Judy, Your Welcome! I will look up all the information I have on being gluten-free and put more on here. I will also list all the books I have. I do have Celiac Disease which is kind of common with people who have Diabetes Type 1 but I have Type 2 Diabetes. However, I have Hashimoto Thyroid Condition and I have been reading that people with Hashioto Thyroid should be Gluten-Free. No problem because I am gluten-free.

I will post more information later.

GOD BLESS!
Louise

Hi Louise, Thank you for sharing all that information. We can always use new ideas and techniques. I am investigating gluten free foods though celiac disease isn't one of my problems. I have friends who need to be gluten free and I like to be able to feed them when they visit. I find the information you've given is very helpful. Please continue.

I think my diabetes will respond in a positive manner if I work on diminishing the gluten in my diet. So far I have been able to cut bread out almost all the way. I need to get some gluten free pancake mixes. I've seen them advertized and I think they will be a big help for me. I do like pancakes and waffles occasionally. I use dehydrated fruit in them and that makes them even more interesting.

I know this could be just another food fad, but there may be some very real benefits if I just don't go off the deep end.

See you all later,

Love, Judy emoticon

Ann, I will look through my things and see if I have a list of gluten-free grocery guide. Do you have a Sprouts in your area? They have great gluten-free foods and they have gluten-free list of the food they have. Actually, a lot of grocery stores have a gluten-free list of their stores. You can also go on line for a list of gluten-free grocery guide. I will look. I have felt so much better since I have been gluten-free now for years.

I have to be honest. I eat a lot of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and basic things as a lot of the gluten-free foods have a lot of sugar in them. Since I am a diabetic I have to be careful.
Does she know that Boars Head Slice meats are gluten-free. Not all hot dogs are gluten-free.
Trader Joe's has a lot of gluten-free foods.

Ann, if you want to ask me questions or need more information, please SPARKMAIL me.

GOD BLESS!
Louise

Hello,

Ann, go for those older copies, they are a great start and can lead to more modern ideas. Check with Bob's Red Mill. They do mail orders and carry gluten free products. They have a catalogue and are very good about having recipes for their products. I go to their mill when I am in the Portland area. It is a real trial for me because I have to limit my purchases and I want everything they have.

You might also have some luck with King Arthur Flour Company. They have a catalogue and include recipes as well. They also have a complete line of gluten free products. I hope you've already checked Amazon for books. I would also check on books for Celiac patients. I just went to Celiac.com and found a wealth of information. I am sure you've already checked there too. But, it is worth mentioning.

I have arranged for someone to shovel my driveway tomorrow morning and then I am headed for my daughter's house. I talked with her a little while ago and she told me to go down as soon as I could get out of my driveway. I am outta here.

Ann, I did see the Costco gift cards but didn't look close enough to see if non-members could use them. That would work well for DS because he can't afford the membership and he can't use his food stamps there unless he has a membership. DS first had to be careful about foods that wouldn't aggravate his diverticulitis. He's had a couple of bad bouts with it since he was hospitalized a couple of years ago and reads a lot abot various health things and came on the idea that he might feel better if he ate gluten free. There is a certified herbalist in town and she has helped him with information. At first she had him take a pricey probiotic that had to be refrigerated. She said not all probiotic products are worthwhile. It's supposed to help heal the gut. After taking it things improved and he doesn't need to take that anymore but he does take a psillium product. So many of the gluten free products are expensive. DS can't afford it so he is pretty basic with lots of chicken or turkey, corn tortillas, certain fresh veggies. Hooray for not having to cook on Christmas!

Jan, our Costco has a whole aisle of packages of all kinds of tickets. From past experience they don't have the theatre in our area. It is a 7 or 8 plex and one of a chain but Costco seems to have them for theatre's in the malls. DD was going to the Costco Busniess center very close to us and I asked her to get me a can of the Belgium chocolate dipped cookies. They didn't have them. They don't have everything the other Costco's have. Did you know that you can buy a gift certificate at Costco and the person you give it to doesn't have to be a member to use it. I just read that today in the paper.

Well, now we're eating out on Ch. Eve. DS told DD that he didn't think I would be up to it. She asked him if he thought I really wanted to cook.

DD seems to really be in this gluten free diet. She's been reading labels and found out from someone she works with that one of the local grocery stores has all their gluten foods in one aisle. She cleaned out her package food supply and added them to my food bank collection.
I wish I could find her a Gluten Free Grocery Guide that didn't cost $25.00. I did go on line to a couple of used book sites and found some cheap but they were 2007 2008 and 2009 copies.

emoticon I just got back from Costco and got most of my Christmas shopping done plus groceries.Snow and hail have melted.

Ann, I got $25 worth of local movie theater card at Costco for $19.99. Also got good deals on what DH and DS#2 wanted. I wasn't positive about Christmas dinner until I saw a good deal on fresh turkey so it will be turkey dinner.

Judy, Our snow has melted and I hope yours does, too. Is there an alternate living place until the one you want comes open? It sounds definitely like time to move on.

Hello everyone,

I got a notice yesterday that said there is a three year wait for the apartment complex. I am not sure if that is applicable for me. Still it was somewhat upsetting. I am hanging in there.

We are snowed in now. There is no way for us to get out even if the roads do get plowed. Our driveway is impassible. I am not concerned about food, but I would like more heat. I turned the oven off last night before going to bed. I always do that. As long as I am up and monitoring I feel safe having it on.

Have any of you found molasses in the supermarket? I can't find it at all and I have checked several stores. If you found it where did you find it. I have looked in the baking supplies and with jams and peanut butter. Please let me know because we all know molasses is an important ingredient in many holiday recipes.

I'll be back later.

One post lost.

Patty, when I sent Sarah a card I put her home address on the envelope as the return address because I was sure she would be transferred out of the hospital before the card got there. Now when she gets home she will have it. I had asked Glenna for the address and she did send it to me. I hope your DH gets rid of the nausea. Today is my last day on the nausea pills until the next chemo.

Judy, as a said on Mondays thread, not a good idea to heat your house with the oven on. I keep reading that in the paper. I think you would be a lot better living in the city where there are services. I hope your name is at the top but it must be a long wait sometimes as people probably don't move out that often. DIL dad was lucky and only had to wait a week or two for an opening.

I had a chat with DS last night and found two places that GS would love to have gift certificates too. That will be easy Christmas shopping for him. age 14. I also read in the paper today that Costco has gift certificates and you don't have to be a member to use them. I still have to make a trip to our local movie theatre and get DD a gift certificate.

What is everyone cooking for Christmas dinner? I'm fixing Christmas supper and going to bake a tri tip roast for the first time. Mashed potatoes, butternut squash, peas, rolls and maybe a salad. I'm stuck on desert. We always have ice cream in the house. My kids aren't big on desert. GS will be at his mothers on Ch. night so I don't have to worry about his picky eating.

Good Morning Patty and Jan and all who will follow! Patty, I am glad your dear husband is feeling better. Jan, I hope it does not snow too, too much.

I cannot be on here very long. The ladies are coming over to our townhome this morning for Tuesday Morning Bible Study. We have been doing Stormie Omartian's book "Lead Me, Holy Spirit". I am getting so much out of it. We have three lessons left--two after today's lesson. In January I am also going to do one of the Bible Studies at our church put on by the Women Ministry Team. I have been praying about which one and I leaning toward doing Kay Arthur's Precept class on Romans but still not sure if that is the one I am going to take.

My leg is still swollen so no exercise. Yes, I did drink my water. Yes, I did stick to my food plan.

Have A Great Day! emoticon

GOD BLESS!
Louise

Good morning emoticon
It's snowing! Not supposed to accumulate but pretty to watch coming down.

I'm getting my hair cut this morning. Then some grocery shopping and back home to continue my ever-present decluttering mission. Christmas decorations and containers make that even more a challenge but my little computer room with the tv is almost good to do some exercise videos.

DH and I are watching a Thin Man movie this morning. I love this era - reminds me of how Mom and Dad wore their hair.

I'm doing good with my food and blood sugar readings. I keep a written journal by my chair of what I've eaten and when plus a place where I write what my blood sugar is twice a day. I also use Sparkpeople nutrition tracker.
I need to track my water on there, too- so I'm making a place on my written journal for that. I believe I'm drinking enough water but need to see it written.
Today my exercise will be moving and organizing things in the little room and when I'm done maybe I can pop in a Leslie.

Judy, I'm hoping you get called with a vacancy at that apartment you want. The sooner the better.

Patty, Glad DH is better with the meds.

Morning Girls,
Jan, hubby is better as long as he takes those 2 meds. Don't know what will happen once those are gone. He has chiro appt tomorrow, and dr. appt on thurs. So maybe one of them can help him.

I got my card back yesterday, that I had sent to Sarah. Must have put something wrong on the envelope. Or maybe she was gone to the rehab place, by the time it got there. Oh well, I tried.

I have some hats to put on my blog, but just don't want to put them on there right now. It seems wrong to have something so frivolous as pics of hats, when the country is in mourning from the CT,. shootings. Maybe later in the week. We shall see.
How was yesterday?

did you move?
yes, 1 mile walk

did you drink your water?
yes

did you stick to your lifestyle food plan?
yes

Let's make today a healthy day.
Patty
