Today is the first day of the new year and of course, the first day of the rest of my life.
Hope you all are having a wonderful day to follow the milestone of last night. I was included in the celebration of my dd's bf's family. We had a great night with dinner, dancing, playing a game and karaoke. I may have felt a bit shy initially but they are very warm and welcoming so it went well.
I too want to express my thanks to the members of this group for consistently sharing and caring. I appreciate this team very much and the daily discussion here is my primary Spark, literally and figuratively!
Here's to a successful 2013: emoticon

Happy New Year's Eve everyone.

I want to echo Stephanie and TB "first I want to thank all you ladies for helping me on my journey to a healthier life style." We may be virtual friends, but you are an important part of my life.

My intentions (love that Val) are to continue going in the direction I have been going - exercising daily, and eating in a healthy manner.

Having said that, DH and I have opted for a quiet evening at home, and we are having take out Chinese food. I was working today and DH was running errands and just called to see if I would like that - and I would. So, NOT the best choice in eating to end the year, but still a conscious choice. And tomorrow, definitely on track. I did some very healthy shopping on my way home from work, so I have a fridge full of veggies that I WILL be eating.

Our new years tradition,no matter where in the world we are, is to phone both our DS and our parents at midnight - their time. I called my parents tonight to make sure that they will be up, and they will be - so we'll be doing that.

And I would like to wish good health and much happiness to all of you on this team: Val, Stephanie, Lindie, TB, Suzzy, mbIrene, Lynette, and Alicia. And anyone else whose name I might have missed.

Oh and Val, way to go on the carpet and the basement! You have worked to get there - way to go!

Irene in BC

Renewed determination. I WILL do this!

Happy New Years Eve team!

As Stephanie said, so eloquently "first I want to thank all you ladies for helping me on my journey to a healthier life style..." I agree!

Here's hoping 2013 brings only good things to one and all emoticon

Lindie: Am I making quilts? When am I not? emoticon emoticon Right now I'm alternating between one I'm making for my son and DIL for Christmas next year and one I'll contribute to Sis for her on-line store.

Valerie: Hurray on the basement!

Our New Years Eve will be pretty simple. Mr. TB made his wonderful chili, we had a couple glasses of white wine ... maybe we'll be able to stay awake long enough to watch the ball drop in Times Square emoticon

I re-started my home exercise program this morning; my 'intentions' are to continue with that. I can't allow myself to get out of shape or I'll really hurt myself when I start throwing saddles etc. around in the spring. I'm not sure when I'll ride again - the barn at the stable is SO cold! Sis wants me to visit her in February and if it works out that I can make it I'll get some riding in then. Her barn isn't drafty and she has a heated tack room ... handling warm tack and being able to warm up makes the whole process so much easier. She also has a riding arena so we won't have to depend on Mother Nature.

emoticon to everyone I missed. Have a safe, fun New Years Eve

Evening, ladies. I'm glad you like the term "intentions". It does sound much better, doesn't it? I heard it on BT Winnipeg - a TV show that is on every weekday morning.

Guess what! Guess what!! I have my carpet all laid in the basement!! My dh helped me move the last of the furniture out of the way so I could cut the carpet to the correct length. We pulled it as straight as we could, but there are still a few bumps that need to be pulled out. We'll be moving the furniture back over to the other side and then, with the weight of the furniture, we should be able to straighten it out better. Then,. if I need to, I can trim the edges a bit. I know that I cut it a little wider than it needed to be, but I wanted to be safe and not cut it short. Anyway, we should have the basement pretty much finished this week. YEAH!! (All I can say, though is - it's about time!! emoticon

We just had a bit of pizza for supper tonight. Then shortly, I'll be making a taco dip and we'll have that and shrimp with cocktail sauce for snacks. We do that every year at this time to celebrate New Years. then we'll probably be off to bed by 10:30-11:00. Well, it's 12:00 someplace in the world! LOL

Have a great New Years, ladies. If you go out, please drive safely.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Good mid day ladies, I have already set my intentions for the up comming months, should be for the year as well. I am still attempting to create new skills to replace bad habits in my life ... that in itself should keep me quite busy.

Dropping in to wish everyone a very happy, healthy, and enjoyable New Years !! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Well today I am going to reminisce on the past year.....first I want to thank all you ladies for helping me on my journey to a healthier life style...reading your posts some days changed my whole outlook on the day.....

Irene MB you are an inspiration to have lost 60 pounds....my weight loss in comparison seems so small...since Mar when I joined SP only 5 pounds....much too slow and I have to get my myself motivated to do better in the new year.

Lindie I really don't mind the winter down here in Windsor On...although we do get snow our winters are fairly mild in comparison to what I've read here about winters across the country....that for me has been a real eye opener...but I would like someday to return to Vancouver.....I loved the scenery of the mountains...that is something we lack here.

Suzzy sorry to hear about your uncle...hope his arm is better....my mom was despondent for a long time after my dad died (he passed away from Alzheimer in 2000)....but with time she eventually carved out a life for herself and now is very independent...at 91 years young she has an active social life.

Val I like that idea "intentions"...my intentions are to live a healthier life style...that means getting more exercising...I've been sorely lacking in that department these last few weeks....but no more....Leslie (walking DVD) and I are going to become good friends in the coming new year.

Irene BC hope you get off early today and get to enjoy New Years Eve.

Pat I also can't wait for the longer days...I hate it when at 5:30pm it gets dark outside...I long for the sunshine.

Well tonight all my family are at my DS house to celebrate another GD birthday....this one will be 8 years old....I am blessed that we will all be together again...but cursed that I will have to be vigilant in my eating tonight......but my "intentions" are to get back on track tomorrow.....have a happy new year everyone.

Morning, ladies.

Today, we will be working in the basement, plus cleaning up the main living area, taking down the tree, etc. etc. I also have to make some snacks that we have every year to help us celebrate New Years. I always have finger foods to eat. My kids love it when I do that.

As for resolutions, I don't make them. I heard on a program this morning that people should not make resolutions. She called it a dirty word. she says we should make "Intentions" so that if we don't follow through, it won't make us feel as guilty. I like that idea. So my Intention this year is to exercise more and to keep finding easy healthy recipes to feed my family.

Well, I'd better go get dressed. (I'm still sitting in my jammies...)

A very happy and healthy new year to you all!

Good evening everyone - glad to see everyone back! And with so many commenting, I simply can't comment on all - but SO good to see you all.

Just a few comments. It looks like two people here have had broken necks in the past - Lynette AND Val. Wow. I did know that broken neck does not necessarily mean paralysis - a teenager across the street had one a few years ago,and he came back from it okay. But it also can. Depends on the break. Anyway, I am so glad that this isn't what happened with GS. But I am still amazed that TWO of you have had this injury.

And Suzzy, hope that your husband is feeling better soon, and that they are able to save the arm of your uncle (I think it was.)

To eveyone else, a big hi. And all the very best for the coming year.

As for me, a good day at work today, and I will be there tomorrow too - although we do close early. New year's greetings to you all. emoticon

Hello everyone,
this week has been even more busy than the weeks before Christmas. Today was the day we all go to my mothers only 3 people were sick so could not attend. One of them was my own husband who has been ill for a few days now.

The other 2 were my cousin who is the life of the party and then my uncle who fell last week and hurt his arm but refused to go to the hospital. Well he fell again a couple nights ago but he was not discovered until the next day by my cousin who went in to check on him. By then, his arm was black from the shoulder to the finger tips and is quite broken at the shoulder.
The ambulance attendants had to coax him to go with them and he finally gave in. There is a fear that he could lose the arm because had been neglected but I have not heard anything for certain. My uncle is 70 years old but is more like a 90 year old. He has not taken care of himself since losing his wife and son just a couple years apart. I think he actually wants to let go of life.

I can not wait for tomorrow to begin as it is when I get back to my regular routine. Anything that is in my house that is unhealthy will be eliminated. I am taking an inventory and telling dear hubby to either toss his cookies and junk out, or get it out of my cupboards and hide it somewhere that I can't see it.
Hubby plans to get healthy in this new year so I don't expect an argument from him especially while he is not feeling well.

We don't make a big deal with New Years dinner and it is just a regular meal. We don't plan on celebrating with alcohol tomorrow night as we stay home to ring in the new year so that is a plus. Sparkling water with do the trick just as easily.

I am sending my best wishes to all for a safe, healthy and happy New Year and may it be monumental in reaching all of yours and my goals.

emoticon emoticon

Wishing all fellow Sparklers a healthy and happy journey!

Hugs and Friendship
Suzzy

Evening, ladies. I'm back from my visit with my Mom and bff. We had a great time. My nieces from Montreal and Toronto were there as well. Got in lots of Scrabble - about 10 games with Mom and 33 with my bff, so that was nice.

MB Irene - that's the way to do it - just keep trying and don't give up. You'll get there - never fear.

BC Irene - I'm so glad you're sons stepson does not have a broken back and neck (I know what a broken neck feels like. I broke mine in '76.), but it's too bad the hospital had to call before they had all the facts. What a stressful time for you.
I'll read your blog as soon as I'm finished catching up here.

Hi, to everyone. I read everything but I'm getting very tired right now. I think it'll be early to bed for this old fogey tonight. LOL Have a good one ladies.

Good evening ladies, just a slow lazy day here, NOT !! It was muffin day as I had the last one this afternoon while prepping for the new muffins- oat bran with buttermilk, grated carrots, zest of orange - that was an experience - but I managed to make 3 dozen and 1 extra muffin that I will have for breakfast tomorrow. I will post the muffin mix another time, all and all it was not time consuming but lacked direction for someone who is directionally challanged and I did make one teensy weensy mistake .. other then grating my finger instead of the carrot !!!

Goals are important to me, I have to set something in motion or I will always be falling OFF the wagon instead of staying on, but for me, it has to be the right goal - something as simple as no food after 7 pm can be acheived and can be successful. Aiming to loose 5 lbs a month, is not . I fluctuate too too much and my fat LOVES me ... more then me by the looks of it LOL

I have seen people who joined spark and motored along with no problems, lost their weight, kept it off and continued doing what they did .. I've seen others who get discouraged because they set the bar to high ( from watching biggest loser and that nonsense ) and then give up and stop. It all depends on the individual and what their needs are. Since joining spark, mine have changed drastically. One thing that has changed is why I am doing this. Its not for the grandkids, they love me or not as I am, its not for anyone else, its for ME .. and it has to be for me, so that I succeed.

Stephanie, I am with you - I seldom go out in the cold winter snowy days too, so I would tend to hibernate in winter back home in Windsor - but here in BC its mild enough I can get out most days and not be too too bothered. There's snow on the mountains and they are staying there JUST fine.

Lynnette, I will have to read your blog, I dont' do grey hound much anymore - I have had good journeys and bad journeys on them. When I first came to BC from ON it was on a train with 3 small kiddies, when we got outside Chatham, my youngest said it was a nice ride, could we go home now. She could not fantham that we had no home to go to and it just about broke my heart to tell her no, we were continuing to join their Aunt in Vancouver. EVentually when going along the prairies they had free run of the train almost, till folks for the stampeed got on and partied all freaken night long bothering us and nothing could be done about it. Then I left BC and went back to ON by greyhound and picked up a derelict husband in Winnipeg - we wont' talk about that at all - but I have gone by greyhound to visit Merilyn, who used to comment on this thread, but still sparks ...

Irene in MB you are doing awesome and yes the hardest thing for the skin to do at our age is shrink back, it can but not as fast which is why we should not be in a hurry to loose, my aprin is not so bad ( saggy tummy ) but it sags from surgery as well, however I am learning to hold my tummy in more ! Keep up the good work eh !

Irene in BC I have some information for you about my cardiac therapy sessions and will send you a spark mail on it. Thanks for waiting I should have answered sooner. So good to hear all is doing well, how was your day at work today?

TB are you making quilts again? At least you have good hobbys to pass the time away with the dreary cold days ..

Valerie, your travelling so hope you enjoyed your visit with your mom and family in Brandon... safe journey home too eh ..

WELL I better get motoring .. cheers and hello to anyone I may have missed ... waving at you all !!

Quiet day ....resting after my GD 2 year old birthday party.

Irene so glad knowone was seriously injured ......late night phone calls can be scary....and going down our weight loss journey together will give added motivation for sure....lets do it!

Lindie setting goals for myself doesn't work either...I am going to try just a healthier life style.....hoping that the weight loss follows.

Lynette enjoyed your blog on travelling by bus.

Pat I am not fond of the cold either .....but when I am watching my GD I try to get some fresh air...takes me longer to bundle them all up than the time I spend outdoors.

Irene Mb...that casino is close! We used to have an OLG within walking distance but it closed...now we have to drive into the city to go to the casino .....

Hope all are having a relaxing day....Suzzy ;Alicia and everyone I am forgetting...take care!

Little perspective perhaps or incentive............I dropped 60 lbs to date and I lost a whole foot, yes 12 inches.... off of my hips. Ok, the belly fat seems to be really attached to me so my waist is trailing along in second place.

love the pennies from heaven piggy bank gift idea. I wish more people would come to visit to see my beautiful part of the world and I totally believe that EVERY place has its own charms. I love to travel, but after many days away from home I will be glad to be home again too!
BC Irene, having suffered a C5 fracture which IS a broken neck, I am baffled at the terminology the hospital used. But I also know that when I first was told, I thought that meant I was going to die or be paralyzed and neither one happened. I guess all's well that ends well.
Which makes me think that I will blog about my Greyhound experience--- try to convince myself that all is well because it was an inconvenience and an annoyance but I eventually got where I needed to be! HA!
Off to blog!

Good evening ladies, its been a quiet day for me today, I did go out for breakfast but then stayed in mostly except to get something to mail to a friend in the states.. its a pennies from heaven ceramic bank to encourage her to come to Canada and see our beautiful country .. so hopefully, I even gave her 20.00 cad to get her started and then put a penny, nickle, dime and quarter, all canadian in the bank for her .. I am sure they do not get the amount of Canadian money that we get in american in our change - I have a special tin for my american coin and it goes in there ...

Irene in BC my goodness that must have been some scare - and then releif, that would have had me to the cupboards for comfort food except there's only pretzels and those I can walk away from. Glad to hear everything is ok .. .

Irene in MB - we all go through this in our journey, I've gained quite a bit back but the focus for me now is a healthy heart and the cardiac rehab centre go to wants us to focus on getting healthy and not worry about weight ... You will do good, like you said the trigger foods are not there, keeping busy will help as well. I do not set new years goals, they never did work so I set my goals for 2013 earlier this month in a blog .. I am good to go ..

TB glad you are doing good and enjoying your time - but you will get cabin fever and when that sets in, you will want to go to the stables, cold or not just to get out .. so enjoy the break.. you can find other things to do to exercise and keep limber at .. that moon musta been georgeous !!

Stephanie I sure hope work went ok for you - I am off till the 7th and enjoying every minute of NOT thinking about work but alas it will come to an end soon enough .. and it does pay the bills I need paid lol ...

Hope everyone else is doing ok, Valerie is travelling, Lynnette is busy with family, and Lynn too, will drop in later .. .

Good evening everyone:

I've been MIA, I know. I've been busy with family stuff, chores and working on quilts.

I haven't been riding though emoticon I could, but I'm such a cold weather wimp! The riding isn't the issue - I can dress for that. The problem is with the pre-riding grooming and tacking ... it's freezing cold in the stable and I just can't bring myself to do it.

I guess I'll have to get organized for in-house workouts for the next couple months.

Irene: Sorry to hear about your middle-of-the-night phone call. We all dread hearing the phone ring at those hours. I'm just so glad that things are looking positive for your step grandson.

MB Irene: I love your attitude ... never give up!

Stephanie: We seem to be getting snow, non-stop ... just a little bit at a time. We just caught the edge of the storm you all experienced a couple days ago but it seems like "winter by attrition" has hit us.

Actually, what I said isn't completely true. For the last few nights we've had clear skies, full moon and beautiful, beautiful moon shadows (I wish I had a camera capable of capturing those). Then morning comes and it's cloudy and dreary. emoticon

However, the days are getting longer and it won't be long before the sun begins to feel warm again. I can't wait!!!

Take care all and emoticon hello to everyone. I'll talk to you soon.

Good afternoon everyone, and especially Stephanie and mb Irene who have been on today

mb Irene, I just read your blog - way to go - that foot is a significant achievement.

Stephanie, I just reset my goals - yet again! - and I see that we both have about the same amount we would like to lose. Your ticker shows you 22 lbs to goal, and mine is 24. We CAN do this!

I finally weighed myself this morning and although I gained 4 lbs in early December/germany trip time, I did NOT gain over Christmas itself! That is a plus for me. Yesterday I went back on track, and I plan to stay there. This WILL be the year that I reach my goal.

We took out of town DS (who I traveled with) and his wife to the airport yesterday - so they will be back in Calgary now. It was lovely spending that time with him, and having both of them here for Christmas.

As for other DS - yesterday was distressing. They got a phone call from a hospital yesterday - his oldest stepson (early 20s), who works and lives in Saskatchewan, was in a car accident. The hospital said that he had broken his neck and back. Many many hours later there was another phone call - no broken neck or back - just fractures and bruises, and he was being released. How could a hospital be so wrong? The worry that this phone call generated for the whole family...... Anyway, I never thought that a phone call about an accident would ever be a relief, but this second phone call was. Of course it would have been so much better if there had been NO accident, but given what we thought HAD happened, this was a good news phone call.

Have a good day everyone, and take care out there!

Irene in BC

Renewed determination. I WILL do this!

Back on track was short lived. So, I will try again and again.. if need to be; to pull it together. I think once all of the ''not for me foods'' are cleared out of the house then... it will be clear sailing.

I don't do resolutions but I do have some things I would like to get done in 2013. Mostly, some diy projects in the house. How about you?

Afternoon ladies...how is your day going? I'm at work today so my day is flying by....

Yes Irene we got snow and more is predicted, only 2 inches but enough to make the roads slippery again.....

Lindie we go to my DS for New Year's Eve and celebrate my GD's birthday at the same time......she turns 8 this year so it's always nice to know we will all be together for the holidays.

Irene Mb....I also gained a couple of pounds but this time I'm not going to fret about it.....next week is soon enough to get back on track......going to the casino sounds like fun.....we have a casino down here too, is yours close by?

Val safe travels.

Hope everyone is having a great Fri...Suzzy, Pat, Alicia and anyone else I've forgotten.....take care.

Just popping to say good evening to everyone. Or good morning - as that will be when anyone reads it!

Like your tips, Lindie. And your pizza - I could go for one too!

Lynette, you sound like you were having a lot of fun- both with the pizza and family.

Mb Irene (do I have that right?) this Irene also gained a few pounds. I am not back on track today - but tomorrow - for sure!

Stephanie, and everyone else in Ontario - wow, did you get hit with snow today. It has been all over the news tonight. I hope that you are all warm and safe.

Big hi to everyone else.

I did end up getting time off work today to go to that funeral - not a close friend, but a lovely older man from our church. When we got there, we found out that another older person from the church passed away on Christmas day. And the mother of one of our sons just a few days before Christmas. This is a very difficult time of year for many people. If you are one of them - my thoughts are with you.

So I was back to work this morning, but then off in the afternoon, and now I am on my weekend. Back to work on Sunday again, as usual.

If any of you are interested in my December travels, I have just posted a blog - mostly photos.

Have a great Friday everyone.

Pizza - I had it for dinner tonite and have some for lunch tomorrow and left 2 pieces for new years eve, I just had to have a turkey break, I do eat a lot of turkey but I also have the "fake turkey" as my daughter calls it, its very good and I enjoy it. Comes with its own gravey - made for vegan or vegetarian!

I think I am just gonna stay home new years, the 3rd is my day to celebrate - and this year its hair cut and dinner. My daugher asked me which restaurant I wanted to go to. She wanted to go to one place but I dont' care for it. Thinking maybe White Spot for fish and chips .. I like theirs.

Hope everyone had a good day today, I did read the posts at work. but now I am brain dead and needing my bed. Have a good night all = cheers !!

Hi there ladies....we got snow....6" (15cm) of it, and although it looks pretty outside I dread having to drive in it tomorrow for work......good thing is I took my 2 youngest GD's tobogganing.....but only was able to stay outside for an hour.....noses, hands & feet although bundled up were getting cold.....

Lindie...I'm with you I could go for a pizza right now.....anything but turkey, ham, seafood, etc.....and I know I've gained a couple of pounds, but I'm not going to fret over it.

Sounds like you all had nice a Christmas....hope Santa brought what you wanted...I know I got exactly the things I wanted....I used to tell the kids not to buy us anything for the holidays....and some years we got the strangest gifts ( a star name after us??)....now I tell them what we could use and I always get something useful.....love my new blender, bedding and down filled pillows and books for my Kindle Fire.

Safe traveling for those on the road and hope everyone is having a great Thurs....

Pizza would have been nice today - but we had turkey dinner again at my nephews and he cooked everything !! It was all good but I can tell you we are all turkied out now ...

Used my lamp today for 30 min, I will have to find a way to use the 30 minutes so it goes by fast instead of dragging - but HGTV has some good programs on at 6 am in the morning LOL

Tip number 4- if you insist on making new years resolutions, make those that wont' disappoint you if you do not carry through with it, there's been suficient research done that new years resolutions fail a lot .... so make some that its ok to fail and then make some before new years that you will stick with cause they are not new years ones....

Good morning everyone. Sounds like you all had good Christmases. Ours is not yet quite over. Our local DS is hosting Christmas dinner - but because of some step family complications, they are doing Christmas dinner today. We visited yesterday and did the present thing, but today is the turkey dinner - so my temptation is still in front of me!

Meanwhile other DS (the out of town one I went to Germany with) and DIL are staying with us. They have been in and out visiting friends. Unfortunately the mother of one of their local friends passed away just before Christmas - so they have seen quite a bit of her. A wonderful older man from our church passed away also, and the funeral is tomorrow. I am back at work tomorrow but I am going to see if I can get the time off for the funeral, but I do not know if it will be possible to get the time off.

All of this, plus the Germany trip right before, has made for a very different kind of Christmas this year. It has still been a good Christmas - but different.

Anyway, I wish all of you the very best for the end of the year, and all the best for the coming one.

Another Christmas gone ....hope everyone had a great holiday....I know I've eaten too much but I'll worry about that later....

Val you got lots of nice gifts...have a great visit with you mom....

Lindie...love your new profile picture! I got those red Olympic mitts last year for Christmas, but it hasn't been cold enough to wear them yet....but they are nice aren't they?

Suzy we also play cards on day Christmas in the evening....my 91 year old mom usually cleans us all out (we play with coins)...but she is so sharp when it comes to cards.....and its the one thing even the older 3 grandkids can play too...we have a blast.

Irene your GD was so right about the ornaments each having their own story....every year I put my tree up I think of the story behind the special ornaments I have always reminisce during that time....

Lynette yes you are so right each and everyone here is special gift .....

Pat hope you enjoyed your GS's visit and had a happy Christmas.

Hope you all had a very merry Christmas, Irene MB, Alicia, and anyone I forgot.....this year my 10 year old GD got a surprise box from my youngest DD ....inside the box were 3 more boxes to open up the last box contained a note saying that he would finally get a boy cousin in the May ...his first on his dad's side....that really made our Christmas surprise this year!

Morning, ladies. Hope you all had a good sleep. I did - for about 9 hours! I must have needed it.

Lindie, that note pad says it is not a phone, but is one that uses the same radio frequency as a cell phone. I'll let you know how it is once I've figured it out.

Well, my dh is waiting for me to finish getting ready to go so I'd better get off here. Have a great week, ladies. I'll probably talk with you on Sunday.

That's a great pic of you, Lindie. Sounds like you had a good Christmas and that everyone thinks you've been a good girl this year. My family got me a new skillet/griddle, slippers, gloves, mittens, and the Just Dance 4 game for the Wii. I also received a Samsung Galaxy Notepad 10.1. I was really shocked by that one. Now I have to figure out how to use it before my trip in 8 months, 21 days, 18 hours, 23 minutes...22 minutes... but who's counting? emoticon

Evan had fun with the Treasure Hunt. He did have to think on a couple of the clues, but they were mostly pretty straight forward. Alex was also really happy with everything he received.

Tomorrow, we are thinking of heading out to Brandon to visit Mom for a few days, then we'll be going to Killarney for the weekend. We'll come back on Sunday. Then I have Monday and Tuesday off to get my house cleaned up and Christmas put away for another year.

Have a good evening, ladies. I won't be around for a few days, so please don't worry if you don't hear from me. I'll drop by int the morning if I get a chance to, though.

Everyone is gone now and I can relax and have a breather. I was dressed up all day and it was nice to be dressed up. I never did get a call from the other daughter so I texted her a message, return was you to so responded with yup... left it at that, I will see her next week anyway, her response will be that she is busy.

Gene got me a lovely plush red housecoat with matching sock style slippers with the rubber on the bottoms, so no slide .. or slip - Dee got me the lamp, a big one - and some red Canada mitts from the olympic that was here a couple of years ago. All in All I liked what I got.

Dee brought the turkey over and thought it only needed another half hour, turned out it needed more then that and Gene had to leave for work so I made him a plate with the turkey I cooked last night. Guess Dee over underestimated the time and size of turkey. The package said 10 Kilos but was not sure what pound. She took the carcass home to make soup and I kept the legs for the same purpose and the drippings from the pan, but drained it for the stuff that was in it. I hope the fat separates and I will just remove the fat before using it to make soup tomorrow. Course I have the clean up now. We had so much turkey that my sister came over and had dinner then took some home for her and Mike, no one wanted apple pie and ice cream so we will ahve that tomorrow. Now I have the kitchen to clean up but not now now I am unwinding ... then I will clean up the kitchen. Tomorrow I will start the light therapy.

Tip # 2 - now is the time to resolve any and all tiffs/riffs that may be going on - life is too short, take advantage of the season and patch things up. You can never really count on tomorrow, it may be too late ...

Tip # 3 - prepare for making soup tomorrow and put some turkey aside for hot turkey sandwiches on a cold winter day.....

As Lynette said, all of you ladies in this group are a gift. emoticon

Thank you for the welcome back, and just for being there.

We have just had a lovely relaxing eveing with Calgary son and wife (they are staying with us for a few days), but DS is suffering jet lag, so they just went to bed. Aged mother meantime is still going strong. :-) Other DS is hosting Christmas dinner this year, but due to family complications on their side, it will be on boxing day, so I am not exactly sure what we are doing tomorrow. A bit of visiting here and there I think. And yes, someone asked - I finally did get my tree decorated. GD helped, and she commented at the end "wow Nana, each of these ornaments has its own story." I kind of liked that.

Just wanted to wish all of you a wonderful christmas, and all the very best for the new year.

Good tip, Lindie. I've been pretty proud of myself lately. You remember those goodies I brought home about a week ago? I've only had about 5 or 6 of them - about 1 per day. Not bad, eh?

This weekend I got busy. Yesterday I made some Butterscotch Confetti. Today it was Cranberry Sauce, Butter Tarts, Broccoli Salad, and right now a Pumpkin Cheesecake is in the oven. I think that'll be enough baking for me. I don't understand why I don't do this more often, because I was sure enjoying it while I was doing it... Probably because they disappear almost as fast as they are baked. LOL

Well, I must go. I just wanted to pop in to see what everyone was up to. Have a great Holiday, ladies. Talk with you all later. Like Lindie, I should be around pretty much the whole time...

Morning, ladies. We had a good time at the Christmas party last night. The only problem was that where we sat, there was a cold breeze coming from the fire escape doors and we couldn't see the stage very well so we missed most of the magician's act. Plus, the sound wasn't very good on the microphones, so it was hard to hear what was being said. But we sat with some friends of mine from work, so we had a really good visit with them. The music man at the dance was really good. He came out from behind the table and encouraged the dancers by showing them some of the dance steps to the songs. I was quite impressed with him. The music that he played was good as well.

Irene, I'm sorry, I meant to wish you a happy birthday but I forgot. So a belated, VERY emoticon . Did you get your tree up?

Stephanie, Fridges aren't made to last any more, are they? And sometimes they put so much into them, that it just means that more things can break down. I'm glad you were able to save almost everything and that you were able to find a new one so quickly.

Lindie, when the kids were young, I used to do the number thing. Evan used to like getting into the presents to see how many he got, so I stopped putting his name on them until after he was asleep on Christmas Eve. LOL It cured him of that habit...

Hi, Suzzy, did you have a good time shopping yesterday? I try to avoid the crowds right about now... Hope you get your dogs bathed okay today.

My goodness, Lynette, you sure sound chipper. With all the stuff you've been, you'd think you were one of Santa's little elves! LOL

Have a great day, ladies. I'm busy right now trying to hink up clues for Evan to go on his Treasure Hunt. This is going to be fun! Later, everyone.

It is so wonderful to come here and read our stories. We work on bringing joy to the significant others in our lives, while remembering that the woman in the mirror needs to be #1. YAY team! Lindie, your emoticon sign-off was a party on the page, to which we are all invited. Loved it.
I have had such a good day. Up quite early, got right to work, then went out and met up with R and his daughter, A for lunch and a bit of shopping. Now, I'm having a lovely evening accomplishing lots, snug inside (it's about -28 outside, but the snow seems to have stopped), listening to music, adding to the pile of wrapped gifts, working on some of the projects I had in mind.....I'll go to church tomorrow and try to hand off a few presents there but if my friends don't show up, I hope to pop by their houses. It's almost Christmas! Such fun.
Well, best get back to the work table. I'll check back in tomorrow unless I panic!
Blessings of the season,
Lynette

Hi everyone,

well it'a just about here. Just 3 more sleeps LOL
It seems that my housework never ends because again today I was still dusting and shining things up .
I am so ready for Christmas.

Stephanie glad you got a new fridge. I am with you on getting back to basics. Those good old fridges we had when we were first married were the best and I am all for keeping them simple. Keep my food cold and give me lots of depth and width and I am happy.

Lindmae, hope you take it easy being away from the cardio rehab. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to you as well.

Valerie, glad you got all your wrapping done.

My daughter has just phoned me and asked me to take her for last minute shopping tomorrow. Guess I will have a busy day again.

Bathing the 3 dogs in on my list tomorrow so I better get that done first thing. Hope it stays cold so they don't get muddy.

Sending everyone best wishes for a very Merry Christmas. For those traveling be safe and watch out for all the crazy people on the roads.

Wishing all fellow Sparklers a healthy and happy journey!

Evening everyone, I got a good nights sleep and went to cardio rehab, now its closed till after the new year but I am off that week so I can go for 3 days in a row if I wish ... I also went to Foot solution for boots, they were too much money and I did not care for the style so settled for some New balance runner style boots that will keep my feet dry provided the puddles are not too too deep... course now that I have them maybe there will be no snow or rain.

Valerie, next year when you do the pressies, do a number system, or something so that only you know who gets what and then the kids can have fun figuring out whose is for whom LOL Well something like that ! Who says you can't have fun and play games with holiday pressies ??

Stephanie, did you figure out your new fridge? Mine is a plain white one too but frost free freezer and then the door can be put on for right or left opening - looks wierd to have a handle groove in the both left and right sides of the door ! Some peeps go at the left instead of right lol Hope you enjoy your new fridge !

Happy Holidays to Suzzi, Alicia, Lynnette, Lynne, TB, and MB Irene, BC Irene and anyone I may have forgotten or who is reading and still not sure about answering emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Welcome back Irene and emoticon ....you got home just in time to celebrate your special day and the holidays.....also very nice pictures.

Lindie...hope you sleep well tonight....nothing is worth loosing sleep over and you health is more important than anything going on around you.....

Lynette ...I love watching old Christmas movies.....I put them on whenever I'm in the kitchen preparing holidays meals.....

Val hope you enjoy your Christmas party tonight....

Irene MB hope you and your DH are doing well on your new eating plans.....

Pat I love pizza.....I only make turkey on Christmas because my kids expect the traditional meal....but pizza would be my choice of food any day.....

Suzzy I was very lucky all I lost were some leftovers from my frig debacle....every thing else was either put in the upright freezer or in my DD frig.....

Well got my Christmas gift today.....a new frig....eventhough my son is fixing the old one to use in the garage, I had had enough of my old frig...it had been a lemon since we first got it ...always freezing up...so I told my DH we were going frig shopping today....this time no bells and whistles on it....just a plain white frig like I had when I was first married....this time I don't think I'll even need to read the manual on how to use it.....

Hope everyone has a great Christmas holiday......may you all have health and happiness.

Hi, everyone. Well, I finally got all my gifts wrapped. Evan kept bugging me to wrap the gifts because the tree didn't look right without gifts under it. I think he just wanted to see how many things he was getting. LOL Right now we're watching Robin Hood - Men in Tights. It's the funniest movie I can remember and I need a good laugh. Tonight we're going to our company Christmas Party, so that'll be a nice change. Have a great day, ladies.

Welcome home, Irene. Sounds like you had a fantastic time. Nice pictures.

Hi, Lindie. I took tomorrow off. There will be a bunch of kids running around. It's the annual children's party that they have at the office. They set up all kinds of activities for the kids to do and I don't think I'll get much done, so I thought I'd just use up one of my holiday days for it.
Sorry to hear you didn't get a good sleep. When I worked at taxation, I used to have very sleepless nights - dreaming of all those tax returns. I'm sure glad I don't work there any more...

I got up at 5:00 this morning. Of course, I did fall asleep at about 9:30 last night, so I did get my 7 1/2 hours of sleep. About 11pm I thought about the turkey, so I did get up for that and took it out of the freezer to put into the fridge. Then back to bed and out like a light!

Guess I should go. The kids are both still sleeping so it'll be a good time to get the gifts wrapped. Talk with you all later. Have a great day, ladies.

Hello busy ladies!
I had to go downtown this morning to get my bus ticket to get back to AB after the SK jaunt, then went to my friend B's for her open house, and now I'm home to tend to 101 tasks, and also watching sentimental tv. Tomorrow I need to deliver my bff's gift to her bro who will be going to the farm for Xmas and then I'm going to meet R and his middle daughter who is in town for a few days. The connections with family and friends are uppermost in our minds at this time of year.
Hmmm, food for thought.
I haven't really done the Xmas card thing in years and I'm seeing the results of that--only 3 cards delivered to my house this year! I do appreciate keeping in touch with people through email, phone and Facebook and that also includes Spark friends. But that's not quite the same. I'm sure feeling the empty nest this evening.
Time for bed. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

WELCOME BACK BC IRENE !!! Sounds like you had a fabulous trip and yes I will check out the pics, funny, I was just telling my daughter that a friend of mine was off to Germany to the christmas markets there - I mentioned it because she said she was going to go to the German Christmas markets here !!

Rest up and be ready for work, no worries about catching up on here !

Stephanie, I am sorry about your fridge and hope its easily fixed for you ! How did you manage, did you get a nap in today? I did not sleep well last night either but for another reason - work related so can't really talk about it ...

Suzzy, I only like 85% dark chocolate and not a lot but I do have some each day around 2 or 3 at work. I enjoy it .. not crazy about milk chocolate and all the treats at work have been milk chocolate and then my sister got me milk chocolate, that will last a while or two ! I had to vaccuum up Kartmen's kitty litter tonite, he's been shovelling it out his litter box emoticon I think he does it cause I go to work and don't play with him all day LOL

Valerie, I like your idea of suprising Evan, that will be kewl, get pics, really !! Moments to treasure, I am sure once he starts recognizing the parts, he will be very excited to find the rest - what a great idea, treasure hunt on XMAS day !!!!

It was a busy day at work yesterday and today but the last hour very quite, I imagine Monday will be quiet too as a lot will be away but I will go in and work Monday, Thursday and Friday and then I am off for a week yesssss !!

Tomorrow will be my first day back at cardio rehab in 3 weeks, figured its the last open class this year so best go unless they canceled it and never told me LOL - then I am off to foot solutions to find boots - they are open 11 - 3 I think - so I hope to find something practicle to wear on my feet in the yucky weather !

Hello to everyone preparing for their holiday feasting and gatherings !!

Guten abend! I'm baaaaack! I left Dusseldorf this morning at 8:25 am germany time. It is now about 6 am TOMORROW there, but 9 pm today here. I am staying up, and hope to be back on BC time tomorrow. i did this on my way out and it worked - no jet lag!

I didn't actually use much German, mostly I used - do you speak English? and Excuse me.

The trip with my son was wonderful - a whirlwind tour, but very very good. No snow though - apparently they had it here, while we had BC weather in Germany. I really enjoyed the Christmas markets, and we did lots of other things too. A wonderful (and huge, we don't usually do huge) 60th birthday present from my husband and both sons (although it was mainly the idea of the son I travelled with). DS came home on a different set of flights tonight - he won't be arriving til midnight. He will be REALLY tired.

I have posted a few photos on my spark page for any who are interested.

I ate a lot while away, both in the markets and at a few really good restaurants. We also walked A LOT.I am hoping that the walking balances things out.

It is quiet around my house right now - but tomorrow DH will be picking up his wife and they will be here for a few days. I will be working Sunday and Monday. Other DS is hosting Christmas on Boxing Day- and we will have all kinds of family complications to work out. Our tree is up, but not yet decorated. I am able to sit with a netbook tonight, but too tired to stand up and decorate a tree. That will be tomorrow. A nice thing to do on my 60th birthday.

I see that there is another IRENE on here! Hello to you!

And to everyone else. I am not ignoring you - just really travel tired today.

My best wishes to all of you as you prepare for Chrismas.

Irene in BC

Renewed determination. I WILL do this!

Evening, ladies. Well, I had a very busy day today, but, thanks to my bosses help, I got everything done that I wanted to. I still have a lot to do, but it'll just have to wait until after December's month-end is finished.

Stephanie, that's too bad about your fridge. Do you have to get a new one, or can this one be fixed? Sorry you had such a bad sleep last night. Hope it doesn't happen that often, like it seems to for me...

Suzzy, those recipes sound interesting. I'm like you though - I'm not all that fond of chocolate. I'll eat it once in a while, and sometimes, I do have a craving for a chocolate bar, but that doesn't happen very often (thank goodness.)
The main gasket in vehicles are really expensive to fix. Good thing you were getting a new vehicle the next day. That happened to one of our cars when we were on our way home from The Pas - a 6 or 7 hour drive north of Winnipeg on a fairly deserted highway. It's a good thing we hadn't got very far, so there was some traffic. If we had gone about another hour, we would have turned off the main road and there isn't much traffic going down it.

BC Irene should be home soon, shouldn't she? I wonder how she's enjoying herself...Well, I'm off. Have a good evening everyone.

Hello Ladies,

Today I have been making a couple of recipes my cousin gave me. Nothing I will eat as they all involve chocolate. Not something that I am really keen on but will try a tiny piece of each to see if they are worth making again. They were all no bake recipes that involved peanut butter, chocolate chips. marshmallows, and one recipe called for mars bars.
Too rich for me but I'm sure my guests will enjoy them.

Doing laundry now and trying to keep the floors clean. It has been raining all day so have to dry the dogs feet twice as careful to make sure no paw prints get left behind.

Stephanie, I hope your food didn't get spoiled . Why is it that things seem to blow up, or brake just before Christmas!

7 years ago when we were cooking Christmas dinner, the glass top of my upstairs stove completely shattered into a million pieces. Luckily I have a stove in my downstairs kitchen that we used. The top of my stove that broke looked like it was made of tiny particles of crystal and luckily didn't disperse because the top was glued down somehow.

This year it was our van that blew a main gasket but luckily it happened the day before we picked up the new SUV.

Saw a bit of snow this morning that turned quickly to rain as it is quite mild here at 3C

Sending everyone my best wishes for a great day and an awesome weekend.

Wishing all fellow Sparklers a healthy and happy journey!

Hugs and Friendship
Suzzy

Hi Ladies...thought I'd post early since the balance of my day is going to be hectic at work to get everything done today......

Val, I could not get to sleep last night woke up every hour on the hour so finally got up at 5:00 am....when I walked into the kitchen there was a big puddle of water coming from my frig/freezer.....everything I had in the freezer I had to bring into my upright freezer downstairs and the frig stuff I had to stuff into my DD frig's ....what a hassle just before my big Christmas Eve dinner....ARHHHHH.

Suzzy and Pat....the temps today are 32f, so any snow that may have fallen last night was melted by the time I got to work (1/2 ")....it is colder but still no snow....but that may all change soon....the weather man has predicted snow flurries this weekend....YUCK!

Irene MB... so very glad that you and you dh can now eat the same foods, makes cooking so much easier....

Lindie I always enjoy reading your posts...I feel like your are just sitting across from me, with a cup of coffee and we are chatting away.

Well better get to work...I have lots to do today so I can take 4 days off next week....big hellos to all reading these post, Alicia, Irene BC, Lynette...have a great Friday!

Good morning, ladies. I had a fantastic sleep last night. I was so tired by 7pm that I wanted to go to bed then, but I forced myself to stay up until 9pm. If I had gone earlier, I would have woken up way too early...So now, I'm ready for my last day of work for the year. Yeah!!

Yesterday, Evan's Christmas gift was delivered. He's getting a computer - an Alienware 3D gaming system. He should be happy. He just wanted one that would work better than the one he has. Anyway it came in a big black box and Alex took it into our bedroom and told Evan that it was a delivery for Dad's work, since he didn't think there would be anyone at the office when it was to come, he had it shipped home instead. I think I want to have some fun with it, though. I'll wrap a small box for Evan with a note inside for him to go searching for his final gift. Meanwhile, while he's on a hunt (I'll spread them all over), I'll go get the gift and put it under the tree. When he returns to the tree, he'll see it. Who says you can't have fun on Christmas Day? That's what it's all about, right? - having fun with your family and friends.

Stephanie, I read your blog. I sure wish we had some traditions to follow. You are so lucky that you have such beautiful ones. I've tried started something, but everyone else isn't interested, so it's fallen by the wayside...

Irene, you and your hubby are doing really well. I've tried to make my healthy eating habits part of our lifestyle, but my dh insists on going out and bringing home chips, cookies, candy, etc. etc. I don't touch them all that much, but it's always a temptation. So far, the 8 dozen dainties and cookies I brought home the other day - I've had only 2. I'm pretty proud of myself on that one.

Better get moving. I'm taking my car again today so I can stop and pick up groceries on the way home from work. I hope I get everything I need so that I don't have to go out again before Christmas for anything. Have a good day, ladies. I'll check in on you all later...

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Always be yourself, because the people that matter, don't mind, and the one's that do mind don't matter.

Have a great day!

This is late posting but today was my busiest yet.
I washed and waxed floors today, cleaned the upstairs bath and the rest of the main floor. I was so tired I had hubby buy dinner tonight which we rarely do. I just didn't feel like cooking after cleaning all day.

I have a list a mile lone of stuff I still have to do and tomorrow I will be out doing last minute errands and banking.

Tonight we went to our oldest son's place to see out granddaughter and drop off her Christmas gifts. She is going up to Listowel to spend the Christmas holidays with her mom, step dad and brothers and is leaving tomorrow. It was a good visit and then once home I decided to relax and watch the finale of X Factor and do some graphic work for my clients.

Irene, I am so happy for your husbands and your accomplishments. Way to go.

Stephanie, do you have snow? It has been raining here since 3:30 this afternoon. I keep hearing about high winds and snow coming but nothing has happened as of yet. Hoping it won't make the roads bad if we get any. If the roads are slippery I will take my grandson out and to an empty parking lot to teach him how to get out of skids. He won't be taking his road test until August next year but he does need to know how to handle the SUV in slippery weather.
Our new SUV pretty well drives itself and has the ability to steady itself on slippery roads. Not sure how it works but it's a great feature I guess if the time ever comes that we need it.

I will bid you good night but tomorrow will try and post earlier in the day. Wishing everyone a great day tomorrow and a good night's sleep tonight.

Wishing all fellow Sparklers a healthy and happy journey!

Hugs and Friendship

Thanks for your kudos..................but it gets even better.

My husband is no longer pre-diabetic as we are on the same page when it comes to our eating plan. Goes to show you, how we can change our own destiny by taking charge of our health.

Don't work too hard......... step back and take a moment...... just for yourself. The holidays can get over- whelming but it always seems to works out. emoticon

Stephanie: Are you getting snow yet? Relatives in Chicago say they're getting hammered and I think you're on (about the same latitude) are you not? About an hour ago Sis said it was raining at her place.

I'm just now starting to see a few flakes drifting down but Environment Canada says the nasty stuff is just arriving.

Our Christmas traditions seem to be evolving. Last weekend we celebrated with DD and Sis and her family. Today my DIL messaged me asking if it would be okay if they came by the day before Christmas - of course! They also requested Mr. TB's Chicago pizza instead of turkey. That works for me ... he gets to cook emoticon

Christmas day is shaping up to be quiet but that's okay. I'd rather have the kids come by when they have time to relax and enjoy rather than rushing back and forth between sets of parents. I did that for years (hated the pressure); it was really hard with little kids and unpredictable weather. One year we even got into an accident. I promised myself I'd never do that to my kids and I haven't.

Lindie: You definitely had "one of those days". I smiled to see how you just kept on keeping on. emoticon I need to do more of that - I tend to get flustered when things aren't going as planned.

Valerie: I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight. I'm not sure why (and I'm sure not complaining) but I've had really good sleeps since I got home from SW Ontario. I can't remember the last time I've had so many in a row.

I got a lot done today ... bathrooms, scrubbing floors etc. and I actually got to work on my quilt for a bit. Tomorrow is cage cleaning day - after that I think I'll be pretty much caught up. emoticon

Today its raining outside....doesn't look like a very Christmasy day....I'm at home today and only watching 1 gd so I even had time to write a blog.....

Lindie hope you don't catch a cold......stay warm.

Val I'm with Lindie on the wrapping....I put everything I can in large Christmas Dollar store bags or if its gift certificates it goes into a Christmas card....as it is I end up with bags of torn Christmas wrapping paper to recycle with everyone opening up their gifts at my place.....

Pat your quilting sounds like an all house production...but what a beautiful creation you end up with....also you started me thinking about other family Christmas traditions...so today I blogged about mine.

Guess I'll go see what I can make for supper... before you know my other 3 gk's will be off the school bus and coming home hungry....take care all.

Morning, everyone.
Lindie, that was quite a day you had. I think by the middle of it, I would have given up and just stayed home. But you are persistent, aren't you - and persnickety too, so you wouldn't quit. Good for you. As for the gift wrapping, I close the kitchen door and tell the kids (if they are up) to stay out. They are pretty good about that.

I didn't sleep well at all last night. I went to bed at 10:30, but couldn't sleep, so at midnight, I got up and took 1 melatonin pill. That helped me to get to sleep, but 5 1/2 hours is just not enough. Plus - to top it off, it was one of those nights when you make a potty run every half hour or so. Not a good night. Sure hope I can stay awake for the day...

Well, it's 6am so I'd better go get things together to go to work. I guess I'll take my car again. My dh was up again at about 2am - probably with another migraine. If that's what it was, it would be three nights in a row. Not fun. He usually drives me to work and I take the bus home, but I think I'll let him sleep. He needs it.

Have a good day everyone. Hope you don't catch a cold or anything after that day, Lindie. Try to stay warm and dry today!

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Woke up late this morning which started my day off on another foot, can't say wrong foot, just another. Left for work 10 min early - I am always 30 min early to work - and walked out to a snow storm !!

Managed to get to the bus stop but my bus had just gone before I actually got there, so I waited for the next one. And waited and waited. Eventually another person went by and said the bus was stuck on the hills, they could not get up them in the snow, slush and ice.

I started walking to the other bus stop I go to, hoping I would not run into my daughter as I was not wearing boots. The boots she bought me I gave away because I figured they aggrivated my heel problem.

I had planned on getting new boots but not till Jan on my week off so I could take my time and get the right ones to do for a couple of years. I thought maybe I would go to foot solution where I got my sandles.

Sure enough I got to the bus stop and my daughter was there, she smiled and said, are your feet gonna stay dry in those? Pointing to my runners. I said yes, I have thick socks on and a spare at work.

We both got on the bus and sure enough it got stuck and all people standing had to get off until it got unstuck. I was sitting. My daughter was standing. We eventually got to where I could get off and walk to work the rest of the way. I was 20 min LATE for work. I had called my TL and let them know I would be late.

Then tonite I decided maybe to find some boots so went to the mall, it was a bit of a struggle on the ice but I managed. I got the mall and this store was having a 1/2 sale so I asked if they had any in a wide. No such luck, I even tried a couple of pairs.

I continued on to Bath and Beyond and got my seasonal smelly stuff - vanilla bean, so very nice and not a strong scent. I bought my daughter some. OH and I stopped at the apple store and got the new ear buds for the Iphone.

Then I got on the sky train and got off at Cambie to wak up to Wholefoods. YUP icey side walks again. I thought to heck with it, I need to challenge my muscle anyway, and I took my time and got along ok. Eventually I got to a bus but before I did, I hit a super puddle and got a soaker, eventually both feet were soaked !

Got home at 7 pm and now relaxing at the computer while my shoes dry I HOPE !

Ok if your having problems getting your wrapping done, put it all in a big box, go into a private room, put on the radio to some bouncy xmas music and just getter done ! Course I have mine done - gift cards are easy to wrap !!!!!!!! emoticon

Hi, everyone. I had a really good day today. I got lots done, trained my co-worker how to prepare and account for deposits so she can do it while I'm away next week, prepared 91 debit notes (that one surprised me), as well as answering some e-mails, phone calls, etc. Just a very busy day all around. But I only have 2 more days to get all my work done. Don't think it'll be completely done, but I may get close (I hope)...

So - what have you all been up to?
Suzzy, I'm glad to hear your niece is home again. She will probably have her kids on Christmas Day. I predict it'll happen when she's relaxing after a really good meal, when she's least expecting it. LOL

Lynette, I love listening to Christmas songs too. I have a satellite radio at my desk at work and have it on a channel that plays only Christmas songs. It's great! Really helps to keep me in the mood..

Stephanie, those cookies and dainties look really good. I've only had one so far. Not bad, eh? I'm trying really hard to not over eat this Christmas. So far, so good...For Christmas, my son wants me to cook a turkey with all the fixings, so I guess that's what I'll do. But I only have 4 people to cook for. Thank goodness...

Hi, Pat. I don't like wrapping gifts, either, but I love to see people's faces when they open them. I'll get it done. No problem there. Probably this weekend. I saw that you were supposed to get a little snow. Glad it's you and not me. We have enough for now...

Well, I'd better get moving. Have a good evening, ladies. I'll talk with you all tomorrow.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Always be yourself, because the people that matter, don't mind, and the one's that do mind don't matter.

Have a great day!

Good evening all:

Valerie and Lynette: You're way ahead of me wrt wrapping gifts - I really dislike that job and haven't even started yet. Mr. TB likes that kind of thing so he does almost all of it. I have yet to figure out how to get him to wrap his own emoticon

Stephanie: You cook for 30+ people on Christmas Eve? emoticon Pot luck or not, you deserve a medal. Mr. TB cooked tonight too. I always appreciate that.

I was bad today ... actually spent it working on my quilt instead of doing housework. But - I got the back put together, the sandwich made, the basting done and it's now sitting in the quilting frame in my office. I can't touch it tomorrow until I get stuff caught up. I'm not sorry I spent today as I did, though, because I accomplished so much. And now, any time I have a few minutes I can sit down and quilt.

The construction part is always the hardest because I camp out in our living room, all the furniture gets pushed aside and there are fabric bits and cutting tools all over. It's a real mess; but it is an incentive to finish.

We're supposed to get about 25 cm of snow over the next two days. We have lots of food and we don't have to go anywhere so Mother Nature can tantrum all she wants. emoticon I was a bit concerned that we'd have a green Christmas. We've had some ice and snow but nothing that lasted.

emoticon to everyone I've missed. Take care and I'll talk to you soon.

"I Can't" means "I haven't learned how yet and I'm not going to try".

Evening ladies,

Just got back from work and I'm feeling I need to wind down by just relaxing and reading these posts...Val I really do like the Christmas holidays what I don't like is having to get every thing at work done the week before so I can take next week off.....and then I have to plan my Christmas Eve meal where I cook for around 30 family and friends....but everyone brings something so that really helps.....that cookie fundraiser sounds like a great deal.

Suzzy my oldest DD is doing the baking this year...she along with her MIL are bringing all the desserts this year....good luck to your niece...hope all goes well.....

Lindie I'm going to reserve that book at the library "Mindless Eating" and read it after the holidays...thanks for another book recommendation, always enjoy them...and my youngest DD is having her second baby in May too!

Lynette I love listening to Christmas music during the holidays too...I put a radio station on while I'm cooking that just plays Christmas music...but having a CD of Christmas music sung by old friends that's very special....

Well better go and see what's for supper....my DH was home all day today so he did cooking duty.....

Hope everyone has a relaxing Wed night.....
