I have some tongs with silicone tips meant for using with non-stick pans and they work for turning the knobs off. I still have to stretch to the back of the stove to turn burners on which isn't a problem.
I visited a neighbor's apartment this morning and discovered that her stove has front controls. I think I can get the "landlord" to change the stove in this apartment, especially since on my applications I stated that I needed accommodations for my disabilities. I don't have any problems with the rest of the kitchen for the moment. But now I know that there are "handicapped" apartments in this building and I was told there weren't. So I will be able to get some things changed for my needs.
Tomorrow my daughter is taking me up to the old house to bring more things down. She asked me today what things I still need to get down here and I read off the list I've made. She was very surprised that I had made a list and that the list was so comprehensive. I know there are things that I will not be able to bring down now or ever, but I want to get what I can down here as soon as possible. I have the sense that my things are not safe up there.
I have been shopping for needed items on Amazon and I found a gate leg table that is similar to one I got right after we moved to Ashford. It will be perfect for my current apartment. I will need to find chairs to go with it, but I am not concerned about finding suitable chairs. They don't have to match, just be the right height for dining.
That is enough for tonight. I need to go to bed so I can wake up early tomorrow morning.
