Paulissa, You've got a good plan for your return to work. At the Healthy Living class we took at the VA recently, they were big on setting goals and being willing to tweak them as needed. I'm sure you'll do well.

Ann, Yes, Crystal is the wife Troy has been separated from for 3 years I think now. There is one homeless shelter for women and one for men here. They are full up and there are lots more in makeshift shelters all over the community. Apparently when Crystal left here last week to move in with her mother everything was agreed to until she got there. She took all of her possessions to her mothers and then got in a disagreement with her brother, who hit her. The mother waffled and told Crystal she had to leave and the brother could stay. It didn't seem to phase her that her daughter would be homeless. She abandoned them as children so there are HUGE dysfunctional issues. Crystal has a job interview in Portland on Tuesday. We are considering driving her up for that interview. Hopefully if it pans out, she can look for cheap housing. No, I couldn't turn her away knowing she had no other options. This should be an opportunity for each of them to grow up.

Jan, your candy sounds wonderful! I'm sorry you have to go through so much drama right before your anniversary. Just remember that we can't be responsible for the choices of others. And simply because someone chose to dump her at your doorstep, does not mean that you have to choose that responsibility. You can offer to take her to a shelter, etc but you DON'T have to take her into your home even for one night and it doesn't make you a bad person for establishing your boundaries. ((((((HUGS))))))

Congratulations on 41 years of bliss!!!

Jan, I take it Crystal is the seperated DIL? I'm not throwing the can of pink paint away for sure. I can understand you being upset and probably I wouldn't have wanted a unwelcome houseguest either but what else can you do when the weather is so cold. Do you have any women's homeless shelters?

You and Bruce just do your thing and enjoy your anniversary.

Good evening everyone,

Sorry to be so late in getting here but it has been a longggggg day of church and I am just now getting some time for me. I read at the 8:30, helped with the kid's Christmas program at 11, and had a church council meeting at noon that last until 3 and the person who was supposed to bring lunch didn't show up! Then home for a late lunch and workout before starting dinner. We had chicken and white bean soup with salad and grapefruit. It was quite good.

I am mentally preparing to return to work tomorrow and have my workout clothes laid out for the morning and lunch packed, etc. My plan is to do 1/2 of aerobics in the morning, walk on my breaks, and then do the rest of my aerobics/strength/ etc in the evening after dinner. I'm really trying hard to stay on track.

Today I made a rocky road candy I found on the Weight Watchers website.
Bruce and I had lunch out after church.
My heart is very heavy tonight. I can't believe we told Troy that Crystal could spend one night here. Yes, she moved back to Portland but immediately got in a fight with her brother. Troy told her to go to a hospital where she could spend the night in a waiting room (?) but no - she took the bus back here (I think her relatives paid for that). It was just for ONE night. But now she has no where to go tonight so they were going to go "camp out" in a park in the cold and rain. I just can't go into it all but I know I've been lied to and I'm very unhappy. Tomorrow is Bruce and my 41st anniversary. This is NOT how I planned to spend it. One good thing has happened - Troy has agreed to take a Lives in Transition class at the community college. Ann, maybe I should start painting the rooms bright pink? I'm just so sad - what should have been a joyous week is not turning out that way. I am so thankful I have Bruce to spend another anniversary with.

Hi ladies
Sunny but cold and windy.
Went to church for our Christmas Potluck. We had a program for the first time in 12 years the pastor said.
We had quite a crowd for our little church.
Food was all good.
Making tags tonight to put on my mixes.
Have a great evening.

Ann....it's so funny you should bring up the paddlewheeler story. I just read it this morning in the new Motorhome magazine. What a strange coincidence! I cut the article out to put in my "things to see" file. Pass along anything else you run across!!

Good Afternoon from the rainy west. The whole state is getting what they call the Pineapple Express. We always get the tail end which is showers. DS lives about 5 miles away and DD said it wasn't as wet there.

Judy, sounds like you are getting the Hitch Itch and ready to move on. You have kept pretty busy there in Tucson. Have you ever seen the Arabian ship display in Kansas City. We were in the building but didn't know a thing about it so didn't pay to see the exhibit. When we got home to San Diego I read about it in a Readers Digest. A Sternwheeler I believe that sunk and years later the river diverted in another direction. A farmer was plowing his field and came across the items from the ship. It was dug up and the artifacts were put on display. The ship was carrying cargo and much of it was still in boxes when dug up.

Yesterday I pulled stuck on shelf paper off my sewing area shelves. I got about 8 of the 21 done. They are coming off a lot easier than the ones in the linen closets. The painter mentioned he had a heat gun that would soften the glue. I thought I'd try the hair dryer and that helped a lot. It did leave some sticky residue that DH got off today. I will paint the shelves. DH is trying to be helpful and suggested I do the whole shelving at once instead of one section at a time. There is too much stuff to do all at once. I cleaned 18 plastic shoe boxes of stuff and that took me all morning and that was just from one shelf. Craft stuff, sewing stuff, etc I have quite a few bags for the thrift shop. Lots of videos, silk thread in the most beautiful colors, fabric that came from the bedroom, etc etc. Just a lot of stuff I don't use any more.

I have to quit when my shoulder starts aching. DD came by and helped DH move some items into the house that have been in the garage. I'm am very slowly getting things organized.

DH is suppose to drop of GS at baseball camp this week but I bet it will be cancelled with the rain that is expected for the next three days. That means DH probably will kid sit all week. Maybe I can get my paint and work on the shelves without
being told I'm not doing it right.

Toni, that is an unusual sewing project.

I have not been cooking at all. I was very happy I had left over mac and cheese to just warm up last night for supper. I still have some soups in the freezer we can eat up. This truly is soup weather.

Morning....

Weather here still the same..great!

Went to the Titanic exhibit yesterday...it was fascinating to see all the stuff they brought up from the bottom of the ocean (2 1/2 miles down!) I was surprised to see how many paper items were included. How they were still legible was amazing.
I guess the best one to see is in Las Vegas, as it is a permanent display...will have to see it too, next time we're there.

For dinner we went to the Melting Pot for my DD birthday dinner. It starts with a cheese fondue, followed by a broth based fondue with veggies, duck, shrimp, chicken, pot stickers, beef tenderloin, and pork. As if that's not enough...it was finished with a dark & white chocolate fondue into which we dipped Cheesecake, brownie and pound cake chunks, bananas, strawberries, Rice Krispie treat pieces, & coconut coated marshmallows!! Now how is that for a low-cal meal??!! When I did weigh-in this AM I was shocked to see I was down 1#! I tried to have mostly veggies and chicken, skipped the cheese, and only a small bit of the chocolate with the fruit. Guess it helped a little.

Today is laundry and sitting. I feel like I have been running a marathon with all the stuff we've been doing lately! Lots of fun though.

Hope you all have a great day today......Judy

Hi Everyone

It is overcast and showers this morning. It is looking a lot like Christmas in Florida...as much as it will ever look like Christmas without snow.

Jan I have my Puerto Rican beans cooking and I'm getting a slow start on the H.E. Fruitcake. I can't wait to try this fruitcake.

I hope this is a blessed Sunday for all!

Good morning,

The sky is blue and the sun is out but it's cold. Still much better to look at than rain.

I'm getting ready to go to church. I'll check back later to see what you are all up to.

What's going on where you live?
