Hi all... I am 3 wks post hip surgery and doing really good, I think. I see my OS at 5 wks... I think he is planning on sending me for pre-op and have my second done a week later... that would be 6 weeks apart. Right now I am a bit apprehensive because I see how much I rely on my reg leg to pivit and support the new hip. I am getting better by the day so maybe in 2 more weeks I will think my leg can support the new hip leg...at 6 wks. We shall see...

Thanks OzarkMary! Per my OS I have to wait 6 mos, then he'll evaluate for surgery on the second. I am SO looking forward to that!

Hello Varina and Kevin! I had both done but had to wait 3 mos between per OS. I'm doing great but have spinal issues (degenerative bone disease and spinal stenosis which sounds worse than it is) so, I have a slight limp now. Maybe that's what your OS meant Kevin. I don't even care, just so thrilled that the pain is gone!!! Gotta love replacement parts! Have a wonderful active Sparkweek!
Hello to all the rest of the team.

I am old hat here at Spark, but new to hip replacement... I have my right hip surgery scheduled for Feb 7th... then the left done. My OS didn't mention a scheduling for the second. Guess it depends on how well I do with the first one?
So glad to see this team is here. Hope to get to know you all. I have a girlfriend who had her hip replaced last year. I kinda know what to expect.. hopefully NO MORE PAIN!!!

Hi Kevin.....glad you did so well after your surgeries. One thing I find very amusing is that when talking with OS they almost always compare the body like a car :-)It is one thing that most of us understand.

Kevin, glad to hear you did well with both surgeries.
Possibly that was me that was mentioned .... I had mine done 6 weeks apart. That might have been somewhat aggressive scheduling, but it worked out good. In fact my OS recommended not waiting too long, because when one is healing and the other is in need of repair, your body tends to "compensate" which causes additional problems.
Think of like your car - you would not have the brakes redone on one side of the car then wait a long time to have the other side done. They need to work together.
Good luck.
Kevin

Varina, I was looking at your blogs. You seem to have made good progress. I read your husband had to deploy or something when you were 3 days post op! I'd be interested in how you did then - were you on your own at home? I haven't had replacement yet and that part worries me, since I live alone.
Anyway, You seem to have done well. I'd say your next replacement would be based on the amount of pain you have from that hip and maybe some advice from your doctor.
I wish you well! Keep us informed here. Even though the team is often quiet, I know that many, likeme, read whatever is posted here. We're all in this together, if we've have or have had bad hips!

I can't give you any advice since I haven't had the other hip done, but I always said I wouldn't give it a second thought to do it. I think one person on here only waited a month or two.....I could be wrong. Hope you get your answer.
