Your pets are beautiful. We have Morgan (my little Shih Tzu) pictured as my profile pic right now and Ed, our cat. We also have chickens and turkeys right now, but that's it. We raise a steer and some pigs from time to time...

Is there a connection between pet owners that have trouble controlling their weight having pets with the same condition??
I have two Shelties and two cats. Have always been a cat person with the first dog rescued 2 1/2 years ago and the other adopted as a pup just four months ago.
The house is now a zoo.............
pics are on my Spark page.

Be very careful and make sure he loses slowly. An overweight cat can get liver failure when losing too much weight too fast (cats and horses have this happen). I know this because we had an overweight cat who got sick, wouldn't eat and died from liver failure. The vet said it was because he lost too quickly.

I'd suggest continuing what you are doing. Maybe get some kind of laser to get him more active.

Thor is heavy too. My vet said to give him 1/3 cup a day and 3 tablespoons extra if he needs it, and he does. He's a diabetic and is on Purina dietetic food. for those with diabetes. He was on 1/2 a cup and didn't lose. But he is hungry so we are almost back to that amt. I know the diabetes makes him hungry. He weighs 18 pounds. The less he ever weighed when he was on a low fat food was 17.5. He is a big tabby. I know they can be heavier than other cats.

My vet is also concerned about Thor getting fatty liver disease. Sometimes they have a hard time getting his blood form his vein for his sugar blood test. emoticon

I have a cat that adopted us and she is so overweight I am concerned about her health. Any suggestions on how to put a cat on a diet? I feed her 1/8 cup of low fat Iams catfood three - four times a day. She goes outside a lot, but comes in hungry so I don't think she catching anything outdoors.

Your kitties are beautiful. We have a cat named Ed, who is 10 years old and a Shih Tzu named Morgan, who just turned 4. I know I have Morgan on my page, I'll have to check and get one of Ed on there too.

I'm new to this team and just read this post. I am sorry about Monty as I know how hard it is to see a beloved pet leave us. I lost 2 in two weeks in May. I had to have them both put to sleep. Tiger was 21, and had one tooth left! Snowball was an outside feral kitty who came to us to be fed for almost 2 years. He got into a fight and had to be put to sleep because the injuries were too severe. I won't go int the details, but is was awful.

We have a 5 year old Tabby named Thor(he's in the picture here). He is an insulin dependent diabetic and is a real trooper getting his shots twice a day. I give it to him whole he is eating at noon and midnight, and he stops eating and waits for the shot and goes right back to eating again.

I had a calico kitty names Taffy who lived to be 22 yrs. old. You can see all my kitties in my gallery.

Thanks for that! I did manage to dig the hole yesterday. Just as well it is peat, so the digging was easy, but I still have severe back/shoulder pain last night. He got buried with one of his beloved towels wrapped around him.

I had a sudden flash-back this a.m. to one of his "naughty" episodes. I had cooked sirloin steak for hubby and I, and I was eating mine. Hubby and walked out the room to do something, and he left his fork stuck upright in the middle of the steak. I just happened to look up and saw this grey streak flying through the lounge. Monty had jumped up, grabbed the steak, fork and all, and was taking off through the rancher slider with it. His ears were pinned back like he ALWAYS did when he was up to a bit of no good. The fork was also sticking upright still. Hubby came in just as Monty was exiting. He was right "p'd" off, then burst out laughing. He said he was really looking forward to the steak because we hadn't had any for a while, but Monty looked so funny that he couldn't deprive him. Hubby went "meatless" that night. We still laugh about it and that happened a couple of years ago.

As I wrote in your blog, I am so sorry about your Monty. It is so hard to see them going downhill and having to make that decision. Glad you have other pets-mine helped somewhat when I have lost a fur baby-but none can take the place of the one you lost.

I had to take my Monty for his last car ride yesterday. He was euthenased. The night before he tried going to the kitty litter, but he had trouble getting over the carpet - he couldn't retract his claws and they kept getting caught in the carpet, and his back half kept falling over, so I had to pick him up and take him. He had looked relatively interested in what was going on around him until day before yesterday - then he looked like he was sooooo tired. Poor little fella - I brought him home all tucked up in his basket. I didn't bury him yesterday because I waited for hubby to come home (on dark) so I will have to try to do that today. If I can't dig a hole (both shoulders with rotator cuff problems) then hubby will have to tonight. Our little dog and one of the other cats have been over to Monty a few times - and been quite gentle. It looked very sweet. The other cat has only just found out - she has just come back home.

I've seen pictures of your Morgan and she is precious. We just got a new addition, A 7 mo. old Mini poodle named Millie. My step daughter had her and couldn't keep her. We changed her name from Tweeny to Millie. And she had a hot pink hairdo that we are waiting for it to grow out. She is a good girl. I have gotten her some sweaters-she's so little. So that is 4 dogs now...lol. They all get along.
My dear Kota, the Aussie is overweight and on a diet. I feel so bad for him as he can hardly get around. Not just due to the weight. We just got a new vet and I don't know if she knows what she is doing. After over 10 years, our old vet just left--that was stressful since I take Kota often to the vets and she knew him well.

Sorry about your cat.

We have Ed, a cat who is 9. So far, he's in great health. He's a tabby that we got from the Humane Society.

We also have a Shih Tzu (female) named Morgan, who is my faithful companion. I take her everywhere with me. She's like a child - I even dress her up. I ride her in a basket on my bike and am known around town as the lady on the bike with the dog:)

We have 3 cats and a dog. One of the cats is in the process of dying from Cancer of the Spleen with Seconodaries on his liver. He is outside now at 2115hrs and it is DARK as out there. Only hope he can make it inside to die in the warm and dry.

MNNICE, you are being such a good Mom to Willow. I dread when the day comes for Morgan. She's such a sweet companion for me.

Morgan's about 2 lbs overweight right now. She's so inactive! I know it doesn't sound like much, but she should be around 10 lbs. and is 12 lbs. On her, it's a big difference. We're trying to take her for more walks and keep her from snacking so much. Whenever something falls on the floor, she comes out of nowhere to scarf it down!

She gets only 1/4 cup of food 2 times a day. I hate to cut it back more, but maybe I'll have to.

Sanjji, my boss's family cat Merlin needed to be put on a "diet" too. They can only feed him about 1/4 c. at a time, 3 times a day, otherwise he will eat the whole thing and look for more. For exercise, they have a little laserbeam pen and they play a game where he chases the beam of light. My Willow is still with us but so weak and sleeping most all the time.

We had to put our cat, Emma, on a diet. She weighs 18.6 lbs!!!! The vet put her on a low fat food, and she's doing very well on it. She's just so darn lazy!!LOL! We can hardly get her to go outside (she's allowed in the garden, but not to roam free). I don't think she was outside much before we had her. She has learned to use her pet door though...so she can come in and go out at will. So hopefully as the weather warms up, she'll want to go out more and more, and get some excercise. We're not the only ones who need to watch our weight, although our pets don't care do they. I wouldn't want Emma to get diabetes.

My 3 are all like that, not wanting to miss a trick..lol. The new med and Kota's weight loss diet seems to really be helping him. He hasn't been chewing his feet and he was rolling on his back this morning...lol, all 118 pounds of him. He is a honey too :-)

She is hanging in there. Was up and roaming around the house this morning, doing her ritual of kicking open all the bedroom doors and checking things out before going outside. Just doesn't want to miss a trick as to what is going on around here! LOL Is quite alert this morning but so weak and wobbly. She is a honey, for sure.

I have spent the last 4 or 5 days comforting my little princess Willow. She is 15 and in her last days now. I am glad she is not ill or in pain or distress -- justs quietly refusing food, sleeping alot. So we just spend lots of time holding and petting her and keeping her comfortable. She tries to be so good still - even as weak as she is, she gets up when she needs to go outside. All the comfort she has given me through the years and now it's time for me to comfort her. Sad days ....

We took our 2 dogs, Bo and Kota for their shots yesterday. Kota, our Aussie also had 3 cysts to be aspirated. 2 were fine but the third one was hard and she was unable to get anything from it. She needs to remove it and said Kota isn't a good candidate for surgery as he is so overweight.
Bo is also about 15 pounds overweight. I figured out the cups of food they should be eating and they are on a weight loss diet starting today. I am just hoping Kota doesn't have anything. Cisco had Cancer and I couldn't handle that emotionally again. Kota is such a love. His nickname is Angel, he is such a good dog.

I bought Kota an alternative herb blend in capsule form for his allergies. It is for dogs. He has been on it 2 weeks and I do notice some improvement. I was able to cut his nightly prednisone in half, so he is only getting 5 mg. I tried 1/4, but he wasn't tolerating it.

Hope you are feeling well.
Love and hugs, Von

I LOVE the new icon, Von! He's laughing!

Zola used to love raw carrots, but now she only wants them cooked!

When I was cooking for her every day, I used to give her lots of veggies with her chicken, too. But she does surprise me when she wants broccoli or zucchini! But squash rather than salmon? Man...

Hi Sue! That is so cute!

My mom sees my dogs eat apples, carrots and bananas and she is always amazed. I use them for treats too Nancy.

Morgan always wants my veggies. She LOVES green beans and carrots. I use them for her as "treats".

When I have my garden growing, I have to keep her out of the green beans. She eats them raw right off the bush!

Cute story:)

I had a doggie tale I have to tell...
Zola, our wolfhound, is usually really well behaved.
Usually...

I was rushing around cooking and trying to fix dh's dinner for work and thermos. We were going to sit and watch Law and Order in the bedroom during our meal. I fixed a healthy meal of grilled salmon filet, sugar snaps and carrots, and some spagetti squash. Nothing fancy. Just spritzed with butter spray and a sprinkle of Mrs Dash on everything.

Well, instead of putting my plate down on the tray, I just set it down on top of the computer case and went back to the kitchen to finish packing up his work meal.

I came back in to find Zola daintily eating from the edge of my plate. I assumed my salmon was gone.

Wrong! She never touched that! She was stealing my spagetti squash! And she ate almost half of it, too! I guess she missed me cooking for her!

Oh well she got a good healthy dinner tonight!

Hi Von!
I am surprised but Zola seems to be doing ok now. She was really sad and clingy a couple of days but she is now back to her usual playful cheery self. I am thankful for that.
One thing that surprised us is that Ronnie's allergies are better. We didn't realize he was allergic to the cat. His allergies were not too bad but he feels so much better that I guess we won't be getting another cat after all. emoticon
But I am glad he feels better. I just miss having a cat.

I have been offline for almost a week. Our router went out.

Thank you so much for your kind words.
We really miss Kia, but because she has been sick for so long and because of the behavior changes she went through due to brain damage from the fevers, I realized that I've been mourning her for most of the years she's lived with us. She would do things, bite or act angry and attack someone or something, and then you could see her "come to" and shake her head and feel sad and embarassed. I wonder if she had some sort of seizures making her do that?
She was the most wonderful cat, before.

Sue,

I'm so sorry about your kitty. I know it must be hard on you, your hubby and Zola. Morgan is really attached to our cat, Ed and I know she'd miss him terribly if something happened to him.

Hope you are doing ok.

I am so sorry Sue. That has to be really hard for you, Ron & Zola. You are such a good furbaby Mom and knowing you, you did everything you could. But it is a sad time. Just remember the good times before she became real sick. I had to look up FIV as I wasn't sure what it was. But it being an immune disease like HIV in humans is amazing she made it this long. I am sure you nursed her through many illnesses.

Did you post on the dog lovers team yet? They are always so wonderful about losing a pet and they have the rainbow bridge. I know you know about Dogster. But they have Catster too. Maybe make a memorial page.

You know I am here if you need to talk.

Yes, Von. I'm VERY angry that the FDA has known for four years, and has not done anything at all, and they are running those horrible commericals saying how HFCS is as safe as sugar!

I haven't talked about it, because we are still upset... but Ron had our cat, Kia, put down today. Apparently she had another abcess, and when I touched her, she bit me again. She was apparently FIV positive when we got her, and she's been ill several times and had a horrible personality change. We've spent thousands on her before finding out she had FIV and probably was born with it. The new vet did not put her down, then, because she said she wasn't *that* sick. I wish she had of, really, because the quality of her life was not great in the years since, and she's just gotten worse. I have no idea why that stupid vet we had before never checked her like I asked him to when we first took her in. I think she had brain damage from the fever? She hasn't been a real pet for years. But when she was, she was wonderful.

But yes I miss her, and I miss the cat she was before she was sick - and I loved her and nursed her through so many illnesses, even though she'd changed so much. I don't blame Ron for not wanting to go through more with her. She's really been a difficult animal to be around, ever since. She just could not control what she did sometimes.

Now I worry because Zola was obsessed with Kia. They were very close, in some ways. In cohorts, more like... and Zola is miserable.

So we are going to be having to discuss if we should get another kitten or puppy, and soon, because Wolfhounds apparently should never be the only pet, or they get too depressed. They are highly social and Zola can't really be left alone without a lot of anxiety if we got out to shop or anything.

Allergies are hard to deal with, in pets or for ourselves or our children.
My sister's dog had horrendous allergies. I felt so sorry for her.

Ugh... I really hope we don't go through this again with the Melamine or anything else, but I'm always watching what our dogs, and we, eat, now.

Did you guys hear of the mercury in the HFCS? at least a third all have mercury contamination because mercury is involved in the processing. The FDA has known for four years and still has not done anything. And now they have these commercials out about how it is as safe as sugar!

Much High Fructose Corn Syrup Contaminated With Mercury, New Study Finds

Brand-Name Food Products Also Discovered to Contain Mercury

Minneapolis – Mercury was found in nearly 50 percent of tested samples of commercial high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), according to a new article published today in the scientific journal, Environmental Health. A separate study by the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) detected mercury in nearly one-third of 55 popular brand- name food and beverage products where HFCS is the first or second highest labeled ingredient—including products by Quaker, Hershey’s, Kraft and Smucker’s.

Hi Nancy,
My Kota has all kinds of allergies. We had his blood checked and he is allergic to all of the things I am allergic to also. I did allergy shots with him every 4 days for 13 months then quit-he is doing better without the allergy shots. But gaining weight with the 10mg pred I give him every night. His allergies are really severe --it's a shame. Throughout the day I was his feet and add ointments, also his ears. And of course baby him.

I remember the last melamine recall...that was awful. My neighbor called me to help her give her cat dialysis since I was a nurse she said. She ended up dying anyway. Sue and I go back way before I had any teams. We met on the Dog Lovers Team and were constantly looking for updates for our furbabies.

Have a great day Nancy!

I remember Sue. And I switched mine from pedigree to blue buffalo and it was recalled! We were posting everyday at the Dog lovers Team.....Hope this doesn't get that bad for the dogs this time. Mine are now on beneful.

I was just reading that sometimes the dogs don't get sick that they carry the bacteria around with them and can infect people. But if they do get sick the signs and symptoms are bloody diarrhea.

Morgan gets Solid Gold Wee Bits food, the dry kind. I fed her a BARF diet for awhile, loved it, but I didn't like that she wanted to rub her face on my carpet where the grandbabies were crawling around. I just couldn't stand it.

She is allergic to chicken, so this is a good food for her. So far, no recalls on the dry. The canned was recalled a few weeks ago.

I am still so paranoid that we are feeding Flint River in addition to cooking for Zola. She is finally healthy, too! I am so thankful that I stopped feeding her that Science Diet puppy chow in time.

Hi Cindy,
Sounds like your pups are precious!

I grew up with a Pomeranian. Her name was Pepper. We had her till she was about 17 years. I still think of her after all these years.

Afghans are so pretty with their long hair. Bet you are constantly grooming with the 2 of them. I know I am just with my Australian Shepard & 2 corgi's.

Thanks for sharing your pets with us!

Before Morgan, we had Golden Retrievers, truly lovable people pleasers that had totally different personalities than Morgan. She's a diva and lives to be pampered. But our lifestyle is different now and we wanted a more compact pet that didn't shed so much and could travel with us. The Golden Retrievers were outside dogs because dh didn't like the shedding. I am so sold on my little Shih Tzu and can't imagine what I'll do without her - I can't even think about it!

I've always had shih tzus. The one closest to my heart was my Levi. He was 17 1/2 years old and passed away last month. I miss him so much! I also have a chihuahua/shih tzu mix that our daughter bought for us after Levi's brother, Peanut, died two years ago. This is a crazy, crazy dog. He's more chihuahua than shih tzu. He keeps us on our toes, that's for sure.

She woke up one morning and threw away all her excuses...

Oh Von... yes, Nancy is right. Those nipples aren't a sure sign she's pregnant. It probably is just from being in heat. Still... if you don't want to risk her having the pups at her age, you might as well go ahead and get her spayed now. It would be easier on her if it is early. I am sure Katie will be ok. The vet will take good care of her. I have had to do that once before in the past, when I had a very small pekinese get pregnant by a very big Hound. Don't ask me how they managed but they did! I caught them tied! Oh boy! That scared me!

She wasn't very far along but the vet said it was one enormous pup and she would not have done well with pregnancy with one so huge, if she had gone into labor.

Zola got spayed at 11 weeks and is ok, though frankly I think that is waaaaaaaaaay too early.

I did post the following in my blog, and on the Dog team, but I figured that it might make someone smile. Zola sure makes us smile! She's so funny!

Zola, our Irish Wolfhound, is just part of the family. My son Raud, (who has Autism), is doing the exercises with me twice a day, and we both do Walk Away The Pounds indoors more often than walking outside.

Zola isn't left out of our walks, then, either. She loves it when we exercise and when she hears us she runs into the room, grabs her biggest bone, (which is gigantically brontosaurus-sized to match our giant baby), and starts jumping off and on the couch with it. Sometimes she stands and moves her head up and down with the bone in her mouth, like she's lifting weights! She's a riot! And she loves exercising with us every day! She looks like she's smiling the whole time.

The nipples are due to the heat, she'd not be far enough long in a pregnancy yet to have them from being pregnant.

Hope it turns out well. Let us know - poor thing!

Hi Nancy,
I love Golden Retrievers! My Megan was a Golden and we lost her at just 6 years of age due to renal failure. She was such a sweet heart. She use to smile real big and her side teeth would show!

I thought that too about the tie, but I didn't know what it was called. I don't think it happened. She has nipples now that she didn't have before--could that be due to the heat? They are just slighly more protruded than she was before. She is not swollen at all just a slight protusion of each one.
I bought her pants and when they were washing she had a little jumpsuit I made out of one of my tank tops and also underwear with suspenders. I really tryed to keep her away from him. She would go in the crate when we went out.

I am so worried about her as she is just a little thing. I don't know if she could handle pups or handle the operation to be spayed right now if there is alot of blood loss. I just have to watch her.

Thanks again to both or you.

Von,

We used to breed Golden Retrievers. How long were the dogs together? When a male breeds a female, it's called a "tie". They need to be tied together for several minutes for a successful breeding. Your little girl is probably fine, unless they were together when no one saw them and your hubby came upon them at the end.

There is no test at the vet's for pregnancy in dogs. They can do an x-ray when she is further along.

Let us know.

Ha...well, with menopause, might as well have fun with it!

I hope your pup is back to herself in no time no matter what direction you go. You are right, I think it would take more than a yell to seperate two lovin' pups. For the male especially! He probably yelled just as things were about to get started! Let's hope anyway.

Please keep us posted!

You are so funny Lynn...lol!! I know what menopause is like all the time...lol. I just tell people it's altzheimers!

Thanks for the info. The vet told the secretary that the time to do the spaying is now if I think she is pregnant...I don't know if she is....don't they have a doggie test? Geesh...Before that the vets other resceptionist told me they lose alot of blood and the vet usually recommends 5-8 weeks after their heat. So I don't know which to go by. Either way her health is in jeopardy. I will watch her close for any signs of pregnancy and go from there. It was my hubby that said they got together. He doesn't know if they connected or not...Men! I would have looked. He yelled though and they separated. If they were doing it I don't think they could have separated.

Thanks for listening Lynn and for making me laugh....you are a hoot!!!

VON... I had a somewhat similar experience with my former beagle, Roxy. She went into heat a couple of weeks before her spay appt. so we had to wait a few weeks after the heat to do it. I had to watch her closely and keep her with me at ALL times outside so no male would jump her. When it came time to do the spaying, the vet said he found "infectious piles" in her uterus from the heat. He said for dogs, this is a false pregnancy so her body was producing hormones as though she was pregnant. Untreated, she would have died since it was an infection. She was on antibiotics after the surgery but he said she would lactate since her body thought it had delivered puppies. Sure enough, I'd pick her up and find puppy milk on my arm. She recovered nicely in spite of it all.

I feel like I just told this story to someone so if I'm repeating myself on here...this is what menopause is like! LOL!

Bo got neutered today and seems to be doing pretty good. He's hormones will take a while to calm down though. Katy is still in heat and is dear as ever. The vet said that if I think she is pregnant the best time to do it is now-spay her. But they also told me it is more dangerous as she will lose alot of blood. She is so tiny I don't think she has any to spare! So I am going to watch her and see.

I received this in an e-mail and thought these puppies are precious! I could watch them all day!
Von
-----------------------
I saw a story about this on the Today Show.
This camera is set up to watch a batch of 6 puppies
- 3 boys and 3 girls - 24 hours a day. They are 5 weeks old.

I figured I'd forward it on because sometimes,
if you're feeling stressed or whatever, it's good to
look at some puppies.

Here is a picture of Katie (Miss Katie Bug Hepburn). We got
her when she was 11 weeks and she is 7 months old. She is a

Thanks for your concern Gunnefort it is greatly appreciated. As for the colonoscopy the prep sucks! But I made it through and found out I have diverticulosis. I also am going to have to have a endoscopy where they go down your throat to see some other problems I am experiencing. What fun! lol

Glad you're doing alright Mickey. How did your colonoscopy go? I really don't like the prep for those. I had one last year and was up all night vomiting....yuck!

My Cisco 13 1/2 years passed away with Cancer in March. In the last 5 years we had to let go of 3.
Megan,6 1/2 yrs our golden retriever, passed away with renal failure.
And Pepi 17 1/2 years my long haired Chihuahua passed away. I had him in diapers for 2 years as he was incontinent of urine.

Each one of these was like my child and I thought I was prepared but I still miss them.

We have an apricot toy poodle named Willow. She's getting old (almost 14), but is in good health and still has spurts of "friskiness", although they are shortlived! She's spoiled rotten, but deserves it! Willow has always been a very smart and trainable pet. My daughter has an apricot miniature poodle named Tater who is 2 years old and loves to come visit and "torture" Willow. They act like they hate each other, but when they think no one is watching they can be caught cuddling.

Mickey: I am so sorry and I know exactly how you feel. Over my many years of multiple pet ownership, I have had to have a beloved kitty put down all too often. I guess it comes with pet ownership, but it leaves such an aching hole in your home. I'll be thinking of you.

Having a pet escape is horrible. I have two indoor Siamese cats. My dear hubby will occasionally leave a door ajar, and they will of course want to explore this huge new room. I usually find out quickly and round them up.

I have had cats all my life. I tried to have a dog once, but it didn't work out. I like to bring a new kitten home, place her in a litter box, then I do whatever she wants me to do. For the rest of her life. I am no good at training a dog, just too permissive. I can't even remember his name, but he was a beagle and we had to give him away because I had let him get too uncontrollable, which is what cats are supposed to be.

I have a cat that is 10 years old named Ed. He's an indoor kitty and loves to cuddle. I also have a 3 year old (tomorrow) Shih Tzu named Morgan that is pictured with me here. My family got her as a gift for me. She's my first indoor dog and I have to confess I treat her like a child, dressing her up and I take her everywhere with me. She goes on bike rides with me and when I take walks, I carry her in a little backpack.

So glad you found poor Levi. I can't imagine how frantic you were.

I LOVE to talk about my pets!!
I posted earlier that I have two dogs -- Levi is 17 1/2 years old, and Jackson is 2 years old. My daughter got Jackson for us after Levi's brother died at the age of 15. Poor Levi is mostly deaf and mostly blind. His sense of smell is not what is once was, and most of his teeth have fallen out. But he is happy and pretty healthy. He has arthritis, but it's not horrible. Last February we thought we'd lost him. I had the flu and was flat on my back in bed with a 104* fever. Someone let Levi out of the house, and I had no idea he was outside. My husband noticed him missing the following morning -- when we woke up to an ice storm! I started crying, thinking our poor puppy had frozen to death in the ice. We've had him since the day he was born, and he has had a wonderful, fulfilling, very loved life. I cried and could not be comforted. I was too sick to go out and look for him. Our daughter came over with friends, and they looked for him. My niece looked for him. My sisters looked for him. My husband looked for him. He was nowhere to be found. By Monday (4 days later) I was finally well enough to talk to the dogcatcher's wife. I told her if anyone finds a missing black shih tzu, please call. The following day some city employees were around the corner reading a water meter, and they found him down in the water meter hole! They knocked on the door of that house (a block and a half from home), and the woman said she had no idea whose dog he was. But she took him in and wrapped him in a blanket, and she fed him some roast beef. He was dirty and smelly and very cold. She called the dog catcher's wife, and she turned around and called our daughter at work. Our daughter didn't want to get my hopes up, so she didn't call me to tell me. Around noon she came walking in our house with my dirty, smelly baby wrapped in a blanket. I started crying all over again!! He had survived the single digit temps, he had survived the ice, he had survived no food/water -- for 5 days!! I gave him a bath, and the following day I took him to the vet. He had a little stomach distress, but other than that, he was fine!!

Here's a pic of Levi and a pic of Jackson. We love them.

I noticed today so many of you have pets; Dogs, cats etc. I thought this thread could be a nice place to talk about our pets. Mine are a part of our family and help my husband meet his fitness goals everyday.

Pets can help you not only with your fitness goals but also emotional ones and they are just great to be around.

A Team on SP that is really great is the dog lovers Team. One of our members Jeane (Hickok-Haley), is one of their leaders. I have been a member there since joining Sparks, but met Jeanne when my Bassett Hound Cisco went to rainbow bridge in March.

So, let's talk about our pets here. Even post links to pictures.
