The word "pocketbook" brought me back years ago remembering my aunt's pocketbook (that's what they called it). It was dark brown with a zipper - I can still see it. I loved my aunts so much. They made life fun doing things the old fashioned way. Blackberry picking with two washed tins tied together with string to hang over our necks. Banging pots and pans on the front porch and yelling Happy New Year. Taking evening walks. I think one of my top new years goals will be to be more like them and enjoy life in the simple things.

Hi everyone

Louise-I know what a pocketbook is too. We use to call it that in Illinois as a kid.

Toni-I just spent 2 days with no makeup on.

I have blond eye lashes, blond eyebrows. Without makeup I have two blue eyeballs staring at you. My eyes were itching and feeling dry. I had used some new mascara and will have to throw it out.
Seems to be the water proof that is doing it.

Avons has done it everytime I try it. Tomorrow I will try and go to Family Dollar and get my regular mascara. Hope it clears up soon for you.

I am resting today, even though my floors need vacumning, and I still have stuff out trying to organize my scrapbook stuff.

I overdid it by moving the furniture, and taking the heavy drawers out and sorting through them on the floor. It seems I just cannot be on the floor doing things.

Will have spagetti today. Have not decided on a desert. Maybe a peach cobbler, using Joanna's cobbler mix recipe.

It is sunny today-but still cold. I am ready for the snow to melt and not have to put those booties on my dogs.

Jan-went to bed around mid-night-never heard a single fire works. Usually do-but it was so cold I think no one wanted to go outside, and the parties were stopped by the snow yesterday.

They only plow the major high ways in Arizona and a lot of the roads are dirt roads.

You all have a great day.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Jan, Yes we did stay home New Year's Eve. I never got back to our friends about going out with them. They know we are not gamblers so they did not push us
going with them. Actually, DD stayed home also. Most of her friends were not going out either so the three of us enjoyed playing the Wii and then putting on the TV and watching the ball drop from New York City. Then immediately went up to bed! We did not care if we had stayed up until midnight but we were awake so we did.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Patty, I got my treadmill from HSN and I think it was just over $100. That was several years ago and it is till working. It does fold up so it's easier to put in a corner if we aren't using it. You might also find one at yard sales.

Ann, Are you making plans for your daughter's vacated room? Right now Leslie is out. My options for using a DVD is in the living room where DH is sitting with the remote glued to his hand and kids walking through every few minutes. I'm working on a plan to make the room where the other TV is more usable. I do have a place for the treadmill where I can shut the door while I'm using it.

Paulissa, have fun cyber-walking.

Louise, I'm thinking you stayed home tonight.

Well, girls, it's 11:30 and I'm tired. I'm going to bed to read. If I fall asleep - the new year will arrive anyway.

Yes, Louise I am doing a Leslie DVD at 11:40 pm tonight with other walkers from around the country. It will be cool to do that.

Patty, I will be praying for you. I understand depression and I understand why you don't want to take medication for it. However, if it keeps up, I think you should talk to your doctor about it. The added exercise and eating no sugar will make you feel
better. Cindy, I am glad you will not be on the road
at midnight. Paulissa, are you doing the Leslie DVD with other walkers? Ann, I loved that you used the term pocketbook. My Arizona friends still don't know what I mean when I say pocketbook instead of purse. My friends who are orginally from MA do. Well, we are staying home playing the Wii and other games. HAVE A GREAT NIGHT!
GOD BLESS!

Good late afternoon. We've been busy beavers today. I put stuff back on one set of shelves and emptied the middle set. Then I put new liner in some of the kitchen roll out drawers and one long cabinet that had the sticky tape on. DH is scraping the 'glue' off the shelves so they will be ready to paint. While I was messing with one roll out set of shelves I noticed a bunch of cable and wiring under the bottom drawer. I asked DH if we needed that any more since we moved the TV. He could not remember what the one wiring was for. Later it popper into his head that it was for a roof antenna that had moveable arms. Boy, that was a looooong time ago.

Patty, you need to see your Dr. for a check up and let him/her know about your depression spells. PLEASE. Read the ads in your paper for a used treadmill. OR shop at Sears for a floor model. My EXDIL told me she had gotten one very reasonable at Sears that was a floor model. I rarely go to Sears but happened in there for a new canister thingy that goes in the trash compactor. I saw this treadmill for $150.00 sale sign on it. I could not believe it as it looked like one with all the bells and whistles that I would want. I made the salesman double check that the price was correct. It was. Then I went home and drug DH back to look at it. We did buy it. Do I use it very much. NO. Right now it is in the garage folded up. DS borrowed it for a while. They take up a lot of room. My family room is prety large but with the furniture in there the treadmill is in the way and they are heavy and not easily moved. Personally I'd rather walk with Leslie. Patty, I know what you mean that your mother might not like the pocket book you bought for her. I bet my mother had her pocket book for 50 years. I know she had it when I was in high school.

Jan, I get achey when I get up in the morning. Depends on which side I sleep on. Either my shoulder or my knee. That is the reason I do a walk with Leslie first thing to get the stiffness out. It does help.

Our new young neighbors across the street have invited us and I'm sure other neighbors over to their house tonight. It will be early at 7 p.m. I'd rather not go but feel we should. We both will be tired after working all day on one project or another. DH even help DD move her bed and set it up at DS house.

I hope everyone has a very safe evening and a Happy New Year. I'm sure it will be football here all day long. I'll work on my projects.

Ann

Well, we didn't get a treadmill. I didn't realize that they were around $300 and upward. yikes.

I did plenty of walking today in the stores, and in a huge antique mall. I had to go to the van to rest from that walk. All of a sudden, I got so tired, I could hardly stand up...lol

I was able to find 3 pair of pants, 1 black, 1 navy and 1 taupe. Except they are made for people 6 feet tall. Mercy, they are long for this 5'2" inch gal...
I also found 6 tops. We shall see if anything fits. This was all at Goodwill. I also found a purse for Mom. Hers is in rough shape. Hope it doesn't upset her for a different purse, but we shall see.

Patty

Good morning ladies,

Boy, did I sleep in! It's 31 (up from 28) and the sun is shining. Last night I was up in the night reading a bit and the cats were milling around because they were cold. When I went back to bed I left my bathrobe on and slept until 9.

I have one thing I must do this morning and it is not entirely easy - call a list of women from church about helping out after our friend's funeral on Monday. Part of it makes my heart heavy and the other part is very willing to do this for my friend.

Patty, I'm glad you are starting to feel better. I'm going to join you in using the treadmill. I've got a new development where my hips/legs get achey after exercise and sometimes in the night so my plan is to use it for short periods of time.

Paulissa, You have a busy day going.

Cindy, It's good to hear from you. You have some fun projects going.

Good morning Patty,

I'm so sorry to hear that the depression has been so overwhelming and you would definitely leave a void if you weren't here. I have read in the past that exercise can help with depression - lowers the stress levels as I recall and I read somewhere recently that sugar can contribute due to the inflammation factor. So interesting to learn how these things affect our bodies. I hope that by increasing activity levels and watching sugars, that things will even out for you.

It looks as though the nasties are starting and will continue for the next 3 hours. Please be careful if you must go outside; bundle up and put the boots on. I imagine that you will want to de-ice your driveway so that no one slips and falls, including you! I'll be doing mine once the freezing rain and sleet end so the mailperson doesn't fall.

I'll be busy today even though I'm not going out: I have a long workout to get done after breakfast, then some cleaning since I want to move my puter, etc back upstairs now that I am able to climb stairs, work on some algebra, get some bulk cooking done, make out a menu and grocery list for next 2 weeks, do some reading and some crocheting.

I will be ringing in the new year with a walk with leslie with some other walkers! How will you be ringing it in?

What are the rest of you up to today?

Paulissa

Good morning Girls,
Hope you all are doing well, and happy.

It's 45 and foggy here today. Supposed to rain today, then snow for the next 6 days...lol

I have been struggling with depression. A couple of days ago, I thought how much easier it would be, if I were not here. I didn't have thoughts of suicide, just not being here on earth. That kind of shocked me, let me tell you.
I am doing much better every day. I do not want to take medication for this, but I may have to in the future. We shall see on that.

I need to exercise and stay away from the sugar. Those two things bother me a lot, and both make me depressed.

So, on to pleasanter things. We are going to town today to look for a treadmill. That will help during the winter, and in the heat of summer, to get some exercise in.

And staying away from sugar will help me too.

Do not worry about me, I am doing much better emotionally. I haven't even had the responsibility of taking Mom anyplace, as brother has taken care of that for 1 1/2 weeks. So that is a help too.

Praying you all have a safe happy New Years eve, and a great new year.

Wishing us all a leaner, healthier year.

Patty
