Jeff,

Pick up a copy of the August edition of Runner's World and there is a great article on running in the heat...even features a race in Dallas called the Texas Hottest Half.

Coincidentally, I got an email about running in hot weather today, so I'll share it. It covers what everyone has mentioned below, but also gives symptoms of heat stroke and the like to watch out for.

Plan on being slower and just accept it. If you feel overheated then stop and walk. Other than staying hydrated not too much you can do. I also find that on long runs I will take some gaterade at the end or near the end. It helps with numbness in my hands. I wear a water wicking bondi band and a baseball hat. The hat keeps the sun off my face and the bondi band keeps the sweat out of my eyes.

I have to say though that I am a wimp when it comes to humidity. If it gets really humid I have to run on the mill at the gym.

get good wicking running clothes. i run at noon and it's VERY hot, but the wicking fabric really does help. you still sweat like crazy, but you don't get as wet, which sounds kinda gross, but it really works. make sure you listen to your body and don't get overheated, because that's a lousy way to start your day!

It is regularly in the mid to upper 80s heat index where I live at 5:30am when I run. I carry water for my runs, but I'm wondering about any wisdom from the team for dealing with the heat.
