My Mom did not have the patience to teach knitting to us. She tried but we just could not learn as fast as she thought we should and it was not a pretty picture. I ended up going to a class at one of the department stores ( that should tell you how long ago it was...LOL) and then did some on my own. Once I had the basics she would show me different things but I was in no way as good as her. I could do the slippers, hats scarfs but she could whip out sweaters (adult and bady) and mittens and just about everything you could think of. She was pretty much self taught. I am way better at crocheting. There are so many things half finished that I don't know if I will be able to do them. Understanding her changes to patterns and getting the same tightness on the stitches is going to be almost impossible. But I will try a couple of the projects and see what happens. If not maybe I could use some crocheting to finish. Don't know how that would look. She has a pair of slippers that she has one done but I could not find the pattern so maybe one will be knitted from har and the other crocheted from me. My Dad would get a kick out of that.

You have the sweater that your Grandmother made and I remember my Mom made poncho's for all of us kids. That was back in the late 60's. I still have mine and have thought about dragging it out and using it again but I think it might be a bit to small for me yet. The others don't have thiers. I tend not to get rid of handmade things and I am so glad I did not get rid of that.

Vicki- I love the idea of using your mother's yarn to make something for her children. That's such a sweet thing for you to do. I still have the last sweater that my grandmother knitted for me. She passed in 1984. Yeah, 28 years later it's the only thing from her that I have. I wish I had learned to knit from her, but I was still pretty young and foolish then.

It was a very emotional trip. My daughter and I drove downa nd my Dad was VERY insistant that we be home to share Christmas with her kids and my hubby. (He could not make the trip with us as he had dialysis treatments) so we got down there Late Wednesday night and arrived back home at 4am Christmas morning. And we got almost everything done except going through all my Mom's things. We got through some of them to spare my Dad but not as much as I would have hoped. I was able to bring home 4 large totes of yarn as I am the only one of the kids that do that kind of craft. For that I am thankful and I am going to try and make a little something for each one of my brothers and sisters out of Mom's yarn.

Vicki - Your trip to NC must have been bittersweet - to lose your mom but see family members over Christmas.

I wish every one a Happy New Year with the hope that 2012 is a good year for all. emoticon

May you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and may Santa be really good to you. And all the goodies you have be all calorie free!

I am sure you are looking forward to having your sister come for a visit even will all the work you have to do. I would love to have my sister come up from NC but it's been almost 3 years since we all spent the holidays together. I am wishing that we all can get together soon but that will all depend on the economy.

Hello every one. I just want to wish you all a Merry Christmas. My sister and her family will be visiting from Arizona so the next few days will be a flurry of house cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking, planning and then family time so you wont hear from me again until after Christmas. May Santa be good to you and the Lord bless you. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Debbie, it's so great to see you poting again! I am glad you are giving this another try. Sometimes it takes more than once to get moving in the right direction and stay moving. But even if you take another "break" know that many of us have done the same. We just keep trying and making small steps towards that larger goal.

Debbie - nice to have you back. How are you?

I want to thank those who encouraged me to use the food tracker. I finally gave it a try this morning and it went well. Now if I can just remember to use it after every snack and meal it should help me keep this overeating in control.

I'm excited because we are going to visit my parents next week. DH is coming along on this trip so we will have more opportunities to get chores done. Mom and Dad burn wood all winter so we are hoping to cut and haul some from their woods. If we can get a pile stacked now, they wont be scrambling when the cold weather hits. After all, stacking wood is good exercise! emoticon

I am so excited for you as I know how much you are looking forward to this trip. I get excited everytime I have the chance to go home to North Carolina. I have not been down there in about 3 years. I miss it but I know I don't miss the humidity as we are getting enough of that up here in Indiana.

I really believe that you will have a ball with that game and will be buying it for yourself. Then you can have a race with the Grandkids to get your island built. This has become my main source of walking since the humidity has been so high. Love it! And I know I will be using it lots in the winter when it's to cold to get out and walk.

Glad to hear your tooth is doing better! I to have a very low tolerence for pain but very high tolerence to any kind of pain medication. I am glad that we don't have to travel to get the x-rays like you do. You must live in more of a rural location.

I hope that feeling is right and i enjoy it as much as you do. Even better, i hope i get addicted and will want to spend all my spare time on it..:)

I had a tooth drama for the last week. Went to the dentist and he wouldn't touch (pull) my tooth until i went for xrays. He gives me a referral for a xray and i call to make an appointment and am told i have to get it done at a hospital that is 1.5 hour drive. Anyway after a week of pain it's finally done!! It seems like almost every pain medication here has codiene and i'm allergic to it and nurofen didn't help much. I don't do pain well at all..lol

Weekend is here..yah and will be doing the last minute preps for my trip home...omg i'm so excited..one week to go!!!!

Have a great weekend and will chat soon...hugs

I have a feeling that once you play the game you will be buying the game for yourself once you are home. It is good exercise and fun also.

We do water at night but as hot as it is we have to water in the mornings too. I found out that if I keep wetting down my feet and legs I can stand the heat better. It does keep me much cooler.

I am glad you are keeping up with tracking your foods and staying in calorie range, that is half the battle. Now you need to find an exercise you enjoy doing so that you will make the effort to do it. I know in summer with the heat it is hard but I know you can do it.

I would be watering the garden at night when it cools down abit, i'm not a fan of the hot weather either.Call the grandkids over for a play in the sprinkler, they would love that!! :)
Filling up the bathtub with cool water, grabbing a book and relaxing comes to mind for those crazy hot days!!!

I bought the "walk it out" game on ebay yesterday for my daughter for just under $20.00 including postage!! I Will have a play with it when i get there, it does sound like a fun exercise.

Another day using the food tracker and staying within my calorie range but getting slack with the exercise..will do a T-Tapp workout tonight..

The thought of queen size bunk beds did give me a laugh. I have not done much organization today. It is really hot and humid here and my breathing is not the best. I have window A?C units in the kitchen and bedroom but not in the rest of the house. So on really bad days I kind of stay close to the cooler air. Although today they are not so cool. The temp gauge I have in the kitchen for the outdoors reads 116F but in the afternoon it is about 10 degrees off .

I need to get out and water the garden but don't even want to step a foot outdoors! LOL I will later sice I know I have to or the garden will not be any good. We have not had rain for about 2 weeks and that wouold be okay if it was not so fliippin hot out. Maybe I will play in the sprinkler! That should bring my body temp down a bit!

FVHORVATH-You had quite the workout this weekend. Finding room for extra stuff in the house just sorta ...happens!! You may be the first person i know who has queen size bunkbeds..grin!

I'm hoping the next few weeks will fly and take a few pounds with it..so in the next 3 weeks i am determined to lose 2 kgs. Day one of using the nutrition tracker again to keep me on track. I do so much better when i log my foods and it does make me think twice when i go to have something i shouldn't.
I do mention to the girls now and again how nice it would be if they moved here. I know it will never happen but i can dream!!! :)
I should try and get some sleep...freakin insomnia..lol It is 1:40 am and i have to get up in 4 hours for work!!!

CANAUS, I can just imagine how quickly you want to be on that plane! I am lucky to have 3 of my Grandkids close and able to do things with. Everytime I think about moving back south I think of the boys and change my mind. Now if I could get DD andSIL to move too, well that would make the move better.

I too anm one of those "just in case" packers. I have a list of things to take and have everything ready to go and then some.

Got started today moving all the things out of MIL house and either putting in storage or giving away. My SIL, her hubby, my Hubby and I worked for 5 hours today and we have a good amount done. The house is sold and closing is the first week in August so we have a bit of time. But want it done now so we don't have to hurry. I still have to make room in our home to fit a queen bed and 2 dressers in. And I have a very full house now! I don't know how I am going to do it but it may have to go in the family room temporaily ( not put together) until I make room in one of the bedrooms. It will be nice to have a matching set for once!

Got lots of exercise in between the moving and doing my Wii game so I am headed for bed! I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Wellbeing-I'm over the moon about seeing the grandkids..another 3 weeks to go!!
Flying out Aug. 6th!! I'm all packed, now i just have to go thru my suitcases and take half out!! One day i will learn to pack. I am one of those "just in case, i may need it" packers and take stuff i NEVER need. My stepdaughter gave me a huge bag of clothes her little one grew out of to take over to my daughter, so that will save me from packing alot of stuff i don't need..:)

Aww yes, the nutrition tracker!! It makes a huge difference for me with staying within my calorie range!! So..why havent i been using it lately..probably cus i have been naughty and dont want to add the crap i have been eating!!! TIme to get back into tracking..thank for the reminder!!!

MISSNA--I agree.....Abit time consuming at first but once you have the info it makes it much easier and quicker to use the tracker. I have alot saved under favorites, if i couldn't find a food i eat often enough i used the "enter food not listed" tab and added the info. I also added other foods that i often have under "groupings"...stuff like..salads or sandwiches (just one click instead of having to add each ingredient).
I'm not a big fruit eater but found these mini tubs of dipping sauces, one is dark chocolate, caramel and white chocolate...and yes i have been eating alot more fruit but dipping it in these not so good for me sauces. Working on abit less sauce and way more fruit!!!

FVHORVATH-Doubled the walking, WTG!!! Great that you found an exercise that you are enjoying so much. Enjoy the bike riding with your grandsons!!! *smiles*

LADYIRISH-Hope that knee stops giving you grief soon. This sounds way out there but will mention it anyway... Had a conversation just the other day at work about the uses of WD40, b/c one of the boys walked through the office without realizing his boots were leaving a trail of tar or grease...large black footprints and the only thing that worked to get it out was wd40, anyway the boys were coming up with all this stuff it works on. One of them said..."you know mr so and so that comes in here, well he swears by it for pain. No idea if it works or not..lol but i did mention it to my mom who has arthritis...she thinks i'm abit nutty anyway so probably never tried it...but maybe worth a try!!

The knee is better but it's still maddeningly stiff. I hate how hard walking is right now.

I have several recipes on the list of my favorites. And I know it helps a lot when they are something use cook often. Other wise you can use recipes that are close that other members have used. Just do a search on the trackers for them.

I use the tracker daily. I would go over board if I didn't. When I have to put it in the tracker you really stop and think if you really want it. And I use the fitness track since it makes me feel good to see how many miles I have walked each week.

I did not know you could find the "Walk It Out" game on E-bay but it's possible. My thought would be if it's new or used. I know I am loving mine! I have doubled the amount I am wlaking due to this game. Mostly because I can walk no matter what the weather or humidity.

I also bought a new bike this week. I have not got out on it yet since the humidity has been up but as soon as it dips to a reasonable level I am going out to ride. I used to love toride bikes and I have one of my Grandsons wanting to go with me. So I have so motivation to get out there and ride!

I use the nutrition tracker most of the time, and am working on it being all of the time. I added it as an app to my Droid, so that I can add foods as I eat. I don't use the meal plans either, but find the easiest way to add foods is to sit down with the nutritional information and simply add them in. Adding recipes is harder, but worth it for foods that we eat all the time. Today, I added a chicken stir fry recipe. I thought it would have lots of calories, but found that it only has about 450 calories for a cup of the stir fry with a cup of brown rice! Yeah! To add it, I made a list of ingredients and how much of each ingredient is used. Then decided how many servings we would get from each recipe. Now everytime we eat it, I will know how it tracks.

Canaus - When is your trip to Canada? You must be getting so excited to see your grandchildren. emoticon

Does any one use the nutrition tracker on Spark? Is there a trick to making it easier if you don't follow the menu plans given? I've tried a few times to enter food but I just get frustrated when I can't get the food into the tracker.

Since I'm still gaining weight I think I need to start using the tracker, especially for calories eaten during the day.

I'm still walking almost every day. Sometimes it's only 20 minutes. Do you have some one to walk with or it your alone time?

Thanks for suggestions.

Hope everyone is having a great week :)

Glad you are all enjoying the cooler weather *S*

Debbie, the reason i got the trainer was because I wasn't pushing myself at all. I promised myself i will be consistent for 8 weeks with the training (and yes it is expensive but i was desperate) and so disappointed in myself and needed a kick start. I was starting to think i would never get off this yoyo-rollercoaster i was on. Did great for a day or so and back to my old habits again.

The "walk it out" wii game is also available on e-bay!! (i think it's the right one)

VIcki- Music is my preference too. I could live without a tv.. but music...nope!

Have a great day all..off to work i go!! End of the financial year so busy as at work for the next few days

WELLBEING, I could almost live without a TV but DH would go through withdrawals big-time! LOL I was always the one who had maybe 3-4 shows I really liketo watch and of corse the evening news. But other than that I would not have the TV on. Now mucsic would be a differnt story. I would have the radio or CD's playing all the time.

As for the Walk It Out game, I don't think you can use a computer but I would go to the Wii site and look into to it. Since I do have a Tv I never checked on that.

Debbie, as far as levels go I don't think it has levels. It is more of trying to increase the time you walk. You walk to music some fast and some slow. You walk to the beat and it gives you points to "buy" trees, cars, buildings and such to create your town. My knees are terrible and there are times that I can only go 20-30 minutes but then I have played up to 85 minutes. So it is not a matter of speed but length of playing. So I think you should be able to do this with no problem.

The only place I found this game is on Amazon.com so if you want to read about it more go there. The company that makes it is Konami so you could go there and look the game over too. Another reason this is a great game is that most games you have to buy more things to go with it to play. This one you can use the controller and nuchuk or the balance board (if you have one) or the dance pad (if you have that). So you really don't have to buy anything extra.

I worked in the garden today and seen that I have lots of peppers and tomatoes growing but they are just not ready to pick. Darn! I did pick some green onions and had them with supper tonight.

I hope everyone had a great day! We had much cooler weather today so it ws pleasant to be outside. Looking forward to tomorrow so that I can get some more work done outside.

Debbie - We don' miss TV because we have computers. Almost every TV show is available somewhere on the Internet. Next Foodnetwork Star episodes are uploaded about 4 days after they air on TV. Bonus: no or very few commercials. We rent streaming movies from iTunes or borrow DVDs from the library to play on the computer. We've never had cable and there hasn't been a TV in the house in 7 years.

Dh was out of town Thurs and Fri mornings so I wasn't able to do an early morning walk. I'm not too good in the heat, either. The sun makes me itch so I wear long pants, long sleeves and hats which just means I get overheated. I try to get up by 4:30 on weekdays so I can walk while dh is still home in the morning. Then it's shower time and breakfast with dh to discuss the day before and the day coming up. He goes to Mass every morning then to work from there so he leaves the house around 6:15 am.

Ds is an earlybird so he usually comes downstairs about the time dh is leaving. Dd is a night owl who would stay up all night and sleep all day if allowed. She is NOT allowed! At almost 7 she needs a lot of sleep and is miserable if she doesn't get it. I think she takes after me....

Debbie, I hope you feel rested after your nap. Sometimes it feels good to really catch up on sleep.

Mary It's been a little bit cooler here today as well, just not cool enough for me to get out and enjoy it. I have to be really careful with the heat/sun because of my meds. They do not agree with the upper temps. What have you been cooking lately?

Vicki, hope you are getting some walking in on your wii. I'm going to try to get the game to use with the boys system. I think maybe I could do that at a beginners level. I could use it in the early morning before anyone else gets up. Does it even have a beginners level? If not I better not waste my money.

Nancy, if you are out there, we all miss you. Hope all is well and your house is coming along quickly.

Canus, I wish I could have a personal trainer, just for a little while. But there is no way I could ever afford that. I'm not to good at all at pushing myself and even when or if I do I feel like I'm not doing the excercise right. Doing them right makes a big difference too.

WB, how in the world can you survive kids without a tv? These boys would freak. Actually I would myself.

Well, what did everyone do today? I woke up at 4 am and couldn't go back to sleep so I just got up and made biscuits and gravy for the boys. They really love them. We did some school work (homeschool) & after that I decided I needed a nap and went to lay down for a few minutes. I slept nearly all day emoticon

Gotta fix dinner for the boys. Talk to you gals later. Have a great weekend. emoticon

Vicki - Can the wii be used with a computer or is it only used with a TV? It sound like something the kiddos (and I) might like, but we don't have a television.

Canaus - How did you end up halfway across the world?

FVHORVATH, The Wii "walk it out" game sounds like it would be alot of fun. Glad you are enjoying it. I might look into it for my daughter, her b-day is in July. I don't have a Wii but will try it at her house if i get it. Thanks :)

With the trainer- I'm not fussed about some of the exercises she has me doing but i love the way i feel when done. I have been keeping up with some of them on my own (the ones i do enjoy) and i am learning to do the exercises with properly..sorta..she keeps reminding me when i am not doing them correctly. Everytime she comes over she has something different to workout with, i think next week it might be boxing gloves. Other exercises i enjoy doing are T-Tapp , zumba and the elliptical.

TGIF!! and not working on Saturday..yah!
Have a great day all *group hugs*

Dh gave me a gift of several sessions with a personal trainer about 8 years ago. It was well worth the investment. She was a wonderful person who was able to get me to a higher level of intensity than I ever thought possible. No, I don't push myself that hard, but she gave me confidence in using the workout machines and free weights that I still have. She also taught me a lot about proper form and which muscle groups to use to have a safe and effective workout. It was a gift that keeps giving!

Yesterday I went back through some of the older posts on this thread. I am so impressed by you ladies for all you have experienced health wise and in daily life and you keep going. Depression is a real cross to bear. Add in joint pain, arthritis and lung problems and it must make each day a challenge. No wonder you are on meds.

My health problems are slight. I have GERD- acid reflux. It gets better if I don't eat too many fatty foods. I take Protonix once a day to reduce the acid. I also wear orthotics because of bunions and morton's neuroma. No high heels or pretty shoes for me. Just sneakers. I can't use a treadmill or elliptical trainer because my toes fall asleep. I can use a stepper and regular walking outside is fine.

Hope every one is having a good day.

CANAUS, The trainer might be your answer since they will keep you going and not let you quit. But even after the trainer is this something you enjoy doing? Because if it isn't , there might be issues with keeping up with it. Now if you enjoy with the trainer is teaching you then great! Because it will become a habit after a while and you will look forward to getting in those exercises and fell as if something is missing if you don't.

My exercise of choice is walking. (I do do some strength exercises but grumble all the time doing them) I walk outside when the weather permits but when it does not I have a game for the Wii that is called "Walk it Out" it kicks my tail. But it is fun so I keep doing it. You walk to music and get points and with them point you "buy" different items to build your city. Streetlights, cars, trees, planters, and even more music to walk to. Plus you can open up more places to walk with the points. I found out about this game from another SP member and I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed this game since I got it. Now I have only had it for a week but have only missed 2 days walking with it. I am looking forward to making this a habit as it will be great to have in the winter!

I wish all a great day and hope you will do something special for your self to let yourself now how great you really are!

Hi all,
I received some new pics of 2 of the grandkids...of course i cried!! Can't wait to see them..will try and put them up on my page ...of course i think they are too freakin cute!! I must have looked at them 100 times today!! :)

FVHORVATH--Congrats on the 5K walk!! That is awesome, great feeling eh :)
We will almost be neighbours when i'm back home..will be flying into Toronto. It's not all that far from where you are :)
The reason for the personal trainer is b/c i'm slack (would say lazy but i don't like that word..lol) Really needed for someone to push me until I am confident enough to know i will put the effort into it. I think once i'm in a routine and am seeing results i will push myself. Well...that's the plan, will keep you updated on how it's panning out. Procrastinator keeps popping into my mind!

Debbie-I agree, that does suck that you can only go outside for a few minutes at a time. You never know, you just might be off the meds one day!! Another reason for us all to help each other on the journey to make healthier choices!!
I love camping and always hint that is what i want to do when home and my girls are all...ugggg..not camping!!
I will be staying most of the time with my daughter and her boys when i get home. She is also a single mom with no dad in the picture. I told her she can go away for a few days on her own for a much deserved break. She is doing it tough and sure has her hands full with the boys.

I weighed in today and lost 1 kg!! I was reflecting over the past week and i have to say i was really proud of myself for not giving into temptation. I"m sure the food tracker was a huge part of why i kept on track so i will keep up with logging my food. Was it tough? i would say have to say ..NO because everynight before falling asleep ( and i have a few nights went to bed early and read b/c i didnt' trust myself near food) i would give myself a pep talk on how great i felt that i stayed with the plan!!! In the mornings i would do the same, think of how good it felt vs how i would feel if i messed up (and i know that feeling way too well)
Praying to the food Gods to not put temptation in front of me next week...grin!!!

Have a great day all and thanks for listening!!! *hugs*

90's here today too! Humidity is high so that is making it pretty unbearable.

I have no problems with trucks, I guess I shouldn't have as I have nearly always had one. Have a 4X4 SUV now since I ahve to be able to get DH to dialysis center and at least it get a bit better traction than a pick up. And I have to drive 20 miles to work and another 20 back home. But gas mileage really does suck! Gas did go down a bit and ours is at 3.55/ gal.

emoticon Same here. Hot, Hot, Hot emoticon More of the same today.
Hey country girl, nothing wrong with a lady driving a truck. I had a off road SUV until the grandkids came along who are now 16 & 13 and want the SUV back emoticon . Had to go to something more practical for them while they were little (They live with me). I dread the heat today. I take a lot of Rx's and the heat really gets to me. I'm not supposed to be out in the sunlight for more than a few minutes at a time because of the meds as well. (It sucks) I can get really nauseated if I do. It makes camping a little difficult (2 boys & a grandma) I have to be both their male & female influence, no dads in the picture physically or financially)) so we usually only get to go in the early spring or mid to late fall.
Well girls have a great day, more later.

It was in the 90's here yesterday, and it's going to be even hotter today. Summer has definitely arrived with a bang.

Good news! Gas was down to 3.53 per gallon yesterday. Good thing, because my truck only gets 10 mpg around town. Why a truck, you ask. Because you can take the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl! emoticon

CANAUS, I am glad you have joined us over ont his thread! We do say about anything here and that is good since what ever it is we get things off our chest and it really helps us move on.

WOW! You are from Canada and live in Australia! Long trip for you! But I am sure it will be worth it. Depending on where in Canada your family is at we just might not be to far away since I live right on the northern edge of Indiana by Michigan.

As far as playing games on facebook will I watch my daughter play and she is hooked too!LOL I am way behing times as my Daughter would say since I am not on FB, she teases me that my Dad is but I am not. I told her when and if they ever get high speed in this area I will be on FB too but until that time I am on dail-up. Which is a bummer!

I too have 3 grown children but only one lives close. She is my rock and the one that teases me the most. But I would not trade her for anything. The other 2 ( 1 son & 1 daughter) are wortless or just about. Would work and figures the world owes then everything and they should not ahve to work. Wrong!

Lucky you to have a personal trainer! I have my Wii for a personal trainer. And believe me that can kick your tail too! I am glad you are getting out pedometer and walking. Thta is probably one of the easiest things to do to get moving and more fit. I walked my first 5K this month and I made it but thought I was not going to at times with the humidity here in Indiana.

Don't worry about being scatter brained at timeas we all are ! Bset wishes to a successful journey in this more healthier life style! And it is great to see you here and be able to get to know you!

Thanks for the warm welcome girls and the HUGS!! *S*
I sure can relate to the yo-yo dieting , come to think of it..it also describes my life, trying to have more ups and not so many downs. In the last month i have had a few positive changes (felt like i was spiralling out of control) I have been seeing a therapist for the last 3 weeks who is helping in a huge way. I also hired a personal trainer (that still makes me giggle) b/c it's not a ME thing. She comes once a week and pushes me to my limit. Has me doing stuff that i never thought i could do and yup i pay for it for the next 3-4 days after. Goal here is to get into a routine i will stay with and how to do the exercises properly, without injuring myself. I do have a pedometer and will start my walking again while at work, i have alot of spare time there and might as well take advantage of it and get those steps in. :)
Abit about me...I have 3 grown daughters who all live in Canada (home) and I am living in Australia. Just purchased a ticket to fly home in August to see my family and spend time with my grandkids. I am thrilled about it and already packed ready to go..lol I have been married for 11 years and living in Aus for 13, where has the time gone?
I spend way to much time on facebook but enjoy it and it tunes me out..lol It's where i keep in contact with my girls and friends from home and when i'm not chatting to them i play those darn addictive games...rolling my eyes!!
That's about it for now :)
Thanks again for the warm welcome and really looking forward to becoming healthy with you all!!
HUGS!!
P.S. if i sound scatter brained it's because i am...*grin*

Hi Canaus,
Here is another welcome & some BIG emoticon . Thanks for joining our little chat group. We are small but powerful emoticon . Someone will always be available to cheer you on or listen to a problem you may have. Occasionally we don't really want any advice, we just want to rant and that's ok too. If you have something you want to talk about that you would rather keep private you can always email one of us and I can assure you that you will get a reply. We talk about anything and everything and sometimes even nothing. Please feel free to bring up ANY subject you like. My name is Debbie. I'm 54, have one troubled daughter and two wonderful grandsons who all live with me. I've struggled with my weight most of my life. Up, down & up, down. I'm the typical yo-yo dieter. I am trying really hard to change me this time and not focus so much on my diet. Hopefully as I learn more about myself the weight will start to resolve on it's own, although I do realize that will take some effort on my part as well. I guess that's enough information about me for the time being. You will learn more about all of us along the way. Tell us about yourself. First name, where you are located. I'm in the South East end of Middle TN. We are all a little nutty here so beware and again welcome to the family.

Welcome Canaus!

Although I've only been here a few months myself, I can assure you this is a wonderfully supportive group. You can be open about how you are feeling and if you are having a bad day hugs will on their way to you.

As for improving health, the best advice I've been given is to get a pedometer and walk, walk, walk! I've felt better, slept better, and even started to lose weight by getting out and walking.

I hope your journey to health goes well. We will "walk" with you. Here's a hug for joining us.

Hi all,
The name of your group caught my attention. I was reading some of your posts and you all sound so down to earth.

I started back with SP last week and am determined to stick with it this time . There are a lot of areas in my life that i need to work on but I think the most important one is to get into a healthy lifestyle and hopefully the emotional side of things will follow. I do know when I eat healthy and exercise I can handle the anxiety/stress so much better, the problem I have is being consistent. Wait..that should be HAD!

Looking forward to getting to know you all! Cheers~~

Sorry to hear you are feeling down. I had a depression bout today as well. Just came out of no where. I feel better now though. Hope you are feeling better real soon. Just remember I am here for you and thinking about you. I will say a extra little prayer for you tonight. Hang in there. Together we can get through this and anything else that comes along. Love you Mary. Email me anytime. I check my mail a few times a day and will get back to you as quick as a wink emoticon

Debbie, No I have not talked to Nancy. But I do have her number right in front of me so maybe it is time to call her. But I do think I will wait until tomorrow since today is Father's day and she maybe celebrating with her family.

I got my launrdy done this morning and I am so glad it is done. I really don't mind doing it but going to the laundromat is the pits. I like to be able to do a load when I have one not waiting until I have a weeks worth and going to the launromat. I really dislike that place!

I got my first batch of parsley, sage & orgagno picked and in the dehydrator. I do like using fresh but like to have it all year long so I dry some of it and pick fresh when I need it. But it keeps me all winter plus I give lots away of the parsley. I got a bunch of chives picked and I froze that. Then when I need some I just chopped a bit off the froze. But we had fresh chives on the baked potatoes we had for dinner.

I hope everyones day was sunny and beautiful. I am heading for the shower then watch a movie and off to bed, Work tomorrow!

Quiet day here (when I'm not working, that's the only kind there is). A little later I have to do the laundry, and I'm going to do a new photo blog when I fix my braised brisket. Right now I just need some coffee.

"...there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."

"We're children of a fighting race that never yet has known disgrace." (The Soldiers' Song, Irish national anthem)

"Every day above ground is a good day." (Chef Justin Kennedy of New Orleans, on Chopped)

Thank You W.B.
It came during a difficult time for me several years ago. Seems I write better if I'm on the down side of the bi-polar. I used to try to write *poetry a lot, sometimes it was easy, but if I'm in a good mood not so easy. What's up with that? It really should be the other way around. Anyway thanks for taking the time to read it. It"s one of my favorites. I hope it touched you in a good way.

Vicki,
Sounds like you may have had a little fun playing try to beat the rain to and from the house and car. We got some here and it's looking like maybe again today. We will probably be wishing for it later on. P.S. Have you heard from Nancy? Is she ok? I think you said you guys talk on the phone sometimes and was just wondering if she is ok.

Debbie -

Your poem was very good! I liked the rhymth, rhyme and sentiment of it. Thank you for sharing it. You are right - we all want to blame outside sources for our failings - but each of us has something inside to help us overcome those failings. With God's grace all things are possible. emoticon
