sounds like you have some really great advice already. i would encourage the Galloway training method or C25K.

I'm also glad you recommended Galloway's site. I've trained with him and he's terrific. The run/walk method works for a lot of beginners and us slow fat runners.
What worked for me, when I started my running journey nearly 10 years ago, was to gradually increase from walking to running. What helped make the final transition was signing up for my first official 5K - and finishing a couple of minutes behind someone older than I - !!!

I have never run or done any cardio before and started with the spark your way to a 5k but then moved up to the 10k so that I could get a longer workout. I like it because it starts with one minute of running and works up over 12 weeks. I have to say the first 3 weeks were the hardest and since then it isn't so bad. Also if you are not ready to move on then just repeat the previous week or modify the current one.
I started the C25K program and that worked best for me - even after years of step aerobics and elliptical workouts. I've since graduated from the C25K. Running is hard and it's harder when we are heavier, I'm at 235 lbs. but found that this program really worked well.
can anyone suggest something that worked for you when you first started running? i did step aerobics for almost a year before i started, so i was somewhat in shape, but my friend wants to start with running rather than another exercise. i gave her jeff galloway's site and recommended she start with C25K. any other suggestions or is there something better? thanks!
