Last night as I was driving home I saw lightening, Later as I was reading mail on my computer I heard the first raindrops fall. We had a small shower and it cooled the air considerably. It is hot again this morning, but definitely not as hot as the rest of the country. Because of the cool air last night I slept like a rock.
Yesterday, I had my caregiver change my bed and take off the down comforter. I had her replace the comforter with a sheet. So much more comfortable for the summer. I love my comforter, but there is such a thing as too much togetherness.
The campground across the street is quiet today. I could hear and smell many campers over the weekend. (Smell?) Yes, I can smell what they are cooking in the campground. Sometimes that is very pleasant. However, it often makes me very hungry. Isn't it amazing what our sense of smell can do to us.
I am still trying to get my caregiver to understand what is a serving. I need to obtain one of the Weight Watchers books that has the points per serving. They tell you just how much is a serving. I had one, but I can't find it now. I guess I'll have to find a Weight Watchers site.
The birds both inside and outside are very quiet today. I wonder if the heat is bothering them?
My second container garden is doing very well. The first one didn't do as well, primarily because the bugs got to it. I am going to replant later today. The sugar snap peas in the first container are doing very well. I may have some pea pods yet this summer. I would like to get some corn, but I don't want to buy the genetically modified corn. I know there is very little corn that has not been modified. I have switched to almost all organically foods just to avoid the GMOs. I wish our food were labeled so that we can tell whether we are getting GMOs. I did buy my seeds this year at our co-op. I know they are not modified.
Last week when I was in Seattle, my son bought some heirloom mini-tomatoes for me. They were delicious. I was so pleased with them that when I next get a chance I will get some more. They were stocked in Trader Joe's. Their produce is fabulous.
I ordered a food dryer last week. Hopefully I will be able to preserve a good share of healthy food this summer. I did that successfully a few years ago. I loaned my old food dryers to someone and she left them out in the rain which ruined them. I hate having to replace things because other people don't take care of things.
Yesterday, I made a quick trip into town. I took some plates to the couple with whom I spent the fourth. They were down to two plates. He is having serious trouble with his remaining leg, and she is not currently employed so replacing things isn't in their realm. Carol, my roommate doesn't like using my china because it is "too heavy" So we now use mostly plastic dishes when we aren't using paper plates. We do use a lot of paper plates. I have holders for them so they are much easier to use.
That is enough for now. I'll probably talk with you again later.
Love, Judy
