I know how you feel! I live in the South, so everything is pretty much cooked with butter. And over the holidays my mom always makes candy.

It's funny, I definitely am able to get better on track with my exercise when I'm at home. I've been able to use the break as a kickstart for my running and workout schedule, and while I'm not eating quite as well as I'm able to at school, I'm eating ALMOST as well, and I'm happy about that. I just keep looking at this break as an opportunity to focus on myself instead of having to put schoolwork first, and it definitely makes break seem brighter :)

"At that moment I was sure. That I belonged in my skin. That my organs were mine and my eyes were mine and my ears, which could only hear the silence of the night and my faint breathing, were mine, and I loved them and what they could do."

I agree its tough! My parents are convinced I can't look after myself when I'm away and try and feed me up when I'm home. That along with the endless supply of junkfood my mum keeps in the house AND the extra for christmas is a deadly combination..

So because I knew this before I came home I didn't plan to try and lose weight over the holidays. The average person gains 5lbs over christmas anyway so I decided my goal would be to try to maintain my weight then pick back up with the healthy eating when I go back to school. As it happens I think I may actually have lost a couple of lbs! Just relax and don't go crazy then work hard in the new year :)

Me too!!!! Being back at my mom's house which is outside of town but near a huge high way.I don't feel like I CAN do anything here. And my mom does not have money to buy fresh produce or organic or anything, so here there is nothing but cheap processed crap really =S
It sucks! I WANT to be healthy but it is so darn difficult to do at home. I am def looking forward to going back to my apartment style dorm and being in control of what food I keep in the house.

All the advice I can give you is to just stay aware of what you are eating and the portions--- because soon enough you'll be able to get back to your usual routine. So don't beat yourself up over it emoticon

I own my home and live in the area my school is so my situation is different. However, I feel the same way when I am on break and just sitting around at home. I do much better when I'm working and going to school because I'm forced to plan my meals, pack them, and stick to a routine. The holidays are always tough, too.

The best thing for me to do is try my best to keep up my routine. I'm sure its harder when you go home to your parents; my mom puts a stick of butter in just about everything! Having your gym membership should help, too. Maybe even talking to your parents about how important this is too you and asking them to help curb temptation. Hope this helps!

I can do everything through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

I started sparkpeople (actually using it, I made my account long before) December 9th, and my winter break began on December 23rd. The weeks before heading home I had lost 1.4lbs and 3.2lbs respectively. Over break I am spending monday-thursday at my apartment at school and have been able to work out all of those days. My eating habits at school are fairly good because I am cooking only for myself, so I can make food that meets my nutritional needs. Being home is much harder; for starters it is the Holiday season and that means family gatherings and food that I haven't prepared myself. My second huge roadblock when it comes to being at home is the huge stockpile of soda that my parents always seem to have; so instead of having a cup of black coffee for my caffeine fix I have a diet soda or four. While we do have a stationary bike and a weight system at home I feel as though it's never a productive workout since I am not a fan of our equipment. While I did not gain weight over the week of christmas (I actually lost 0.2lbs), I feel as though if I was at school I would have done much better. As of Tuesday I signed up for a membership at anytime fitness, so now I will have access to an exercise facility with equipment I like within 5 minutes of my home. Does anyone else have this problem when they are home?
