I was a very slow loser. It took me 2 years to lose 50 lbs, then another couple of years to lose another 20.

I've lost 67 pounds in a little more than a year, or about a pound a week, pretty steadily. Spark People has been a great help to me along the way. I love the food and exercise tracker, and I love the community of friends all supporting each other. I dropped from size 20 jeans to size 10 jeans. I still find it hard to believe.

This has been a life long challenge for me and I've outlined it in my "JOURNEY" blogs on my page. Short version being I've been all the way up and all the way down every decade of my adult life. This time I refused to diet anymore and decided to live healthier. Lost by going on a maintenance diet averaging 2000 calories a day from the start. Most months losing 1-2 pounds. Yes, slow; but the focus was health, not weight loss. No one could be more surprised than I on where that's gotten me. I came to SP for help with maintenance; don't want to do this all again! Today my focus is on fitness. It's all about learning to make healthy choices and staying active. Tools are here. Slow and steady can win the race! emoticon emoticon

Great idea to lurk on the boards in preparation for reaching goal - and even better to join in openly!

We're all different, but I lost the weight fairly steadily - mostly before I found SP. I have yo-yo dieted throughout my adult life and have always had more of a problem in maintaining than losing. In fact, I've never maintained before now.

As I have got older the problem with fast weight loss is the effect on my skin which is no longer as elastic as it was. Losing too quickly can leave skin on the body that is too loose or a bit saggy. Going at a slower pace seems to give the skin time to adjust more. My skin is improving now but it has taken quite a while.

Let us know how you go on.

2lb a week seems sensible to me and lets the metabolism adjust as well as the skin.

I lurk here as support for thinking I can make it to my goal, but I'm not there yet. I often read newbies on other teams posts who start out with goals that require them to lose 2 lbs. a week. Though that is known as a moderate goal, I think it's actually still pretty fast. However, you are all the experts. So please share, if you will, how long it took you to get to goal and what that meant your average weight loss was per week. Did you get there in one stint? Did you get there in spurts over a period of years? Thanks for sharing! emoticon
