In today's blogs there was an article named, "4 ways to ban summer boredom". My mother needed only one way. She taught me and I taught my kids. They learned the very first time they tried, never say, "I'm Bored". The reply was always a list of chores that needed to be done.
Mother and I believed that children need to learn how to amuse themselves. I remember during one spring vacation in Michigan I went for a walk through the fields that bordered our home. While I was walking I picked branches off a bush I passes. The branches were pretty, but I had no idea what they were. There were no leaves or flowers that would help to identify them.
When I got home Mother suggested that I might like to put the branches in a bottle of water. I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to them for a few days. Then one day little nubbins started to appear. As they grew I realized they would be pussys and my branches were willows. The branches developed roots and I planted them at the edge of the yard. That project lasted to the end of the school year. I still love pussywillows. My daughter thought I was really wonderful because on our walks I was able to show her pussywillows. She wrote a poem about it when she was in college.
Children don't need to be amused constantly. Doing so doesn't help them to develop their natural curiosity. It doesn't teach them independence either. Let your children find out how to entertain themselves. They will show you creativity you never imagined.

It's a beautiful day here. DH and I walked on the river walk this morning - didn't need a jacket or sweater but we had them along because you never know until you get there how it's going to be.
At every TOPS function, the award winners always say keeping a journal is a big part of weight loss. You can also use them to look back and see what combination of food gave you a great loss on a particular week.
Ann, It's great your son is so helpful. The neighborhood I grew up in had huge lots - the one my folks owned was a junior acre that backed on my grandparent's land. It was a long way around by road but a quicker run down the hill when we were kids. Much of it was subdivided and there are now three homes on Mom & Dad's junior acre. It's still a nice family kind of neighborhood and the newest owner tells me many people who grew up there (in the years after my family left) are still there. I hope it works out for your property.
Yesterday I was higher on my points but it will balance out over the week. Drank my water. No exercise day.
Louise, you are fortunate you have access to a pool. Wish I was there to swim with you although the last time I tried to do a lap it felt like three years getting from one end to the other, lol.
Good Morning Ladies. A day of June Gloom and I don't think the sun will even get out by supper time. DH went to kid sit with GS this morning and then they came here at lunch time and DD picked GS up to go back home again. That gave #1DS to see them both for a few minutes. We'll all be together for a BBQ on Sunday. DS and I were up until 1 a.m. last night talking. I couldn't believe he got up before I did this morning.
I've gotten a little work out of DS#1. He put a couple of screws in the front of the cabinet that holds the bathroom sink that was coming loose. He also figured out for me how to put the new foamy ear pieces in my TV ears that I use when I'm watching a TV show that the speech is hard to understand. That happens with some of the movies with lots of conversation. Then we've been pouring over the map of the land of my mothers house in Ma. that I have for sale. He thinks I should offer to subdivide the land. I didn't want to do that but I sure would like to get the house and land sold. So now he's writing a letter for me to the realtor requesting newer comps. DS planned and designed their huge house and he over saw the construction so he knows a lot about that stuff that we don't.
DH is off to have new tires put on the car and bring us home a Costco take and bake pizza for supper.
Louise, For you, I would suggest 3 columns. the first larger column would be the item that you are eating the second column would be the points of that item the third column would be the total points of the day, so this way you would have a running total as you go on about your day. It would look something like this:
/ food you eat / points for this food / total points so far
Patty, Thank You it does help. Weight Watchers gives us a track to write things down but it is kind of small so I really would be better with a journal. I will write down the points I am allowed and then the points of what I eat down. Keeping a journal will be easier because it will have more room to write down everything. Thank You for this suggestion because I am going to take it. It is a great suggestion. This is what I love about this Team we are here to help each other. Thank You Again!
Louise, I keep a journal in the place that I eat. Then when I eat something, I can write it down. For me, since we eat in front of the tv, it is on the table by the couch. It helps to keep track during the day, because then you can see how much you have left for the day, either calories or carbs. Whichever you choose to count. For me it is carbs of course...lol
Good Morning Patty and all who will follow! I am not really sure what I will be doing today. I know I have a lot of housework but there is always housework to do. I do have to straighten out the bookcases because even though I did organize them they are messy again. I have to learn to keep them organized and not throw books everywhere. I have to put them back in their places! I want to go swimming either before it gets too hot or go tonight after it gets a little warmer. I have not been doing well exercising or eating. I have been drinking my water. I have to start over again and really write down what I eat and put down the points. I got to either walk outside early or do a Leslie DVD and also take advantages of the swimming season. Well, everyone, please have a Happy and Great Friday!
Good morning, Supposed to be hot hot hot today and tomorrow. I will need to turn on my air conditioner. It is already 75 out, and to be near 90 both days, then back down into the 70's. whew
