Good morning! I remember your names from the old Healthy Exchanges message board....which I miss! I have recently bought several more of Joanna's books on Amazon. They are used and only about $4.00 each! My new favorite is the "Friends and Family Cookbook ".

wow I never thought of doing it that way. I have no idea the progression in which she wrote the books. I guess we will just have to go through and see. I'm going to my book case now, I do believe there may be a 1992 booklet....

ok the next books as far as I can tell were published in 1996, HELP and Diabetic's Healthy Exchanges. The Diabetic one has older recipes then HELP. As they are the best of 1993 newsletters.

How about her second book. Though I do not know what book that would be.I thought it would be fun to just go through her books, as she wrote them, from first to last. Of course, some people will not have some of these books.
Do you know which book would be her second book?

I think her first book is amazing for a first book. What a blessed talent she had for changing over recipes to tast good, and to be low fat and low sugar. God really blessed her with a talent for doing this, and in the process, we have been blessed with all these great recipes.

The Lasagna is on my list for this week too!

There was a lady, I believe her name was Stephanie on the old HE boards that loved the Triple Layer pie! I always wanted to try it! But, I am having a filling (tooth) problem and decided not to cause of the nuts! I will have to try it once my tooth is fixed!

I made Triple Layer Party Pie yesterday. Yum. I did not have butterscotch pudding mix, so used vanilla instead of it. Turned out wonderfully.

today,, I am going to make Impossible Lasagna. I have not made that recipe before. Will have that with grape tomatoes and sliced English cucumber. yum

ok I looked it up and I have tried a number of recipes from HE book, but none with pics! ARG!

Any way, I made up a list, only one is a family favorite (the salisbury steak, I've made it uncountable times, but never took a pic!).

So I am going to make that next week, and cheesy tuna noodle bake, Party Turkey Tetrezini (I love her other recipes for this), and Impossible Lasagna. Im also going to make a few desserts. Simply Superb Banana Cream Pie, Pina Colada Cheesecake, and Fruit Cocktail Chiffon Pie.

Let's please try to keep this up, I really really really need to get back to this. I've gained a LOT of weight that I had kept off for years. I need back to my meal planning! And I need exercise too. But, if I could just get back to meal planning again we would go a long way!

ok I will look up lemon fluff and if I have the ingredients will make it tomorrow, if not next week, after shopping!

If any one is interested on the yahoo group I just added the search engine (if you have mastercook) for the Preserving the Best At Timber Ridge Farm.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY need to get back to this as well. I'm going to make her strawberry jam recipe today, wish I had rhubarb to make some of it too. But, I will this spring.

Any way strawberries were on sale this week, so I am making jam.

Do you have mastercook?

I am still working on getting my search engine complete, if you have master cook, it would be awesome if you could add all the titles from the HE book to a "cookbook" in master cook, so we could have them for our search engine.

Today I made Lemon Fluff Salad on page 110. I see my notes I made it before but used a box of lemon instant pudding. I didn't have any this time so followed the directions and used vanilla instant pudding and a pkg of lemon jello. I'm sure this recipe was way before lemon instant pudding came on the market and using it you would save a few pennies. It wouldn't be quite so sweet with out the jello, which is a good thing.

Is this the book Healthy Exchanges Cookbook with a copyright in 1994? I have a vague memory there were two early JoAnna books with a similar name but when someone posted about a recipe, the page the recipes were on were different.

Very good idea Patty, I have that book, though I do not have all of her books. I will be glad to try some of the recipes. I generally have most of the ingredients she uses in her recipes. If not I just ordered a book called, "Substituting Ingredients" There are several books of this nature and for someone, like myself, who lives out in the boonies, substituting is a necessary part of cooking.

I have only tried a few of JoAnna's recipes, but I am glad to try more.

See you all later.

Love, Judy emoticon

What a good idea Patty, I have many stickies on pages of that cook book but have not tried one recipe in it. I need to grocery shop badly and hope to do that on Tues. with DH. We'll each take a cart and if mine gets to heavy to push I'll trade carts with him. The soup and Mex. pie I can't have right now with corn and cabbage. Still watching to not eat gassy items.

I am going to be cooking from the original Healthy Exchange cookbook the rest of Feb..
Anyone want to join me?
Today, I made or will make:

Basic vegetable soup, page 55.
I put it in the crockpot on high, cause I just made it. Will turn it down around 4, to low.
I also used a quart of home canned tomatoes to replace the two , 16 ounce cans of tomatoes

Mexicalli pie, page 150
Not sure if I have corn chips. If not, it will still be good.

Fruit Cocktail chiffon pie, page 199

Applesauce Oatmeal Muffins, page 225

These recipes should last 2 or 3 days.

Not sure what I will make after that. I do see quite a lot of recipes that I want to try out, but I need ingredients for them.

Should be a good supper.
If I didn't have fruit in the dessert, I would make a fruit salad also. But since it is in the pie, I don't have to.

ok, let's see who else will do this with me.

We used to do this each month, using a different cookbook. It kind of went by the wayside. Let's see if we can get this started again. Or am I the only one that wants to do this. If so, that is fine too.
Patty
