Ann and all, I told them at the apartment complex that would be willing to volunteer, but no offer was made to modify the requirement for $100 more income than the rent I am disappointed, but all is not lost. I am sure I will move to where I am supposed to be. Maybe this is a learning exercise.
Right now I am concentrating on stocking up on fruits and vegetables for the winter. I can't can vegetables because I don't have either the jars or a pressure cooker. My ex had a wonderful pressure cooker that had wing nuts all around the top. I found one in a catalogue, but didn't have the where-with-all to purchase it at the time. I had a pressure cooker explode on me once and I have been nervous about them since.
My dried peach slices turned out well. I have a hot spot in my dehydrator so some of the slices turned really dark. I tasted one and it was okay. I am going shopping on Friday and I want to get some celery to dry. Celery is so important in many recipes and I often don't have any. If I have a supply of dried celery I'll be just fine. I think I'm going to give up on carrots. I have a lot in the freezer and I don't like their texture so I'll probably figure out how to cook them so they don't feel like rubber.
Carol has decided she wants some apple butter. She expects me to get the apples and make the butter. I suppose that is okay, but still I don't have jars to put the finished product in. Since she has never cooked, much less preserved anything she has no idea what is involved in making apple butter or any of the other things I've made for her.
She did open a jar I canned several years ago and found it was Pear Chutney. I used some of that chutney to make the dressing for some apple slaw I made for me this evening. I really enjoyed that slaw. It did give my jaw a good workout too. See I do get my exercise.
Its time for me to slow down for the night. I'll see you again tomorrow.
Judy, good job on the pounds gone. You wrote and I wasn't sure if the activity center that you thought with the move (original one to Seattle), was located at the apartment complex. If that is true and they knew you would be willing to volunteer there would that make up for the shortage of your income to qualify? I hope that makes sense.
We had a nice bridge day and lunch even though it was very warm. I had fans going in several places. I even had leftovers for our supper and for tomorrow night too. I wasn't especially happy with my dessert. It tasted good but ---. I don't think this recipe is the one I thought it was. DH had a dr, app't and then had to house sit for DS who had a workman coming so it worked out well for him. He said DS house is cooler than ours. Probably has insulation.
Tomorrow I can just veg out with nothing to do. Friday is chemo.
I got up early this morning because today is my TOPS day. It was very hot in my bedroom. When I went down stairs to take a shower I found the front door hanging wide open. Thank goodness Gidget didn't decide to take off like she usually does.
It was cool when I left home for my meeting, but once I got in the sun the car warmed nicely. I lost three pounds this time. I guess the extra work I am doing for the Diabetes is doing some good. I have my spread sheet working just fine. I am going to add a new column for calories. I think that might be productive.
Patty, I hope your headache is gone by now.
Jan, you are a glutton for punishment. I think it is great that you have such great yield from your blackberries.
Sarah, I am not going to get that wonderful apartment in Seattle. I have an application for a HUD apartment near Vancouver. I don't like this application, it asks way too many very personal questions. It is like they don't trust me. I guess that is the penalty I have to pay for not having enough money.
I'll see you all tomorrow, if not sooner.
