennedy Centre where Santana was being honored.

Then by 9 pm I went to bed and I usually stay up pretty late but I just didn't feel well but I'm fine now.

Thanks for your thoughts about......my not having a washer. My old machine gave me 30+ years and it's borrowed time had finally run out. It crosses my mind so much that I don't have one because there is always a load to do.

Hi Stephanie, Glad you enjoyed a nice quiet day at home. I see, you have all of your decoration put away. We usually leave our decorations up until Ukrainian Christmas in honor of my husband's heritage and we make a special day of it and also Ukrainian new year. As a matter of fact, quite a few of our friends are Ukrainian.

Hi Lindie, I see you hurt yourself. How are you feeling? Are you getting around ok? I sure hope, emoticon it heals soon.

Just dropping by before I go off to bed to say I hope you all had a great start to the new year. My vacation is over now and I have to go into work tomorrow (high of about -25C and a windchill of -35C). brrr - it's going to be a little bit chilly going out in that cold...

Lindie: Sorry about the fall. I hope you feel better asap - or sooner.

Irene C: I always feel like I'm missing a limb when I'm without an appliance. I don't know if that's because I really do use them that often or if it's just because I know I suddenly can't. I hope your washer arrives sooner than 3 weeks.

Alicia: I'd scold you about over-stressing your arm ... but I do exactly the same kind of thing so instead I'll just send you some emoticon

Sara, AJ, Alicia, Valerie, Irene (BC), Stephanie - and anyone I've missed. Happy New Year!

Our NY eve was a bit different than usual. We had our 7-year-old grandson ... and spent most of the evening watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ... how about that for exciting? emoticon Well, it was interesting - watching the world from the perspective of a y-r-old boy is *ahem* different.

We have to be out the door early tomorrow; Mr. TB has a dental appointment in a city about 2 1/2 hours away *yawn* so I'd better scramble. But I did want to stop by and say hello and Happy New Year.

emoticon of the start of 2014...hope everyone is enjoying this first day of the new year.....after last night celebrations at my ds house today has been a quiet day for us.....no cooking, cleaning or watching gk's.....

Lindie hope you are doing well with your sprained ankle and taking it easy....

Irene C hope you get your washer and dryer soon...my dd and sil are building a new house and called Union Gas in Nov to get the gas hooked up for the furnace..the earliest date they could do it was Jan 15/14.... seems like when you are at others mercy things can be so inconvenient.....

Alicia hope your arm is feeling better and thanks I am enjoying my time off.....tomorrow I don't plan on doing much.....just helping my dh shovel the light layer of snow in our driveway....I can use the exercise after the mega meals I've had lately.....

Val I took my Christmas decorations down Dec 26...I love putting them up but I'm even happier when I can take them down and box them away for another year......

AJ...I made a huge veggie tray too...this way every time I go into the frig its the first thing I see instead of reaching for the things I should not be eating.....

Irene BC what a great Scottish custom of opening the front door for the new year to come in and opening the back door for the old year to leave.....I feel so very blessed that we are usually with my 3 children, their spouses and all my gk's, along with my 92 year old mom on those special days.....but I know eventually we may not be altogether some day......

Sara hope you and your dh are feeling better and no cold has settled in.....

To everyone have a prosperous and healthy New Year and hope its the best one yet!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! emoticon

We had a quiet new year's too. But we did follow the new year's tradition we started years ago - no matter where we are in the world (and one year, ages ago it was Barbados) we phone our parents and children (now that they are grown) and wish them happy new year. So it was at 9pm our time for my Ontario parents (yes, they do stay up, and do a Scottish custom - open the back door to let the old year out, and open the front door to let the new year in). And 11 pm (midnight their time) our Calgary son called, and then midnight our time, local son.

I guess what makes me happiest is that our sons are continuing in this family tradition. :-)

The bittersweet part this year was that we didn't get to call dh's mother - as she passed away this year. When it's a tradition like that, you really notice it.

Anyway, I wish good health to all those with injuries, and weather warning limbs and colds.

We have a whole new year ahead of us - let us make the very best of it!

Happy New Year to All! emoticon emoticon emoticon Quiet evening for me --- games with family while we listened to the Country Music Countdown - Canadian version. This morning starting slow - just put ham & potatoes in slow cooker for the potluck dinner this afternoon. I also made up a huge veggie tray so I CAN have healthy choices if I want to! Got to get that will-power to kick in.

So sorry to hear of all the ill health, folks. Colds, falls, sprains, strains ... hopefully that means we can only get better this year! My knee had seemed better but has been quite painful again since yesterday ... maybe rheumatism because of the cold weather. ? I feel like an old farmer - I can predict the weather from my aches and pains! emoticon

Take care, everyone - and here is wishing happiness, health, and goal success to all for the New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!

We didn't do much last night either. We like to spend it with our family and have done it that way for years. We were in bed by 10:30 so we were all sleeping when the new year came around. I got up early this morning because I want to be able to get to sleep early tonight as I start work again tomorrow. I don't know - I'm so tired right now I just may go back to bed for a bit...

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy new year...

We didn't either Sara, seems we finished up the year with a touch of a cold too. Today the decorations come down and get put away. We watch the Rose Bowl Parade and Mom is coming for supper. So nice family day with a start to the first habit I am doing away with for 2014.

Have a great day!

Well here it is the new year, and have already been on Sp for an hour. Read some motivational articles as to how to be more Positive in my thinking when things don't go as planned, or when I mess up and eat the wrong thing. (don't know how to add the link, sorry). It was the Mind over Body series - and I've saved it to my favorites and will be looking more closely at it when I am able to concentrate more on what I'm reading.

We did not do anything special last night, we were suppose to go to a New years eve party, but we both felt like crap. Me a cough, him the sniffles. So we opted to stay home and bring in the new year by ourselves - resting!!

Hoping to spend some time today with my dad, and probably will go see the grandkids at some point as well.

Wishing you all a good & prosperous New Year -

Stay Positive, Stay Active, Stay Healthy!!

Thank you Irene from BC and Valerie - no to the crutches, but do have to elevate and ice - and still need to walk so that the muscles can get back to normal - so less then 5000 steps today and yesterday but that's the way it goes sometimes.

I'll be spending the evening with a good author - Maeve Binchy !! Can't complain about that at all and I did get take out for dinner for me and Gene when he gets home from work.

Cheers all emoticon

Just popping in to wish all of you lovely ladies the very best for the end of this year, and a very very good 2014 - for all of us!

But Lindie - so sorry to hear that you ended the year with a fall! Enforced downtime - not so good - but I am sure that you will make good use of the time.

Wishing you all the best for the new year - and quick recovery from injuries for all injured parties here - and a new year of good and healthy habits for all of us!

Morning ladies. I slept in again - the last day I think. I thought I'd better get up early tomorrow so I'll be able to sleep tomorrow evening...

I took down all our Christmas decorations this morning. I have my house back!! It feels good...

Lindie - you're supposed to be enjoying yourself on your vacation - not hurting yourself. LOL I sure hope your ankle feels better quickly. Do you have crutches? Will you need them, do you think? I know when Evan sprained his ankle (both of them a few times each!), he had to use crutches. He still has issues with his ankles...

Alicia, I did something with my arm while on holidays in September and it's only just now started to feel pretty good. That's 3 1/2 months! Please do not overdo it for about a month after your arm feels better - just to make sure it's healed...

Irene C - we have a laundromat quite near us in our section of town so when my washer was down, I took my clothes there to wash them. I didn't like doing it, though because I didn't know what people put into them. Sorry to hear you have to wait that long to get a new one.

So - dishes are done, decorations are down, laundry is finished, I guess all I have left to do is vacuum and sweep the floors and a general cleaning. Nothing like starting the new year with a clean (sort of) house.

Have a great New years Eve, ladies. Talk with you all tomorrow.

Happy New Year's everyone - emoticon emoticon emoticon

I will be celebrating with down time - I am out of commission for the time being for cardio - I fell down some stairs yesterday and have badly sprained my ankle and the tendon that runs from the ankle to the knee on the outter side of the calf - so ice and Advil !! LUCKY ME but really it could have been so much worse the way the fall started and ended ! Neighbours heard me fall and asked if I was ok, I said no, please get Gene, he happened to be home and got to use his new first aid training LOL

So grounded as I am I can still do some strength training and what not.

Alicia, do rest that injury - and try a little more protein and less carb for the next few days that will help the muscles and the tendons.

Irene C - I think we all need a spiritual tune up now and then, it just depends where and how we get it and if it was what we needed. I think I need one too !! Too bad about that new washer, how's the snow your way? I've seen some pics of Winterpeg snow that Valerie has !

Valerie, how is that basement coming along? I was doing laundry yesterday as well !

AJ glad you got all your decos put away before anymore nasty weather headed your way.

Sarah how was the first night back to work?

Stephanie, any plans for your days off? Mine are changed now I was going to the movies today but that's out, maybe Friday instead .. we will see how the ankle goes...

Irene in BC - how was work for you? the milder temps and weather works just fine for me, how bout you ?

I am not sure how I am celebrating bringing in the New Year - maybe with a movie or a good book or just playing on the internet LOL May you all have a safe, healthy and fun new years !!

Good Morning Everyone emoticon

I am up early as I didn't take any painkillers last night and my left arm was really bothering me as well as my left hand. I must have over done still yesterday. Need to keep ice on it today. Anyway, plans for today are pretty quiet so that should help a lot. Snow once more here so the ground is covered once more.

Stephanie - Enjoy your three days off

Valerie - you will be surprised at what you end up wanting to do after you retire. I thought I would do all these different things and once I was there - not so much. Enjoy your days off too.

AJ - Probably a smart idea with the decorations, Being in an apartment most of the things are on the inside so we can wait for our usual emoticon

Sara - sounds like a really lovely day. I use to love to bowl, maybe it is time to get back into it in this new area.

Lindie - Hope you enjoy your day of reflection

Irene - Wishing you a lovely short day today.

Irene C - painkillers and ice are about the best I can do right now, that and not using the arm too much while it heals. My silliness right now is just as it starts to feel better I do too much and I am back where I started. emoticon That is a long time before delivery. Hope there is someplace you can take your things for now.

Have a lovely last day of 2013! emoticon
Hugs

What a lot of nice dishes being served on New Year's Eve.

Who doesn't enjoy food? As long as, we try to be reasonable in choices, we'll be ok. It is a constant balancing act.. if I have this.....then I shouldn't have that.

AJ, Sometimes, we have to just go for it and get the job done. It does feel good to be ahead of the game. I'm sure, everything is in it's proper place now that the decoration are ALL put away. Thank you for being so personable by acknowledging me in all of your greeting.

Alicia, Sorry to hear that your arm is giving you a problem. Is it feeling any better? What was most helpful for your comfort? You mentioned how, you need to take better care of yourself and exercise is one way to do it. I know I need it, my body is telling me and I better pay heed. I hope we can be an encourage for one another.

Lindie, you were talking about changing. I really think that my spiritually needs a tune- up. It seems to have gotten away from me and I need to find my way back.

Lastly,I had to buy a new washer yesterday and it will not be delivered until Jan 18. What a long time with out a washer. I wash something almost everyday.

I've been sleeping in too - got up at 7:30 am instead of 5:30 am and I forgot to turn off my alarm and it went off, I just turned it off and went back to sleep.

I was thinking, Valerie, that maybe that Big Bang theory board game would be a good one for new years eve and maybe get the boys off the computer for a while - I know my son says I spend too much time on mine so I am trying to change that up with having a good book night once a week, no one here to do board games with or I'd have a board game night.. just a thought anyway.

Hope everyone is doing well today.

The new year is a time to rethink your journey, look at what worked, what did not, why it didn't where it can be improved and if you really want to be committed to that change because to make change, you have to really really want it .. badly ... I'll be looking long and hard at mine, I know I am at 200 lbs now and need to get down to something healthier ...

Slept in this morning, it was wonderful - hubby is home from work so it was nice just to lie and cuddle for a bit before having to get up and start our day.
Made breakfast together, did some shopping, watched some of the Canada Cup game - now waiting for family to go bowling (in a league and with my knee surgery coming up, I need to bowl off a few games)
Working tonight too, so will be back to bed early evening.

Happy New Year to everyone

Hello Everyone. Nice to hear about everyone's New Years plans. We do it quietly -- family time with games and snacks then a potluck on New Years day. I took advantage of the mild day yesterday and took down all my outside decorations and laid them out in the basement to dry. Then I kept on going and finished the job inside too. Today I packed it all away. Got to admit it feels good to have that done. It is a little early but they are talking major cold and more snow so I wanted the outside, at least, done before that happened.

Have a great day everyone ... AJ

Morning, ladies. Boy - I'm really getting late coming here. I've actually been sleeping in - and getting about 9 hours of sleep every night! I must need it or something...As for the basement, I worked on it one day for about an hour and I'll work on it again today while I do laundry. I usually do laundry on Sundays but I just didn't feel like it yesterday, so I have to do it today...

Stephanie - I'd like to retire in 5 years, but not completely. I think I'd like to work for maybe 3 days a week - just to have something to do. I know I could volunteer - but I'm not sure what I would want to do. My dh doesn't think he'll retire for another 10-12 years!
I noticed that you seem to have a lot of birthdays around this time of year. I guess I'm lucky in that ours are spread out throughout the year. Enjoy them.

When we were younger, we would play a lot of board games and cards. I loved it and really miss it. Now, the kids just want to play on their computers. Not much interaction with people at all...

For New Years Eve, we have an early, light supper and then just have some snacks and enjoy the time together. I'll cook up some pot stickers and have shrimp with cocktail sauce. sometimes I also make a taco dip with tortilla chips. hmmm... I'll have to think about that one... we all really like it.

Well, must go get my day started. Have a good Monday, ladies. Enjoy the last couple of days of 2013...

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Always be yourself, because the people that matter, don't mind, and the one's that do mind don't matter.

Morning ladies....I'm at work today, but off the next three days......looking forward to that!

Val good luck with your basement renovations.....it will all be worth it when its done, I'm sure......I can't wait for my dd and her family to move out of mine...(they are building a new home and hope to be in it within the next couple of months) that's when I'll tackle my basement project.....

Lindie....I know what you mean about retirement...we are meeting with our financial planner in Jan to see when I can retire....with my dh being there already its getting harder and harder leaving him in bed the 3 days a week I work......

Irene BC thanks for always coming up with new ideas for healthy habits.....still thinking about something I can incorporate and start in the new year......

Irene C...we go to my ds home for New Year's Eve to celebrate New Year's (he lives 5 minutes from us) and my gd's birthday....this year she will be 9 years old......always enjoy the pot luck everyone brings and having family around......

Alicia hope your arm is getting better...and I know what you mean about taking better care of our bodies....now that I'm in my 60's exercising has become a must......

AJ...that game Anomia sounds like fun....we have all ages at my ds house on New Year's Eve so we play cards, that way everyone from my 92 year old mom to my 8 year old gd's can join in.....its always a lot of fun......

Pat hope you had a nice Christmas and that you have a wonderful New Year's.....

To all hope you have a great Mon and take care...2014 is almost here!

Good Morning Everyone emoticon

We haven't been very busy here due to the arm stuff. Just when it feels a bit better I do more than I should and bang - it's back again. Honestly, I have got to take better care of my body before it falls apart too soon. emoticon

Lindie - That is a great idea and yup I will look into that. I am sure there could be a lot of improvements. Oh, sleeping in when you retire. I was doing that but Tigger came into our lives and she doesn't let it go on too long - LOL emoticon

Valerie - enjoy your days and don't work too hard on the basement. I am sure it still is looking really good from what I remember earlier in the year.

Pat (TB) - I bet Red looks really sharp. In our area I often pass farms where the horses are all wearing their coats. None though have a royal blue one. I know what you mean about the quilts, I have a friend that makes them too and the cost and labour is just too much and she said once that if she started to sell them then it would no longer be a labour of love but a chore. Did you ever see the children's book about Momma's New Job, it has her quilts on the cover emoticon

Sara - I have a recipe for a black bean vegan brownie if you ever want to give it a try. Although I am no longer vegan.

AJ - I know what you mean, heck I finally make it to retirement and now these little things. Although one lady I know tells me that after 50 exercise is no longer for vanity of any kind but a necessity. I can't keep fudging it and I am learning this slowly. I swear when it comes to taking care of me - I am a real slow learner.

Irene - Me too, I am looking to that changing a habit a month, first one is eating between meals. Since retirement it is really easy to keep stuffing my face while doing anything and it has become a really, really out of control habit. So, it is my first change of habit.

Irene C - Our New Year's Eve is usually pretty quiet, we go to the evening mass but that is it. New Year's day is different, We traditionally watch the Rose Bowl Parade while putting away all the Christmas decorations and clean things up from the holiday, then a meal of my lasagne and coconut cream pie. Since I make it the dinner is a lot lower in fat and the like.

So much fun catching up on everyone's days. Have a wonderful Monday.
Hugs

Alicia

It would take some time to catch up so I thank you Irene for giving the Reader's Digest version so I could see at a glance... what is going on with everyone. It is so nice to see so much conversation and great to have some new gals.

I'm with you Irene, healthy habits is the way to go. I plan to buckle down and lose this last chunk of weight. A life coach guru said.. A goal with out a time line is a dream. So I am setting a time line for my next goal.

What is everyone up to for New Year's Eve. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I haven't gone out in years, maybe decades. We are having ribs, fries, cold slaw and lemon meringue pie. It a diner's theme. It use to be Chinese food but I swore it off a couple of months ago.......too salty and the oil in it!

Wow, busy on this team lately! Good to see.

Anyway, i was back to work today, and now have just had dinner. It is very mild out here - which I am NOT complaining about - just very grateful.

Lindie - so did you do the lasagna? I have often thought of trying spaghetti squash - but still haven't tried it yet.

AJ, it sounds like you had a great time with your sister and all those grands. :-) But i agree, much as you enjoy that, nice to get back home too.

Val, way to go tackiing that basement again - a great way to start off your new year, before it has even started!

So Sara, how did your second Christmas dinner go today? Interesting how different the gluten free makes it.

Pat, those quilts really are a treasure - beautiful to look at, and so much care and love sewn in them.

Alicia, glad to hear that your arms/hands are getting better. Maybe Lindie's ergonomic suggestions are worth thinking about.

Stephanie - way to go on not gaining weight! Hats off to you. You are obviously making very good choices.

Sara how did that 35 people gathering go?

Hi to anyone else I might have missed.

As for me, I am orienting myself towards the new year already. I am looking forward to my healthiest habits year yet!

Irene in BC

Renewed determination. I WILL do this!

Morning everyone, up a little late this morning, so I know I will so look forward to sleeping longer when retired ! ONLY 5 more years to go !

Hope everyone is having a good day of it - Valerie, your meal sounds yummy infact I can smell the aroma already !!

Not sure what I am having, but I do want to make a lasagna caserol with spagetti squash as I am not a fan of pasta -- I picked up a maggie yesterday that is for Diabetics and low carb - boy their idea of low carb is not my idea but there are some good recipes I can use as a base for my own foods.

Valerie, good going on that basement, I know when its done you will be able to relax, how's the new Dance game? Are you moving and grooving ? lol

Sarah - that is what happens in my family, my grand son likes my daughter more then me but he's interacted with her more then me ... oh well life is what it is, glad you enjoyed your big meal, no big meals here though.

Good Morning Everyone! I am home again after spending most of Christmas week at my sister's. It was great to see everyone and spend time with my five greats - playing with their lego friends sets! - and board games with the older kids. I have to admit it is nice to get home and back to routine though. As Lindie mentioned, it is nice to have some time for reflection and planning for the New Year.

Alicia - Glad to hear your arm is better. I sympathize. I have ended up with tendonitis in my elbows - apparently due to the doorknob exerciser I have been using. It is not terrible but makes carrying anything quite painful. Even worse, I don't want to stop doing those exercises because I think they were really helping. Always something, isn't it?!
Stephanie - Sounds like your Christmas was very, very busy. No wonder you didn't gain any weight this week; being hostess is hard work. I wish we were closer so we could be walking buddies too. I do love to be outside and I'd haul you along! emoticon
Lindie - How nice to have some vacation time. Enjoy!
Sara - Have fun with your resistance bands and pilates ball. Adding something new to our routine really kicks up the interest and energy again, doesn't it? Sounds like you are really getting the hang of the gluten free stuff. Like any cooking, it always takes some trial and error and some tinkering to get it just right! Ah, homemade turkey soup - nothing better! I like a bit of pasta in mine and there are really good gluten free options for that.
Val - Anomia is a card game that involves matching symbols and then trying to spit out a word for a suddenly revealed category. Sounds simple but in a face-off situation, the brain stumbles! It was a lot of fun. I'm glad you had a good visit with your mom. Precious times. Good luck with the basement work. I have some of that to tackle too but my first effort is going to be sorting through old Christmas decorations and keeping only what I use!
Pat - I was just admiring your quilts. Absolutely gorgeous. My sister is a quilt maker so I understand the time and effort - and money - that goes into them. She also only gives them as gifts for the same reasons that you do. Glad you managed some 'horse time'. My niece is a horse lover and finding time with her horse is way up there on her 'to do' list.
Irene in BC - So sorry to hear of your Dil's loss of her friend. Even when its expected, it is hard. Glad you got those gifts wrapped in time! And hope the rest of your celebrations go well.
And to Irene C, Alyssa, and all others reading this that I've missed --- have a great weekend!

Morning, ladies.
Pat, those quilts you made are awesome! But from experience, I know that they cost a lot in money as well as in time, so I totally understand you only doing them for those you care about and who will appreciate them.

Sara - way to go on the snacks for your gd. I'm so glad she is enjoying those treats, and like you said, she just may like the brownies if she sees auntie eating them. Kids will be kids, won't they? emoticon
We have lots of turkey left over as well - and I only had a 9 pound bird. I'll be putting some of it in a white sauce and having it with spaghetti noodles for supper tonight (the kids like that), so I'll be able to use up some of it at least.

Yesterday, I started tackling that basement again. I WILL get it done - I just don't know when. LOL It's amazing how much space I have cleaned out, though, in just an hour. I think I'll work on it again today while I do the laundry.

Have a great day, everyone.

One family Christmas down, one to go!!
Great day yesterday. Turkey turned out really good, boy it was a big bird. Have enough left over to make some soup this week. My gd liked the mini banana muffins with the choc. chip sprinkled on top, said she didn't like the brownie, but I thought they were fairly good. Maybe today will be a different story - going to be with family who eat gluten free a lot - 2 of them are celiac, so if she sees Auntie Shannon eating them, she might have a different story today. (she loves her great aunt - sometimes I think more than Nanna, lol)

Have a good Sunday everyone!

Lindie: Thanks - I'm glad you liked the quilts. After staring at them for months on end I'm never sure if they're actually any good or if I just think that because I'm so glad to see the end of them - truth!

I'm flattered that you compared them to the Amish quilts; those are the gold standard for quilters.

I don't sell my stuff - mainly because I know the amount of money and time invested and understand that I'd be lucky if I recovered costs, never mind even minimum value for time spent. If you look at the log cabin quilt (DS's) - I paid well over $200 for fabric alone - I have no idea how much time I spent piecing the top (months) but I do know that it took me over 4 months to quilt it. That was working at least 4 hours every day; I'm not exaggerating. And I started it almost two years ago.

So ... I give my quilts as gifts of love and only to people who understand and appreciate that.

I didn't make Red's cooler (that's a blanket specifically designed to wick sweat out of a horse's heavy winter coat and reduces drying time from 3-4 hours to around 30 minutes). I could, if I had access to the fabric and a heavy duty, industrial machine - but they cost thousands of dollars - it's just easier to cough up the cash to buy a cooler. And he does, indeed, look awesome in royal blue emoticon

And did you make Red's blanket or did you aquire it elseways? I bet he just looks like a Prince in it anyway !!

I just got back from visiting Red. He looks very snazzy in his new cooler. We didn't do enough hard work to warrant wearing it today but it's warm for this time of year (temp hovering just over the freezing mark) and I wanted to get all the straps and buckles adjusted before it turns cold again and I freeze my fingers off. We're supposed to get one more day like this and then it's back into the deep freeze emoticon

Afternoon, everyone. I'm on here a little late, but then, I've been trying to stay away from the computer. I'm on it just a little too much.

Alicia, I'm glad to hear that your arms are doing better.

Thanks, Lindie. Yes, their ribs are pretty good, but I decided to have the shrimp. It was a lower calorie meal and really tasted pretty good. Of course, Evan was jealous of me having shrimp (it's his most favorite meal.)
Enjoy your holidays! I go back to work on the 2nd, so I still have a few days...

Hope everyone is having a great holiday season. I want to go get busy and actually work in that basement again. (It never did get finished, and I'm sure there is more there now then there was when I stopped working in it earlier this year. LOL) Talk with you all later.

Alicia, if you go to the WCB site for your province and look up ergonomic work station, you might be able to find relief there for what ails you and allow you the time you need to work on your computer hobbies - part of the problem at home is our computer work stations are not giving our bodies the support they need - my chair has no arms and my arms get tired mousing all the time - but at work I have a proper chair and my arm does not get tired. Its worth a try anyway. I know you like to do your children stories and what not so maybe this can help?

Hi Everyone -

Just wanted to do a little check in, although my DH is keeping an eye that I don't stay on too long emoticon

The right arm is nearly all better and the left hand is good, left shoulder the range of motion is limited at the moment but a bit better.

I am reading everyone's posts and keeping up with everyone but I will wait a bit for saying little comments yet.

Hugs to all - have a lovely weekend.

Hi, ladies.
We met our friends for lunch today, but we didn't go to The Keg - we went to Applebee's instead because our friends wanted to stop by the mall and do a little shopping before lunch. Then after lunch, we went to see The Hobbit 2 - great movie, wasn't it, Irene? But boy, did it ever end differently! (I won't say how because others might want to go see it and I don't want to spoil it for them.)

Sounds like everyone is having a good time during this holiday season. But sorry to hear about your DIL's friend. That's always hard, no matter how much it's expected...

Well, I had better go. I want to relax for a bit and then I need to get some dishes washed. Have a great evening, ladies.

Well at work today and its sunny and warm today 36f (2c) and tomorrow 40f (4c)....so very glad I did not gain weight this week, with big meals 3 days in a row I was certain it was going to show on the scale, but maybe the better choices I made this time were my saving grace......

Irene BC so very sad about your DIL friend passing away on Christmas....and enjoy your lazy day...with working, your cold and having your kitchen renovated you deserve a nice restful day....

Val enjoy your dinner at the Keg.... this year my boss gave us gift certificates for The Keg...one of my favorite places to eat....

Pat looking forward to the pictures of the quilts you made for your children...they are always works of art....

AJ....wish you lived closer to my area...your motivation to walking is great...I need someone like you to motivate me to get outdoors....

Sara enjoy your large family gatherings....they sound like fun.....

Lindie...yes Barbie was the hit of my 3 year old GD's Birthday Party.....and one of my New Years Resolutions will be to loose these pesky last few pounds I seem to volley back and forth with all year long......

Alicia hope your arm and hand are better.....

Lynette hope you had a nice Christmas holiday with your family.....

Take care all.....and have a great weekend..... emoticon emoticon

Good day to everyone. emoticon I've been reading about everyone's Christmases - lovely to hear, but my, that was a lot of reading. So I won't be doing individual comments to each of you, but a big hi, and I did love reading your posts.

As for me, the last few days have been busy -most of the time at our DSs and DILs, but we are having our turkey dinner tonight! I worked Christmas eve til 2pm, and that evening we went to a Christmas eve service at our church, and our big, and lovely, surprise was that our DS and family turned up at it (they don't usually) and that was really wonderful. Christmas day at DS - that was present day, but not turkey day, as his older stepsons had dinner with their father. We all had steak and baked potatoes. :-) It's BC - you can bbq on Christmas Day.

Yesterday was going to be turkey day, but DIL was awakened with the news of the death of a good friend of hers - an older family friend who was like an uncle to her - on Christmas Day. She didn't know if she would be at the widow;s place that night or not, so turkey dinner was prosponed to today, but we still were there most of the day, and went out to see Hobbit 2 with DS and kids.

Today we will be going over there tonight for that turkey dinner. As my DIL said, this has been a really extended Christmas. Really hard though for their friend - to have her husband pass away on Christmas day. It was not totally unexpected, as he has been ill for quite some time, but still, not great timing for his family. But it happens.

Anyway, I am having a lazy day today. I guess the last few days have been lazy for me, but til we go out tonight, it is a lazy at home day today. And yes, Val, i did get those presents wrapped in time!

Have a good day everyone.

Irene in BC

Renewed determination. I WILL do this!

still baking!! one of the items didn't turn out, so will have to tweak it a bit to get it just right, but not today - lol
turkey is thawed and ready to be cooked, not stuffing it, going to make it and cook it separately. Even bought Cranberry sauce to go with it. Tomorrow I'll make the gravy, then off to the farm for a great big family gathering. Should be @ 35 of us there. But not all adults, and the great grandkids don't eat much, so not really counted in the food numbers. Should be a busy fun day.
Sunday will be another busy fun day, but not as many people. Thank goodness!! lol
Well must keep going!! Have a great wknd. Might not have time to stop by and post, but will try to get a chance to at least read your posts.

Morning, ladies. Well, Christmas is over for another year - only 363 days to go until the next one. LOL

Pat, I can hardly wait to see your quilts. I dropped by your page and saw some of the ones you`ve done in the past - you do such beautiful work!

Today we`re going to The Keg for lunch with our friends as they are going home right after lunch. It`s the only time we get to see them before they leave. We don`t get to see her that often and I really miss her - we`ve been bffs since 1976! That`s a really long time...

Good morning all:

It sounds like everybody had a good Christmas.

Alicia: Have you tried an ergonomic keyboard? I used to have those issues when I worked and found that the keyboard was a huge help. It took some getting used to, though.

We had an unexpected visit with friends on Christmas Eve; that was nice. Christmas Day was pretty quiet as DS and DIL spent the day at their own place and came here yesterday. It was so much fun to watch Li'l G; he's still at an age where everything is wonderful and so, so exciting.

I gave DS and DIL their quilt and they loved it. I'll post a blog with pics - I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Li'l G is coming back to spend New Years with us. That will be a first ... although I'm sure he will be sound asleep long before 2014 arrives. We probably will be too emoticon

I will be going to the stable today - finally! I haven't gone for over a week; it has been too cold and we've been too busy so I'm looking forward to it.

emoticon to Stephanie, Lindie, Valerie, Irene(s), AJ, Alyssa, Sara and anyone I may have missed.

Evening, ladies. Looks like you all had a great Christmas with your families and friends - well, except for Alicia - You really do have to learn to watch what you're doing, my dear! Hope it feels better quickly.

Lots of food and drink seems to be the theme here - I cooked a nice turkey dinner with all the trimmings. I even made a lemon meringue pie for dessert, but we haven't even touched it yet. We were all too full.

AJ, I've never heard of Anomonie. What kind of game is that?

Lindie - I LOVE Big Bang. Bazinga would be a great game to play. And at $60 to renew a license, I'd think twice about it too! It's only $35 for me here in MB.

Stephanie, hope you're enjoying playing Barbie. I haven't played with dolls in many a year. Never did have a Barbie doll. My doll was a Kelly doll that I bought from Corn Flakes (the only time I ever ate that cereal - I don't like it. LOL)

Sara, you sure seem to be enjoying baking all those gluten free treats. Hope they taste as good as they sound.

Today, my dh and I decided to make a quick trip out to Brandon to visit Mom. I'm glad we did because there are weather warnings out for this weekend. She looked really good! It was such a nice visit. We also saw my sister and her dd and sil, who live in Toronto. So it was a really good decision to go today.

I don't think I over ate a lot, but I sure hope I didn't eat too much this week. I suspect that I won't have lost any weight but I don't think I will have gained, either... Santa got me a new electronic bathroom scale, so now I'll be able to weigh-in with more accuracy now...Maybe that's not such a good idea... hmmm...Anyway, he also got me Just Dance 2014 for my Wii. Some of the songs on there are really good, so I can hardly wait to try them out...

We're going for lunch tomorrow with our best friends from Killarney at the Keg. They are in town visiting their daughters and her family, so we'll see them then on their way out of town.

Well, I must go do something before bedtime. Have a great evening, ladies. Talk with you all in the morning...

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

been a quiet day, which is OK. Slept the morning, watched some tv movies this afternoon while baking some Gluten, Dairy, Sugar, Soya Free mini banana cupcakes. Trying to put a plate together for my gd so she can enjoy some sweets this wknd at the family Christmas gatherings that we have. Tomorrow going to cook the huge turkey (19kg) then slice it up and have it ready for re-heating on Saturday at my inlaws farm. #1 family party - also need to do some more baking for Zoe. Then Sunday it is my families Christmas and we are not having the usual turkey dinner, going with appetizers, chili, meatballs, salads, and desserts. so need to take a plate of goodies that day too. My sister and niece are also gluten free, so making these treats will benefit them as well. They are not your usual Christmas baking, just doing bite size muffins, brownies, cookies. Just something so Zoe can enjoy every aspect of the meal.
Hope you are all staying active, and enjoying this fresh falling snow (if it is falling in your area). Received some resistance bands and a 7" Pilates ball in my stocking, so looking forward to putting them to good use along with my dumbbells & medicine ball I already use. Hoping to get my hubby involved in some of these exercises too.

Take care everyone - emoticon

Good Afternoon Ladies. Gorgeous day here today and thanks to a light snowfall I got quite a bit of exercise. I'm still at my sister's and my bil hurt his back so was happy to hand over the shovelling detail. Plus they have a big property, numerous sheds and paths everywhere! The snow was light and fluffy and I went over everything twice. Then we went for a 2 mile walk also so I feel much better about the very generous eating I did yesterday. Another big meal on the go for this evening.
Lindie - that game sound like a good idea. I'll have to remember that. Like you, I avoid crowds so no shopping for me today either. In fact, I'd be happy to avoid stores till Easter!
Alicia - hope your arm is better soon. How nice to have such a special time with your Mom.
Stephanie - Sounds like you had good times with family and friends and that is what is most important. You are clearly still thinking and caring about your health goals and that will get you back on track after the special Christmastime season. The Barbie party should be fun and I'll bet your gd will be thrilled to bits. Enjoy!
Sara, Irene in BC, Irene C, Alyssa, Pat ... and all others on thread ... Have a great day!

BAZINGA !!!! the kids in Winterpeg was playing that on Xmas Eve and evidently its a lot of fun, so maybe a pressie in the makings for someone for next year? Any BIG BANG THEORY fans out there? Its a trivia game and very hard I understand LOL BAZINGA !!!

Ha a lovely quiet time and same today, no boxing day sales for me I DISLIKE CROWDS !!

Alicia, I have a stress ball that I use when I strain things from computers and here's a hint to help you post on all your times, just type up a generic message and then copy and past, will help that hand eh !

Stephanie, dont' sweat the small stuff, enjoy the season, it only comes once a year, make note for next year on how you would do things different, and BARBIE away !!!

Sarah, glad you had a good time with family, my son worked so I spent most of the time alone. Worked ok for me as I am back to work tomorrow and then off all next week.

Debating not renewing my license, I do not drive anymore, do not anticipate driving and figure I might as well surrender it for BC ID instead... 60.00 to renew !

Good Morning Everyone -

It was a lovely Christmas with my Mom. She very much enjoyed dinner here and we took her home with a load of leftovers so she is very happy. I did a bit too much and have strained my right arm (mouse clicking one) and pulled my thumb on the left hand and really wrenched the left hand too so I am just doing one stop on the computer this morning and that's it for me. I really have to learn not to over do on the computer.

Have a wonderful Boxing Day. emoticon

Good Morning Everyone! Have had a busy day with family and friends and just now getting a moment to say hello to all here. Hope you all had a safe and happy Christmas. We are having more family get-togethers today too. Played games with the nieces and nephews this evening -- a new one called Anomonie. Lots of fun and laughs.

Take care everyone. If you are travelling - be safe.

Has been a wonderful days celebrating Christmas with my kids and grandkids. But this fun must come to an end as I work tonight and need some sleep.

Will be having 2 more family Christmas celebrations this wknd, that is when those extra lbs might show up. Going to try real hard not to overeat, but still enjoy the food that will be served.

So Merry Christmas to everyone, and enjoy family time this week.

emoticon haha, a few good chuckles in here, we are a pretty jolly crew, aren't we?
Sounds like that ice is wreaking havoc where it is, sure glad that isn't an issue here. It was actually around zero today. Keep warm and safe, if it is affecting you where you are!
J is baking up a storm and A and T are at his sister's this evening so I've been wrapping up a few more things and tidying. The pantry was chaotic so I tackled that and sure made a difference. J and I had a meal of nibbles to eat up some of the dribs and dabs we found!
My bro got his driver's license back so he was by this aft to pick up his IV meds that J picked up while she was out for lunch with her new "friend". She seems to be doing ok after her break-up with the long-term bf.
Off to church soon, to a church where I should know some folks from the days when I lived in Edmonton. Candlelight Christmas Eve is an important tradition, no matter where I find myself on December 24th.
Merry Christmas everyone! emoticon

Merry Christmas to all our members, and to our members without hydro or heat, stay safe, and find a safe way to stay warm ... unfortunate weather here in Canada and really weird temps south of us in USA ...

Update on the funds found - it turns out someone did loose it and must claim it from the Police Department, turns out they lost their rent monies ( not sure from an APT building, ie manager ) so I don't expect to hear any more of it, glad it ended well for them.

Merry Christmas gang:

Did I read right or was I hallucinating ... ladies talking about rain and just enough snow to cover the grass?!? emoticon All the rain and ice passed about 50 miles south of us; we did get some freezing rain and lots of snow. We have as much now as we did all last winter ... enough!!!

Stephanie: As you know, my sister lives near you and she agreed with you - she was glad it wasn't going to be a green Christmas. I was NOT sympathetic until she talked about her paddocks turning to mud. Okay - maybe snow isn't so bad.

Alicia: Are you sure you don't want to move back to Ottawa? You'd have a white Christmas for sure.

Irene (BC): Very belated happy birthday.

For AJ, Sara, Lindie, Valerie emoticon I have been reading but haven't had a chance to respond. Our grandson came to visit last Thursday, woke up in the middle of the night with a high fever and was really sick for the next two days. He was supposed to go home on Sunday but the road conditions were horrid so he ended up staying here until yesterday. Today we've been scrambling to get gifts wrapped (yup - I'm a late wrapper too), cages cleaned and things half-way organized for tomorrow.

DS, DIL and Li'l G are coming to visit on Boxing Day so tomorrow will be just me, Mr. TB and the critters. I hope to get to the stable on the 27th. By then the temps should be back up into the tolerable range.

Merry, merry Christmas to you all and may your next 'tour of the sun' be the best yet.

well we wanted a White Christmas, and we got one, just too bad it includes a lot of ice, and power shortages. Many people still without power, and the storm has moved out east and they are having the same issues - No Power. Praying this power issue will bring many families closer together (in a nice way) and make them stronger for it. And if you have friends who don't have power, pls open your home to them. There are many seniors who are stubborn and won't leave their homes, pls offer them shelter and warmth if needed. My son said that him and his buddy had 10 extra people (on the floor in sleeping bags) because they had no power in their homes. So proud of him for offering shelter for these friends.

Take Care everyone!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Morning, ladies. Happy Christmas Eve!

Irene! I am so sorry I forgot! A belated VERY happy Birthday. Hope it was a good one. Are you feeling better?

Alicia, I tried to get my cousins in England to open a Skype account, but he wouldn't. I guess I should be lucky he has an e-mail account and is on Facebook. But I would prefer Skype - it makes you feel more like you're talking directly with the person and you don't miss them as much... At least, it sure helped for me to talk with my family while I was overseas...
What a busy day you're looking at tomorrow, Alicia. Enjoy your visit with your Mom. I think we'll be going to see mine towards the end of the week.

AJ - the shortbread is so-o-o good! I found the recipe on the Internet. The lady who posted it said that she uses 1/2 butter and 1/2 margarine and she whips it for no less than 6 minutes. It turned out really well. You can come get some if you'd like to. emoticon

I think I'm like a few others on here - I also don't have my gifts wrapped but I did start this morning after my dh before my sons got up. They are all boxed now and just need to be wrapped, so I have no worries about anyone coming in while I'm doing it. LOL

Well, I must get moving and get things done around here. Have a great day, ladies.

Good Christmas Eve Morning Ladies! I'm determined to keep to my routine as much as possible this week and that includes checking in on Sparks. How nice that there is a little snow in your area Alicia. A 'frosting' is nice for Christmas. Good luck with your timing tomorrow - I'm sure it will all work out as you plan. And have fun connecting with your relatives on Skype. I've never used it but sure see its benefits.
Val - Your baking sounds wonderful. I love whipped shortbread but am not overly successful making it. I think I don't whip it enough. My baking has been popular though and it is nice to see people enjoy it. I have one neighbour who always returns my gift tins to me with a return treat inside and usually a sugary one. I'm thinking my walking routine has been noticed though because this time it was returned full of herbal tea! Very much appreciated. I do remember the Mastermind game. I loved it! I played it with my nieces and nephews - and now greats - all the time. It was so interesting to watch their logic develop. One nephew - who just finished a degree in computer science and always loved math - could play that game - seriously - when he was 2.
Stephanie - Enjoy your time off! Sounds like you will be busy with family and celebration -- nothing better!
Irene in BC -- hope you got the presents wrapped -- and that work is not too crazy today.

And to all: Have a wonderful, safe, and Merry Christmas Eve...

Good Morning Everyone -

We have snow today! How wonderful for those who didn't want a green Christmas. It isn't a lot but enough to cover up the grass. Bit of a timing worry at first this morning. For tomorrow my Mother has to be home by 6 for the home nurse to see her and so I want to make sure supper is done about 5 but mass is at 11:30 and the turkey is 11 pounds, so figured if I get the turkey in just before we go to mass it should be all good. Our friends are coming for super tonight so have some cooking to do but I am looking forward to all of it.

Have a wonderful Christmas Eve.
