I bought some Yaktrax two weeks ago and didn't have a chance to try them until yesterday. It was in the single digits (at least it was above zero!) but there was not much wind so I ended up running a lot farther than I would have on the treadmill and I think the fresh air and sun helped my mood!

I can see that the Yaktrax will keep me outside now and that's great!!

Slow, 12 min. pace, and short, 3.5 miles, but went well in our 'cold' 31 degrees.
I'm liking doing a 5/1.

I had a great 6 mile run with friends that I use to run with before my IT band injury. I've slowed down alot but they didn't so, the pace was challanging for me and that felt really good. It was about 38 degrees and the first time I've run outside in the cold. That felt really good too!

Frustrating! After spending a week on the couch with a flu-like bug, I was so excited to finally recover and get an easy 4 mile run in the morning. I figured with a week off of running, the IT band should feel pretty good. Wrong! I still did my 4 miles in 43 minutes but had to take lots of walk breaks. Then it occurred to me that I didn't stretch nearly enough after all that sitting/laying around. At one of my recent races, there was a Chiro there that said he could "cure" the IT band issues in 4 visits. I'm going to give him a shot - 4 visits anyway. So tired of dealing with this. Ok, enough whining from me..looking forward with focus on stretching and strength training this week (and gluing my foam roller to my IT Band haha!).

Not including the obvious deer, squirrel, etc., I've seen fox, raccoon, possum, wild turkeys and buzzards. The only coyotes that I've encountered, I've encountered while driving.

As for my run yesterday, the weather was hot and humid but wasn't as bad as it had been.

Hey everyone!

Had a good run today, pretty hot and humid even at 5:30 a.m. - but ran into a critter situation! I live in a medium size town, and pretty much in the middle of town - and saw something smallish- furry- dark! I have seen possums before, but it wasn't that - nor a cat or dog. I thought a skunk or porcupine!? What critters have you encountered running, and what did you do?

Just remember one thing son, no one ever lends money to a man with a sense of humor.

Ditto on the hot and humid, but I ran as late as I could (and still finish before dark). Didn't expect much but turned out to be a pretty decent run. Maybe it's all about the expectations you have before you take that first step?!

9.03 miles was a pretty ok run - at least it was dry! I think I have figured out why I get such pain in my forefoot when on long runs - I think I am striking a little flat footed. When I concentrate on striking heel first - I don't have the pain! or at least it diminishes.

Good job Runner. Nice pace, especially for that distance. My runs lately are so dependent on the weather. If it is hot and humid they range from crappy doodle (to borrow Coach Nancy's term that is sweeping SP!)to almost mediocre. They must be helping though because on the rare decent days we have, my runs have been fantastic. My most recent run last night was the first in heat/humidity that was good. Just a 3-miler, but the first mile and-a-half I did in just over 11 minutes (which is blistering for me!). Couldn't quite sustain it though and finished at 23:00. I am pleased with that result. Is it possible that just training in this heat and humidity produces good results?

We are already hitting triple digits here in Texas, couple that with the humidity and direct/radiant heat and boy howdy, this is gonna be one tough marathon training season. Training times will be way down, BUT it will come back as a blessing come October when it's time to run...I am heading out for a 10 miler...

HAPPY SPARK RUNNING!

Off today, long run tomorrow but my tempo run yesterday we so difficult because of the HEAT and HUMIDITY! The weather is killing my times! I am going to switch to "perceived effort" tempo run when it is this hot of I just get really discouraged. My fellow running club member and iron man finisher says that is what he does too. He calls it a "no look" run and just checks his garmin in the end after doing the best he can in the heat. I am also having some ankle issues and I am convinced if I dropped 20 pounds they would stop...working on it. emoticon

Runnerat50: nice run! Good job with knowing when to push yourself, and when to scale back a bit.

Speedydog: too speedy? :) hope your injuries are soon healed.

Had a good jog last night --- I've been off my routine the past 2 weeks. Our 16yr old daughter had surgery out of town so I've not been running and I knew last night would need to be a slow run.

Nice job Runnerat50! Very nice pace!

I like to run on trails where I live in Colorado. Today I lost my concentration and tripped over a rock. I took a chunk out of my left hand and left knee. I kept running but not very fast.

Well, I've been a bit sore for a couple of days but I'm hoping to increase my mileage. I might do a half marathon in October. It's my club's HM so if I don't run it I'll be volunteering. I ran a HM in March. I just have to be careful to not overtrain.

Nancy - I forgot you're doing Chicago again.

My run was crappy doodle today since it was non-existent. I came home with a headache and that draggy feeling that only us women can enjoy! Not to mention the thunderstorm that hung around for awhile. Sometimes the storms alone will send me into a coma. I'm not sure why - maybe a drop in barometric pressure. Anyway, plan to try again tomorrow - only a quick 3 miler since I have a 2 mile ocean swim planned for Saturday morning and a 6 or 7 miler for Sunday morning.

Good job on your run Runner!

I am gearing up for marathon training...officially I was to start this week, although I have been training for a 1/2 marathon that I will be running on the 26th so I am a little ahead of the curve, but come next month the mileage will start to climb.

GREAT job on the run today!

HAPPY SPARK RUNNING!
Nancy

Mine was great! I have been trying to improve my speed (to become a faster turtle). My last few long runs I've started out faster than my norm and then had to slow way down in the second half. Today, I set a less ambitious goal of 13-minute miles and was able to sustain the pace for 8 miles.

Anyone else aiming to go farther &/or faster?
