lol Judy yes I told them it was Ghanian with a little south american influence. lol haha I love quinoa.
Ann, I just use quinoa the same way others would rice. I've tried a few "recipes" specifically for quinoa and have found all but one bland and just not my taste. When I started just using it in recipes that call for rice, and doing every thing else the same, I liked those results a lot better.
I think the same thing about cooking light, a lot of steps, a lot of ingredients, and a lot of hard to find stuff. Oh there's a recipe here or there I would like to try, but usually never get around to it. And yeah WW is a LOT of ads, and then it seems once you have had a one year sub with them, they just start writing the same things over and over, so it's just the same old same old articles, rarely anything "new". I think Jo spoiled us with her newsletter, always something "new", and not too hard or too many ingredients!
I bought some quinoa but have not used it yet. Seems like the last time at Costco someone was giving out samples of a dish with quinoa. There was a crowd around the area so I didn't hang around.
I got a new Cooking Light magazine in the mail yesterday and went through it and saved one recipe. I'm not impressed with their magazine at all. Too many ingredients and I'm too lazy to spend that much time in the kitchen. It was one magazine I chose when GS was selliing them for his school. I sure hope he doesn't sell any this year. I don't care for the W W magazine either. More ads than anything and on the news stand it sells for $4.99. Prevention was another one I ordered and I don't find much in it of interest either.
Your's will truly be an international dish. Quinoa is from South America. I got a sprouted quinoa-rice mixture at Costco and it is very good. I like both grains so this mix of those grains sprouted is a hit.
We started Lela with kindergarten last monday. But, I just got the call today her cirr won't be here for another week or two. That's ok right now we are just doing Sam's club work books and she is doing really really well. We go to a homeschool co op olympic picnic for back to school party tonight. We are all supposed to bring something to represent a different country for food. I am going to bring Jollaf a Ghanian or Nigerian (there's a age old argument over which country it first made it's appearance in) dish, however mine will be for sure Ghanian influenced because the woman who taught me to make it was Ghanian. But, it calls for rice, and I don't keep much rice in the house cause Vince nor I care for rice much, so I'm going to make it with quinoa instead.
Hope this is a good day for everyone. So far so good here. I don't have a big day planned, just a few normal cleaning things and mop the floors. That should do me in.
No news here. Anything exciting happening in your part of the world? Another weekend is here already. If you use composite books etc now is the time to buy. Staples is having a sale. But then so is about everyone, back to schoolo sales.
Patty I drank lots of water yesterday and that was about it, sad to say.
