I've actually been spending too much time on sparkpeople so I'll do timed chore bursts and timed Internet bursts. Also, when I'm nursing the toddler.

Great idea. That puts you in the same company as Ben Franklin. I believe he used a goal a week idea when trying to change a bad habit.

Oakborn, I knit at night to stop the snacking too sometimes, it works for me since I don't want to dirty my hands while I'm knitting, and it's a good, productive distraction!
I think you could also use this strategy to build a good habit as well.

I have been very inactive on this team, but this thread really struck a chord! I am an evening snacker and I need to kick that habit. I like the idea of structuring the self denial until the craving goes away. I am also planning on subbing in knitting and water for the chips and other munchies I so adore in the evenings.
Each day got through means one or two less mistakes remain to be made (Chess)

Just wanted to pass along something that I do to kick bad habits. It really has worked for me.
I pick a bad habit every week to kick until I kick it. I can usually do this in two weeks.
What I do is choose one bad habit such as ice cream. I will fast from ice cream Mon - Fri. Eat what I want of it on Saturday and Sunday. I fast it again on Monday - Friday. By this time my mind is realizing that I really don't need the ice cream so the cravings for it goes away.
I then again pick another bad habit to fast.
