Today our family observed, "Do Not Buy Anything" day. We luxuriated in leftover meals, watched a movie on Netflicks and my daughter made more pumpkin pies from scratch. She baked the pumpkins I took down to her. One she used to make more pies today and the others she will put in the freezer for next year. She is now Pie Queen of the world. Her pies are terrific and since she doesn't use lard in them I can eat them.
Amanda had planned to go to Freddies to pick up some of those socks this morning, but she didn't get up early enough and when she did get up she didn't want to venture out into the rain. Not even the dogs wanted to go out in the rain. My grandsons did though. One went running and the other went somewhere to work out. Both walked to their destination and were soaked when they got home.
I had a lovely Thanksgiving with my family. They invited me back for Christmas so this year my Christmas won't be as bleak as it was last year. It is going to be hard with my son moving across the state. I'll miss him terribly, we've done so much together since he has been living in Seattle. It has been over six years since he moved into his apartment. Prior to that he lived just north of Seattle in Marysville on the Tulalip Indian reservation. He has been close by for many years and I've come to rely on him, especially when I have doctor's appointments. Everything is going to change soon. I hope I am able to cope with grace.
I'm a one stop one shop lady. I never was one to just wander the store looking at the displays. DH and I use to go out generally on a Wed. night between Thanksgiving and Christmas and walk a mall and look at the decorated windows. They don't even have much window to decorate any more. As many malls as there are in the county along with the outlet mails it would take us every day between now and Christmas to hit them all. Most of the outlet stores here I have never been to. One is at an Indian casino east of here and there are two by the Mexican border which is about 20 miles at the most and we never go down there. I do like to look in the military exchange stores at this time of year. There are four close by and a 5th one in north county. I generally look at the Christmas stuff.
I do have to get out in the next week before I have Chemo and get two Toys for Tots gifts for our camp out exchange. We wrap them and open them and then they are packed up in a car to take to the Marines Toy drive. I already have the two items for the brown bag auction. That money will go to Make a Wish foundation.

I heard a Christmas song or two on the truck radio today. Wal Mart is really big on black Friday sales. They play it for all it's worth. I never was into all that. I am definately not a shop until you drop kinda gal. I can browse in good will or something like that. But otherwise it is mostly here is my list and away I go. If I am alone I tend to power walk in the stores as I shop. That is if everyone stays out of my way! lol Just kidding. I have never run over anyone yet.

The only nod to so-called Black Friday here is the Fred Meyer sale. I have heard one of the big deals is the sock sale. I haven't been able to imagine anyone getting excited over socks. I do have pleasant memories of Christmas shopping in downtown Portland when I was a kid. Meier & Frank (which no longer exists)- I think it was the 10th floor was the toy department with a train children could ride in by going up stairs and it ran on a track high up. Then wonderful toys. I remember looking at all the wonderful perfume bottles and trying to choose something for Mom. There were the wooden front counters then and the old cash registers. All of the street floor windows were decorated with Christmas scenes - animated figures. It was a sight to see. We have one drugstore here in town that decorates. Many local shops decorate their windows- but there aren't crowds of people.
My church will be decorating probably next Friday if I remember right. There is one lady who is really good at coming up with a different plan each year and it's fun working along with others in good spirits.
Patty, that has to be hard to have to stay in. Even if you don't really want to go anywhere, it's nice to know you can just go when you want to.
Sarah, you must be the gregarious one in our group. It's always fun to go along with someone like you to see the fun in things. So are you playing your Christmas music yet?
I'm with Patty and stay as far away from the stores on Black Friday as possible. In fact stay off the roads too. I don't do much Christmas shopping as giving checks is easier. I know they are appreciated. I do also get a gift card for the movie theatre for DD. GS will probably get a gift card for a Game Shop. If I can find a cute different Santa I will send it to DIL as she collects them. I hate paying the price of postage.
DH is watching another football game.
Patty, I have a prescription cream that I like when my skin gets itchy and dry. We always keep some in the house. Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP. 0.1% A tube last forever.
The computer says the temp is 60 degrees but I think it is warmer than that. A lovely sunny day. I'm sure the desert rats are having a good time with their sand toys. I hope DS and DD got some warmed up dinner when they arrive. DD says they aways have more food than they can eat so I'm sure they didn't go to bed hungry. DD was taking the dessert pies.

It's a cool, cloudy or rainy day brightened up by the icicle lights. Usually we only turn them on in the evening (led) but today they are pleasant to see on a dark day.
The turkey was delicious. I was very careful having only a spoonful of mashed potatoes and a spoonful of dressing. DS made wonderful gravy, skimming off all the fat but I only had a dab of that, too. Just enough to enjoy.
This morning DS's are out looking for chanterelles. DH and I are watching a rerun of Midsomer Murders where there are an unbelievable amount of murders going on- you'd wonder anyone was left in the villages but very enjoyable.
Move? yes. Stick to food plan? yes. Drink 8 glasses of water? yes.
Good morning Girls, Do you shop on black friday? We stay as far from town as we possible can.
Yesterday was 59 degrees, and today is cold, overcast, windy and snowing...it is hard to live in this changing weather.
I still have shingles, still have pain and itching, but it has stopped spreading. Still, stopped spreading...yay Now I want this over. I am tired of staying home, though really I am not, as I have not felt well enough to go anyplace.
So, how was yesterday? did you stick to your food plan? yes
