If I'm using the foil under or over foods I put the shiny side up. I think the shiny side helps attract the heat somehow.

I used the shiny side to make reflector ovens. I am still wanting to build a solar cooker. I just haven't found the right pattern.

When we went camping I made many reflector ovens by using wire hangers, an oven rack and aluminum foil. I got it set up well enough to actually bake biscuits and pizza. I still wonder how they built reflector ovens before aluminum foil?

I have no idea which side. Never thought it made a difference. Of course it does with the non stick one.

Wrap your celery and bell peppers in alum. foil and they will last a lot longer.

I always put the shiny side up even when I am cooking. So I am not sure if this is right or not.

I put the shiny side up if I want my dish to stay cool. The dull side up if I am cooking with the foil.

That having been said, I rarely use aluminum foil. I did yesterday because I couldn't find the lids to most of the dishes I was transporting. I think that is the first time in more than a year I have used foil. I guess I haven't been going a lot and I do have many covered containers.

When you use aluminum foil, do you put the dull side to the food or the shiny side?

I never know if I do this right or not. Hopefully y'all can clear this up for my inquiring mind.
