Patty,
Yes, mackerel comes in a 14 or 15 oz. can just like salmon. It is a darker fish than salmon. I think it is more moist. I don't really know how to describe the taste. It isn't like tuna. But it is closer to salmon. It isn't a strong fish---or at least to my taste buds! I know everyone in my family prefers it to salmon. but it could be because that is what we are used to! If you are a fish eater, I am sure you would like it. Let me know if you give it a try.

Yesterday I was rather busy so didn't get on the computer.

Wed. night 14 or us went to dinner at a Brewery. I think only two people had any brew. We had heard they had good 1/2 lb. hamburgers. We walk in and tell the hostess there are 14 of us. She looked a little panic stricken and said she would go talk to the chef. There were two rooms of tables and no customers. They seated us in the bar and all went well. I think there was only one people in the kitchen cooking. I had a chicken Caesar salad and I've had better.

Yesterday I was busy doing the odds and ends for last nights supper. I had bought deli potato salad and 5# of shredded cabbage for salad. I had a big can of beans. So I had to make the Sloppy Joe. The gr. beef I got at Costco was not as lean as the 94% I generally buy. I hade 5.9 lbs. I cooked it up and drained it good and weighed it. 4# I could not believe there was so much water and fat. Anyway I used the package Sloppy Joe mix for 5 and it came out perfect. no left overs. I had a lot of potato salad left over and some cole slaw even thought I didn't use the whole bag of cabbage. Ice cream with apples I had cut up in the morning and cooked in the crock pot. I got out my crock pot that I keep in the RV and took one look and told DH all those apples are no way going to fit in the crock. So I borrowed a second one from one of the ladies who I knew had a bigger one with her that we had used at the rally. They both were so full I could hardly get the covers on.

More later. Happy Hour and I have to get out some left overs to go with supper.

Hi everyone!

We had fresh snow this morning. Just a "dusting". It was enough to make everything look clean and fresh. It was cool though. Only 30 degrees. Supposed to be sunny and in the 50's tomorrow!

I had to take care of flies again today. A couple of the tiers brought some to us. I am glad for the innventory.

I also did quite a bit of cooking. I used the salmon cake recipe from Open Road cookbook except I used mackerel. I am so used to mackerel that it is hard to switch to salmon! I grew up with mackerel. It's lots cheaper than salmon. Anyway it's fish!

Not much else going on here. I had plans for laundry and some other things, but kinda got sidetracked. I did get to churn butter. So that's one from my to-do list!

It is still morning here. 46 degrees, some dark clouds, some sun. It's supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow. Quinn is coming down for the weekend so I'm getting ready for that. Lots to do today.

Sarah, we don't get snow every year and it doesn't usually last long - at the most a few days. We are close to sea level so I understand that makes a difference between here and other parts of the state where they get more snow. My sister is in central Oregon and they get snow every winter that lasts months. They all have to have the boots and cars that will navigate the snow. The thing about that is many of us that don't get much snow aren't experienced drivers in it.

We have a wedding to go to in the afternoon tomorrow so DD and I are going shopping later to pick something out for my to wear. DD is so good at picking out clothes but I am not. I will let everyone know if I lost weight this week after the morning weigh-in tomorrow. Has anyone heard from Paulissa or Judy? I miss their posts! Also, I miss Heather! Actually, I miss a lot of people who used to come and post like Iris and others. Please come back! Well, everyone, please Have A Great Day!
GOD BLESS!

Hi Everyone

Sunny, breezy and cool--57 degrees. I didn't want to leave the warmth of my bed this morning.

Everyone is doing great with our water challenge! I love water but have to remember it because I keep iced tea in the fridge and I go for that instead.

I guess we have dry skin in common. Y'all had great ideas and I'm going to try some of them so thank you everyone.

Louise fingers crossed for your weigh-in tomorrow! emoticon

Ann did I miss your post yesterday? I miss reading your adventures.

Jan I didn't realize you had snow. Do you get a lot? Are you getting lots of fresh apples at your markets?

Patty isn't it fun to get into a good book? Are you cooking today? ou have some really good sounding meals.

Nina so glad your DH is home with you! The trip to the aquarium sounded like it was a fun outing for you.

What are your plans today? I am going to make my quiche and cooking wise that will be it. No sure what else other than sweeping my kitchen and mybe run the vacuum.

Thank you to our veterans here on the board and to veterans all over! I'm so grateful to each of you.

Have a great day all.

emoticon
