My food dryer has arrived! Now I can save all those things that have been going into compost. I want to make a veggie soup mix of dried vegetables. I have done something like that before. Last time I dried bell peppers they lasted for a whole winter. I have extra carrots in the frig right now and after I take Gidget to the groomers, I will peel and slice those carrots and get them drying.
oh wow I love berries would love to go wild berry picking.
I hate when people ask to borrow very expensive items then don't return them or destroy them during their borrowing. I don't understand that. Plus I have never asked a friend/family of mine to borrow expensive things either. I think it's rather bold, but then to ruin them or lose them to boot! UHG!
We finally broke out of our heat wave and have a comfortable 86 degrees. Things have been a bit nuts. The depression came back to visit in a big way in February as I spent an entire year trying to find out why the GI tract was soooooooo cranky (turns out it was IBS - well managed right now). I had a mental breakdown and have spent the past several months putting in the necessary me-work to recover. Depression will always be a certain part of my life but this is a journey to well-being and that cannot be rushed or I won't learn what I need to in the process.
I have to get serious about losing the weight again. . .I saw a poster the other day that said "If you're tired of starting over, stopping quitting." About sums it up. So here I am, tail between the legs and picking myself back up.
The photography, writing and art are going well. I am selling a few pieces here and there and more jobs are coming in. I began teaching journaling and art journaling to the mentally ill about a month ago and that is going well.
You can't punish yourself into change. You can't whip yourself into shape. But you can love yourself into well-being. - Susan Sky
Last night as I was driving home I saw lightening, Later as I was reading mail on my computer I heard the first raindrops fall. We had a small shower and it cooled the air considerably. It is hot again this morning, but definitely not as hot as the rest of the country. Because of the cool air last night I slept like a rock.
Yesterday, I had my caregiver change my bed and take off the down comforter. I had her replace the comforter with a sheet. So much more comfortable for the summer. I love my comforter, but there is such a thing as too much togetherness.
The campground across the street is quiet today. I could hear and smell many campers over the weekend. (Smell?) Yes, I can smell what they are cooking in the campground. Sometimes that is very pleasant. However, it often makes me very hungry. Isn't it amazing what our sense of smell can do to us.
I am still trying to get my caregiver to understand what is a serving. I need to obtain one of the Weight Watchers books that has the points per serving. They tell you just how much is a serving. I had one, but I can't find it now. I guess I'll have to find a Weight Watchers site.
The birds both inside and outside are very quiet today. I wonder if the heat is bothering them?
My second container garden is doing very well. The first one didn't do as well, primarily because the bugs got to it. I am going to replant later today. The sugar snap peas in the first container are doing very well. I may have some pea pods yet this summer. I would like to get some corn, but I don't want to buy the genetically modified corn. I know there is very little corn that has not been modified. I have switched to almost all organically foods just to avoid the GMOs. I wish our food were labeled so that we can tell whether we are getting GMOs. I did buy my seeds this year at our co-op. I know they are not modified.
Last week when I was in Seattle, my son bought some heirloom mini-tomatoes for me. They were delicious. I was so pleased with them that when I next get a chance I will get some more. They were stocked in Trader Joe's. Their produce is fabulous.
I ordered a food dryer last week. Hopefully I will be able to preserve a good share of healthy food this summer. I did that successfully a few years ago. I loaned my old food dryers to someone and she left them out in the rain which ruined them. I hate having to replace things because other people don't take care of things.
Yesterday, I made a quick trip into town. I took some plates to the couple with whom I spent the fourth. They were down to two plates. He is having serious trouble with his remaining leg, and she is not currently employed so replacing things isn't in their realm. Carol, my roommate doesn't like using my china because it is "too heavy" So we now use mostly plastic dishes when we aren't using paper plates. We do use a lot of paper plates. I have holders for them so they are much easier to use.
That is enough for now. I'll probably talk with you again later.
Hi Ann, I have been blackberry picking. They grow wild in West Virginia. It is hot here today, but not quite as bad as the past week or so. We had rain last night. We really needed it. Everything was drying up. Our yard is very brown in places. And our garden needed a drink. Do you know how much more chemo you have to have? I have been kinda awol lately and missed out on posts. We were without power from last Friday until the following Friday. Luckily we had a generator and our fridge and freezer were ok. Is your doctor still planning surgery after the chemo is finished. My mom had bladder cancer. They removed the tumor and then did chemo washes. She still has to go in yearly for a "look - see" to make sure everything is ok. We were talking about it last night. I'm not sure if this September check up is year 4 or 5. Four I am thinking.
Hello to everyone else stopping by. Hope your week is starting out well.
Talk to you later, Glenna

Good afternoon, I've been to the commissary grocery shopping and back home and everything is put away. I do have some gr beef I want to make into patties to freeze. I'm going to have to make a trip to our produce store. Their yellow squash was pretty sad looking.
The next few days it is suppose to warm up here. I hope it won't get too hot. Tomorrow I have chemo. I probably will only get some reading done the rest of the week. I'm not happy I will miss the monthly bridge game.
