I was fitted Saturday for my second pair of running shoes. New Balance WR860BS is the final decision. One of the main reasons is no seams over my bunion area. I did try the Asics A-2160 which is now available and very much like my first pair of A-2150,but the New Balance definitely are better for the bunions. I tried 3 different orthotic inserts for my high arch, but stayed with the same one, the Aetrex Lunco Orthotics L405.

Every time I look at running shoe advice, it seems to say "go to a running shoe store and get professional help", but I live in a small town, so this is not possible.

I know that I have moderate over pronation (you can tell by looking at the wear on the soles of your shoes), and I weigh 225, so I need cushioning. I use these as my guidelines and buy either Nike or New Balance about every 6 months.

I am "tight" with money, but I don't skimp on running shoes. It's not worth it to risk injury! My last pair of Nike's were 135.00 or so (I forget the model).

I have to buy my running shoes online exclusively. No one carries size 14. I like Zappos.com because I can order a couple of sizes and return the ones that don't fit free!

Jeff

My shoes are asics - GT 2150. I was fitted at FitNiche, a great running store here in central Florida. I also bought the recommended orthotic by aetrex. FitNiche analyzed my running on a treadmill and a couple other ways, too.

I started with Nike Air Span 5's, now I'm in Pearl Izumi's and absolutely love them... I have huge motion control issues, along with flat feet. They work for me really well, don't plan on changing anytime soon.

Asic Gels and Brookes Adrenaline. emoticon I have wide feet and need good support and cushioning (especially heels) so these seems to work well for me.

Merrell Pace Gloves on rocky or thick gravel trails, $7.00 water shoes from Walmart for everything else in the summer. Sheepskin mocassins with rubber soles in winter.
Minimalist shoes work great for me.

I wear both stability and cushioning - I run neutral in either with custom orthotics. I have mostly Brooks & Asics, although I do have a pair of Mizumos.

I love my Nike Free 7.0 shoes! I've been using them for over a year now (not the same pair, have replaced them LOL)

I have only been running for a year and a half, but I started with New Balance and will stay with them until I find a reason to change. I'm currently running in the 730 model. I am rotating between two pairs with a planned replacement at around 500 miles or so for each pair.

I wear a neutral cushioned shoe. I like Nike Pegasus and Nike Zoom Vomeros. My wife wears Saucony ProGrid Guide TR 3. She rants that Nike makes terrible shoes. She says I just like the swoosh and paying huge money for shoes. As runners, we just wear what works.

i wear the Asics gels--they give good support and last well. i had the Pearl Izumi, which i loved, but the design of the heel doesn't last for me because of the way i hit on the outside of my heel.

I always wore Mizunos for a neutral strike. Switched to Merrell Pace Gloves this year (minimalist) and, after some adjustment, love them.

I use Nike Free Run+ . . . been pretty happy with them, although I may try some of the other more minimalist shoes that are out next time I replace them. That's a big change from the heavy motion control shoes I started in, but I love how light and flexible they are.

Asics Gel Kayano's for the past year and a half....although I am contemplating having my running form looked at after the two half marathons that I will be running this fall. I would like a lighter shoe, but I want to see what is happening with my pronation and I have been working at changing my foot strike so it is more forward and less at the heel. We'll see how much progress I make.

I wear the nike vomero 4. I wear it because it has plenty of cushion and I am a heavier runner. Also it has a wide toe box. I have square toed feet. Well actually my second toe is a little bigger than my big toe. I am narrow in the ankle also. This shoe fits me and it is soft and fairly flexible.

I think we are all familar with opening up a Runnersworld Magazine and reading the shoe reviews. If you were a newbie, it would seem pretty clear cut which shoe and what type you should use.
AHA! THAT IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE. Take me for example, I have feet flatter than Fred Flinstone and my toes are webbed. You would think I would wear a Motion Control Shoe. But I don't. I wear the Mizuno Enignma which is a Nuetral shoe. Why? Because I do not pronate and I am a forefoot striker with very nice running form.
What about you? What shoe and type do you wear and why?
